Nepto got a reaction from Smarch in Yakolevsky is going out
Maksim Yakolevsky, the Season 74 33rd overall pick, has reached his final season in the VHL, with his mandatory retirement coming up as the season ends. It has to be said that Yakolevsky had not been particulary succesful during his career. As a late bloomer it would take him 3 seasons with four different teams in the VHLM to reach the big league, where his rights were acquired by the London United a couple seasons prior. He barely saw any ice-time during his "rookie" season as was shipped off the following season, as Londons cap became tighter with the acquisition of difference makers. Instead, Yakolevsky found a new home in DC with the Dragons, which he would not leave for the remainder of his career. He would help the Dragons make the playoffs in 3 out of his 5 total seasons there, but unfortunately they never were able to make it all the way.
"It has been a long career, hasn't it? To be honest, its about time that I hang them up for good. When I was growing up, all I could think of was hockey, I truly wanted to become a star that could compete with the best of them. Now after several years of the grind that is professional hockey, I have to say that all that passion is gone. At some point you are just dragging yourself through week by week. Now, I dont want to complain. I made a nice fortune over the years by "just playing",  but in the end of the day it turned my hobby into my job and I grew to dislike it. You won't see myself back in the scene, at least for the foreseeable future."

Nepto got a reaction from diacope in Yakolevsky shows signs of regression
“Sometimes things are not great, but decent enough that you are still happy. I guess that is the most fitting description of my current situation.” This was Maksim Yakolevskys answer, when a reporter recently asked him about the state of the D.C. Dragons. Yakolevsky, who had arrived more than two seasons ago,  had helped the team to the VHL playoffs during Season 78, continuing on his solid, but not head turning performances in the major league. But throughout the offseason it became apparent, that his best days were already past him. Maksim looked tired throughout the training camp and further reinforced this impression so far this season. “You know, I have played this game since I was 8 years old and always saw me playing it for at least 25 years. But my years in the professional scene are starting to mount and so does the toll on my body. I have tried my best to preserve my health, but in the end we are putting in a an insane workload to get to this level and maintain it for a while. Lets see how far I might be able to push it before my body starts to fall apart.”

We caught up with DC Dragons Maksim Yakolevsky after the Dragons had just ended their regular season with a loss to the Seattle Bears. Yakolevsky had arrived in DC after having parted ways with the London United where he had spent his first season in the pros. “The offseason was quite chaotic, that’s for sure. I enjoyed being in London, but I knew that due to my limitations as a player I would be the first one to go if the cap got close. Well it happened, but I somehow got “traded” to Moscow despite being a free agent….of sorts? Then did not get signed there and thankfully landed here in DC.” Throughout the season, Yakolevsky showed some improvement, but still leaves a lot to be desired. “Honestly, if you ask me if I provided positive value to the team then I would not know what to answer you. I am not a huge voice in the locker room, I am neither the most talented nor the most hardworking guy on the team. I guess if the GM wants me to stick around that speaks for itself? But I don’t know how much value I will be able to provide before my time is up.”

Nepto got a reaction from diacope in Yakolevskys VHLM career retroperspective
We caught up with the San Diego Marlins Maksim Yakolevsky in which has been a turbulent season for him so far. The Wingman is currently scheduled to join the VHLs London United after the current season has concluded, making this his last run in the VHLM playoffs. Yakolevsky is no stranger to the playoffs, having already participated in the S73 Playoffs with the Las Vegas Aces and the S74 with the Yukon Rush. But at the beginning of S75 he seemingly fell out of favor with the Rush management, seeing his minutes as well as his production plummet in the process. After a short, but gruesome stint with the Ottawa Lynx, where his only ray of light was his four goal game against the Aces, he was picked up by the Marlins. In San Diego, he would rise again as one of the best scorers in the league, helping the Marlins in their seasonlong rise towards the top of the standings. “It’s honestly been a blessing to play in San Diego. I felt at home in the locker room from Day 1 and couldn’t wish to be in a better situation. Now all there is left is to win this years championship.”

Nepto reacted to diacope in Rookie scouts active Prospects
The season is well underway and the recently drafted players are either still grinding or falling down the live draft rankings, it's still early but I wanted to take a look at the London United prospects and see how've performed in the VHLM. Here's a list of our active guys and how much potential I think they have.

    LW | Nathan Perry |
    Potential ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Management in Miami are definitely giving themselves a pat on the back after acquiring this talented young wing in the draft 33rd overall, ever since his first time showing up at practice Perry hasn't missed a day yet! This season we see an even more involved and impactful player whose given a much needed spark in the Marauders lineup (Currently 2nd in the Western Conference), so far Nathan has gotten a point a game and most of those came from opportunities created by launching the puck anytime the chance came, shooting more than 4 a game.

Looking in the future I'm excited to see how Nathan Perry will fit into our line up, right now we only have 5 forwards signed and only one of them play on the left side of the ice, although it's possible for N.P. to move up and get some playing time, another season playing in the sunshine will help the forward get ready for stronger talent being one of the best in his draft class still in the minors.

    D | Tee Pee E II |
    Potential ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

First of all I'm a fan of odd names and for some reason Tee Pee E II just sounds so cool. He's part of my draft class and our only prospective defenseman playing in the minors, a steal in our class after only producing 18 points in 72 games last season but the scouts took a chance after looking back at how well he did in his first season, now we see him back in action and better than ever! This season Pee E focused his efforts in training to become a playmaking speedster for the Kings and Rush, scoring 7 times (4 on the PP) and assisting 40 times (16 on the PP) while using his speed to block 86 shots, making him a key player on the offensive unit.

Right now London has 5 defenders under contract and 2 of them are free agents next season, there's a small chance but still an opportunity to fit into the lineup but another season playing in the M is recommended so whenever he does advance there will be a spot ready for his sharpened skills.

    RW | Kelly Power |
    Potential  ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ .5

I've had the joy to play with Kelly in Las Vegas and his work ethic rubs off on his teammates, although he hasn't had the best puck luck the little things he does makes the team better. In 51 games Power has just 26 points but has made a name for himself in the physical area, amounting 162 hits (Over 3 a game and 5th in the league right now) plus he's been an annoyance in front of the opposition's netminder every shift.

Like Nathan Perry, K.P. can probably fit somewhere in the line up as a swiss knife in the near future and further development in the VHLM will help craft a more deadly two-way threat.

    LW | Maksim Yakolevsky |
    Potential  ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ .5

Another player I played with before after being called up this season and we are also were part of the same draft class, a little bit of a journeyman in playing on 4 different teams in 2 seasons but with hundreds of strategies thrown at him to learn that only helped him develop into a goal scoring threat who'll have chemistry with anybody who can pass. Looking at his stats from the current season, Yakolevsky has scored 28 times (9 with the extra man) and counting, 2 behind his 30 scored in 72 last season with plenty of time left to get more than that as long as he keep firing them at the net like he has (241 total shots, 43 more than last season).

It's probably not going to be at least a couple of seasons before the fans chant "Maksim Maksim Maksim" because the United have a lot of goal scorers but that doesn't mean he can't compete in the VHL, you never know.. The right line up strategy needs his cannonball of a shot, nonetheless the future forward crew is going to fill any voids with similar skillsets.

    C | Hendrix Cobberson |
    Potential ⭐ ⭐

One of our prospects I know little about and there's not whole lot of history to breakdown either but I see potential if the consistent Hendrix can earn a little more each week so he can build his player out more, like claiming welfare for 6 per week instead of only 2. Still in his debut season without a goal (1 assist in 42 games) and playing on a strong Miami team, Cobberson has the time to learn and little ice time to do it, it'll be easier to get a read on his potential next season when more opportunities arise.

London is loaded with centers and it'll be some time before a spot opens up but if everything lines up right by the time newcomer H.C. caps the United could use his talents in a depth role.

    LW | Jon Strider |
    Potential ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Just recently heard of Jon after his trade from Houston and he's definitely a gem that just needs a little chiseling, Strider's build is almost identical to Kelly Power minus the height, his numbers have been pretty good considering the ice-time received playing on one of the leagues best teams (7 goals 13 assists in 50 games) and will only get better next season playing in a bigger role for the Marlins.

Looking into the future I can see J.S. fitting into a 3rd line role but that's the fourth prospect winger we have, solidifying the position if everybody keeps earning.. They're might not be much room now but we shouldn't see any more drafted in the near future.

    VHL Holiday Special

    Hi Everyone,

As you all know, the holiday season is upon us! A quick glance at the Season Schedule will show you that today is supposed to be the start of the S75 Theme Week, but given the timing of things, we are doing it a bit different this season and throwing it back to last year’s massively successful 12 Days of Christmas and Annual Charity Drive, with a bit of a different twist this time around.

Beginning today, we will kick off our Donation Drive and 12 Days of Christmas. On Friday, December 11th, we will begin our Holiday Auction where members will be able to bid on things from Custom Forum or Discord Groups (including a choice of colour for your personal group, to distinguish yourself from everyone else) to naming rights on a next player, and anything in between.

Similar to last year, the league has selected Food Banks Canada and Feeding America as our charitable organizations for this year’s donation drive, as we look to help those less fortunate than us in a year that needs it more than ever. As with our previous two donation drives, the league will take 0% from any money received, as 100% of the money raised will go to the two organizations.

How will it all work? Essentially the same as last year, but here are the exact details for each portion of our holiday season for 2020:

    Charity Drive: December 7th - 20th
Starting right now, members can begin donating. Whether you do so through the league, by donating HERE, privately to either organization, or any charitable foundation of your choosing (receipt proof required for donations made outside the league), it will all count towards the overall contribution from the league.

From that overall contribution, the league will match donations up to $500 CAD, and add that to the donations through the league, splitting the total contribution (money donated through the league + the league contribution) equally to both organizations.

Please post all confirmations of donation to THIS THREAD. Any donation of $5 CAD, or more, will result in an automatic personal reward, which will be outlined in the prizes/milestones below.

As this is the season of giving, members may donate on behalf of one other user.

    12 Days of Christmas: December 7th - 18th
This year’s 12 Days of Christmas will be similar to last year’s, where there will be a daily thread to claim “tickets” into our final raffle, which will be drawn on Wednesday, December 23rd on a live stream. For this raffle, there will be 4 tiers of prizes, with each day contributing to your entry into each tier, as follows:

Dec. 07 - 09: Post in the corresponding thread each day for an entry into the Tier 1 raffle (1 ticket gained per day)
Dec. 10 - 12: Post in the corresponding thread each day for an entry into the Tier 2 raffle (1 ticket gained per day)
Dec. 13 - 15: Post in the corresponding thread each day for an entry into the Tier 3 raffle (1 ticket gained per day)
Dec. 16 - 18: Scavenger Hunt. Each day we will post an image of the 3 Commissioners in a mystery location. Find all 3 for a single entry into the Tier 4 raffle, as well as 1 Uncapped TPE. You will have until 11:59PM PST each day to send a PM with a link to that day’s image to @VHL Santa.

**Please use the same PM with a new response each day, to make it easier to keep track of who has found all 3 images.**

    Number of Winners per tier
    Tier 1: 10 Winners Tier 2: 5 Winners Tier 3: 3 Winners Tier 4: 1 Winner
    Holiday Charity Auction: December 11th - 15th
Beginning on Friday, the 11th, we will open all auctions in a specially created forum, with all opening bids set to $2 CAD, and a minimum $0.50 raise for all bids. These auctions will close at 11:59PM PST on Tuesday, December 15th. All winners will then be asked to pay their winning bid to the league donation pool, through the league paypal, and all proceeds from the Holiday Auction will count towards the overall contribution to the organizations, from the league.

In addition to winning the auctioned items, anyone who wins will also be eligible to claim the same personal reward as those who donate $5 or more, which will be outlined in the prizes/milestones below.

If you would like to donate an item to be auctioned off, please PM one of the Commissioners.

The Auctions can be found HERE

Drunk Birb Holiday Charity Stream: December 12th @ 7PM EST
Resident VHL Streamer/Eggnog aficionado @Esso2264 will be doing a live gaming stream on Saturday, December 12th, where all proceeds will be donated/added to the overall league tally.

    Rewards and Donation Milestones
As previously mentioned, there will be personal rewards to those who participate in the charity drive / holiday auction, as well as milestones to hit that will result in rewards for the community as a whole!

$5 Donation / Auction Win: 2 Uncapped TPE + Full Free Week (12 Capped TPE) + 1 Ticket to Tiers 1-3 of the 12DoC Raffle

Happy Holidays VHL, let's work together to help make them extra special for those less fortunate!

    1. We got a good team chemistry and it carries over to our earning. Also that dipshit called fonzi and Spartan knew me from other leagues so they knew what I was about.
    2. It will be very close. I think we can put up a good fight against everyone and so do most of the playoff teams
    3. Give me 10,000 rats, who the fuck could kill them all before they get swarmed. On top of that, the 5 gorillas. Who wants to mess with a Silverback? Noone wants that, not even a bear.
    4. Havent played both in months, beside the differing region.
    5. Less money for a cup, though I am more about a chill squad than money or winning.
