That’s fair, I misunderstood. If you want to come up with some than be my guest, I’d be interested in seeing them.
-
Just curious then, what would you like to see for 5 different uncapped opportunities? That’s a lot of different things to come up with so if you have ideas I’m all for it. Mind you that’s also 15 uncapped, I assume you mean per season? The 17 from the birthday is an anniversary so it might happen twice per career, that’s 34 TPE. 15 per season for 9 seasons (full career plus VHLM) is 135 Free TPE. That is pretty substantial. The scale changes were mostly to reflect the new cap but they were intended to be a tad harsher as well. We never really intended on giving back all the TPE to make up for it or what would be the point of changing it?
-
They definitely exist as well but let me re-word for you: not necessarily new uncapped opportunities but higher amounts than historically. Most anniversaries for example haven’t given away nearly 17 uncapped.

Had to pass @Beaviss somehow.

Welcome to the VHL, JG10! We're happy to have you. You should have received a PM with some more detailed information, but to get started quickly you will want to head over to the "How to Create a Player" topic. That topic will offer you detailed information about how to use the VHL Portal to create your player and get you started. We also highly recommend joining the VHL Discord where there is a channel dedicated to helping new members with any questions that they may have about the league or improving their player. Once your player is made VHLM General Managers will be in touch with you about joining their teams. In the meantime, please feel free to ask any questions you have here or in your create-a-player thread. We're happy to have you in the community and we hope you stick around!

My wife is the same way. It’s not that she doesn’t let me have any time to myself or anything, I have plenty, but when we’re spending time together she’d rather I not be staring at my phone the whole time. Seems fair enough.

And half of them were haha
-
Oh you have no idea how bad we were haha. @Victor has probably been around long enough to remember.

I’d argue we’ve been far more generous than in the past in regards to uncapped stuff. We’ve been throwing far more of it around than ever before. However team tasks are something that has yet to return, hopefully we can get them figured out. As for your last paragraph, all I can think of is Sandro talking about his dad golfing with (I think) Trevor Linden back in S10 or so and the entire community turning it into a meme. We were assholes back then but we had fun haha

Just out of curiosity, purely because I don’t know you as well as some of the older members, how old (roughly is fine) are you? Just curious, not saying it changes anything regarding the validity of your opinion. I’m just sorta curious to gauge opinions based on how much free time people likely have.

An argument that could be made though: without decent welfare how many people who use it stick around? Admittedly I mostly agree, I think we went too far with the balance where it’s literally a 1 TPE difference, but it’s a valid topic of discussion.

Questions for @Will for sure. I vaguely recall Python being mentioned but I'm sure there's more than that. Mind you merging the portal would never really be the tough part, merging the forum would be. IPB does a lot for us but that also restricts us quite a lot with what we can do. We're working on it but it's tough. Even getting the hosting how we wanted it was not a cheap or easy endeavour.

In my continued attempts to look at the past of the VHL and complain about things, I take a side-road this week. I'm not so much complaining about this, more just discussing a change that has been sweeping through the VHL for a few seasons now. I want to peak under the hood and see how members, new and old, like the changes. So, a bit of a history lesson. When the VHL first opened the main PT's we have now were still the same. MS, Podcast (which may have been added a bit after I think) and GFX. VHL.com existed as well but was named differently and worth less. Over time they evolved slightly as we went from 4/week to 6 and then gradually into the guaranteed 6 we have now. See, back in those days, things were graded. You did't just post whatever and claim your full 6. You carefully constructed your PT to make sure it received 2 grades that would give you 6. I'm no VHL historian so I can't recall exactly when the shift over to auto-6 came in but it was relatively recently. Soon after, or maybe slightly before, I don't recall, Welfare and Pension were introduced. Of course, back then, welfare was worth anywhere from 2-4 TPE depending on your past players, not the 4-5 you get now. Press Conferences didn't exist at all until very recently as well, same with things like the lottery. Things like the fantasy zone came around early enough but not trivia which is usually the easiest avenue. So, what's all this got to do with my original question: has the VHL gotten too easy? Well, it's very simple. Back then getting the 9 TPE /week cap took work. If you did your PT and got a perfect grade that would give you 6, VHL.com at the time gave you 1. That's 7 obviously. The last 2 usually came from jobs but not everyone had one. As the league has evolved, even more jobs have been automated and removed and yet nowadays, more people hit the cap then ever before. Why? Because we have made it easier, quite intentionally actually. We wanted the VHL to be less restrictive to new people, people who had maybe never done a sim league before. We didn't want to have it be quite the wall between "I'm new and lost" and "I've been here for years, I'm amazing." I do believe this has mostly worked but have we gone too far? Is it now too easy to get the cap every week and be a superstar? That's what I want to know. So, I ask you, the members; both old and new. Are we now too easy? Are the old ways of needing to really work for your TPE better or have times changed and things must be quickened? Does the VHL seem more approachable as a hobby now than it did in the past or does it just seem too simple to master? Ultimately this has been quite ramble I know but it's an interesting topic nonetheless.

There aren’t any really. IPB has a lot of stuff with the forum done under the hood for us. @Will does a good amount with the portal but mobile coding is a very different beast and would require an Apple developer account at the very least to get an iOS version. If we were ever to create an app we would likely need to outsource it to a professional. Honestly I think our main objective should be more so making the site as mobile friendly as possible rather than focusing on a specific app. A very mobile friendly site works just as well as any app would. I don’t even know for sure if you can embed an IPB forum into app form.

We knew it would be, was an interesting season haha. We were kinda testing how far we could push STHS’ “offense first” mentality. It didn’t work out.
-
Funnily enough a few seasons later when I was chasing a cup in NY we failed partially because we only had 1 defenseman. STHS is a fickle bitch.
-
I firmly believe that if Holik hadn’t of been such a playoff scrub we could have won in S53. Not that I blame our playoffs entirely on myself , there were other issues, but mediocre play in net certainly didn’t help.

As I’ve said before, there’s too many loopholes that need to be closed up and other things have taken a higher priority. Especially considering hitting the capnis easier than ever before. As for you, you can do whatever you like. We aren’t going to tailor the rules so that someone can endlessly beat new players into the ground though, that’s certainly not how you keep people around.

The VHLM is a developmental league, always has been. If we start opening too many doors to have VHLM superstars it takes the development aspect away because no one will see a point in updating just to get stomped. You also don’t help your argument much for VHLM years not counting if you plan on tryouts by to stay down as long as possible. Just proves our safeguards are necessary.
