80. I'd give myself an 8/10 for my regular season 81. Well, I thought we would do well, but it turns out we didn't. 83. I think Elias Lampi had an amazing season. 84. Less trading away of committed players. 85. I would be on Big Brother and just sit in the corner meditating. 86. I'm good with most things but chips are my weakness.

Yaroslav Bogatyrev arrived back in Russia on Tuesday following the conclusion of the Seattle Bears’ season. The Bears were dumped out of the playoffs in six games in a surprise victory for the New York Americans. The Bears had the best regular season record in the North American Conference, but shoddy defensive play and poor goaltending saw the Americans get the better of the Pacific Northwest side. Bogatyrev, who had six points in six games for the Bears, is now reportedly on the trade block. He has returned to Russia to rest and recuperate before beginning a vigorous pre-season training regimen, as he has done in every offseason to date. There are reports that Bogatyrev could be traded by the VHL Entry Draft, although it remains to be seen if the Bears will be able to pull off the deal, given the fact that Bogatyrev has a no-trade clause for S90. For now, it’s another period of reflection – assessing where it once again went wrong for Bogatyrev and the Bears. Despite having one of the strongest rosters in the league, the Bears have struck out in three straight postseasons. Veterans like Hulk Hogan 2 and Tavish Degroot are leaving the team, meaning that management will have a lot of work to do to make the Bears a contender next season.

MOSCOW, August 3, 2023 (Shaiba.ru) – Another season is in the books for Yaroslav Bogatyrev, but after four unsuccessful seasons with the Seattle Bears, it looks like the Russian forward could be on the move for the first time in his career. Unconfirmed reports out of Seattle suggest that the big-bodied forward has been put on the trade block after he once again flattered to deceive in the postseason. Bogatyrev managed just six points in six games as the Bears were unceremoniously dumped out of the playoffs by the New York Americans, who were then subsequently swept out of the postseason by the Vancouver Wolves. The Bears made a bold move by initially selecting Bogatyrev with the second overall pick in the S86 VHL Entry Draft. Many thought that the Bears were taking a risk by selecting Bogatyrev over the likes of Rick Grimes and Fuukka Rask, and it’s fair to say that the Nizhnii Tagil native has yet to live up to the hype. The so-called “Big Boga” has managed to score just 234 points in 288 regular season games for the Bears, adding a further 29 in 44 playoff games. Many fans grew highly frustrated with Bogatyrev during the S88 run to the Continental Cup Finals, in which the Bears lost in seven games to the London United. Bogatyrev scored just nine points throughout the entire run. As a result, there are rumblings that the Bears organization is about to call an end to their time with Bogatyrev. According to unconfirmed reports, as many as half a dozen teams have expressed interest in the Russian forward who is set to be entering his prime. Following this news, Shaiba.ru reached out to Bogatyrev, who is currently back in his hometown following the conclusion of the Bears’ season. “It’s funny how these things come out in the press. It seems like you guys have more of an idea about it than I do. I’m trying to let everything go through my agent. They’ve always had my back and they will provide me with the advice I need to make the right decision. It’s never nice knowing that your team might be looking to ship you out. I feel that I’ve put a lot into my four seasons with the Bears. I’ve given this team my everything, consistently showing up week after week and putting the work in that will help me develop as a player. To then be in a position where, after signing a contract, the team is looking to shop me – it’s not the best position to be in,” Bogatyrev said. Similar comments were made by Bogatyrev’s agent, Dmitri Zherdev, who raised the issue of Bogatyrev’s no-trade clause which is set to kick in for S90. “My client has always been committed to the Seattle Bears throughout his career to date. We have had contact with the Bears organization over a potential trade, but there is nothing so far to report. We would like to stress that my client has a contract through S90 with the Seattle Bears that includes a no-trade clause. We reserve the right to impose this no-trade clause as we see fit,” Zherdev remarked.

For the fourth season in a row, Yaroslav Bogatyrev is gearing himself up for another push for the Continental Cup. The big-bodied Russian forward, drafted second overall in the S86 VHL Entry Draft, can no longer lean on his youth status. This is the time for Bogatyrev to establish himself as a leading player in the VHL following a stellar point-per-game season. The Bears have been close but not close enough over the past two seasons. In S87, they fell at the Conference Final stage to the Vancouver Wolves. One season later, they had a 3-1 lead over the London United in the Continental Cup Final only to throw away the series with three straight losses. “The last two seasons have stung. You try and take the positives from it, but at the end of the day, losing in the playoffs sucks. Especially when you look at how we played last season. The cup really did have our name on it, but we just let things slip. I don’t know if we thought that we had already got across the line, but it’s a major lesson that everyone on the team has learned. We can’t let up, not even for a minute, until we raise the trophy,” Yaroslav Bogatyrev told Shaiba.ru on Sunday. The Seattle Bears are far less top-heavy than other VHL teams. The Washington-state side have two solid lines that they can roll out, meaning that minutes are spread across the team. Despite some personnel changes, Bogatyrev went on to register career highs in goals, points, shots, and hits, and he registered a team-high nine game-winning goals. In total, Bogatyrev had 34 goals, 48 assists for 82 points, and 236 hits. He also finished with a +22 rating. “All in all I think I’ve taken a step forward this year. I think I’ve become a more complete player. I’d still like to score more, and one day take a run for the scoring title, but I don’t forget that I have a responsibility to be a solid player who can compete across all 200 feet of the ice. I want to be on the team’s top powerplay and top penalty kill. In fact, I think I now get more fun from stopping the opposition’s top line, than being the player who goes out and gets the goal. Sure, goals are nice, celebrating them is nice, but I think I can really take pride in how I’ve approached this past season and where my game has developed,” Bogatyrev said. “I realize that it’s now my time to become a leader on this team. We have two guys, Tav and Hulk, who are going to be leaving the team after this season. Sure, we can bring in other guys, but now it’s time for Randy and myself to take over the reigns and become the players who the coach, management rely on. We want to set the tone, because although Seattle in the past has been successful, it’s been too long since the team won the cup,” he added.

One week ago, the VHL’s social media channels went into overdrive following news that Yaroslav Bogatyrev, star forward of the Seattle Bears, had left practice nursing an upper-body injury. His representatives later confirmed that the Nizhnii Tagil native was sent to hospital for preliminary checks, and left in a sling. After missing practice, Bogatyrev returned to the ice on Sunday as the Bears get prepared for their Conference Semi-Final clash as the VHL postseason gets underway. “I took a hard fall during a battle in the corner. Sure I was a little banged up, but the medical team did a great job and I’m already feeling really good out there. I have no concerns over this injury, and I feel like I’m 100% ready to go for the playoffs. I’m looking forward to finally getting started, as this wait always sucks,” Bogatyrev said. The Russian forward was referring to the wait that the top seeds have while the VHL play-ins take place. By virtue of finishing top of the North American Conference, the Bears will face the winner of the New York Americans and the Los Angeles Stars. The New York side currently has a stranglehold of the series, after winning the first two games.

The rumour mill was turned up to full volume on Sunday after Seattle Bears forward Yaroslav Bogatyrev left training with what appeared to be an upper-body injury. The Russian forward, who is one of the leaders on the Bears, left training 20 minutes in after clashing with a team mate in the corner. Observers said that they saw Bogatyrev leaving the ice under his own speed while favoring his right shoulder. “We can confirm that Yaroslav Bogatyrev left training on Sunday with an injury. He is currently being examined by our training staff, and we will make a report at a time convenient to us to update on his status. He visited hospital but was discharged on the same day,” a representative for the Seattle Bears said. Bogatyrev, who often refrains from commenting to the media outside of the practice rink, posted an Instagram story on Monday that gave no indication as to us current status. The Russian forward, born in Nizhnii Tagil, entered last season following a wrist injury picked up during preseason. He had surgery on his wrist, but there has seemingly been no subsequent flare-up, given that he has not missed a game all season.

The playoffs are on the horizon. There are only 10 games to go until the end of the VHL regular season, and to a large extent, things have been good for the Seattle Bears. The Pacific Northwest side currently sit atop of the North American Conference with a 40-20-2 record. They have a four-point lead over the Vancouver Wolves in second place and the Calgary Wranglers in third. For the second season in a row, the Bears go into the playoffs the favourites to come out of the North American Conference. The Bears have been doing things by committee. They may not have a killer partnership, such as Moscow Menace have with Ronan Lavelle and Tomas Sogaard, but they in fact have two strong lines. If Hulk Hogan 2 and Tavish DeGroot aren’t going to solve things on one night, you can expect that the youth, such as Randy Bobandy and Yaroslav Bogatyrev, will be able to get the Bears over the line. There are times, however, when the Bears have been screaming out for a gamebreaker who would be able to take a game by the scruff of the neck and get the victory for the Bears. Since joining the league more than three seasons ago, Bogatyrev hasn’t really been that sort of player for the Bears. He’s been a complimentary piece. He’s been able to score consistently, particularly over the past two seasons, but is he a leader? No. Is he driving play? Somewhat, but not to the extent that other players in the VHL are. This has been clear over the past 10 games, in which Bogatyrev has scored less than a point per game. The Bears dropped two out of their three recent games against HC Davos Dynamo, who look to have first place in the European Conference wrapped up, and could very likely be the finals opponent for the Bears. As a result, many pundits are tipping the Dynamo to be the favourites to lift the Continental Cup. “Losing to Davos was a big wake up call for us,” Bogatyrev told the press after Saturday night’s game against the Swiss side. “I think we realized tonight that we have a lot of work to do to be the team that we think we are. At times we’ve had confidence in the room high, but then we’ve turned around and laid an egg like that. Davos are a really good side. They’re tough, they come at you hard, and they roll through the lines. They have that physical edge and they made us uncomfortable out there, and then also the they have really good goaltending. They’re going to be a really strong problem for any team in the playoffs, and we know that we have to play to their level because we also want to be challenging for the title. After losing in the final the way we did last season, we simply have to be better. I have to be better, that’s a major part of it as well,” Bogatyrev remarked.

Fans of the Seattle Bears could breathe a little easier last week after the club announced that it had put pen to paper with star forward Yaroslav Bogatyrev on a one-season contract extension that will see the Nizhnii Tagil native remain with the club through S90. Ahead of last week’s trade deadline, rumours started to circulate on social media that Bogatyrev would look to leave the team as a free agent eyeing a move back to Europe. However, positive conversations were had between the Bears and Bogatyrev’s representatives, resulting in the latter agreeing to prolong his stay with the team that drafted him. Bogatyrev has been one of the most impressive performers for the Seattle Bears this season. He is currently the team’s second-top scorer, having 58 points through 48 games. Bogatyrev is well on track to register career highs in points, hits, and game-winning goals this season. “I’m delighted to sign a new contract with the Seattle Bears,” Bogatyrev wrote on Instagram on Sunday. “It’s been a great experience playing with the team so far, and I’m optimistic that the team will continue to be a contender this season and next. I’m still enjoying it here, and let’s go win the cup,” he added.

Another theme week, and another theme that I’ve never once considered. I’m not to be a leader or an organizer. That’s why I’d never consider GMing a VHL team, let alone getting to the stage where I could be a commissioner. That being said, given that it is theme week, it’s time to go and rack my brain and come up with something that will pass to get me an extra six TPE (that’s going to get me my 1 DF upload). Abolish the VHLE I guess I’m writing this just because I’ve seen everyone else write it. That’s the only decent input I could have on this topic. Ban Spartan Isn’t it the case that we should only be signing GMs who we think have a chance of making their team competitive? And what point is there in having a GM who is allergic to winning championships. It makes no-one want to play on Moscow, given that they know that if they sign with Moscow, they are effectively retiring from winning championships. This is something that the league should consider now, tbh. Delete STHS There’s literally no alternative, but something must be done about STHS. It’s just pure pain. I think we should create all the teams in NHL 04 and run live video sims. That won’t take a lot of time at all. Remove the ridiculous depreciation for elite players Is it really going to be the case that I’m going to lose around 40% of my earned TPE to depreciation? That’s the case if I make it to 2,000 TPE but my player will peak at around 1,250. All in all, that makes it a significant challenge. Let’s be fair, I’ve spent four seasons as Boga now being a complete mid player, despite being a super max earner. Essentially by the time that I’m actually going to be any good, I’m going to be retiring. What is the point, essentially, of earning. I should just be a clicker Give more funding to VSN Make VSN job pay better so that we have more good written content being published consistently. At the stage we have a season preview and a mock draft. What else is being done? I guess the TPE pay isn’t worth it. Give people bonus TPE for producing better, more interesting content? My terrible vhl.coms don’t compare. Raise the salary cap Let me get paid more so that I can buy more than 2 4x5 TPE’s during the course of my career. I want to be getting paid $10 million per season so that I can afford all of the Jaromir Jagrs and Old But Not Forgotten’s that I want. It will be a travesty if Spartan gets the overall TPE record, and only Boga has the power to stop Spartan. Hlozek’s terrible performances for the Moscow Menace in the playoffs stopped Spartan from winning the Conti Cup as GM during my time there, and now I can also win this battle on another front. That’s about it.

We’re getting ever closer to the midpoint of another VHL season. And here I am, Big Bojo, with another middling average player. There were signs of optimism at the start of the season, when Boga for one sim held a place in the top 10 scorers, but the last 5-6 games have been pure pain. It’s hard to know where to go from here. Sure, I’ve got another 200 TPE or so to get to get to the peak build that Shindigs (☹) helped me draw up, but the bulk of that TPE is going to go into DEF. Will jumping from DEF 90 to 94 really take Boga from mid to elite? It’s going to be interesting to see how that works, given that I’m planning on keeping my SC at 88. At the end of the day, I should be happy with 38 points through 34 games. On that pace, it’s another career season, but it will certainly mean that the Boga for Funk train comes derailing again. The Bears seem to be in a good place, although as with Boga, the last couple of sims have been surprising. I’m sure we’ll see more tinkering with the lines and strats, but all in all things are good.

The Seattle Bears could be about to enter a transition period. At the end of the current season, franchise center Hulk Hogan 2 is set to hang up his skates, bringing his storied career to a close. Tavish DeGroot, a prominent veteran presence on the team’s forward lines, has also his announced his retirement at the end of S89. Earlier this season, the Bears announced the re-signing of Randy Bobandy through S92, solidifying the young forward’s position at the heart of Seattle’s core for many years to come. Young defenceman Elias Lampi, who is enjoying a breakout season, is also signed through S90. But as S89 rolls on, and the Bears still sit on top of the North American Conference, there’s one question on everyone’s lips… What about Yaroslav Bogatyrev? The second overall pick in the S86 draft signed a standard three-year rookie contract with the Seattle Bears immediately after being drafted. He then put pen to paper on a one-year extension, taking him through the current season. There’s still been no confirmation on Bogatyrev signing a new contract, although sources close to the Seattle Bears organization have confirmed that a deal was presented to the Russian forward’s agent earlier this season. Unconfirmed reports suggest that only a one-year deal is on the table, upon request from Bogatyrev’s side. The trade deadline is just around the corner, and the Bears could be inclined to move their star forward if they are unable to get him to commit to a long-term deal. There would, of course, be the option of moving Bogatyrev upon the conclusion of the season, but the Bears would only expect to get pennies on the dollar for trading his rights. Bogatyrev has often refused to comment on his contract status, and his agent could not be reached for comment. However, upon the Bears recent 2-0 loss to the Malmo Nighthawks, the Russian forward surprised many by discussing the matter during a post-game media scrum. “I don’t know how much longer I’ve got left here in Seattle. Do I feel like there is unfinished business, considering how last season ended – sure? Do I feel like Seattle is, at the moment, in a position to contend for a Continental Cup? I think so, although losses like tonight really make me feel that we’re still too naïve, and still don’t have what it takes to lift a championship. We’ve still got a lot of work to do,” Bogatyrev said. When pressed by a reporter as to where he could imagine himself playing if not in Seattle, Bogatyrev also provided some clues as to his potential plans. “I said it before I was drafted, and I will continue to say it: I loved playing in Europe with the Cologne Express several seasons back, and getting the chance to play in Europe, where my friends and family would be closer, is something that I’ve always dreamed about. I’m on the complete opposite side of the world to my home right now, it’s tough,” he said.

It’s taken a little over three seasons, but it looks like Yaroslav Bogatyrev is finally living up to the draft hype. The big-bodied Russian forward was taken second overall in the S86 VHL Entry Draft, behind The Frenchman who went to Riga. At the time, many thought that the Seattle management had reached to select the Nizhnii Tagil native, and his first two seasons in the show were perpetuated by struggle and frustration. Last season, Bogatyrev shone in a second-line role, registering 77 points in 72 regular season games before a disappointing playoff run saw the 6’6’’ winger muster a paltry 9 points in 19 games. This time around, Bogatyrev appears to be a man on a mission. He has 30 points through his first 22 games, good for 10th in the league. Now on the team’s first line, Bogatyrev appears to be finding consistent form alongside the Bears’ top line center, Hulk Hogan 2. Alongside his exploits on the scoresheet, Bogatyrev is continuing to play a heavier, physical game with 73 hits through 22 games. All in all, while Bogatyrev may not challenge the likes of Daniel Janser and Ronan Lavelle for the scoring title, it could be a sign that he is ready to become one of the true leaders in the VHL.

SEATTLE, June 27, 2023 (Shaiba.ru) – There’s always a point in a season when a team hits a bump in the road. The Seattle Bears jumped out of the gates to start S89, racking up a 16-3 record in their first 19 games. Mood in the camp was high as Elias Lampi, Yaroslav Bogatyrev and Randy Bobandy all began what many believe will be career years. The Bears had been getting great goaltending by new acquisition Cole Pearce throughout the first quarter of the season, with the Bears conceding just 3 goals in their 3 games running up to the latest sim. However, this could all be about to change after the Bears had a disappointing sim that saw them drop a 5-4 contest against the New York Americans, a 6-3 loss against the Prague Phantoms, and a 6-5 overtime loss against the Chicago Phoenix, which resulted in the latter leapfrogging the Bears in the table. After such a strong start, particularly on the defensive side of the puck, the latest losses got a number of people concerned on Bears social media channels. “I think we have to not take these losses too seriously, but it’s certainly time for us to reflect on how we’ve played so far this season to date and make any changes that need to be made. Everything comes easy when you’re playing well, but our performance clearly dropped over the past few days. We need to turn this around and get back to winning ways to ensure that losing does not become a habit,” Bears forward Yaroslav Bogatyrev said following the 6-5 loss to the Phoenix. After making the Continental Cup Finals last season, many predicted the Bears to be up their challenging for honours once again this time around. While the Seattle side may have come into the season with something to prove, could it be the case that the team started the season playing on adrenaline, and now their form is turning around? “I don’t think that’s the case. We know exactly what we need to do to win games in the VHL. Sure, we’ve still got to work out how we will get around doing it in the playoffs, but for now, finishing a top of the North American Conference is what we did last season. Our team is getting better and better, as guys such as Randy and Elias take on bigger roles in the team. Every season we come in after the management makes changes, and we always seem ready to go. We’re not playing on adrenaline, we’re sticking to the Bears system that is making us an effective team and one that is up there with the best in the league,” Bogatyrev remarked. The Bears have the opportunity to turn their skid around with another game against the Chicago Phoenix on Tuesday evening. They follow that up with three games in a row against European Conference does: the Helsinki Titans, Riga Reign, and Moscow Menace.
