    I just love this guy's name.  I also really like the feeling of intensity the render evokes.  You have made the render contrast enough with the background to make it stand out.  I also like you choice of font.  It is easily read and does nor clash with the rest of the graphic.  Your colour scheme is consistent with no real distractors.  I would have like to have seen this graphic a bit brighter, it seems a bit dark.  But that is only my opinion.  Overall, though, this good work. 8.5/.10

    Noodles Marconi
    Junior Review

    As mentioned in his Prospect Scouting Report, Noodles came to the VHLM late in Season 82.  Although he has a decent skill set to start with he still had a lot of areas in which to improve.  He was offered a position with the Mexico City Kings for the balance of that season.  In 12 regular season games he put up 8 points, 5 goals and 3 assists.  He followed this up with another 8 points , 2 goals and 6 assists in the ensuing 11 playoff games in which he participated.  And that was all she wrote for Noodles’ Junior career.  I suppose he could have had a more illustrious career had he chosen to remain in the VHLM, but at the end of S82 he chose to play in the VHLE.  Due to the fact that Noodles had yet to be drafted, Season 83 being his draft season, he was not included in a few things, like the VHLE Draft and Training Camp. He was picked up as a free agent by the Istanbul Red Wolves where he saw limited ice time on a star-studded roster.  In the 72 games he played, Noodles amassed an underwhelming 11 points, 4 goals and 11 assists.  Istanbul bowed out of the playoffs early.  In the 7 playoff games Noodles reflected his regular season production and accounted for 2 points, 1 goal and 1 assist.

    After having played somewhat more than a full season as a free agent, Noodles was finally drafted.  He went 19th overall and was drafted by the Davos Dynamo.  He remained a Dynamo for a total of about 15 hours whereupon he was traded to the Malmo Nighthawks.  It was unlikely that Noodles would crack the Nighthawks lineup and play a significant role there, so, he returned to the VHLE where he was again picked up by the Istanbul Red Wolves.  There he has made an impact.  He is currently getting first line minutes with the Wolves and has produced 57 points in his 52 games played, 22 goals and 35 assists. He is third in point production on the Wolves behind Busser and Hoodie.  The Red Wolves are currently in first place in the VHLE holding a slim 2 point advantage over the Bratislava Watchmen.  If Noodles and his teammates can continue to consistently win games, especially against Bratislava, they could finish first in the league.  Then, on to the playoffs.  During this “second season”, consistency will again be a huge factor.  The Wolves will have to maintain their winning ways to progress.  Noodles would dearly love to hoist a cup in this his apparent final season in the VHLE.

    Fun fact: we’ve never actually changed sim engines.

    Unless of course you mean that leagues prior to the VHL didn’t use STHS which would be true. As far as I’m aware we were the first player sim to use it.

    I haven't really updated you all regarding Noodles progression.  Overall, it looks like Noodles will be a journeyman center.  Nothing really outstanding, but a contributor on both sides of the puck  It doesn't seem that he is a liability, but neither is he a superstar.  Reflecting back a bit, Noodles had a tumultuous off-season.  He continued to develop his skills.  He also played 8 games for Team Europe in the World Junior Championship where he contributed a total of 2 points, a goal and an assist, seeing limited ice time.  The next event to affect Noodles was the VHL draft.  Noodles had already played about a season and a half by this time.  After being drafted, he would finally see a payday.  Noodles was drafted in the first round, ninth overall by the Davos Dynamo.  He was a Dynamo for about 15 hours whereupon he was dealt to the Malmo Nighthawks.  Noodles was still not developed enough to crack the Nighthawks line up and so was assigned to the VHLE , specifically the Istanbul Red Wolves, where he had played a somewhat limited role the previous season. Currently, Noodles patrols both right and left wings (depending on what line he plays) for the Red Wolves.  The Red Wolves started off the season somewhat slowly, but quickly surged and are now the cream of the VHLE, leading the league with 56 points (26-8-4) after 38 games played.  During those 38 games Noodles has contributed 43 points (14 goals, 29 assists) and is third in team scoring, only one point back of second place currently held by his long time friend  AK92 Wit da Hoodie @hedgehog337.  By way of comparison, Noodles was only able to account for 11 points (4 goals and 7 assists) during the entirety of the S83 Regular Season.

    In a recent interview by Gale Force, a journalist of some renown, Noodles was asked to what he could attribute this sudden uptick in his performance.  Noodles replied, "  I think it can be attributed to a number of things.  Last season I didn't have the skill development to really make any more of an impact.  Since then I have maxed out the skill number that one can attain in this league.  Last season, as well, the Red Wolves had a number of highly skilled wingers.  This had the effect of reducing the amount of ice team I would see regardless of my skill level.  Those guys have, by and large, moved on to bigger and better things in the VLH leaving room for a large increase in ice time as well as the opportunity of playing with other talented forwards.  This all pays off in terms of point production."

    Gale's other question was with regard to the Red Wolves as a team.  She asked if Noodles thought that the torrid pace set by his team was sustainable.  "  Well, as you know. anything can happen in hockey.  We could stay hot like we are now, or we could slide into a slump.  All they guys can do is keep coming to the rink with a positive attitude and ready to work.  If this is the case, there should be no reason why we can't finish first in the league."

    1). We are sitting on top of the standings in the VHLE. Do you think we can hold on and continue leading the standings?

    I can't see why not.  Of course the vagaries of the sim engine has a lot to do with it.

    2). Who on our team right now would you say has the best chances of being our team MVP?

    I like AK92 for this.  Good offense and defense. @hedgehog337

    3). How is your player doing right now?

    Pretty average, but seems to be a contributor.

    4). Are you watching the NHL draft? If so, how is your team doing?

    I guess Toronto is doing as well as they could.  Even so, their draft is pretty thin.

    5). How many points do you think the Red Wolves will finish with at the end of the season?

    We should end up with between 90 - 100 points if we can keep up the current pace.

    6). Are you a morning person or an evening person?

    Definitely morning.  That is when I get the most accomplished.

    I am kind of giving away the bottom line of this article in the title.  But to keep you up to date.  Since my last missive about Noodles, he was asked to play in the World Junior Championship with Team Europe.  Noodles wasn't what one would call an offensive threat, but, in his limited ice time he did chip in for a couple of points as Team Europe went on to capture the championship.  Subsequent to that Noodles entered the VHL draft at long last.  He was drafted 19th overall by the Davos Dynamo.  He was a Dynamo for 15 hours before being traded to the Malmo Nighthawks where he signed a three year deal.  Because his TPE was still under 400, he was picked up for another year by the Istanbul Red Wolves where he is hoping to play a larger role than he did in his previous season there.  The Red Wolves had a number of early draft picks and have assembled another formidable team.  We shall see how Noodles fits into the mix !!

    The curtains have closed for the resilient Istanbul Red Wolves team. It was a hard fought series with Bratislava, the Red Wolves lost by simply one goal, in the 2nd overtime of game 7 of the S83 VHLE European Conference Finals... after being up 3-1 in the series. A brutal loss, but one that won't be taken without any lessons for the whole roster of Istanbul. Gaining experience in the playoffs, and being there in the first place wasn't being taken for granted 3 weeks ago, when Istanbul were on the outside of the playoffs looking in, being behind Geneva in both points while playing more games. The S83 Istanbul Red Wolves, were a tail to be told, the heroic late season comeback sparked by Siyan's speech will be remembered by all the roster players. The finish, wasn't the fairytale ending they were looking for. Although bittersweet, I'm sure the players inside the lockerroom will tell you that the journey is still the best part. Looking forward, each of the players on Istanbul look to have very bright future's ahead, with many players moving up to the VHL next season. Check back on this roster in 6 seasons, and it will be considered a Superteam. There's a lot of heart, and that's going to get each of the players far in their respective careers.

    Ryuji Sakamoto and the Istanbul Red Wolves are pushing hard to finish up their series against the Bratislava Watchmen. For the lithe Japanese defenseman, it means trying to do all the little things right, at the right times. For example, Sakamoto registered 281 hits in 72 regular season games, for an average of 3.9 hits per game. So far in the playoffs, Sakamoto is averaging 4.4 hits per game. Similarly, his shot blocks have increased from 2.76 a game to 4.4 blocks per game in the playoffs. In terms of keeping up with the simple and smart style, Sakamoto's shots per game have also increased, from 3.05 in the regular season to 4.2 in the playoffs. Sakamoto's performance thus far has led to him being tied for the playoff lead in Points, Assists, and Defensive Scoring. He leads the way in Blocked Shots and is third in Hits.

    "Coach said to get as many pucks to the net as we can, and I gotta do everything I can to help us win," Sakamoto told me following a frustrating game 5 loss to the Watchmen. "The team has worked hard all year, and now's the chance for us to do something I wasn't able to do last year in Mexico City. We gotta get to the finals and take down the big bad Iron Eagles, man."

    Vasteras, who dominated the Cologne Express in a sweep of the semifinal round, is waiting back home for the conclusion of the Istanbul versus Bratislava series. Vasteras's offensive duo of Phoebe Bridgers and Benjamin Franklin Chang gave opponents fits in the regular season, with the pair combining for 69 goals and 158 points. Goaltender Red Gaming led the league in Wins and Goals Against Average. Regardless of who advances between the Red Wolves and the Watchmen, their hands will be full against the powerhouse Iron Eagles, who finished the regular season with 10 more wins than the next team, which happens to be Sakamoto's Red Wolves.

    Far be it for me to appear biased in these articles, but I think between the two teams, Istanbul has a much better chance of knocking off the Iron Eagles than the Watchmen do, despite Bratislava finishing a point above Istanbul in the regular season. The biggest difference between the two teams is their offensive chops. Vasteras, unsurprisingly, led the way with 230 goals for in the regular season, all while giving up the fewest number of goals with 160. Bratislava's offensive output was downright anemic compared to much of the league as they finished with 191 goals. Istanbul finished third with 223. Defensively, the Watchmen had the second best goals surrendered number with 162, while Istanbul was third with 178.

    Istanbul cannot afford to overlook the Watchmen, however. Bratislava has now fought back to make the series 3-2, and while tonight's game in Turkey might be the end of the Watchmen's Season 83 Championship hopes, that is far from a guarantee. Regardless of the outcome of tonight's game, the rest of the series, and the Finals, I'm certain we're in for some entertaining hockey.

    Noodles and his team, The Istanbul Red Wolves, have entered the playoffs firing on all cylinders.  Currently, the Red Wolves lead their series with the Bratislava Watchmen 3 games to 1.  Bratislava finished the regular season with one point more than the Red Wolves, thus assuring themselves of home ice advantage.  This series has every indicator of being a long one as the two teams are very evenly matched.  Having said that, the Watchmen's backs are against the wall as they enter a series of 3 consecutive elimination games.  On a personal note, Noodles entered the playoffs as an undrafted free agent. so. to provide a little more distraction, as if it was needed, there have been a few VHL teams that have already interviewed him as a potential draft candidate.  This has not seemed to deflect Noodles' concentration though.  He has managed to erupt for 2 points (1 goal and 1 assist) in the 4 playoff games played thus far.  Hopefully this trend will continue as the Red Wolves make their run.  They should be able to knock out the Watchmen  and face the Vasteras Iron Eagles in the finals.  However, the Hockey Gods may have something to say about that !

    @hedgehog337 - the best member inn this league and don't even at me.

    @Molholt - being part of that three peat dynasty was cool even though Ben had to retire after first two championships. So here's my thanks.

    @hedgehog337 - the best GM in this league and don't even at me.

    @Tyler - helped me during my early days with Riga. I was a confused fella at that point, but he was chill with it and also was ok with swithing positions when it needed. By the way thanks for not reporting me for that tampering on Flyersfan lol.

    @hedgehog337 - the best human being in this league and a handsome fella in general. I appreciate that.

    @Kendrick - though he wasn't a fan of spending time in Riga cause he spent there previously for shitload of seasons already before. He was ok with giving it another go which certainly helped us in back to back. King was indeed a King there.

    @hedgehog337 - he's done so much for this league he need to be commish right now! idek what he did but for sure something big!

    @Will - John Locke ftw

    @hedgehog337 - 😘

    @Victor / @MubbleFubbles - the S62 and 63 draft classes did also big, but the whole playoff streak started with these two. And Vic is a cool fella as well so there's an appreciation from me. Also shoutout to @Devise for producing a steal.

    @hedgehog337 - I think he should become a president!

    @Tate - some members were really baffled when I picked him at #1 OV back then....ok I didn't pick, but THAT WAS MY PLAN REGARDLESS!!! Glad to see I'm being proven right so there's my appreciation. Also my first AGM and a cool fella in general.

    @hedgehog337 - even being slightly drunk doesn't stop him from being handsome!

    @Nykonax - played a big part on Riga success in early 70's. Test simming goes hard. The longest tenured Riga AGM actually too. And actually it was him who picked Tate lol.

    @hedgehog337 - he's teaching us some lessons like if you're feeling tired, go to sleep. Even if it's the VHL draft day. Incredible insight!

    @Matt thunder - tbh a special member to me. He really was reminding of me when I was slowly getting into this league and becoming a steal with Zeptenbergs. The same happened with Thunder. I'm wondering if I wasn't holding him back from applying banked TPE on Thunder....maybe Riga would've been better FOR REAL? Idk, but still it was real nice to have him Riga. Good luck with your goalie!

    @hedgehog337 - did you see that S75 draft and which team had the most picks there? GOAT GM!!! Everybody should appreciate that they were witnessing that greatness.

    @Ledge - speaking of which. My third AGM and one of two survivors from the S75 Riga draft class. Really was helping me on drafts. Like Thunder, never was planning to leave Riga despite of meh results. Really appreciated here.

    @hedgehog337 - the creator of sleepy GM meme! so many members had a good time with this so thanks to him for that.

    @Eynhallow - the second survivor of that draft class. Also a huge contribution on forum locker room. Pretty much the last time Riga forum LR was relevant. Shame I dropped the ball by summer, but ehhh. Also got to know Leafs a bit better cause of him lol.

    @hedgehog337 - puts smile on members faces by his avatar! how could you not love him???

    @Spaz - speaking a about activity...well, not in forum locker. But most of time Riga discord LR is poppin, he is there. So you know the level of his activity. Also helped us to not scramble for a goalie each offseason after Harvey was done. Shoutout to @Zetterberg and Ledge for suggesting Tobias to me, though I think Ledge actually did pick him, not me.

    @hedgehog337 - was making first gens happy by picking them early in the first round thus helping the retention!

    @Lemorse7 - the general of counting and red pandas are cool. Also thanks for not quitting after being caught on multis.

    Actually lots of memebers deserves thanks and appreciation. Like @jRuutu for banger medias, @boubabi, @pennypenny, @Bushito, early Nyko and @Dil etc for being entertaining by being in midst of some controversy or just having trolling ways. As the main VHL's bystander I do apprecitate that!

    oh yeah just remembered to appreciate @Renomitsu for having a successful comeback which def helped Riga.

    ....but also @hedgehog337 for being such an awesome guy!

    Please don't let me be misunderstood.  I think your graphic is really very good.  Perhaps my choice of words (i.e. "original") was not well considered.  The image of JC, and His pose (Sermon on the Mount), is quite common in Christian statuary....that is what I meant by "original".  Whether or not I am a Christian does not detract in any way from what you are trying to do here.  I think that any time a person creates a really good piece of art, especially one with religious content, there will be some reaction to it.  As we all know, religion and politics seem to bring something else out of all of us.  In any event, there was absolutely no disrespect intended.  Keep up the fine work.

    I think it is important to recognize the positive in things, so, ya, good choice.

    2 - After a massive winning streak, we're back on a losing skid. Is it because of quality of opponents, or did we peak too soon?

     It is more likely that our opponents picked up the pace somewhat.  We gotta get more aggressive on the puck.

    3 - Are you heading to the VHL next season? Either way, what do you expect your player's role to be next year?

    Much the same as it is this year with a bit more ice time.

    Appreciation

    I have to agree wholeheartedly with Beketov on this one.  All too frequently forum-based games, such as this one, can become toxic due to some perceived personal attack or inequity.  It is unfortunate that this type of post is, by far, the fewest in number, but seem to dominate the entire forum when they occur.  What seems to go unnoticed is the fact that the whole forum and all its activities are done by volunteers.  These folks work very hard at making sure things run smoothly and dealing with issues in a fair, unbiased manner when they arise.  My hat goes off to all of those people who give so much of their time and energy to making the VHL what it is.  The VHL is, in my opinion and enjoyable and interesting place to be.  If it weren’t I, for one, would not be participating.  Again, this is mostly because of the folks who run the site as well as many of the members who are of like mind.

    So what is all this appreciation stuff about anyway ?  According to The Harvard Business Review, whatever else we gain from our participation here, on this forum in specific, there may be nothing more important than feeling valued, feeling that we have contributed something of unique value to the forum as a whole and we are recognized for it.  At the basic level, being appreciated makes us feel safe.  And, as a consequence, frees us to do our best work, or give things our best effort.  The other side of that coin is that if a person does not feel appreciated, the attendant worry, concern and sometimes drama deflectc our energies away from the stuff that really matters.

    OK, so why are we nor slinging around “attaboys” or virtual back slaps with abandon?  Well, it appears that we are far more experienced in expressing negativity.  It is almost as though we don’t know how to express appreciation without feeling awkward about it. So what can a person do?  Firstly, there should be a bit more thought going into our reactions to what others say and do.  Try to be positive, even when things have gone a bit south.  Negativity breeds toxicity and that's what we are trying to eliminate.  Start with yourself,  take a look at what you have done or said and ask  “What can I be proud of in all this ?”  We also have to make it important to recognize peoples’ efforts when things go right.  We are very willing to take for granted when things go right and complain when things get derailed.

    So that it for my 2 cents about appreciation.  I have a couple or three kudos to throw out there.  When I first started here at VHL and was learning how to get around and develop a player both Spartan and Mexican Cow offered invaluable advice (some of which I actually acted upon!).  As well, my player at the time, Isau DaMoose, was fortunate to spend his entire VHL career in Riga.  Hedgehog was very helpful and I still count him as a friend today, even though we do not communicate nearly as much.  Then there are all of those folks who treat others with concern and respect.  Good on all of you !!

    1 - Up until today's sim, we were riding a 4 game losing streak. What would you do to address our inconsistency?

    The change in lineup should have a positive effect, but, really we have to focus on defense and take advantage of the offensive chances when they come.

    2 - I'm working from home this morning, and then likely having a tooth pulled at the dentist this afternoon. If you have a job, do you like it, or would you rather have a tooth pulled?

    Ahh, is there a third choice?

    3 - Geneva has the league's top 3 scorers, but we have 3 different players who have each had a hatty this year. Would you rather be on a team with a dominant top line, or a team with scoring depth throughout the lineup?

    In my opinion, it is depth that will win you more games in the long run.

    4 - How's the weather where you are? It seems like Spring has finally sprung in my neck of the woods.

    Although it is only mid-May, we have had a 30 degree C heat wave.  Things started getting back to normal today.

    5 - Ed Nu has back to back shutouts, but Vasteras's Red Gaming has 6 on the season. How many shutouts do you think both goalies end the season with?

    Nu = 4
    Gaming = 7

    6 - Do you like smoothies? If so, what's your go-to mix? If not, tell me your favorite kind of ice cream.

    I am not fond of smoothies, but some rum/raisin ice cream always goes well.

    Eynhallow got a reaction from KaleebtheMighty in Noodles Still Looking For Pasta
    So, another week has gone by and Noodles has somewhat picked up his pace in terms of point production.  GM @KaleebtheMighty Has readjusted his line up and it appears that Noodles is now getting third line minutes.  Just this increase in ice time should have positive results for Noodles personal stats.  Currently he has 6 points in 52 games, 3 goals and 3 assists.  An interesting side bar to this is that 2 of Noodles' goals were game winning goals.  So Noodles looks like he picks it up a bit when the game is on the line.  As far as the Instanbul Red Wolves are concerned, they teetering on the brink of making the playoffs.  Currently they are in fifth place, 3 points behind the Geneva Rush.  It looks like it will require a concentrated effort on behalf of each and every Red Wolf in order to lock down a playoff spot.  As we all know, the plaoffs are like another mini-season where anything can happen.  Go Wolves !!!
