Probably because he's 7th out of 16 starting goalies in save percentage and has seen the 2nd fewest shots against in the league. Not much to say in these lengthy articles about a goalie who isn't carrying the team. Seems like every other goalie mentioned was just included with a young defenseman to say "they're leading the defense." Doesn't seem like anyone in specific was praised in here anyways with Wallob also being told to step it up with Warsaw.

Content you don’t get TPE for and exists solely to make the league more enjoyable?!?!? Who would want such madness? It’s all about the grind after all.

v.2 reacted to dstevensonjr in Toronto Legion - Victims of the Revenge Tour
The Toronto Legion won the S91 Continental Cup, defeating the Chicago Phoenix, Los Angeles Stars, and Helsinki Titans along the way. Each of the teams that they defeated vowed revenge against the Legion in the following season for ending their Cup bids, and so far this year they have done just that.

The Legion have faced those three teams a total of six times this season (2 against Chicago, 1 against Los Angeles, and 3 against Helsinki), and so far have gone a combined 0-6. Here's a breakdown of how those matchups have gone:

    Toronto vs. Chicago
    Game 9 - @ CHI - Phoenix win 2-1
    Game 10 - vs CHI - Phoenix win 3-1

    Toronto vs. Los Angeles
    Game 5 - vs LAS - Stars win 4-1

    Toronto vs. Helsinki
    Game 13 - @ HEL - Titans win 3-1
    Game 22 - @ HEL - Titans win 4-0
    Game 24 - vs HEL - Titans win 5-3

Toronto has lost the 6 revenge games by a combined score of 21-7, showing that these motivated teams are handling their matchups with ease. Outside of the revenge games this season, the Legion are 13-5-2. They'll need to get a much better handle on these revenge games in order to move up the standings.

We are live in down town Toronto here at VHLCBC head courters I'm you host Joe Joey and we are join by a very special guest! Most viewers will know him even though last season was his first season VHL and For your home town Toronto Legion Up and coming future all star Diego Machado! Welcome to the show Diego! (Diego) "Glad to be here cant wait to get started!" I Agree Diego lets get started with all questions i know the fans are waiting to hear! " I agree!"
I want to start off by saying congratulations on the champion ship with your team last season! How did it feel to win the Continental cup in your rookie year? "Thanks Joe, the feeling of winning most championships feel the same but there is always something special about winning the cup in the big leagues! Winning it as a rookie wouldn't have been possible if the managers in Toronto didn't give me the chance they did playing me up in a big role on the second line and them trusting me to play big minutes in the playoffs made winning as a rookie more special for me as the management trusted me to help bring the championship to Toronto!"
I can imagine there is almost no better feeling in the world then being crowned champions!

Toronto Had some impressive Rookies last season in Callahan and Fitzroy did that make it easier to join the big league team a little bit easier? "Absolutely it did! having having more rookies around in the beginning of the season 100% helped with the fear of joining the big leagues as the new kid on the block. Having other people going through the same experiences that I was made everything a whole lot easier! A bonus is that the three of us became really close throughout the season even though we weren't always on the ice together at the same time!"
I see making friends always seems easier when you all are going through the same things.

You Had a little bit of controversy this season that ended up getting you suspended for a week this season. Can you tell us what went through you mind during that period? "Yeah was not the most proud moment of my young career but people make mistakes mine unfortunately hurt myself and the team but i learned from it and will make sure i don't make the same mistakes in the future."
I completely agree with you Diego its how you handle when you make the mistake that shows you the type of person you are.

What was your most memorable moment this season other than the championship of course? "For me it has to be scoring my first goal! It was a amazing experience, it was in my first game i got an amazing pass and it made getting my first goal all the better. But the thing i will always remember the most is that my family was in the building to see it so it made for a special moment for my family as well not just for myself!"
Those moments are always best spent with your friends and family!

Well that's going to do it here today from all of us at VHLCBC have a great night and go legion!

This took me way too long, I tried to use a render each member used at one point. Please put that on player pages. Inspired by this reddit post I saw earlier.

Pretty interesting that every team has at least one MVP, but I guess it's been almost 20 seasons since the last expansion. TOR/MAL/RIG are the only teams without MVPs in the 16-team era.

I think there are two sides to being able to recruit well. The first is that you can grow the league, for sure, but the second is that you get to decide what you want the league to look like--and that's something that doesn't necessarily include growing it. I will say that the league's general administrative policy is fairly against expansion for sustainability reasons, and I agree with that. I don't think we should keep expanding until we've hit the limit of what's physically possible to recruit, for example. That's just asking for contraction later.

It's true, though, that the league needed this drive. We've seen a huge drop-off in the M over the past few seasons and it's best not left unchecked. Plus, it's awesome to know that good drives aren't just a remnant of Reddit working and the world being online.

v.2 reacted to LucyXpher in Running With the Bulls: BensonGPT
"In the world of ice hockey, where tradition and discipline often reign supreme, Herald Benson emerged as a breath of fresh air at the tender age of 18." (BensonGPT, 2024).

    ---

Tradition and discipline are two things the Houston Bulls seem to be in short supply of lately-- that, and a breath of fresh air could go a long way.  It's been an eventful week in H-Town, to say the least.  The team has been putting together wins-- and losses-- with regularity, which amounts to an even record of 6-6-2.  The youth and inexperience of this team has been on full display, but they will, no doubt, be happy to remain firmly in playoff contention as they continue to accustom themselves to the pace and physicality of the minor pro ranks.

Let's start with a breath of fresh air and talk about some of the more positive story lines first.

So far, it has been team captain, Trimiskez Artav @jake, who leads the charging Bulls, sharing the team points lead at 20 with Lucy Leitner. The Greenlander, Artav, has been a lethal weapon for his team through 14 games, converting shots at a 20% clip for 11 goals and pitching in with 9 assists.  Leitner, on the other hand, carries a basketful of apples (18), good for 3rd most in the VHLM, but has only converted 2 goals on 33 shots.

Normally, with such a low shooting percentage you'd expect to see regression towards the mean, but one scout I asked had this to say: "Right now, she's a bona fide muffin factory! Someone needs to tell Leitner that goalies will gladly eat muffins for breakfast, lunch, and dinner," (Anonymous pro scout).  A basketful of apples-- and muffins, apparently-- maybe someone should plan a team picnic.

Meanwhile, Leitner's partner on the top pair, Benjamin Abenduct @Schnee, has continued his torrid start, converting defense into offense for 17 points in only 10 games.  Assistant captain, Chris Reynolds Jr. @Crstats23, has also been producing for the Bulls, albeit in spurts.  He cashed in 7 points across 2 games recently against Saskatoon and Ottawa, but has only managed 1 point in his last 3.  That being said, a high shot count is likely to work in his favor as he currently sits 4th in the league with 77 shots.

VHLM veteran, Barry McOckiner @LanerDUST has been a stable presence in the Bulls' top scoring lines, contributing an even point per game so far, and young Czech sniper, Filip Zinek @FiZi, has also shown signs of heating up with 6 goals and 5 assists.  Though the points haven't necessarily been coming fast and furious for Nathan Ecker @Nathan_8, count him as breakout candidate as this season progresses.  So far, his underlying numbers are trending in the right direction, and if he can find some consistency and chemistry with regular linemates, the Bulls may begin to threaten opponents with a potent secondary scoring punch.

In the same vein, 2nd pairing defenders, Losfeld @losfail and Toland @ctoland102, have eaten up important minutes for the Bulls, showing flashes of potential.  If they can both elevate their game with more consistency, it's going to be a lot harder for opposing teams to reach the Houston net.

    ---

Ah, yes... the net.  Look, I'm not going to say that the Houston goalies stink, but in the world of ice hockey, where tradition and discipline often reign supreme, Herald Benson @Benson and Ondrej Vencko @Mutti haven't exactly emerged as a breath of fresh air.

Last week, there was speculation about Vencko's connection to a Czech fugitive who was arrested outside the Bulls arena.  Authorities are still conducting an investigation, though there is no word yet on whether any charges will be laid against Vencko who continues to split starts in the Houston goal.

This week, it was Herald Benson who became the center of controversy as he was found to be in violation of league media policies.  To his credit, Benson has dealt with the matter professionally and will not be appealing his weeklong suspension of pay. Despite the reprimand, Benson remained upbeat in the ensuing press conference, saying, "Let me be a crazy goalie, damnit!"

Crazy indeed, but concerning, nonetheless. Benson sits at an .886 save percentage and Vencko owns an .881, with the two allowing a combined 49 goals through 14 games. If this run of form persists, the "Houston Crease" may soon refer to the furrowed brow of the GM @AJW who can't be happy with the negative attention his goalies have been bringing to the squad as of late.

Unfortunately, the goalies weren't the only source of consternation this week as the sudden retirement and departure of Nathan Schwartz from the team sucked some of the fresh air out of the locker room.  There are no indications at this time as to why he opted for an early retirement, but his departure leaves a gaping hole at 1C that Bulls management will be scrambling to fill in the coming weeks.

    ---

Tradition and discipline-- perhaps, ironically, what the Bulls need most.

So far, this team has lacked discipline on the ice, taking too many penalties and struggling to defend on the penalty kill.  There were at least a few games decided by these two factors and addressing this issue should be a priority for the Bulls if they want to help out their goalies who have been under fire lately.

With such a young roster and many new faces, the potential is through the roof with this team, though that potential can be a two edged sword.  As the Bulls experienced with Schwartz, a prospect trending towards boom can very quickly turn to bust.  It will be imperative for the Bulls to establish a culture of hard work and perseverance, to begin a tradition of winning with this new generation of players who are still only getting their feet under them.  72 games is a long season in the VHLM and it will require commitment from all members of this squad if they hope to achieve their goals.  This is a team that still has aspirations of winning the cup, what remains to be seen is the drive of these young rookies over the course of a long season to stay disciplined and motivated.

Let's not be too quick to count them out-- or crown them champions a week and a half into the season.  There's a ton of hockey left to be played and I'm here for it.

    Notes:
    - In a quick turnaround after the departure of center, Nathan Schwartz, the Bulls announced the signing of a new centerman, SID THE FREAKING KID GOAT CROSBY, just this afternoon.  No, I'm not trying to shout at you, that's the player's name.  Take it up with who ever allows these wild birth certificates to go through.
