Baby Boomer got a reaction from Cookie in VSN Presents: S92 VHLE Season Preview
    @Zetterberg
    Welcome everyone,

To begin with, I would like to congratulate Sjin and the Cologne Express for their S91 Renaissance Cup. It was their third in a row and their fourth in the last five seasons. A lot happened during the last off-season, trades, FA signings and players getting called up in the VHL, so we can see teams having a better or worse season than expected.

    #1 Bratislava Watchmen
    Offense rank: 1st
    Defense rank: 2nd
    Goalie rank: 3rd

The Bratislava Watchmen only made the playoffs one season since S87 and after some difficulties last season, the team looks stronger than ever and ready to compete. With the help of veterans like Luke Glendenning @ColeMrtz, Mikko Borisyuk @Minebro, James MacAvoy @Enraged and Darko Alexander Malkovich @AColdCanadian, Bratislava is really well equipped to help the young rookies like Kimi Raikkonen @mattyIceman, Karol Lamb @dlamb, Vlad Von Carstein @Dom and Pipo Popa @npuBeT have a good season and lead the team to the promised land. The Watchmen are going to be a very scarry team at the end of the season when everybody will be ready for the playoffs.

    #2 Cologne Express
    Offense rank: 2nd
    Defense rank: 1st
    Goalie rank: 2nd

After winning their third Renaissance Cup in a row, the Cologne Express are not expected to look back. Indeed, the Express once again have a really good roster and are going to compete for one of the first spot of the standings in the regular season. Cologne can count on returning players such as Theo Allard @InstantRockstar, Anthony Simmons @Starchychaff, Jordan Bennett @Plate, Joseph Dubois @Dubois and Clark @cl4rk to show the way to the young rookies, like George Richmond @badcolethetitan, Adi Dassler @BOOM and Vanellope von Schweetz @Arce , that going to learn what it is like to play in a winning culture.

    #3 Stockholm Vikings
    Offense rank: 3rd
    Defense rank: 6th
    Goalie rank: 4th

When you look at Stockholm’s roster, you see two things. First, you see that the Vikings will not have any difficulties scoring goals with forwards like Riley Martin @Smarch, Alexandre Crosby @hockeyis66 and Isaac mcflopper @sportexperts show. Second, Guntis Gavilrovs @Girts and Giorgiy Costanzov @Mongoose87 will have to play on top of their head all season long if they don’t want to allow six goals per game. So, Stockholm’s offense can hope to reach the ones of the top teams, but if no change to the defense is made by the GM @Doomsday, I just don’t see how the Vikings can compete with teams like Bratislava and Cologne.

    #4 Vasteras Iron Eagles
    Offense rank: 6th
    Defense rank: 3rd
    Goalie rank: 1st

After winning two King’s Cup in a row, the Vasteras Iron Eagles lost a couple of really important pieces that got called up in the VHL. Therefore, Vasteras is not a top tier anymore, but I can still see them compete for a playoff spot if their goalie, Karl Herzlich @LastGoon007, and their top defenseman, Winston Dixon jr @Rjdixon01 and Hannibal Barca @DreMin15, can carry the team defensively. Even if the Iron Eagles offense is not the best in the league, players like Miroslav @Zyrok and Tom Dufour @Cookie can still have an impact and help the team offensively.

    #5 Rome Gladiators
    Offense rank: 4th
    Defense rank: 4th
    Goalie rank: 5th

The Rome Gladiators have not missed the playoffs since S87 and like the Vasteras Iron Eagles, lost a couple of players during the off-season. This means that Rome will not be at the top of the standings at the end of the season, but if they play very well, I can see them make the playoffs. Led by their Swedish captain, BjorkaBjorn BjornaBjorkson @JardyB10, the offense of the Rome Gladiators can also count on Behrens Minion @UnknownMinion and LeBen Aky @Ben_Reformed to produce offensively and give the team a chance to win enough games to make the playoffs.

    #6 Oslo Storm
    Offense rank: 5th
    Defense rank: 5th
    Goalie rank: 6th

After being one of the best team in the league from S85 to S89, the Oslo Storm entered a rebuild in S90 and after two painful seasons, we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel in Oslo. Even if Oslo is currently ranked sixth in this ranking, the Storm is really not far away from the Rome Gladiators and even from the Vasteras Iron Eagles and the last playoffs spot. If they want to make the playoffs, they are players such as Logan Ninefingers @Scurvy, Jussi Jokinenegg @HearnNation67 and liam oinas @ojje that will have to step up and carry the team on their shoulders.

Thanks everyone for reading, I wish you all good luck in the regular season and see you in another VSN article.

    @Jason kranz

Hey everybody! Welcome to this season’s VHL Season preview, after a busy offseason, full of roster changes there’s been a considerable shift in team’s outlooks this season with a major shift towards the European Conference. So, without further to do, let’s jump right into it!

    North American Conference

    1 - Calgary Wranglers
    Forward Rank - 5th
    Defense Rank - 4th
    Goalie Rank - 3rd
    Conference Rank - 1st
    League Rank - 3rd

New GM @leandrofg, came in and made a splash this offseason, bringing in Skor McFleury @Alex and Pope Francis @nurx to revamp the defensive group. While the majority of the roster is still the same, and it is very well rounded, there is one main area for concern, specifically the lack of a pure goalscoring elite forward. This will likely hinder their offensive production this season. With that being said, they could very well cruise to the top of the conference, barring any scoring issues.

    2 - D.C. Dragons
    Forward Rank - 3rd
    Defense Rank - 11th
    Goalie Rank - 7th
    Conference Rank - 2nd
    League Rank - 5th

The D.C. Dragons were able to finally find a solution in goal with Henry Tucker Jr @NSG, the hope is that this improvement, along with Mark Calaway @Beketov hopefully stepping into the role of a number 1 defensemen. Overall D.C. is a very well rounded team, and if they can add a 4th defensemen, could be favourites to win the North American Conference. As of right now, the fate of D.C. rests with Jason @Jason kranz and The Frenchman @OrbitingDeath as they will both need to have great seasons for D.C. to succeed.

    3 - Toronto Legion
    Forward Rank - 12th
    Defense Rank - 10th
    Goalie Rank - 6th
    Conference Rank - 5th
    League Rank - 10th

Toronto is in a weird spot right now, while they do have the top end talent in every position, a lack of depth may hurt them as the season starts. However, It’s very difficult to overlook their core, and some players that are still improving on a weekly basis. Toronto is a bit of a question mark this season, but if they stay in contention until the trade deadline and use their cap space effectively, it won’t be a surprise when they repeat.

    4 - Los Angeles Stars
    Forward Rank - 2nd
    Defense Rank - 12th
    Goalie Rank - 9th
    Conference Rank - 3rd
    League Rank - 7th

If D.C.’s defense was an area of concern, Los Angeles’ is very much in the same boat. While LA still has one of the league’s best and most proven offenses led by Todd Cooke @KRZY and Larry Abass Jr @RileyL, Elias Lampi @Pifferfish will need to duplicate their S91 if Los Angeles is to be competitive. Los Angeles arguably has a uphill battle this season if they hope to avoid the wildcard round. With the steep drop off to the bottom 3 teams in the conference they should safely make the playoffs at least.

    5 - New York Americans
    Forward Rank - 9th
    Defense Rank - 6th
    Goalie Rank - 11th
    Conference Rank - 4th
    League Rank - 8th

New York? In the playoffs? That’s what we are predicting this season! @STZ hit the ground running, brining in FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY Analfist, and Malum Maellard @frescoelmo! In combination with the young rookie talents in Callum Gary Yannic Janser @Daniel Janser, WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW @rory, and Rin Kagamine @Rin. New York’s rookies are developing quickly and should make this a top team in no time. Making the playoffs would be huge for New York and for the first time in a while that is the expectation this season.

    6 - Chicago Phoenix
    Forward Rank - 13th
    Defense Rank - 13th
    Goalie Rank - 12th
    Conference Rank - 6th
    League Rank - 14th

The departure of Scotty Sundin @fromtheinside hurts, while most of the roster has improved, hoping for another miracle season is a far cry from the truth. While the addition of Yaroslav Trunov @qripll is an interesting move, they are similar in skill to Sundin. It will certainly be a tough season in Chicago. They are fairly well rounded and very young, there is a slight chance that Chicago at least makes the playoff race interesting, but it could be over quickly.

    7 - Vancouver Wolves
    Forward Rank - 16th
    Defense Rank - 15th
    Goalie Rank - 14th
    Conference Rank - 8th
    League Rank - 16th

Outside of Liv Slater @Subject056, there’s not much going on in Vancouver this season, which is expected given that their team is largely built around the S92 draft. While this season is clearly development focused in Vancouver, they should hit the ground running in S93. Vancouver could very well be in a battle for lottery odds with Seattle.

    8 - Seattle Bears
    Forward Rank - 14th
    Defense Rank - 16th
    Goalie Rank - 16th
    Conference Rank - 7th
    League Rank - 15th

Seattle is really taking their time with their development, while they do have some solid young players this season with Severus Targaryen @Banackock, Gustav Mathias @Berocka, Toby Kadachi @ROOKIE745, and Simons Worth Nightmare @zepheter, outside of them there isn’t much special this season, we can expect Seattle to likely be in a tank battle with Vancouver for most of this season.

    European Conference

    1 - Prague Phantoms
    Forward Rank - 4th
    Defense Rank - 1st
    Goalie Rank - 5th
    Conference Rank - 2nd
    League Rank - 2nd

Prague is back! After a disappointing end to S91 which saw the team just miss the playoffs, while their roster is essentially the same as the lone addition is Spanish Moon Moth @Renomitsu, we can expect a classic revenge season here, and don’t be surprised if Prague takes the league by storm this season. John Jameson @Frank is still a top 5 player in the league, and if Matt Murdock @Acydburn can deliver some solid goaltending, Prague should cruise to a top 3 spot in the conference and maybe a Victory Cup.

    2 - Helsinki Titans
    Forward Rank - 6th
    Defense Rank - 2nd
    Goalie Rank - 4th
    Conference Rank - 3rd
    League Rank - 4th

Helsinki was essentially able to run it back with their S91 roster which made it to the finals, with the lone change being as a result of the Landon Wolanin @jacobcarson877 retirement, as Grimgor Ironside @FrostBeard made the jump to the VHL. With that being said, Helsinki is right behind London with their window quickly coming to a close as Pierre Emile Bouchard @Gaikoku-hito has only 1 season left, and their core is primarily S86 players with Daryl Dixon @Ricer13, Rick Grimes @tinafrombobsburgers, and Fuukka Rask @Jubis. Expect to see Helsinki be a bit more aggressive down the road. With that being said they are definitely in the top tier of teams in the league and should challenge for a cup again.

    3 - London United
    Forward Rank - 1st
    Defense Rank - 5th
    Goalie Rank - 1st
    Conference Rank - 1st
    League Rank - 1st

Now London is in their twilight of their window, with Molly The Cat @JCarson retiring at the end of this season, and Jesse Teno @aimkin the following season. London may only have one or two more seasons left to compete. While the roster is very complete, they do lack a true number one defensemen. However, with the league’s top offense and goaltending, that’s honestly not much of a concern. If Teno can duplicate their S91, don’t be surprised if London pushes for the top of the conference.

    4 - Malmo Nighthawks
    Forward Rank - 7th
    Defense Rank - 3rd
    Goalie Rank - 10th
    Conference Rank - 4th
    League Rank - 6th

Malmo is coming off of an interesting offseason, with the salary cap costing them to have to trade away one of their better forwards and also losing one of the league top defensemen. The good news is, Jacob Stone @scoop is ready to step into that number 1 role, and their forward core is still very solid. Ironically, the only question with their roster is the same as last season, Ash Sparks @DarkSpyro has now solidified themselves into the second tier of goaltenders in the league, and while functional, the need for an elite goaltender still exists. The gap from 4th to 7th is very small, and for that reason it was difficult to come to conclusions on our predictions. We have Malmo towards the front of this group, but it’s anyone’s game.

    5 - Moscow Menace
    Forward Rank - 11th
    Defense Rank - 9th
    Goalie Rank - 13th
    Conference Rank - 7th
    League Rank - 12th

Moscow is probably the league’s biggest question mark heading into this season. While on paper right now the team is 7th in the EU, the roster is very well balanced, and the majority of the players are very high earning meaning that the gap will close and in a hurry. A fast start to the season could be all Moscow needs to make a playoff push down the road. The roster is relatively complete, and time may just be the only thing holding Moscow back this season.

    6 - Riga Reign
    Forward Rank - 8th
    Defense Rank - 14th
    Goalie Rank - 15th
    Conference Rank - 6th
    League Rank - 11th

Riga turned heads last season, and that made them difficult to place this time around. While they do have offensive talent to make the playoffs again, their defense and goaltending leave something to desire. AK92 Wit da Hoodie @hedgehog337 is coming off of a career season, and could very well be the “Scotty Sundin” of this season and pull Riga to the playoffs. Additionally, while their defense and goaltending is at the lower end of the league right now, they do have plenty of potential to improve and quickly. We have Riga somewhere in the middle of that 4th to 7th area.

    7 - Warsaw Predators
    Forward Rank - 10th
    Defense Rank - 7th
    Goalie Rank - 8th
    Conference Rank - 5th
    League Rank - 9th

Warsaw had a very busy offseason, bringing in a lot of players to strengthen their existing core. With that being said their recently acquired goaltender only has 1 season left in their career, and with no top goalie in the system, Warsaw is in do or die mode, as with no solution their window is this season. While there could be more long term solutions available next offseason, don’t be surprised if Warsaw moves a lot to push for the cup right now. With that being said they do have a bit of an uphill battle this season as they are lacking a true number one forward and defensemen. While they could finish anywhere between 4th and 7th, it will be close.

    8 - HC Davos Dynamo
    Forward Rank - 15th
    Defense Rank - 8th
    Goalie Rank - 2nd
    Conference Rank - 8th
    League Rank - 13th

Davos made the move into a much needed rebuild this season, but held onto David Jokinen @Ahma, a number 1 defensemen in the current landscape, and Lachlan Summers @kirbithan, now a franchise icon, potential future Hall of Famer, and the 2nd best goalie in the league. With this Davos does have a very interesting outlook this season, as while their offense won’t be setting the world on fire, they are very solid defensively and could potentially hold out to win a few low scoring games against just about any team. With that being said, those could be few and far between.

Thank you for reading this season’s VHL preview! Best of luck to everyone this season!

“And the winner of the S91 Daisuke Kanou Trophy, for leading the Toronto Legion to their first Continental Cup in 26 seasons, Joel Castle!”

Shaking my head in bewilderment, I slowly get to my feet and make my way to the stage. I get high-fives and a few hugs from my Legion teammates as I cross the floor. I’m in shock, my brain racing through the last five seasons. From my first start for the Legion in S87 to our first playoff game in S90 and the thrilling series win against Vancouver to the crushing defeat at the hands of Los Angeles. Knowing of all the adversity we faced this season, the struggle to get back into the playoffs but just having that confidence in one another and using the lessons learned the last few seasons to march through each series and finally finish our comeback in Game 6 of the Final. The memory of hoisting the Cup and skating around the rink followed by my Legion brothers is bright in my mind as I accept the beautiful Kanou Trophy from the presenter.

Emotion welling up inside, I simply say: “Thank you. Thank you. This is a dream come true, an honor and a day I didn’t know if it would ever come but I kept working toward it anyway. Thank you to our GM Moon for assembling us together and believing in us even when the critics didn’t. Thank you to our captain, Mac Atlas, who could be up here instead of me after his incredible run and breaking the Legion single playoffs points record. Thank you to all the rest of my teammates, Jimi – you were awesome and if Mac hadn’t broken the record, you would have. Dens and Tomas, you both fought until the bitter end and now you retire as champions! Bobby and Jimmy were solid all playoffs in the back end and Burnsy came up big when needed. Our Toronto Trio of rookies, Diego, Harry, and Walter – you guys played like vets – don’t ever forget these moments. And finally, but not least, my brother in pads, Evan you helped keep me focused and loose throughout the whole playoffs. You always kept cheering us on, pushing us to be better. And not to forget, a huge thank you to our fans in Toronto and around the world who have stayed with us for the long haul and now we’ve been able to bring a Cup to TO. You guys are the best fans in the VHL and we love you all! To all the goalies I faced this season – you guys made me push myself to be the best I could be. I look forward to facing you next season.”

I turn shake a few hands then grab the trophy and lift it to a round of applause. As I make my way backstage, the announcer says, “This is Joel Castle’s first Kanou trophy and the first individual trophy of his career.”

The rest of the night is honestly a blur. There are pictures, more hugs and handshakes, poses and parties. But I can’t stop thinking about the trophy shining in the lights and what it means. Now, I have to be ready even more for next season. We are the defending champs and everyone in the VHL will be gunning for us. And it’s a great feeling. I’m ready for it.

The S91 winner of the Jake Thunder trophy is Rin Kagamine @Rin.

This trophy was the most difficult to attributed as their was so many really good defensemen this season. However, Rin Kagamine did a little bit better than the other. Kagamine had 14 goals, 45 assists and 59 points in 72 games with 124 hits and 287 shots blocked. Rin played for the Oslo Storm and this is why they have a differential of -46, but even with a really bad team, they found the way to do really good offensively and defensively. The other nominees were Celise Pereira @asteria, Jordan Bennett @Plate, Leif Reingaard @Zetterberg and Mina @Baozi. Congrats to all of them!

    CONTINENTAL CUP

The Toronto Legion were just built differently in the playoffs this season on route to their first Continental Cup since S65! After finishing the season with a 46-24-2 record, the 2nd place team in the North American conference faced a surprise Chicago team in the first round, taking on the 3rd place team, as they pulled out the brooms and swept the upstart Phoenix! In the second round D.C. came up against Los Angeles who was coming off of an interesting series against the D.C. Dragons, they made it past them in only 5 games. In the finals the Toronto Legion faced their biggest challenge in Helsinki, who after dropping the first 2 games, stormed back to win it all in game 6 overtime to capture their tenth Continental Cup in franchise history! Congratulations!

    Hello @Members!

I'm excited to announce that we have made our charitable donation for the year of $1656 to Doctor's Without Borders!

Additionally you all donated $1804 separate from the league bringing our total for the 2023 Holiday Charity drive to $3540! I'm always amazed to see the league come together and make such a difference in the world, it's great to see.

You all want some rewards I imagine though don't you? Well it was close but thanks to being $40 over the $3500 threshold we have once again hit every community goal which means every member of the community can claim 20 uncapped TPE and a PT Doubles week! It also means all our community items were met which means:

@twists will stream a declaration of his love for everyone that's been active in the past week.
@DarkSpyro will perform some Christmas themed metal songs
@Grape will do a full stream of all the Five Nights at Freddy's games.
@Acydburn will stream something, he just hasn't decided what yet.
@Beketov will once again stream Zoo Tycoon 2 Ultimate and name animals after VHL members.

As mentioned in the OP, unfortunately to keep things fair and not have a bunch of future creates claiming this: Rewards may only be applied to players created on, or before, December 25th, 2023

We'll get that stuff all scheduled as well as the raffle draw scheduled soon so keep an eye out for that and, once again, thank you all for making this time of year in the VHL so special!

Baby Boomer reacted to dstevensonjr in Championship Honeymoon Over, It's Time For Work
It's been 9 days since the Toronto Legion were crowned S91 Continental Cup Champions. While celebrating over the holidays has been a blast, it is time to focus on the upcoming season, and the difficulty that lies in being the team that everybody is looking to unseed as Champion.

Training camps open in just 2 days, which means that the returning Legion players (there are many) will be entering camp with a target on their backs. It is telling that many of the Legion players who were available to head to free agency opted to stay in Toronto and defend the title. Their task now is to continue to improve and work to fill the holes left by retiring players Tomas Sogaard and Dens Oden.

The Legion have leaders Mac Atlas, Jimi Jaks, Bobby Bob, and Joel Castle under contract already. Atlas, Jaks, and Castle all have 1 more year left on their deals (Castle picked up an option to stay), while Bob has 1 year and a mutual option for S93. On the younger side of the roster, Diego Machado and Harry Callahan both signed matching 3 year extensions to stay in Toronto, while Walter Fitzroy Jr. has 1 year left before free agency. The open slots on the roster include 2 forwards, 2 defense, and a back up goaltender.

In order for the Legion to be back where they were last season, they'll need the younger group to take a big step forward this season and continue to develop into regular contributors. That hard work must start now, with camp about to get underway.
