  1. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) The news are out. Daniel Janser will dress one last time for Team Western Europe. Nico Pearce will also be on his international farewell tour and try to defend the title. There were some surprises in the nominated roster, as Gonçalves, arguably one of the best centers in the VHL was not invited to the party. We were also mildly surprised when repeat cup winner Marcel Janser was on the list for the defending Champion. The Swiss veteran defender has only played in the S83 WJHC team, which won gold. Interestingly, he played in the final against three of his later London Cup winning team mates Cat, Retoslav and Yasilievich and even scored an assist in the process. On the other hand, there were some familiar faces, if we look back at the S86 World Champions: As already mentioned, D. Janser and Nico Pearce return to the international stage. But so do Lavelle, Jameson and Laperriere up front, Maellard, Nano and Strasmore on the blue line as well as Cole Pearce in net. It would be amazing, if Marcel could lift another trophy this season and so win the double. He is the living, breathing evidence that one can have a respectable career, even if one is not the most talented player in the league or the roster. He has proven that with hard work, consistent play and the willingness to sacrifice your body for the team can take you a very long way, up to and including a Continental Cup win. He may have no individual awards to his name, but he won two cups, something only a tiny percentage of players can boast. In fact, there are household names and HOFer like Mike Szatkowski, Christian Stolzschweiger, David Knight and Devon Marlow-Marta who 'only' managed to get to the pinnacle of the VHL once in their illustrous careers. The World Cup is due to start later this week. So let's have a look at the ProAM tournament which is running at the present. The Bangor Beavers are second in the standings with one point deficit against the Steelheads (but two games in hand). Daniel has picked up speed and leads almost any relevant statistics for forwards. The Rotkreuz native is top of the league in goals scored, points, shooting percentage, power play goals, hattricks, points per 20 minutes and longest nose hair. He is amongst the top ten in assists, game winning goals, shots, +/- rating and only fellow Beaver Cooke has a marginally better win rate at the draw. So while the Janser brothers have eclipsed their zenith and are on their way out of professional sports, they are still kicking and setting an example for other aspiring Swiss youngsters. They have been tempered in hundreds of hard fought battles and found good enough to compete with the best. Once retirement comes around and it is time to say goodbye, Marcel and Dan can raise their heads high and proudly say: 'We have given our best.' Until such sad day dawns, please find Dan's statistics for the ProAM Tournament: 25gp, 27g, 28a, 55pts, +14, 14 PIM, 57 hits, 20sb, 3 gwg, 10ppg, 63.85FO% and 3 First Star distinctions Here are some links to related articles. We will report from the Jansers again in due course. https://vhlforum.com/topic/136259-a-tale-of-two-brothers-half-done/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/136282-a-tale-of-two-brothers-one-step-away/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/136491-a-tale-of-two-brothers-repeat-continental-cup-winner/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/136583-a-tale-of-two-brothers-the-last-off-season/
  2. come to California they said, it's fun they said
  3. While essential for a succesful hockey-career, it is not really exciting ;)... (unless you have no spotter and dance with death by letting the bar fall to your throat...)
  4. Well since the WC is hosted in Québec (and from what I hear about the attitude of some Québecois) I would not put it beyond the French-Canadians to refer to France as Eastern Québec.
  5. Does Cologne make a come back in the VHL? I must have missed this bit of information... EDIT: Easy win for Cologne in this deal...
  6. stop capping, you are the tradiest GM in Davos' history and took you all but seven season to get there... GM spreadsheet - Google Tabellen
  7. especially the S83 players are a pain in the backside...
  8. 1. I certainly was more involved when I was a GM in the VHLM/E. I will not follow it live as it is at 1AM my time on a Monday. 2. To feel out whether I have a franchise lifer or a journeymen. Sure, TPE are important but life can get in between and so to me is secondary-ish... 3. I think the JST serves to retain player who created after TDL (and for GM's to scout), the ProAM is just for having fun in silly teams which you would never see in that composition. But the ones creating tangible legacies are the WC and WJC which can make or break the entry of a player into the triple gold club. 4. I plead the fifth on this one, hoping I have done what was expected of me/my player. 5. I used to like it in my teens, but to quote Roger Murtaugh: 'I am too old for this shit.' I think in our day and age Wifi/connectivity would be difficult to waive. 6. Just being a good person one can have a friendly banter with. And one who complements the GM in the day to day business of managing a team (be it scouting, writing PC's or analyzing the stats to tweak the strats/lines. This depends heavily on the GM in question.
  9. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) After a long season the Janser brothers enjoy their off-time pursuing different interests. Daniel is participating in the S88 edition of the ProAM Tournament, dressing for the Bangor Beavers. Marcel on the other hand, spends some time fishing on Kurt's yacht. This newspaper dug a bit in the draft records of the S81 class and found the following interesting facts: - From the 27 players drafted ahead of Marcel, only eight have a cup ring (Nezuko, Miglaskems, Meridius, Hogan 2, Cheese, D. Janser, Leduc and Preobrazhensky), none of them has two. - Mulds has decided to play in the VHLE after seven years without a title in the VHL. - Sanderson has also taken his play back to Europe (albeit after only five seasons) - Chiang has decided to retire early, after winning the Scott Boulet Trophy in their final season. - Irish netminder Byrne never made the jump to the big show and hired their skills out in Europe in several franchises over their career. - Former Wrangler (where they had a career season) Vladovechsenkchushkin also decided to hang up their skates prematurely. - Left Winger William Groves called it quits after their final season with Riga in S85. - Connor Johnson never left the VHLM and retired in S81. - Finnish Goalkeeper Juha Jarvinen did not pursue a professional hockey career beyond S81 and never dressed for the Riga Reign who drafted them at 22nd OA (read: account banned for being a multi). - Calgary prospect Ragnar Hagstrom was caught using performance enhancing substances (read: also banned in the wake of the 2021 Holidays Multi-infestation). - Cameron Elsby, Helsinki's pick at 25, played last season for Chicago, albeit in a rather supporting role. They dressed for Vasteras together with Marcel in the S82/S83 seasons. - Marshall Maxx gave up their dreams of a VHL career after the S81 season. - Swiss Defender Janet Snakehole decided to pursue other career opportunities after the S83 with Vasteras, where they patrolled the blue line together with Marcel. After this excursion into the past, we move back into the present where the Bangor Beavers are topping the standings with a 6-0-1 record. Daniel is leading the charge with 16 points, good enough for third behind Yasilievich with 21 points and Nico Pearce with 19 points respectively. Here are his full stats in the ProAM Tournament: 7gp, 6g, 10a, 16pts, +2, 6 PIM, 17 hits, 5sb, 3ppg, FO% 60.44, 1 First Star nomination https://vhlforum.com/topic/136133-a-tale-of-two-brothers-london-goes-davos/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/136259-a-tale-of-two-brothers-half-done/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/136282-a-tale-of-two-brothers-one-step-away/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/136491-a-tale-of-two-brothers-repeat-continental-cup-winner/

  12. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) The London United did it. They got the stigma of not being a playoff team out of their system. Despite a 3-1 deficit in the series they did the unthinkable and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Of course, such a feat is always a combined effort. However, we think that few will object, when we state that netminder Jesse Teno was dragging their squad screaming and kicking across the goal line. The US-native has already more than double the playoff games than any other goalkeeper in London's (admittedly short) history. A mind boggling .949 save rate and allowing less than two goals per game, gave the Londoners a fighting chance every night. Obviously, the offensive giants in the former Stoltzschweiger-awardee Molly the Cat (who once and for all dispelled the rumours that he is only in the team by way of nepotism), Siyan Yasilievich, the S87 Beketov winner, who started scoring goals just when his team needed them the most and Igor Ivan Retoslav were also a driving force to the franchise's post-season success. Igor Molotov, Hari Singh Nalwa in his swan song and 3D-artist Leonard Triller provided crucial secondary scoring. The former Mississauga Hound Hunor Solyom, former Wranglers prospect Adam Rage, left winger Sock Monkey and last but not least veteran defender, erstwhile Wrangler and repeat cup winner Marcel Janser were more concerned with the defensive aspects of the game. Especially the latter showed a very balanced mix of grit (36 hits), discipline (only 24 PIM) as well as sacrifice (35sb) and brought cool-headed defensive play to the cup-winning table. While Marcel is enjoying his well deserved triumph, Daniel is preparing for the ProAM Tournament where he will dress for the Bangor Beavers, together with freshly-made champions Molotov and Rage, ex-Wranglers Reinhart, his team mate Abbas, seasoned defender Greg, forwards Cooke, Walker Jr and Toms as well as back Yvel. The post between the pipes is occupied by future Wrangler starting goaltender Dilson. When asked, why he always participates in the off-season tournament, Janser said: 'It is fun to play in a team consisting out of VHLM, VHLE and VHL players and even retired oldtimers. It has an interesting mix of fun tournament and competitiveness. And you get to know more players you normally would not get in such close contact with.' As the World Cup is also due during this offseason, we asked the Swiss prodigy, whether he will dress for Europe once more and help to defend the title. Said Janser: 'It is of course always an honour to be nominated for such an elite squad and it would be nice to get a last hurrah on the international level. However, I have not heard from the GM yet, and there are talented and younger players out there, who also deserved the opportunity to show their skills on a World Cup. If the staff are of the opinion that they need me, or that I can contribute to the teams success, I am more than willing to heed the call. Should I not be nominated, it is not a biggie. I have achieved more than I ever dreamt of and have no problem to let it go at the backend of my career. More time to spend with my family I guess. So, you see, however you turn it, I can only win.' Here are the final post season stats for the Rotkreuz natives: Marcel: 23gp, 4g, 6a, 10pts, +2, 24 PIM, 36 hits, 35sb, 4ppg Daniel: 11gp, 4g, 7a, 11pts, +4, 14 PIM, 24 hits, 7sb, 57.78FO% Stay tuned for further updates on our trophy-collecting hockey exports in our next edition. https://vhlforum.com/topic/136120-a-tale-of-two-brothers-second-round-achieved/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/136133-a-tale-of-two-brothers-london-goes-davos/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/136259-a-tale-of-two-brothers-half-done/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/136282-a-tale-of-two-brothers-one-step-away/

  17. 1. oh damn, I do not know. It is a good story that London made the finals after not going beyond the first round ever before. 2. Europe of course, hoping for a repeat. 3. It certainly does not hurt to get new members to see their players in action more often. 4. Hey Lindy you are always welcome for a fishing trip with me and Marcel on our dad's yacht. 5. Sunny at long last, we did some gardening and do to pentecost it was an extended weekend to boot. 6. I only do that when I go to the stadium or in a pub (and not even always then) but not when I am at home.
