OTTAWA LYNX PRESS CONFERENCE Week Ending July 11, 2021 3 for 1 TPE, 6 for 2 TPE *You don’t have to answer all 8 1. Who do you want to win the Continental Cup: Seattle Bears or Warsaw Predators (there is only one correct answer)? Except for MattyIce I guess. 2. What about the Founder’s Cup (again, only one correct answer)? Yukon or Minnesota? 3. What’s your go-to celebration after scoring? 4. What cuisine is your favorite? 5. Can Tampa win it in front of their home crowd? Or does Montreal make this series 3-2? 6. What has your player been doing to prepare for next season, whether that’s back here in the ‘M or in the VHL? 7. If you had to choose, would you rather win a Continental Cup early or late in your career? 8. What’s one part of your game you need to work on? @bRaidsz@stello2005@Lazarus@ajwllmsn@qripll@MattyIce@osens@Marz@benaky@Edustava@Ekky@PistolP@Xalen11@Donno100

Congrats to both of you!

Review: Good read. It’s cool how this was more creative than the typical article about the league. It’s interesting to read about what VHL players do in the offseason. Very descriptive article, lots of effort put in. 10/10

The Yukon Rush punched their ticket to the Season 78 Founder’s Cup Final yesterday with a 4-2 Game 6 win over the San Diego Marlins. The Rush previously defeated the Mexico City Kings in Round 1, 4-1. Right wing Tyler Reinhart had a hat trick in the Game 6 victory for the Rush. Reinhart leads Yukon in goals and points these playoffs, with 8 and 16. Gaspar Zakrevsky also scored; his third of the postseason. Papa Emeritus made 15 saves for the Rush, who could win their first Founder’s Cup since Season 59. They will play the Minnesota Storm in the final. Minnesota swept both the Saskatoon Wild in Round 1 and Houston Bulls in the semifinals. The Storm last won in Season 73. They are led this season by defenders Ron World Peace III and Zarek Kaczka, as well as by goaltender Dexter Vaughn. Their forward core includes the likes of Henri le Massif, Raihan Heavems, Gary Tarantino II, Miks Sunish and Jonathan Ori. Rush captain Nathan Powers had this to say about the final: “We know it’s going to be tough. Minnesota’s a very good team and there’s a reason they’re 8-0 in the playoffs. I know we’ve got it in us to win, it’s going to be a group effort for sure.” Game 1 is scheduled for today. Word Count: 221

Review: Nice graphic. I like “Thornton Leads The Way!” because it makes it look like the cover of an article. The overall style of the image is also very cool in my opinion. A suggestion I would have would be a logo swap but it’s not necessary since you can barely see the logo and the jerseys are the same color anyway. Good job, 9/10.

Congrats everyone!

Nathan Powers ~ Junior Review Nathan Powers was born in Mississauga, Ontario Canada to a middle class family. Growing up, Powers always enjoyed watching and playing hockey, cheering for his favorite VHL team, the Toronto Legion. He attended his first Legion game when he was just four, and would regularly go to Mississauga Hounds’ minor league games once they were founded. Powers learned to skate at a young age, and picked up the game fast. He played his first season when he was five years old. He even won a tournament as the team’s goaltender when he was 10, going 4-0 with a .920 save percentage and 2.32 GAA. At age 12, Powers joined the Junior Legion, where he would play two seasons. He played a total of 42 games, scoring 65 points total (14 goals, 51 assists) as a defenseman. He joined his high school’s varsity team when he was a freshman. He would go on to play three seasons with the school, tallying 107 points (17 goals, 90 assists) in 80 games. His play gained the interest of a couple scouts and GMs from the VHLM, including @Juice. Rather than finishing high school, he opted to declare for the Season 77 VHLM Draft at age 17. He was drafted 57th overall by the Yukon Rush. In his first season with the Rush, Powers compiled 62 points (9 goals, 53 assists) in 72 games along with 112 shots blocked. Yukon missed the playoffs. Nathan Powers would then declare for the Season 78 VHL Draft, where he would go 9th overall to the Prague Phantoms. Powers and Prague both agreed another season in the minors would be best. Powers worked hard to improve that offseason, and so did Yukon. The Rush would win the Prime Minister’s Cup with 118 points, best in the ‘M. Powers had a good season too, scoring 108 points (21 goals, 87 assists), and 117 shot blocks. Powers is currently competing for the Founder’s Cup with the Rush. The Phantoms have already signed him to an entry-level contract so that he will play in the VHL next season. Speaking on how he’s gotten to this point, Powers said, “I’m very fortunate to be where I am right now. My family and friends are great, and the VHLM experience has been amazing. I wasn’t sure if I should go to the VHLM and leave school, but now I know I made the right decision.” Word Count: 407

A Look Back at The Last 10 VHLM 2nd Overall Picks
JB123 replied to Alex's topic in Archived Media Spots
Review: This series is awesome. The info you provide is great, with awards+stats+overview. Not much more is needed, perhaps an image or two, maybe as a cover? But overall really good job. 9/10 -
S79 VHL Top Prospects Playoffs are already underway, which means draft season is soon to follow. Many players, both first-generation and recreates, will see their dream come true and their name called by a VHL team. Today, for sake of time, we will be looking at only the top prospects as they currently stand. TYLER REINHART, YUKON RUSH Position: RW Reinhart began his VHLM career with the Mississauga Hounds in Season 77, notching an assist in seven games and five points in 15 playoff games. As a waiver signing, Reinhart was eligible for the Season 78 'M draft, where he was picked up at #3 by the Yukon Rush. While in Yukon, he has transformed his game. In 72 games with the Rush this season, Reinhart totaled 133 points (64 goals, 69 assists), good for third league-wide. "Reinhart is a proven scorer who has all the looks of a #1 pick. I'd be surprised if he didn't go first. He keeps improving his game, and he is already an excellent all-around player, not just an offensive weapon." Possible destinations: Vancouver Wolves, HC Davos Dynamo, Pretty much whoever wins the draft lottery PAPA EMERITUS, YUKON RUSH Position: G Emeritus started in Saskatoon, appearing in four games and being credited with a 1-1 record, .915 save percentage and 1.99 goals-against average. He made two relief appearances in the playoffs for the Wild, saving all 19 shots he faced. Emeritus was selected by the Rush at fourth overall in the Season 78 VHLM Dispersal Draft. He went 55-10-4 with an .892 save percentage and 2.91 GAA, with five shutouts. He led the league in wins and tied for the lead in shutouts. "Emeritus has shown he can be a future franchise goaltender in the VHL. His development is very steady. He doesn't have an outlying weakness, which proves how legit he is. I could see him going first if the team really needs a goalie, because high-end starters don't come around all too often." Possible destinations: Vancouver Wolves, Los Angeles Stars, HC Davos Dynamo TAYLOR MOURNING, PHILADELPHIA REAPERS Position: RW Mourning played just two games in Season 77, unable to get on the board. However, Mourning came back strong this season after being passed on by 17 teams in the 'M draft. In 72 games with Philly, Mourning had 26 goals and 28 assists for 54 points. "Mourning is a player that has shown the ability to prove people wrong. Solid earning power forward. They can do many things to help a team win besides just scoring." Possible destinations: Prague Phantoms, Riga Reign, Los Angeles Stars POOPY PEEPANTS, MIAMI MARAUDERS Position: D Peepants played in four games with the Houston Bulls last season, picking up an assist and five shot blocks. In five playoff games, he had a goal and three assists for four points, and 13 shots blocked. He was drafted 10th overall in the VHLM draft this past season by Miami. In 72 games with them this season, he had six goals and 38 assists for 44 points. He also blocked 162 shots, most in the VHLM. "Arguably the best defender in this draft class, Peepants is great at both ends of the ice. He is a warrior in the defensive zone, blocking almost everything that comes his way; but he is a terrific playmaker as well; someone who I would look to as a power-play quarterback." Possible destinations: Los Angeles Stars, Moscow Menace, Prague Phantoms JONATHAN ORI, MINNESOTA STORM Position: C Ori was a rookie for the Storm this season, posting 40 points (4 goals, 36 assists) in 72 games. "Ori is a strong skater, someone who is hard to force off the puck. He can pass, defend, and win faceoffs. I could see him developing into a good two-way forward. His development has shown no signs of slowing down, either." Possible destinations: Malmo Nighthawks, Warsaw Predators, Prague Phantoms JEROME REINHART, YUKON RUSH Position: LW Reinhart began play this season with the Rush. In 72 games, he scored 42 goals and added 44 assists for 86 points total. "Jerome Reinhart, not to be confused with his brother, is a great winger. Reinhart has great skating ability and excellent scoring complemented by solid defense. He continues to develop at a good rate." Possible destinations: Vancouver Wolves (Two Reinharts like two Sedins?!), Prague Phantoms, Malmo Nighthawks ERLANTZ JOKINEN, YUKON RUSH Position: D Jokinen started off with the Rush this season. In 72 games, he scored 73 points (13 goals, 60 assists). In addition, he blocked 77 shots. "Jokinen is someone who flys under the radar in Yukon, but not for long. VHL teams should be paying attention to this great two-way talent. Jokinen's development is coming along very well. I could see the defender thriving on the top pair in the big league eventually, if not as a #1 D. Possible destinations: Vancouver Wolves, Malmo Nighthawks, Prague Phantoms, Riga Reign AJ WILLIAMS, OTTAWA LYNX Position: RW Williams was a waiver signing by the Lynx early on in the season. He appeared in all 72 games though, and finished with 56 points (22 goals, 34 assists). "Williams is someone teams should not look past in this draft. Although he had a late start this season, his development is consistent. He is good at both ends of the ice and a great skater. I think he will take the next step next season, whether that be in the 'M or VHL." Possible destinations: Vancouver Wolves, Malmo Nighthawks, Riga Reign, Los Angeles Stars BABY BOB, MISSISSAUGA HOUNDS Position: RW Bob began in Mexico City last season, where he played in two games, going scoreless. He was drafted 28th overall by the Hounds, and appeared in all 72 games for them. He notched 32 goals and 43 assists for 75 points. "Bob is developing well. He is a good skater with the ability to put the puck in the net. His offensive production this season showed this. Bob's defense is improving too." Possible destinations: Malmo Nighthawks, Vancouver Wolves, Los Angeles Stars, Riga Reign Good luck to everyone eligible for this season's draft. It should be an interesting one. There are certainly more great prospects in this class that I couldn't list. I am looking forward to draft day to see where everyone goes! Word Count: 1047

OTTAWA LYNX PRESS CONFERENCE WEEK ENDING JUNE 27, 2021 Answer 3 for 1 TPE, 6 for 2 TPE. 1. We have officially been eliminated from playoff contention. What, in your mind, went wrong? 2. What is something you enjoyed about Ottawa? 3. For players likely staying (already drafted in VHLM, under 250 TPE), what do you look forward to most next season, and what do you hope to accomplish with the Lynx? For players likely leaving (waiver signings, or leaving the M), what do you hope to do with another team, either in the VHLM or VHL? 4. Which goalie should win the Vezina Trophy? Andrei Vasilevskiy, Marc-Andre Fleury, or Philipp Grubauer? 5. For undrafted players, do you want to play in the North American Conference or European Conference of the VHL? For drafted players, would you rather spend your whole career with one team, or move about the league? 6. Favorite car? 7. Who was our MVP this season, in your opinion? Great group of people, even though we didn't make the playoffs you should all still be proud of what we achieved in Ottawa this season. @bRaidsz@stello2005@Charlie@Lazarus@ajwllmsn@qripll@MattyIce@osens@Marz@benaky@Edustava@Ekky@PistolP@Xalen11@BostonBruinsFan1806@Donno100

Review: Awesome graphic. I like how you made a border surrounding the picture so it kind of looks like it could hang on a wall or something. Shadow on right really makes this look like it could. Colors and patterns are cool, jersey swap is very clean. 10/10
