  1. Interim?
  2. Wtf this Scyther better be the pokemon version of Jesus Use the great balls to success Then go bonk the other lvl 13 Scyther until it dies (with Pursuit)
  3. Super delayed, I am so sorry @CowboyinAmerica. I hope that this does some justice to your fantastic history in the league, and conveys some appreciation for all that you've done @Victor for portal
  4. Zach Warren (CowboyinAmerica) - Class of S81 Joined: S33 Jobs Held: Board of Governors, Financier, Updater, VHLM GM, AGM, Moderator HoF Players (at time of writing): Hans Wingate, Gabriel McAllister Many members have joined the VHL in an effort to leave some sort of fingerprint on the league. Some chase championships and cups, some hope to lay a stake in the Hall of Famer, and others simply hope to contribute their time and efforts to the league that has provided so much enjoyment to many in its 15 year existence. CowboyinAmerica, colloquially known as CIA, has been able to achieve all three of the aforementioned points in his 50+ seasons in the VHL. His efforts in various league management positions along with his pursuit of player excellence has landed him in the Hall of Fame for now the third time, this time recognizing his status as a crucial figure in the esteemed history of the VHL - a Builder. CIA first discovered the world of sim leagues in 2006, joining a football league called the MSFL. At this point, he began his path to become a consistent, contributing member of any sim league community, rising to the title of Commissioner and starting to amass the vast sim league knowledge and experience he is always happy to share today. A year later in 2007, the VHL was founded with similarities and cross-over between the two leagues. At the time, CIA was admittedly not a huge fan of hockey and declined to join, preferring to watch from a distance as such new leagues tended to fail. After experiencing vast changes in his personal life in the form of graduating high school and then going to college, CIA returned to the sim league scene in around 2011/2012 and was surprised to see that the VHL was still going strong and in S30 at the time. The stability and consistency of the league drew him in, and he finally began what was to be a storied VHL career with a player eligible for the S33 draft class. As a new member in the VHL but with history and experience in other leagues, CIA chose not to pursue league positions citing his experience with feeling burnout and having to deal with toxicity. In order to maximize his experience and feel committed to the VHL, CIA chose to solely focus on his player. However, the league came calling quickly for a member with experience on how such sim leagues function, especially during an era when the VHL didn't sport significant membership. From S33-S34, CIA stepped up to GM the VHLM team formerly known as the Minnesota Storm/Oslo Screaming Seamen. From there he was added into the BoG to participate in league-decision making, and took on jobs like league Financier to review all things related to the salary cap. He is known for being one of the most dedicated Updaters in league history during the forum updating era - spending nearly 20 seasons up until the portal updating era handling thousands of forum updates, which is understandably recognized as the most difficult form of updating. As a member of the BoG, CIA helped shape some prominent rules and movements that are still known to the VHL today. Before the S60's, the league had a consistent albeit small user core, and it was tested in the league's history during some minor userbase contractions. In order to address the lack of players, the league decided to adopt "Project Player Two," a significant change to the league in 2016 which allowed for users to have two concurrent players to fill up rosters. However, CIA was steadfast in his belief that such a change would burn out the existing userbase and wouldn't adequately address the real issue at hand - a lack of new users. From his position on the BoG, he fought to repeal Project Player Two and dedicated his time to developing sustainability plans for the VHL, creating recruitment strategies and budgeting donation money to fund league growth plans. Despite not being recognized as a formal member of Recruitment, it's clear that CIA's vision was crucial to the sustenance of the VHL and even factored into its growth. It's quite impressive to see how much of a league can be impacted by someone who intentionally never stepped into a single commissioner position, and CowboyinAmerica really blew away all expectations in that regard. While he currently has stepped away from most league positions since the S60-S70's, his contributions in BoG and as an updater have been one of the pillars that the modern VHL is supported by. Despite not currently holding any positions, he still remains a wealth of knowledge that he always shares in some of the most insightful and well-written Media Spots, and also with teammates in any locker room that he happens to be involved with. We will continue to appreciate his time and dedication to the VHL, and look forward to seeing what legendary player he will develop next.
  5. Fight the lvl 13 Scyther with Pursuit Use 2 great balls on lvl 17 scyther, then pokeballs until success Use 2 pokeballs on Bellsprout, fight with Pursuit if both aren't successful edit: changed order of actions

  7. Why not
  8. 1. Were there really 6 trades that Vancouver made this offseason? I know the first big one were two firsts for Leduc and Cheese, then another trade for Powers. Another trade with Moscow for Wattson Power in exchange for a 2nd. Last major trade was a 3rd in exchange for Anze Miklavz's rights. Then I believe it was a cap dump moving Chicoine somewhere, and maybe another one sending Schmigel elsewhere. Sounds like 6 even if I didn't get all the details. 2. I'd probably say the first one was the most impactful. Without that one, I don't think the organization moves to try and make the rest happen. Leduc and Cheese are franchise pieces for the future that also opened up the ability for Vancouver to turn into serious contenders if they could get some interest from free agents. 3. I think Henry Eagles was a fantastic first overall pick, even if it was a little surprising that the team didn't go with the more familiar player in John Jameson. That being said, Eagles has some deep-rooted history with his background and the franchise so it made sense for him to come back and be another core piece of the team's future alongside Fuhr, Leduc and Cheese. 4. I think that the team could have just waited for Miklavz to hit free agency if they were so certain that he would sign with the team. I think that's what ultimately happened anyways, that Miklavz didn't sign a contract before free agency opened. But I get that the team wanted to show real commitment to other free agents with the early acquisition and I know it caught the attention of people around the league. I do feel strongly that Miklavz and Powers can win a cup here, they're both very talented veterans who haven't gained as much respect as they should have. It's a good team here so I feel good about our chances to win a cup. 5. Nico is one of the nominees for MVP among other awards, so I think everyone is curious to see why he left Helsinki and chose Vancouver to spend a year on. But his talent is proven and his ability to contribute is unquestioned. At this point, I don't think it's a question if he'll be successful on Vancouver, it's more of "How successful will he be?" In terms of surprise or not, I think people might have predicted him going to DC which was a more established contender with more familiar faces. But Vancouver was putting together all the pieces for a real cup run and Pearce just seemed like the last one that brought it all together. 6. Clever riddle, thanks for a light question to end it off!
  9. Transaction ID: 4FF41031NW538681R Doubles Week (9/4) 5 Uncapped (9/4) $1 mil cash
  10. Honestly, I'm still preferential towards the old logo. I like the side by side comparison to try both out though!
  11. The fact that 2/3 of the 2nd line still has banked to spend is insane. Vancouver is set up to be really good, had to try and be a part of it and make a cup run!
  12. When I started on this journey with Nico, I had a few distinct goals in mind. First, I wanted to test free agency at some point in his career, as I've never hit free agency with any player in any sim league. I felt like it'd be a pretty cool experience especially if there were teams with cap space to make it interesting and a genuine tough decision. Second, I wanted to win a championship (or a few). I can be pretty grateful as to have one in every other sim league as a small reward for my time and effort, but the VHL is still the only league where I don't have a cup at any level. Nico was going to be my avenue to always end up on a team that gave me the best possible option to compete. After 4 seasons of Nico's career, he and I are still without a championship. While Helsinki had a talented young roster with a lot of great people, it just wasn't working out and it seemed best to part ways. I am grateful to have had a career-best season over there along with the possibility to win some hardware this offseason. That being said though, this was one of the best offseasons to hit FA in due to the plethora of teams with cap space to make moves, and an abundance of quality fellow free agents to make the league-wide moves. I'm happy to have heard some pitches from a bunch of teams and there were some really good ones out there. Thank you all to @Dil, @Enorama, @Dom, @frescoelmo, @Frank, @Alex and @Acydburn for reaching out and showing interest, I appreciate your time and efforts. That being said, I have come to a decision after scoping out where some other FA's have signed and some more trades have been made. I've been really impressed with some of the recent moves of this team and think they have a really bright future under a talented GM. I'd like to now announce that I will be joining:
  13. Does seem appealing
  14. Thank you all for the applications, I enjoyed speaking with all of you and discussing the position. After deliberation, the job shall go to @BarzalGoat! Congrats on your position and godspeed.
  15. That's still going to be a no as of now. Perhaps we can revisit AGM rights pay down the line, but for now due to a complete lack of standard responsibilities and expected tasks for the role (it's currently left up to their GM), we can't justify paying them.
  16. Hello all! With @Masu Chan and @samx departing the VHLM after some excellent tenures, @Gustav and I are pleased to announce that we've selected two new GM's to replace them in Philadelphia and Halifax. In addition, we will be doing a little reshuffling since @Lemorse7 was initially hired to be an interim GM. He will be sticking around as a VHLM GM, but will be relocating to a new team based on our placements of the two new hires. Here are the new GMs for the three teams: Philadelphia: Miami: Halifax: Congratulations to both of our hirings, we're very excited to see you both in action! For anyone who applied and wasn't selected, please keep in mind that there are still two VHL GM positions yet to be filled. We expect that there will be some trickle-down effect from those hirings that may lead to another VHLM opening before S85 begins.
  17. Can't wait for Arce to be totally wrong again!
  18. Bold of you to think I edit between recording and posting, but maybe on some special episodes, I will add your outro and @Berocka's intro Also holy shit was that an effect or were you really just death metal growling there
  19. Unless you've been living under the proverbial VHL rock, you've probably seen the announcement linked above. Pretty big, I know, and also pretty controversial for being one of the worst VHL(M) hirings ever. And yes, I am specifically referring to the hiring of @Gustav as an M commissioner. Jokes aside, it was pretty neat to not only be hired for the massive role, but to be hired alongside Gus who I've always respected and enjoyed discussing BoG topics with. We've already had some discussions about the job and things to potentially keep an eye on or change in the near future, so we're pretty enthused about the possibilities and making the M the best it can be. We're generally pretty happy with the current GM's and will work with them all to make sure they're comfortable in their roles and not feeling overwhelmed. That's one of our top priorities really, to make sure the people tasked with one of the most important jobs in the league feel supported and valued. So yeah, will be pretty interesting to see how things goes and I apologize for any future announcement, since neither Gus nor I are known for being concise. On more personal news, since I don't talk about Nico ever, I've declined my Mutual Option with Helsinki in sort of a two-fold reasoning. First was that Helsinki has been a bit slow to move this offseason and I'm worried about the state of the team next season with so many UFA's that have yet to be signed. I've always been upfront that if the roster isn't competitive, I can't commit to staying on the team. With FA opening up tomorrow and discussions starting today, the proverbial "message" had to be sent with the declining of the option. The other reason is also just that I think there's going to be a lot of players (from a team sense) in free agency and I think it'd be nice to test the market and see where I can end up. So yeah, will be fun!
  20. I hope everyone in the VHL knows exactly what to expect with Central New Jersey rush hour traffic

Thanks for the easy talks @hedgehog337 Not sure if you'll see this, but welcome to Moscow @Tomat0! Hope to have a good season with you here
  23. Spreadsheet boy is dropping his favorite job! VHFL is everyone's favorite (or most rage inducing) offseason game, and I'm looking to bring someone on to replace me. The job itself is most involved in the offseason between getting sign-ups posted, groups made, and then making sure groups are going smoothly. You will have to handle conflicts and try to figure out a rational solution. I will continue to maintain the spreadsheet in the background and can assist if needed, so you don't really have to be an Excel/Sheets pro. Would be nice if you at least knew how some basic stuff worked. Requirements/Would be nice to have in an applicant: - Available in the offseason to create groups and manage them - Decent at handling conflict - Will not delete stuff in Sheets for no reason - Fairly organized - Can spell player names (otherwise I have to do more work in the file) Pay is 2 TPE/week when VHFL is running. Apply below or DM me to discuss.
