  4. S84 Calgary Wranglers VS Toronto Legion Playoffs - Wildcard Games A season has gone by and it's that time of the year again, it's time for the playoffs! Looking at the featured match up, some might be having a déjà vu moment as they see the two teams coming out of the locker rooms and onto the ice in Toronto, Canada. Similar to in S83, we find a matchup between the Calgary Wranglers and the Toronto Legion in S84! The only difference, it's a 5 game series in a play-in Wildcard series, where the winner will win a trip to face the King of the North American conference, D.C. Dragons. As oppose to last season in S83, the S84 Calgary Wranglers are a brand new upgraded team in S84 and only finished 1 point behind the Toronto Legion. In fact, the Wranglers actually won more games than the Legion this season, in S84. Looking at the end of season standings, one would wonder which team is actually the favourite to win the play-in series and face the Dragons. The Calgary Wranglers finished the S84 regular season with a 41 - 27 - 4 record, good for 86 points; on the other hand, the Toronto Legion finished the season with a record of 39 - 24 - 9, which gave them the home ice advantage in the Wildcard Series, with 87 points. When you look at the other season characteristics, the Wranglers hold the advantage: 36 to 31 ROW (Regulation and Overtime Wins), 211 GF (Goals For) vs 192 G, +21 GDiff (Goals Differential) vs +9; all in favour of the Calgary Wranglers. The Wranglers are even going into the Wildcard series with a Win streak, while the Legion last their last game. In fact, the Calgary Wranglers also won the season series against the Toronto Legion 3 to 2. A look at the rosters, a big difference could be seen when comparing S84 to S83. In the terms of Forwards and the Offense, the Toronto Legion are led by Superstar Veteran Paul Atreides @Mr_Hatter (1191 TPA),who is playing in his final season in the VHL. Paul finished his final season with a spectacular 45 goals, 45 assists, 90 points in 72 games (good for top 10 in points in the VHL and number 6 in goals), and is the leading scorer for both teams. The Calgary Wranglers counter with their own Superstar Center Saku Kotkakoivu @DollarAndADream (1192 TPA). While Saku took a step back this season in S84, Saku still finished with a very respectable 36 goals, 45 assists, 81 points in 72 games, as the points leader on the Wranglers. In terms of offensive talent, Saku holds a small edge, while Paul is the more complete and defensive player. When it comes to the rest of the top 6 and forwards depth, the Toronto Legion takes a hit as their number 2, Matty Fire @MattyFired (872 TPA) unfortunately holds a disadvantage to Calgary's 2nd and 3rd seat. Both Daniel Janser @Daniel Janser (935 TPA) and Brendan Telker @Telkster (875 TPA) hold the advantage over Matty. The Calgary Wranglers also have veteran Luc Tessier @KC15 (830 TPA) to make a powerful Big Four to cover for any mistakes the dual rookie sensations Landon Wolanin @jacobcarson877 (673TPA) and Leandro Goncalves @leandrofg (664 TPA) may perform. All in all, the Calgary Wranglers appear to hold the absolute advantage on offense for this series when comparing man-to-man forwards comparisons. In terms of Defence, the Toronto Legion have a very balanced and stable defensive core, lead by Rookie sensation Ryuji Sakamoto @der meister (671 TPA) and closing out the top four with veteran defender Jannik Nylen @DreMin15 (565 TPA). The Legion built their defence around a group of pass-first defensemen and a stud defensive defenseman. On the other side of the rink, the Calgary Wranglers brought in two veteran Star defensemen in Superstar Erlantz Jokinen @jRuutu (1078 TPA) and retiring Star Asher Reinhart @rjfryman (908 TPA) to assist their rookie defender Scoish Velociraptor Maloish @youloser1337 (524 TPA) and sophomore defensive specialist AirRig GoodBrandSun @Rhynex Entertainment (710 TPA), who appeared to have sunk into the quicksand known as the Sophomore Slump. Erlantz led all defenders with 18 goals, 62 assists, 80 points in 72 games, heading into the Wildcard series, which is good for 4th in points as a defenseman, and 9th in assists in the VHL. Ironically, we see the lower ranked team to once again have a clear advantage, this time in defence, in this Wildcard series. Calgary Wranglers hold the advantage in Defence. Lastly, let's talk about the position that could steal a team a playoff series, Goaltending. We have a re-match and goaltending duel for the Legion's Superstar Oskar Lindbergh @Doomsday (1010 TPA) and the Wranglers' last line of defence, Ben Dahl @Ben (615 TPA). Both goaltenders had a spectacular series in the S83 playoffs and they will be renewing their rivalry in S84. Oskar provides the Legion a very important fighting chance in this season's Wildcard Series as a player who could steal the series against a team that appears to be a heavy favourite on paper in the Calgary Wranglers, even though the Wranglers are, in fact, the lower ranked team. Goaltending advantage goes to the Toronto Legion. Overall advantage goes to the Calgary Wranglers, with a 2 - 1 on the advantage board. Game One: Calgary Wranglers at Toronto Legion The first game of the Wildcard Play-in Series between the Toronto Legion and Calgary Wranglers in S84 was a low scoring, low shooting affair. Neither teams seemed mighty prepared as the intensity throughout the game was below average. Leandro Goncalves opens the scoring for the Calgary Wranglers with his first career playoffs goal in the VHL at 7:04 into the first period. The period ended quietly with Calgary Wranglers leading the Toronto Legion 1 - 0. The Legion outshot the Wranglers 9 to 5 in the first period. Calgary's rookie sensation Leandro Goncalves continues his spectacular night with his second goal of the game early into the second period at 1:33 giving the Wranglers a 2 - 0 lead. Matty Fire finally breaks Ben Dahl's shutout bid at 9:01 into the second period with their first of the VHL S84 playoffs to cut the Calgary Wranglers' lead by halve. Calgary continues to lead by one after two periods, leading 2 - 1. The Wranglers outshot the Legion 14 to 11 in the period. Kyle Peace @Peace ties up the game for the Toronto Legion with their first of the VHL playoffs early into the third period at 3:12. A very slow, yet fast game continued as both teams seemingly forgot how to shoot and only know how to skate around in the neutral zone. Saku Kotkakoivu finally breaks the stalemate and igniting a bit of energy in the arena at 9:14, his first of the playoffs, giving the Calgary Wranglers the lead once more. The Wranglers hold out and hold on for the win to take game one of the Wildcard Play-in Series with a score of 3 - 2. A major win for the Calgary Wranglers who were swept by the Toronto Legion in S83. The Wranglers end up outshooting the Legion 6 to 4 in the third period and 25 to 24 overall in the game. With the 3 - 2 victory, the visiting Calgary Wranglers took a very important game, stealing home ice advantage from the home Toronto Legion. Calgary wins Wildcard Game One 3 - 2 and leads the Best of 5 Games Series 1 - 0. 3 Stars of the game (as voted by the spectators) 1 - Leandro Goncalves (CGY) - 2 goals, 2 points, 4 shots, 1 hit 2 - Luc Tessier (CGY) - 2 assists, 2 points, 2 shots, 4 hits, 1 shot block 3 - Saku Kotkakoivu (CGY) - 1 goal (GWG), 1 point, 4 shots, 2 hits, +1 Honourably Mentioned and Game Notes: · Leandro Goncalves (CGY), Landon Wolanin (CGY), Ryuji Sakamoto (TOR), Scoish Velociraptor Maloish (CGY) played their first career VHL playoff game · Leandro Goncalves (CGY) scored first career VHL playoff goal · Ben Dahl (CGY) made 22 of 24 saves (91.7% Save%) in first career VHL playoffs Win · Paul Atreides (TOR) won 23 of 34 face-offs (67.6%) · Both teams were perfect on the Penalty Kill (Calgary 1 for 1; Toronto 3 for 3) · Kyle Peace (TOR) went on a rampage with game high 10 shots; next shot leader had 5 shots Game Two: Calgary Wranglers at Toronto Legion The Toronto Legion came out strong in Game Two of the North American Conference Wildcard Games. Paul Atreides draws first blood 1:09 into the first with his first of the post season. A power play goal, which gave the Legion their first lead in the series. Matty Fire extends the Legion's lead to two at 3:43, their second goal in as many games. Luc Tessier gets one back for the Calgary Wranglers moments before the quarter way point of the first period at 4:58, their first of the S84 playoffs making the game 2 - 1 for Toronto. Cadmael Ixazaluoh @Vice reclaims the two goal lead for the Legion at 10:44 with their first of the playoffs, which quickly returned to a one goal lead due to a power play goal from AirRig GoodBrandSun, his first career VHL playoff goal at 10:48. Luc Tessier scores their second of the period at 15:53 to tie up the game at 3 - 3. First period of play ends with a much more entertaining first period, game tied 3 - 3 with Calgary outshooting Toronto 12 to 9. The second period was an uneventful period, except for the momentum swing, which was firmly on the Wranglers side, back to siding with the home team Toronto Legion. The Wranglers suffered a bit of a penalty trouble, including a back-to-back penalty by AirRig GoodBrandSun at 15:21 and 17:22 (Roughing and Hooking minors). The Toronto Legion out plays the Calgary Wranglers with 8 shots to 1. Game remains tied 3 - 3 heading to the third period. With the series down 1 - 0, the Toronto Legion took up a desperation power boost as the team tuned up the intensity to another level in the third period. Paul Atreides scores his second goal of the game at 2:54 to claim a 4 - 3 lead for the Legion. Higher and heavier intensity also helped the Legion draw a few more power plays, on the hands of S83 Defensive Defenseman of the Year, AirRig GoodBrandSun. Two more Hooking minors for the big, young defender at 9:54 and 12:38 respectively. Ben Dahl and the Wranglers penalty kill stood on their head to keep the game 4 - 3 in advantage of the Toronto Legion. Leandro Goncalves scores at 15:45 to tied the game at 4 - 4, their playoffs leading 3rd goal and goals in back to back games for the Calgary Wranglers rookie forward, stunning the Toronto crowd. The Legion draws another power play, which once again is solved by the Wranglers, and the game heads to Overtime tied 4 - 4. The Toronto Legion outshot the Calgary Wranglers 12 to 6 in the period. When we're in sudden death Overtime, any penalties causes the GMs' (@Ricer13 and @Doomsday) hearts to skip a beat. Daniel Janser and Matty Fire gave their respective GMs a scare at 2:10 and 9:27 respectively. The Toronto Legion continued to press and put of pressure on the Wranglers' defence. Period ended with the Legion outshooting the Wranglers 11 to 5. Game remains tied at 4 - 4, heading to Second Overtime. Armani Calamari @WildfireMicro gives GM @Doomsday a second scare of the night 1:06 into OT2. The Legion kills off the penalty, but loses the game's momentum to the Wranglers. With the puck stuck in the Legion's zone, and a little mishap defensively, the ever dangerous Saku Kotkakoivu slips past goaltender Oskar Lindbergh his second goal of the playoffs. Saku scores is second Game Winning Goal in back-to-back games, as the Calgary Wranglers wins game two 5 - 4 in Second Overtime. The Wranglers outshot the Legion 5 to 2 in OT2. Final shot counts Toronto 42, Calgary 29. Calgary leads series 2 - 0 and pushes the Toronto Legion to the brinks of elimination, as the series switches to the Wranglers' home ice. 3 Stars (as presented by the announcers of game two): 1 - Paul Atreides (TOR) - 2 goals, 2 assists, 4 points, 11 shots (game high), 8 hits (game high), 2 shot block 2 - Luc Tessier (CGY) - 2 goals, 1 assist, 3 points, 5 shots (tied team high), 2 hits, 2 shot blocks, won 31 of 45 face-offs (68.9%) 3 - Cadmael Ixazaluoh (TOR) - 1 goal, 1 assist, 2 points, 4 shots, 5 hits, 2 shot block Honourably Mentioned and Game Notes: · AirRig GoodBrandSun scores first career VHL playoff goal and suffers game high 4 minor penalties (3 hooking minors; perhaps now we know why he's called the Pylon defender) · Ben Dahl saves 38 of 42 shots (90.5% Save%) in the Win · Calgary Wranglers were masterful on the special teams, killing off 9 of 10 penalties (90%) and scoring 2 power plays on 3 attempts (66.7%) Game Three: Toronto Legion at Calgary Wranglers Calgary fans are hyped with some even taking out a small broom. The Toronto Legion are desperate for a win. Arena is loud and proud, and Kyle Peace scores early to try to silence the crowd. Kyle Peace scores his second goal of the playoffs for the Legion, just 0:48 into game three. 11. SITR VHL Birthday Edition @theme week Host: Thank you for tuning in for another episode of the VHL Network, Stick In The Rink! We come to you live at NBC Studios in Manhattan, New York! With the VHL Season 84 Trade Deadline coming right up around the corner, we have a very special episode of the VHL Network, Stick In The Rink! No, I am not talking about the upcoming trade deadline. We are talking about the Big 15 Years Birthday of the VHL! Yes! You heard that correctly! VHL is now 15 Years Old! Wow! Where have I been all this time, to think VHL is already 15 years young now! I've only started my position here in the VHL Network in July 2020, just a tad over 2 years ago! In fact my first show was on July 14, 2020 where I've been following, really just one person's growth and career in the VHL, your beloved New York Americans alumni and Franchise player, Rhynex Entertainment @Rhynex Entertainment! Rhynex Entertainment is your New York Americans' elite franchise leader, retiring as 3rd in Franchise History in Goals (272) while playing a season less than your franchise 1 and 2 in Jukka Hakkinen and Xin Xie Xia, 7th in Franchise history in Assists (358), and 4th in Franchise points, where 1, 2, and 3 each had 72 more games played (honourably mentioning your franchise points leader Conner Low!). Rhynex Entertainment amassed a terrific 630 points and 1008 hits over 504 career games with your New York Americans over the span of 7 seasons between Season 75 and Season 81. And today, we have the legend, Rhynex entertainment, himself, here in the studios! Please welcome, Rhynex Entertainment! (Loud generic cheering and clapping sounds as Rhynex Entertainment step out through the sliding doors) Welcome Rhynex! Thank you for finding time to come in today! Rhynex Entertainment: Thank you for having me back! It is good to be back on the show here in New York! (Rhynex Entertainment shakes hands with the Host) Host: The pleasure is all mine! Today we will be discussing about the 15 Years of the VHL and wishing the VHL a grandiose Happy Birthday! Rhynex Entertainment: Sounds exciting! I started in Season 73 in the VHLM and it's only been 2 years since we've reached Season 84. To think there's already a 15 years history of the VHL. Quite fascinating! We've had 11 seasons in 2 years, looks like we've been keeping a natural pace. And here people are complaining about not having games go by quickly enough, etc. etc. The VHL has been doing the same thing, at the same speed for a good whole 15 years. Let's leave the tradition be and let it continue at the correct pace! Host: Well said! As you could probably see, the VHL have evolved over the years as technology improved and people come and go over the past decade and a half. How do you feel the direction of the VHL is going and about the evolution history of the VHL? Rhynex Entertainment: Well, I haven't really been here long enough to give you a proper response. Host: And neither have I, let's discuss about what we know and what your thoughts are. Rhynex Entertainment: Well, the VHL started a long time ago dating back to the prehistoric fossil ages where there were a limited number of players and teams. As we move forward in the timeline, more teams and leagues enter the scope of the VHL. To go along with the Professional hockey league of the VHL, the minors and development league, the VHLM was created. The Junior World Championships took flight as people from different cultures and countries starting playing in the VHL. As players grew up, they head to the competitive professional VHL . A World Championships tournament began to develop as players from different nations try their best to show the world that they are the best. A tournament where the best of each nations play every 4 years! We also found ourselves an offseason Victory ProAm league to help players stay in shape over the offseason. And then the VHL expanded further to add in another development level for players to get ready for the VHL grind. We have the creation of the JST, Junior Showcase Tournament, played in-between seasons during the offseason, and the VHLE, a fantastic development league similar to the American Hockey League is for the National Hockey League. I personally have not played in most of these leagues, but rumours are, those who do not develop properly in the VHLE and jump straight into the VHL top tier professional league, they may find themselves in a sticky situation in their sophomore season when their competitive class come up more developed to play their rookie season. Some may call it, the sophomore slump curse. Others may call it just underdevelopment. Host: You forgot about the evolution of the league to the Hybrid System to help goalies cope with the ever fast and furious goal scoring offense and defense. Rhynex Entertainment: Yes. The Hybrid System. A system of play still unbeknownst to myself, and very much a strange new world for others. I believe we're in the second season of play with this new strategy. A work in development. But certainly a good change in pace. It gives a bit of a new separation to skaters. Players are just getting stronger and stronger, sturdier and sturdier. Just lack mobility but are effective. Others are more mobile yet ineffective. We'll only see the fruition of those seeds planted last season come to life in a few more seasons. Maybe when the VHL turns 16! Host: Tell me about the state of the New York Americans and how you, as a Franchise player, developed a pretty nice VHL career. Rhynex Entertainment: Back in my day, well I can't really say that. It really hasn't been that long ago. New York has been in a bit of a rebuilding trend. They have a lot of good prospects coming up in coming seasons, and they already have a stud defensive pairing who are just in their prime. Maybe clearing off some older prospect contracts for more future picks and focus on development and scouting for the next few seasons. Restock in a wealth of youth in every position and they should be good to contend, but a definite and proper refresh might be imminent at this time. There's not much to talk about for my career. I had a good run, plenty of good seasons that were not good enough. We had a good team that just couldn't get out of a strong North American conference at that time. Host: Wouldn't you say you had a spectacular rookie and final season? You led all rookies in Season 75 and had a tremendous 63 goals and 127 points final season in Season 81! You would have won the Rookie of the Year with your production in any other season! Rhynex Entertainment: You could say, I came into the VHL strong and left brilliantly. But those were some forgettable seasons. Not much came to show for them. We were in the midst of rebuilds in those two seasons. Statistically they were also my worse two seasons as a team, with a -13 and a -35 season, respectfully. At the end of the day, we missed the playoffs in both seasons and we did not win any awards either. But, the future will be bright here in New York! Just wait through another wave and the future is limitless. Host: A limitless future sounds pretty good to me! We are out of time for today. Thank you for coming in today, Rhynex! Look forward to speaking with you again! [Word Count 1298] [Claims for weeks ending 2022-07-24 and 2022-07-31]

A showcase of magnificent goaltending follows as we have a fantastic goaltending duel between Calgary Wranglers' Ben Dahl @Ben and D.C. Dragons' Bubbles Utonium @fishy. As the game started to head toward crunch time, the Wranglers began to have an increase in offensive zone time. Shots began to fly and buzz from all directions as penalties began to lurk more often against the Dragons. Bubbles began to stand on their head as the Dragons remain in the game with the Wranglers continuing to lead by one and looking to extend on their 2 - 1 lead. It is not until the final three minutes of regulation does Bubbles finally show a crack in their iron defence. Saku Kotkakoivu scores his second of the night, once again on the power play, at 17:09 in the third period as Calgary extends their lead to 3 - 1, late in the third period. Leandro Goncalves scores his second career goal just a dozen seconds later to seemingly bring the game out of reach at 17:21. Asher Reinhart @rjfryman gives D.C. Dragons some life with a late penalty just moments after the 4 - 1 goal, but little too late as Ben shuts the door and the Calgary Wranglers win their first game of Season 84. Calgary Wranglers outshot the D.C. Dragons 25 to 12 in the third period and 51 to 35 over all in the game. Final score Calgary Wranglers 4 - 1 D.C. 16. We are a third way done Season 84 as we finish up week two in the VHL. We found time to speak with Calgary Wranglers sophomore defenseman AirRig GoodBrandSun @Rhynex Entertainment. Last week, we saw a very strong start for AirRig GoodBrandSun's Wranglers and we discussed about a tough week of hockey for the youngster. Reporter: Hello AirRig! Glad to see you again! Your team has fallen a bit in the standings over the last week. How is the situation in the locker room? We noticed GM @Ricer13 has been making a lot of line changes over the week. AG: Hello. It has been an ups and downs kind of week. We're in a good mind set in the locker room. There's always a down week in hockey, we're right in the mix of things. It's a tougher conference this season. Reporter: You've made some progress this week on the score sheet, notching your first goal of the season and adding another 9 assists during the week of hockey. What changed? What are you doing to help your production rise from last week? AG: I've had a better week of hockey. There's definitely a lot to work on and improve, but a better week of hockey personally. GM Ricer has been a great help and little work on my wrist shot also goes a long way I guess! Reporter: Sounds good! Look forward to speaking you next time! Best of luck! [Word count 241]
  17. After a week of play in the VHL, we found time to speak with Calgary Wranglers sophomore defenseman AirRig GoodBrandSun @Rhynex Entertainment to discuss about the start of the S84 VHL season. Reporter: Hello AirRig! Glad to see you again! A week of VHL hockey has come and gone in Season 84. How are you feeling after the week of hockey? AG: Hello. It's definitely been a good week of hockey for Calgary. A bit underwhelming on my part, but when you're part of such a good group of guys, you only really care about winning as a team! Reporter: You've only have 3 assists in your first 9 games of S84, is this a cause for concern? What are you doing to help yourself improve on the score sheet? AG: You're right, I did not have a very good week of hockey. I've been on the ice at the right times but have not been very productive defensively or offensively. Definitely need to work on every part of my game and go back to the basics. Hopefully I could get a goal to get the monkey off my back and start building offensively. Reporter: Look forward to week two. Best of luck out there! [Word count 204]
  18. You are having a very underwhelming season so far, according to my scouts
  19. S84 VHL First Featured Game Welcome to a brand new VHL season! Today we have our first featured game of Season 84 of the VHL! Our first featured game is indeed the very first game of the season. We have an all European match up, with the Prague Phantoms visiting the Helsinki Titans to start things off for Season 84. The Helsinki Titans came to play tonight for their home fans after a long layoff offseason with no preseason to test the waters in for Season 84. Nezuko @Baozi opens the scoring for the VHL in Season 84. The goal for the Titans' mighty Left Winger came 1:37 into the first game of Season 84. Titans' veteran superstar Reylynn Reinhart @Ricer13 scores on the Power Play at 10:29 in the first period for her first goal of her final season. A goal that gives their rookie sensation Hammar Voss @BOOM his first point of his VHL career. Nezuko gets their second goal of the night and third point of the game just 19 seconds later at 10:48, giving the home team Helsinki Titans an early 3 - 0 lead. The Helsinki Titans finished the opening period outshooting the visiting Prague Phantoms 23 to 15 and out scoring 3 - 0. Titans lead 3 - 0 after one. Reylynn Reinhart pots in another at 10:40 as the Helsinki Titans continue their domineering play in the Prague Phantoms' zone. Nico Pearce @Spartan scores their first of the new season at 16:34, and followed up with their second of the night less than a minute later at 17:19 to give the Helsinki Titans a 8 - 0 lead with less than three minutes to go in the third period. And then, Prague Phantoms' star player, Perry Laperriere @KaleebtheMighty breaks the silence and scoring their first goal of Season 84 at 18:23 in the third period, ruining the Helsinki Titans' best player and superstar goaltender Xavier Booberry's @CowboyinAmerica shutout bid. With the shots being 23 to 6 for the Helsinki Titans in the third period, the Titans should be ashamed of themselves for letting one slip by Xavier Booberry with less than two minutes left in the game.
