A modest crowd turned up at Ekaterinburg’s Koltsevo airport to welcome back Yaroslav Bogatyrev, one of the Urals proudest sons, to his homeland after the Seattle Bears exist at the Conference Final stage against the Calgary Wranglers. Bogatyrev typically spends his offseason in the Urals under the tutelage of his father and famed hockey coach, Yurii Bogatyrev. After a few days off, Yaroslav is expected to begin a fierce training program consisting of both on-ice and dryland drills. Yurii Bogatyrev is known to be fond of taking his charges outdoors and conducting as much training as possible in the region’s forest and lakelands. “I’m thankful for everyone who came to the airport to welcome me back to Russia. It’s tough being away from home for so long, but it’s always good to come back and see friends and family. I always value my father’s training. It’s better than anything else in the world. No-one understands me better, no-one understands how to motivate me better. It’s a shame that for visa purposes he can’t come over to the United States more, but that’s the reality we live in. We adapt, we cope, and we make do,” Yaroslav Bogatyrev told reporters.

MOSCOW, March 20, 2023 (Shaiba.ru) – The offseason is here. The playoffs went by as a flash as the Calgary Wranglers outclassed HC Davos Dynamo in the Continental Cup Finals to win their first title in an extremely long time. En route to the final, the Wranglers squeezed past the Seattle Bears in six games, in what ended up being a closely fought series, save for the 5-0 Game 6 victory for the Alberta side. So where do the Bears stand after their first deep playoff run for multiple seasons? It appears that there’s a significant wave of optimism currently running through the state of Washington as we head into S88. The team managed to secure the services of stand-out deadline additions Tavish DeGroot and Vasile Lamb for another season. The Bears were also buoyed by the success of Randy Bobandy in his rookie season, with the young center set to develop further with his first VHL offseason. But what about the Bears second overall selection in the S86 draft, Yaroslav Bogatyrev. The big-bodied Russian forward flattered to deceive during his rookie and sophomore seasons. With 75 points through 144 career games to date, many have already written off the Nizhnii Tagil native as one of the biggest busts of recent VHL history. However, in the playoffs, perhaps we got the first glimpse of what Yaroslav Bogatyrev can bring in the VHL. After registering just two points in the five-game play-in series against the Chicago Phoenix, Bogatyrev exploded in the Conference Semi-Finals against the first-seed Vancouver Wolves, racking up nine points in the five-game series. “It was great to finally make such a big contribution. I think it’s what I’ve been waiting for over the past two seasons. Things finally went my way, I got the puck luck that I’ve been needing, and it was fantastic to help the team get past the Wolves and into the Conference Finals. Of course, things didn’t go our way against the Wranglers, but I think we’ve set the scene for what could be an even better season next time round,” Yaroslav Bogatyrev said via Zoom call with Shaiba.ru on Saturday. The Nizhnii Tagil native said that he was looking forward to using his personal success in the playoffs as a springboard for what could be a break out season next time round. “I’ve had two seasons now to get used to the VHL. I know what to expect, I know what the hockey is like. I think I am already able to make a great contribution without the puck, but now I must become a leader of this team offensively. They’re relying on me to take the next step, and it’s time that I repay their trust in me,” Bogatyrev remarked. Bogatyrev is set to return to Russia for a rather shorter offseason than last time round. Once again, he will undergo a solid training regimen with his father, Yurii Bogatyrev, who used to train Yaroslav during his junior career. Seattle are expecting Bogatyrev to return to the United States within a month’s time.

1. The Sens are gonna make the playoffs and then win the cup 2. I need a new compression turtleneck 3. My wedding ring. Questions 1. Are the Seattle Bears gonna pull off the mighty comeback over the mid Wranglers? 2. Who is your shout for VHL Playoff MVP? 3. If you could live in one historical period, what would it be?

The Seattle Bears dropped Game 5 of their Conference Final series with the Calgary Wranglers on Sunday night. The powerplay was the key for the Alberta side in this contest, as they scored twice on five powerplay attempts. On the other side, the Bears only got one opportunity to go on the man advantage, a fact that drew ire from the Bears management, players, and fans as the game got away from Seattle. “I think it’s a joke that playoff games, and potentially series, are being decided by the referees. This is playoff hockey, they aren’t meant to be having any influence on the game. When you see that all of the penalties are little trips or holds, this is the sort of stuff that shouldn’t be happening. I don’t want to say that we lost because of them, but their actions certainly made winning more difficult for us,” Yaroslav Bogatyrev said in the mixed zone immediately after Sunday’s game. The Seattle Bears management declined to make any additional comment over the standard of the refeering in Game 5 of the Conference Finals. We also reached out to the VHL to see if they were planning to issue any supplementary discipline to Bogatyrev and the Bears for the former’s outburst.

MOSCOW, March 13, 2023 (Shaiba.ru) – The Seattle Bears are on the brink of elimination. The fairytale run, which saw the Washington side upset both the Chicago Phoenix and Vancouver Wolves in the first two rounds of the playoffs, could be coming to a close after the Bears dropped Game 5 of their Conference Final series with the Calgary Wranglers in a high-scoring affair. The Bears went into Game 5 full of confidence after a hard-fought 4-2 victory in Game 4. However, any hopes of recording a second win in a row were dashed as the US-based side took five penalties. This ill-disciple cost them dearly, as the Wranglers’ dangerous powerplay scored twice to give the Alberta side the victory. The pain of losing was felt all the more in the Bears locker room given the fact that Seattle were 3-0 up after just 14 minutes. “To get such a good start and to then throw it away is super disappointing. We came out great in the first period and worked so hard to get the lead. We’re going to have to go back to the drawing board for Game 6. The good thing is that it’ll be at home rink. We’ll have the full support of our fans and I’m sure that they can help us to victory. It’s been a great run so far, but we’re not happy. We don’t want to go out at this stage, when we know that we have a right to be here, that we deserve to be here,” Seattle Bears forward Yaroslav Bogatyrev said following Sunday night’s game. The current playoffs have been something of a breakout for Bogatyrev, who played the best hockey of his career in the five-game Conference Semi-Final series against the Vancouver Wolves. The Nizhnii Tagil native currently has 13 points in 15 postseason games, including four goals – one of them a gamewinner. “It’s been nice to finally make a contribution. It’s no secret that it’s been a super tough two seasons for me. I’ve been trying everything to get things better, and to see my efforts finally coming to fruition is very rewarding. The most important thing, however, is that the team is in a position to be contending. I think the way that we’ve come together, the team work that we’ve shown through this run so far, has been fantastic. Even if this is not our year, I think we’re laying the foundation for something great going ahead,” Bogatyrev said. The Bears and the Wranglers face off on Monday in what could be the final game of the Seattle team’s season. Should the Bears win, they go into the Continental Cup final to face the winner of the HC Davos Dynamo and Malmo Nighthawks series. Should they lose, attention will turn to the offseason. During the break, many are expecting the Bears and Bogatyrev to sit down and potentially discuss an extension to his ELC that expires at the end of S88. For now, Bogatyrev declined to answer any questions related to his immediate and long-term future.

Many expected that the result of the series between the Vancouver Wolves and the Seattle Bears would be a foregone conclusion. The Bears, who scrapped their way into the playoffs were unlikely to offer a fight to the runaway conference leaders, the Vancouver Wolves. Well, British Columbia was in for a shock after the first two games of the Conference Semi-Finals. The Bears, came into Vancouver and left with a 2-0 series lead as the match-up heads back to the United States. Who is leading the charge for the Seattle Bears? None other than star goaltender Dusty Wilson, whose exploits were vital for the Seattle side to get through their Wild Card contest with the Chicago Phoenix. In Game 2, a double overtime victory for the Bears, Wilson stopped a ridiculous 74 of the 77 shots he faced, including 30 in the extra frames. Another factor has been Yaroslav Bogatyrev. The young Russian forward only had one point in the five Wild Card games against the Chicago Phoenix. However, the Big Boga has three points through two games against the Wolves, including two assists in the 4-3 double overtime victory in Game 2. The Wolves are clearly going to regroup and try something different in Games 3 and 4, but for now, the Bears look to be back where they belong.

The Seattle Bears have made the VHL Playoffs. For many, this was to be expected, although for many on the Bears, the past two seasons have characterized by struggles. After a late-season surge that followed the tread deadline acquisitions of Vasile Lamb and Tavish DeGroot, the Bears secured fifth spot in the North American Conference, setting up a Wild Card match-up with the Chicago Phoenix. The series was a back and forth affair, unlike the European Wild Card matchup that saw the Riga Reign sweep the Warsaw Predators. Both teams traded games at home to leave the series tied 2-2 heading into the all-important decider, that was held in Chicago. In Game 4, the Phoenix dominated the Bears 5-0, leaving many pundits expecting the Illinois side to secure a convincing victory and march their way to a match up with the Vancouver Wolves. However, Seattle goaltender Dusty Wilson had something to say about that. The Seattle shot stopper made a total of 26 saves in regulation to keep his shutout intact. It just so happened that Cole Pearce in the Chicago net did exactly the same, sending the game into overtime with the score at 0-0. The Bears dominated in the extra frame, outshooting the Phoenix by a tally of 15-6, and with two minutes left to play in the first overtime, rookie forward Randy Bobandy fired home to win the game, and the series, for the Seattle Bears. With the win, the Bears go one step further than they did last season, when they were swept out of the Wild Card round by the eventual Continental Cup winners, the Vancouver Wolves. “It’s a fantastic experience to win this series and to make it into the playoffs. For us, it’s been a grind all season, but now we’re starting to see the rewards for our hard work. Management took a risk and gave us the help we needed with the new guys strengthening the roster, and I think we’re now playing the best hockey that I’ve seen us play since I joined the team for S86,” Russian forward Yaroslav Bogatyrev said. Despite the optimism, the next stage will spring many challenges for the Seattle Bears. They are set to take on the Vancouver Wolves, the dominant team in the North American Conference in the regular season. However, Bogatyrev said that the Bears were out for revenge after the beating put on them this time last season. “We know that Seattle are a great hockey team, but we have a point to prove. No-one was happy with how last season ended, and now it’s time for us to regain our pride. At the end of the day, I think that if we give 100%, and if every player is committed, we can match up against Seattle well. Of course, if Dusty continues to play as he’s been doing, we have a chance in every game. The opportunity is there for us to really go on a big playoff run this season, and we simply have to take it, no questions,” Bogatyrev added.

48. Europe is incredibly tight. At this exact moment, which teams make the playoffs? I think that Prague, London, and Helsinki will be the ones to miss out. 49. NYA, CHI and SEA are all close. Of these 3 teams, which of them will make playoffs? 1-3? Well two out of three are going to make the wild card. I think it looks like it's gonna be SEA and CHI 50. Vasile Lamb @dlamb was spotted hanging out with some of the Bears before sim #1 with the team. Who was he with? What were they doing? He was with Tavish DeGroot and they were questioning who they had pissed off to be traded. 51. Tavish DeGroot @rory was welcomed back by the locker room and practice. Local prankster @Hogan was up to his old tricks again and pulled a prank on him. What did he do? Hogan's pranks are always terrible. It was an embarrassing sight. 52. @dustywilson22 recently had a huge game against Warsaw. 3-0 SO and 37 SAVES! What did the team do after the game with Dusty to celebrate the big game and DUB?! We got the brooms out because it was dusty up in here. 53. Randy Bobandy @AJW, @DoktorFunk Chip Stone and Elias Lampi @Pifferfish have started a Seattle Bears band. Do they have a name picked yet? What genre of music are they? They're some EDM rubbish.

A vocal minority of VHL fans have called on the league’s management to enforce a ban on all Russian players in light of recent political events. A movement spread across Twitter and other social networks under the hashtag #BanTheR*ssians due to the current geopolitical scenario. There are a large number of Russian players in the VHL, many of whom have not set foot in their home country for years on end. The VHL’s strict social media policy forbids any of the Russian players, likewise players of any nationality, from making any political statement or engaging with any political movement. Nevertheless, the heated online discourse prompted one Russian player, Yaroslav Bogatyrev, to comment on the recent movement. “These fans are entitled to their own opinion. However, I do not choose where I was born, what nationality I have. I’m here to play hockey, I’m here to bring joy to the fans who come and watch us play. I don’t speak on anything other than that,” Bogatyrev wrote in an Instagram story on Sunday. According to social media posts accessed by editorial staff, Bogatyrev’s comments fell on deaf ears, as several vocal Twitter users began lashing into the Nizhnii Tagil native. We’ll have more on this story as it develops.

SEATTLE, February 27, 2023 (Shaiba.ru) – It felt like the VHL regular season began just last week. As S87 begins to come to its conclusion, many teams are still in the midst of fierce fighting for postseason places. In the North American Conference, the Chicago Phoenix, Seattle Bears, and New York Americans are all battling for two wild card places. Let’s not even get into the mess that is the European Conference, where the parity in the league this past season has been remarkable. So, let’s go back to the North American Conference. One major mover over the past week has been the Seattle Bears. The side from Washington, which has been plagued by offensive struggles over the past two seasons, decided to take matters into their own hands at the trade deadline by acquiring not one, but two stars of the VHL. Firstly, Tavish DeGroot was acquired from the Riga Reign, with the team making the remarkable decision to move DeGroot from defense to wing. Several days later, perennial Scott Boulet candidate Vasile Lamb was snatched from the DC Dragons for futures. The impact these two trades have had on the Seattle Bears’ fortunes cannot be overstated. After spluttering through the season, and even being in sixth place on the eve of the trade deadline, the Bears have sprung into life. Their recent 6-3-1 run over the last 10 games has seen them surge past the New York Americans, all but securing a place in the wild card playoff with just 7 games left to play in the regular season. The added depth to the forward lines has also helped young forward Yaroslav Bogatyrev find his form. After a season and a half of struggles, Bogatyrev is starting to look more and more like the player the Bears fans thought they were getting when management selected the big bodied Russian forward with the second overall pick in the S86 VHL Entry Draft. Through 65 games, Bogatyrev has already exceeded his goals, assists, and points totals from his rookie season. He now sits at 19+23 for 42 points. While he may be struggling compared to the likes of first overall pick from the same draft, The Frenchman, but Bogatyrev’s progression should bring some happiness to Bears fans and management alike. “It’s good that I’m finally seeing my contribution on the scoresheet. It’s really been a tough go of it, but I’m starting to see the results of my efforts, and helping the team get wins is what I’m paid to do,” Bogatyrev told Shaiba.ru this past weekend. “The struggles of my first two seasons in Seattle left me questioning whether the issue was my own play, or how I fit into the team’s structure. At times it felt that the team was doing everything to help me, but I wasn’t able to do anything from them. In those moments, you start thinking whether or not to ask for a trade, and especially as I know that my contract is up at the end of next season, whether I want to stay here or not. The signs are looking positive for now,” Bogatyrev remarked.

Seattle Bears forward Yaroslav Bogatyrev has said that he is in good health and good spirits as the Washington-state side close out their regular season in a strong way. The Bears, who made a splash at the trade deadline by acquiring Tavish Degroot and Vasile Lamb, have been one of the form teams in the VHL over the past week. The Bears are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games, and the addition of two star players has done wonders for their ability to create offense. “I think the fans, and even the players knew that something needed to change if we wanted to be in a position to challenge for a playoff run. At some points, it looks like we might even finish in sixth in the conference and miss out even on the wild card place. So to make these trades at the deadline was super important,” Yaroslav Bogatyrev said on Sunday. The Russian-born forward, who has posted new career highs in goals and points in his sophomore season, said that he was now at full strength after battling injuries all season. “I picked up several small, but nagging injuries at the start of the season. I’ve been playing with pain for most of the season. But the medical staff have done great, and I’m feeling the best I’ve felt for ages,” he said.

42. What are your thoughts on Seattle trading Florida Man @zepheter to HC Davos for essentially Tavish DeGroot @rory in a 3-way deal with Riga? Great trade for us. Bravo 43. What are your thoughts on getting Vasile Lamb @dlamb in a trade from DCD? Absolute steal. Lamb is a GOAT 44. Do you feel more confident in the team now than you did before these two trades? Why? The results are already showing that the trade paid off. it's awesome 45. What is your overall grading/thoughts on the Bears deadline moves? Can't give them anything less than an A- 46. How do you think the Bears perform in the final stretch? I think that we're hitting top form now. It's gonna be fun to see if we can secure the wild card spot. 47. Of the top two teams in the VHL, who finishes best? VAN? MOS? Neither? I think Helsinki are gonna finish strongest.

It’s difficult to get a sense of what a true rivalry is in the VHL. In the meta era, we had Vancouver vs everyone. Then, as I played on Moscow with Jan Hlozek, there was very clearly a rivalry with the Warsaw Predators, as we were the two teams that battled it out in the European Conference finals. But then again, aren’t rivalries made in part when we get a sense of what the fan atmosphere is? A rivalry isn’t just what happens on the ice, but also off it. As a result, feeling and experiencing a rivalry is incredibly difficult in the VHL. However, one place where rivalries exist is on Discord, between individual members. Throughout Hlozek’s career, I had a pretty funny media spot rivalry with Druss Deathwalker, which helped churn out some TPE. Since then, and especially with the end of Hlozek’s career a new rivalry has emerged. Along came Yaroslav Bogatyrev, and the logical rivalry could, in theory, be with The Frenchman. It turns out, however, that @OrbitingDeath is such a nice dude that it would be completely remiss to start a rivalry and start slinging dirt there. In short, OD is not a hater. That leads me to discuss the biggest hater man that currently exists in the VHL. That person is @Spartan . The man who moved mountains to trade for Hlozek when his contract was expiring with the Los Angeles Stars. Hlozek would go on to play two fantastic seasons for the Moscow Menace, and Spartan ever gave Hlozek the A in his final season. In short, Spartan simped for Bojo to get what he wanted; a fantastic defenceman to go on his second pairing. With Hlozek’s career now in the books, and Yaroslav Bogatyrev doing bits in Seattle, Spartan flipped the script 180 and turned on Bojo. Now, any comment in my direction is filled with such hate that I’ve had to create the “hater blocker” to let Spartan know that he’s barking up the wrong tree. Spartan accuses me of going inactive with Hlozek, of being a draft bust, of Boga being absolutely useless. Spartan actively takes pleasure in my downfall, and the current predicament that I find myself in with Boga. These are the actions of a pure hater man, especially given how he was Simptan before that. Let it be known that Spartan is still 0-5 in finals AND STILL HAS NO CUP. So how can I bring about these thoughts to a rambling conclusion. I think rivalries are good for the VHL. They help the writers throw together words for their media spots. They bring something a little different to the league, although their actual impact is somewhat overstated, and we never get to feel the true force of the rivalry (I mean, my only option to get back at the hater man Spartan would be to kick his ass, but that’s not possible a) because I’m not a fighter, I’m a lover, and b) I live thousands of miles away). Rise above the hate. Support each other, and don’t let the hatermen win.

1. I have zero thoughts on the Super Bowl, seeing as I don't watch football 2. It's going to be a Vancouver-Moscow final, and the Wolves are looking good. 3. Pasta, without doubt. 1. Do you follow the English Premier League? If so, who you got winning it? 2. To what extent is Valentine's Day a product of the global capitalist system? 3. If you could play for one VHL franchise that you haven't to date, which would it be?
