  1. Learning a lot about people so far this season. Thanks to everyone working to make this an inclusive and fun environment for everyone, regardless of how much TPE they earn a week.

  2. I think its kind of harsh to say the GMs have failed this player. I've gone and checked, every single one of them made the information available, and in every reasonable way made it as easy as possible for the player to do tasks. We can't force players to do tasks. It is not a failure for the player or the GM to not have them do tasks. It is perfectly reasonable to only click welfare and practice facility, I mean there are GMs at every level that this is their earning strategy. I think it's 100% fair to say if the player wanted to, they would have at this point. Obviously reaching out in private can help, and there are plenty of players that I've worked with almost exclusively through DMs, but it was never "you should do this task", it was always a "hey I see your earning has lowered/stopped, how's it going, and is there anything I can do to help you out?". How long would you expect someone to exist in this league and watch the other players earn more TPE, and do better in the sims, and talk about their tasks, and maybe read tasks and not once come to the conclusion that you were missing something? The player isn't dumb, and the information was made available. Someone mentioned this in another thread, but plenty of us high and mighty earning members started off as welfare players. Sometimes you just need to sit back and observe for a while, see a career through before engaging in tasks. Can we not celebrate that the player made it to the VHL, after dedicating so much of their time to get there? Is it not a testament to how GOOD of a job the GMs have done, keeping a player engaged despite not seeing much week-to-week progress? Is it not amazing to see another cheap player available to the VHL GMs to fill out their rosters? Is this not exactly what GMs have been begging for across all of the leagues for years? I'm confused why we're using this as an opportunity to criticize each other. Sorry this player isn't good enough for you, but I'm taking the opportunity to celebrate the fact that they just played their first 2 VHL games, and I'll be rooting them on for the rest of their career.
  3. It's been brewing for a while but with the recent FA discussions, trade season and Draft Interviews it's been a recurring theme in the interactions I've been seeing around the league.
  4. This has been a really demoralizing week to be a VHLM GM if I’m being entirely honest. So much of our job is to take every single member who comes onto the site, and provide them with the information and the confidence to post forum content and engage with the site. To come out of their shells and forge connections with other members and take advantage of the great social network we have. But this week we have proven once again that the only thing that matters to some people is TPE earning. We have completely stripped away everything that used to simply be fun, and made it a grueling process of maximization and efficiency. And if these comments were about me, who cares I’ll handle it. But the fact that people are putting down the players that I have had the absolute pleasure of having in my various circles here on the forum, and telling them they aren’t worthy of having a spot as a member on this site has been an awful feeling. The fact that multiple people have come out this week outright saying that they don’t feel welcome if they don’t max earn is horrible. And this isn’t coming from the trolls and in no means is this in a joking or sarcastic tone. GMs at EVERY level have shown their true colors this week and have proven over and over again that they do not care on any level about their players as human beings. They see their players as a TPE total, and more importantly a weekly earning chart. I should not be looking at a list of teams and hoping my Marlins don’t get drafted/traded there. I should not be worried about whether my players are prepared to handle the VHL without any support or resources of any kind. I shouldn’t be reading accounts daily of people who don’t feel valued on their current team, or as a prospect of their current organization. I also should not be seeing accounts, regularly of players who had no idea how to do point tasks. I’m sick of watching promising talent fizzle out every time I see them hit certain organizations. I’m sick of seeing players that I’ve known and loved leave the Marlins and immediately go IA. I’m sick of hounding down GMs to come reach out to their draftees and talk to them about their plan with them. I’m sick of having players reach out to me asking for me to trade for them/ draft them to avoid certain organizations. I am in no way perfect, and I’m sure there are plenty of players I haven’t connected to enough. I’m sure my GM style hasn’t clicked with everyone I’ve had the pleasure of GMing. There are plenty of decisions I’ve made that I regret, or I think were beneficial to me but not the player. The longer I do this, the more I learn. But I’m sick of watching the same patterns perpetuate, and watching this cloud of negativity swarming over anyone that doesn’t earn 107 TPE per week. The players see what you’re saying. There are real people behind those players. They aren’t stupid, they know that earning is related to performance. We all balance how much we contribute to the site and how much we try to get out of it. Many people are satisfied being a depth piece, so long as they are still a valued member of their team. No wonder we can’t get welfare + players into the VHL. No wonder they go inactive at a high rate. The odds of actually being valued at every level is apparently pretty low. It doesn’t matter what rules we put in place if we treat these players as if they aren’t valuable.
  5. A new era of Marlins hockey is upon us, and to usher us into this new era, we have some wonderful leaders to announce. These players bring their A game every day, and encompass everything it means to be a Marlin. We have a lot to be excited about this season, as we start up games today. With a dominant D core right out the gate, many up and coming forwards, and a wily veteran goaltender, this team looks primed to take on the postseason with force, and work our way into what is hopefully a title defense. Without further ado, here are the wonderful members who we are proud to name our captains. Our leader on defense, a face we’re thrilled to see around the locker room, and a criminally underrated earner on the forum. Our Assistant Captain: Jack Jeckler @Uncommon A longtime Marlin who preaches the power of balance. A forward with no weaknesses and plenty of strengths, achieved by driven consistency. Our Assistant Captain: Ben Dover @Zylen_a.k.a_ぞソしeれ A longstanding member of our leadership team, and someone who has sacrificed everything to be the best Marlin possible. Our Captain: Sjin @Mint
  6. I think y'all are forgetting that Rage is the GOAT, and a Marlins legend. I think he's an incredible fit for Davos, and will get a much better opportunity there than in CGY in the coming seasons. Rage was deservedly a high 2nd rounder, and assuming Davos plans on still being good in S88, then that 89 pick will be slightly higher than where Rage was drafted, and the 4th compensates for that. Perfectly understandable trade in my opinion.
  7. ME TOO (preferably Moreau though)
  8. So my VHFL group finished a while ago so its time for me to review my selections and tell you why I did them and how good of a pick I think they were. Hopefully this has the same affect as STZ's review usually does and these players are incredible this season. Alright my first pick was Vasile Lamb. I feel like this isn’t the safest second pick, especially with heading to a new team, but that was actually the reason I was so excited to pick Lamb. Considering the competition in the Warsaw forward group, for Lamb to do that well last season just means that as the uncontested leader in a rather underwhelming DC forward group, there is good potential to do better than last season. My second pick was Vinny Detroit, another player moving teams, and another player leaving a pretty solid Davos roster to join a rather underwhelming Stars roster. You know what you’re getting with Detroit, and that is physicality. Should have no difficulty keeping that up, now its just hoping the offense can keep up (or improve). Third pick was Saku Kotkakoivu, who used to be a consensus top 3 pick back when I started paying attention. Prague looks pretty good despite losing Jokinen to retirement, and Saku should be able to form a nice duo with one of the forwards. Pretty safe pick here and one I’m happy to make especially in the 3rd round. Fourth was Tavish DeGroot, who in my opinion has one of the best opportunities to succeed in the league this season. Riga is pretty barren, as their prospects grow up, and DeGroot has the opportunity to be a powerhouse with absolutely no internal competition. Riga may not win a lot, but DeGroot should be getting a large portion of the sim-mandated points. Fifth was an interesting one for me, as I had to look beyond the initial D list I had made. Once again looking at last season’s rankings and looking for someone who has a better opportunity than they did last season. Pierre Emile Bouchard has been growing for the last few seasons sheltered behind Biggie Cheese and Nathan Powers. But now, Pierre is the top dog on the back end for a fringe contender Wolves team. Could be a breakout candidate and in the 5th round, that’s exactly what I need. Sixth round is goalie time and somehow with the second last pick I land the top goaltender (at least TPA-wise) in the league. Booberry should have a great time with Davos this season behind a great D core and a competitive forward group. Always nice to get one of your top choices in net. Anyways that’s the team! Sorry if I curse you, but I want to win VHFL, and my group is strong so I need all the good luck I can get. Sorry for those who picked Landon Wolanin, he is in fact going to have a garbage season, and you should have picked Molly the Cat instead.
