Maybe I'm starting to turn into a boomer, but there's a lot of things I learned when it came to this song. First, it was pretty popular on tiktok a couple years ago, I just never actually correlated it to a real song or looked into it. I'm generally pretty averse to listening to the basic "tiktok dance songs" but after using the app for a few years, I find myself stumbling upon the actual songs here and there and am starting to enjoy some of them. In addition, I somehow had no clue who Emma Langevin was. She's on the cover art of this song, and of a song by CORPSE who I'd just listened to a little bit before his collab with BMTH. But yeah, I learned that she's the e-girl personification on tiktok I suppose. Anyways on to VHL things, it's been weird looking at the player manage page (to get to the updates queue) and just seeing emptiness there. It bugs me a little bit but I don't know if it's enough to make me create again. Fortunately I think Josh is working on some portal update that'll just let you bypass that screen entirely and get straight into the update queue, reducing some button clicks. It was either that or just bookmarking the update queue and blocking the player manage tab, save the player store I guess. I was going to move on to talking about the draft but realized I basically just blew up Moscow overnight this week and should probably talk about it a little bit. We were at a bit of a crossroads where we had a lot of older players (S84-S82) and had a decision to make - we had a few plans, one of which was to keep a couple of our call-ups and essentially run it back with the same core folks. Lavelle, Sogaard, Nesbitt, Voss, Wallob, etc. Would have been able to keep all of them and just switch out some of the 2nd line/pairing folks and go for it one more time before Lavelle and Voss retired, and then presumably the others would end up getting traded unless I decided to go headhunting for players to compete. On the other hand, we were starting to get serious interest from a few teams on various folks and considering how saturated the market was, we were liking the offers in hand. I like the S90 class until around 23-25, and S91 for really just the first round so far. S92 is a bit of a gamble but I think with some new recruitment faces, we'll get some drives going again. Overall though we now have 5 first round picks, soon to be 6 pending another trade and I think we still have more room to increase our capital with the folks still on our roster and the interest we're getting. Only thing is I don't really know what will happen in net, we're not in position to take Artyomov in this class and outside of him, goalies look pretty uninspiring over the next couple seasons. We'll have to get creative in a solution, but I imagine the most likely route will be that we just end up trading for someone once we're at the cusp of being competitive again.

A story on how the Frenchman will never be better
Spartan replied to OrbitingDeath's topic in VHL.com Articles
He didn't manage his money well though. He bought a position swap last offseason instead of using that money towards the Jagr in this final season. I think with Nico too I was slated to have a massive depreciation hit but just saving one attribute with a Jagr made it much easier to tolerate. I think the real issue is people going beyond 1200 TPA and expecting to be able to maintain it. Even before the hybrid changes and depreciation changes, it was pretty common to start banking as soon as you entered your 5th season, or even before that point when most folks would have 2-4 99 attributes. I don't think the underlying logic behind preparing for depreciation has changed. If anything we've given more money to high end players from contract tier reworks and also allowed for Jagrs to be used for the final depreciation. The regression fighters are also substantially more valuable than the old depreciation fighters pre-hybrid were, since it's not just a 1-2% reduction, but it drops you to the previous tier itself - overall saving more than it used to before. So I cautiously want to say that peaking at 1200 TPA (or 1186 as The Frenchman is now) isn't bad at all. On paper he's still one of the top TPA guys in the league and just had a 100 point season. I don't think there's even more room for growth or needed increases in TPA for players who go 9 seasons. -
@CODENAMEJIMMY Thanks for joining us last season, but with the rebuild starting here and VAN looking for a defenseman as they go for a cup, made sense to get you somewhere where you could compete for something when the interest was there! Best of luck Cheers @Frank, quick and easy!

Bit of a quick entrance and exit for both of you @Stroheim and @Timmy30, but we had a bit of a logjam at forward building and Warsaw could guarantee you plenty of ice time. Hope you enjoy your time there! Cheers @N0HBDY

Cheers on the chats @jacobcarson877, treat my guy well! Appreciate you being on board with Moscow when you came over from Prague @AW13, and I wish we could have kept you around for longer. Just the nature of the beast when it comes to rebuilding the team, otherwise we definitely would have run it back and let you stick around for a bit. Enjoy London in the meantime, wishing you all the success

Well, the signs were coming. Very sad to lose two great people in @Arce and @Brandon from the team. Fantastic players during their time here, and fantastic leaders and LR voices. Best of luck in Toronto, friends @Moon Cheers, treat them well.

Fun trade talks, appreciate the patience @Banackock. Fantastic, yet short time here in Moscow @DMaximus , but I know you wanted to compete. You're in a good competitive spot here, hope it works out for you!

Yep, you heard that right! We are now hiring not the three GMs we advertised roles for before, but four GMs after the poaching of @samx by the evil Blue overlords. Once again, we'd like to thank @Blazzer, @AJW, @Pifferfish and @samx for their time spent as GMs for LVA, Houston, Philly, and Mexico City, respectively. With that being said, we've got a whole bunch of new (and old) faces to welcome to the VHLM. Please congratulate the following: Las Vegas - @McLovin Philadelphia - @Lemorse7 Houston - @STZ Mexico City - @Otis Boudreaux Jr Excited to have a fantastic mix of veterans and first gens to add to the VHLM team! Looking forward to seeing the great job you all do!

S89 Commissioner's Cup (Credit to @Zetterberg) Hello again! Last season, @Gustav and I revived the old Top Prospects Game/Commissioner's Cup from the late S60's/early S70's, and saw a fair bit of interest from the community and lots of engagement. We had some fun streams, got to run the draft lottery live, and played a LOT of marbles on stream. This season is slightly different as Gus and I chose to do an offline draft to save the time live on stream between our busy schedules, but have no fear - we'll still be doing the draft lottery and all the sims TONIGHT at 7 EST on my Twitch channel (link below). For those who may never have seen this before, the Commissioner's Cup is a battle between the two VHLM Commissioners - each commissioner drafts a team of any 12 forwards, 6 defensemen and 2 goalies who played in the VHLM that season. The competition will be a best of 3, and in a special twist, we'll be simming on STHS Version 2.0 which is sure to provide plenty of wacky and absurd moments as it is absolutely not balanced whatsoever. Rosters Team Spartan: Team Gustav: See the draft results HERE S89 Commissioner's Cup INDEX Sims TONIGHT, 8/7/2023 at 7 PM EST here - https://www.twitch.tv/thespartan84 Tune in to watch me get my revenge on Gus! - @VHLM Commissioner

# ItsOver. Blasted in a 4-2 series against Davos in the S89 finals, Nico ends his career the same way it started in his rookie season - a finals loser. Rarely did I feel like I got frustrated about the VHL but it feels like a more common emotion at this point of my VHL experience. Oftentimes now I get asked about my plans for my next player and I just don't have an answer. Outside the one MVP season I had with Helsinki and the one Brooks win at some random point of my career, Nico was just as mediocre as I bet @Enorama felt Kastelic was. Kastelic though I guess didn't have the awards either, so maybe he'll come in and tell me to be grateful for something at least. Losing just isn't fun. Y'know? Now I have to sit and think about what's next. But I will say a delayed congrats to Davos and @Ahma now that I've simmered down considerably. Lachlan Summers decided to remind me for the 3rd or 4th time in my 7 finals appearances that sometimes, Simon just picks a goalie to turn into a literal child of Olympus. Of all the losses though, this one was probably the second most brutal letdown after blowing a 3-1 lead in the early 80's. Obviously it had to happen to me right? Davos breaks their curse at least, so that drops one curse from the VHL at least. Perhaps it really is time to think about what my future with a player will entail. Only time will really tell what ends up happening. Perception really is everything though, maybe there'll be a hint of some sort? !fucksimon is known though.

Entry-Level VHL Salaries Slashed, Players Befuddled
Spartan replied to Renomitsu's topic in VHL.com Articles
Absolutely infuriated by these allegations. Never before in my life have I been so insulted by such accusations. I fucking despise bubble tea and would never own 1, let alone 3 bubble tea locations. -
Bumping this as I've sent out an initial round of some brief interview questions to users we don't know as well (folks who haven't GM'd recently). Will still send out questions to any interested candidates who reply by tomorrow!

Change Log (2023-08-06) 2.2 - Edited 400-500 Rookie bracket amount from 1.75M to 1.5M
-
Hello, it's me, your friendly VHL Financier. The VHL salary cap is a very popular topic of discussion every offseason, with nearly every GM clamoring for it to be increased. After lots of BOG discussion over the topic of the salary cap, salaries, what teams would do with the money, so on and so forth, we have decided to make a change! For S90, we will be changing the following: - The 400-500 TPE bracket on the Rookie scale will be reduced from $1,750,000 to $1,500,000. The prime amount of $2,000,000 will not change. Unfortunately, we're not raising the salary cap. Instead, we'll offer some flexibility in one of our salary tiers that was always a little bit shaky when we did the bracket rework a few seasons ago. The uneven amount of 750k made it difficult to spend up to the cap without spending a 250k bonus on your 1.75M player or rostering two players in the same tier, which was fairly counterproductive and very rare to encounter. Given that the 400-500 TPE bracket is the realistic range of where prospects would be at the time of call up, it made most sense to reduce it in line with the 300-400 bracket as well instead of increasing it to $2 million. That is all. @VHL GM for your awareness (and offseason cap needs) Sincerely, Your favorite league financier (Don't panic if you don't see this reflected on the portal immediately, I will manually edit it when doing finances after depreciation)

Just bumping this thread, as we have 19 people interested in participating and in the server! As it stands now, if we have 19, we'll split into two leagues of 10 teams and I'll have a team in each league to serve as commissioner. If we can get a 20th person, then I can see if someone can be shadow commish in the second league. We can go over 20 though, will just need to be an even number!

1.5 is the minimum @Frank smh
