  10. Where to start? I appreciate @JB123 who drafted me into the Brigade in the first ever JST. He believed in me and made me captain and gave me first line minutes long before anyone else had a reason to do so. He also showed me the ropes on how to earn TPE. I appreciate @Spartan, who allowed me to back claim some of my superfluous mediaspots as .com articles and helped me to develop my player faster due to the advice given by him. He also allowed me to GM Team World in the S82 World Cup, even though my track record as a GM at that time was anything but stellar. I appreciate @Gustav for his build guide I followed to the tee (except the leadership I spent before I found said guide). I do not appreciate that he turned down to be my AGM in Mississauga though (jk it was a fair and relatable reason you brought up (not that any was needed in the first place)) I appreciate @N0HBDY and @Alex who were my GM's during my VHLM season and allowed my brother and me to stick together a little bit longer after being in the Brigade. Also N0HBDY gave me the chance to act as his AGM with Mississauga and gave a warm recommendation as his successor on the GM seat. I appreciate @Ricer13 who put trust in me and picked me in the first round for the Wranglers. He made me feel welcome from the first minute and picked Marcel (probably against better judgement) so we can stick together in the VHL. He is also eager to make sick graphics for me, whenever I have a sudden inspiration for something. His advise on building of my player and putting together lines when I was GM for the World Cup is invaluable. Also for being so good natured when pulling his leg about his beloved 'Nucks (not much opportunity though since Bruce is at the helm). His moral support when I am angry at my player for not being better and generally sucking. He always finds a way to make me see the long game. I appreciate the lockerroom in Calgary with @Vat, @jRuutu, @tinafrombobsburgers, @Phil, @DollarAndADream , @Greg_Di, @leandrofg (also another go to gfx guy of mine), @jacobcarson877 and @Rhynex Entertainment (I am sure I forgot some people, in which case mea culpa). I appreciate @InstantRockstar another great graphics guy whose work I admire and which asked to work some of his magic on several occasions. I appreciate @Beketov (and the BOG as an entity) for all the hard work, most of which remains unnoticed by most of us. Also for his patience to explain me why it is a good thing to nerf the skaters in the wake of the hybrid attributes. I know I was emotional during the conversation we have had. Rest assured it was only for the passion I felt for my player and not as a critique in general on the process as such. I appreciate the interactions with @samx and @Shindigs for the friendly banter (be it whether hot or cold sandwiches are better or which team is more of a plague real life Vasteras or real life Davos). The answers are of course cold and Davos. There are so many wonderful people in this league and if I did not mention you does not mean you are not one of them. It means I am of a biblical age and my memory ran away with my youth.

  12. meh, what does he know about hockey? Jokes aside, I was not aware that he made this statements, thanks for pointing out that fact. He just gained respect in my books (not that there was a lack of any to start with)...
  13. Well advanced stats could be something like expected goals against vs real goals against... but yeah it is difficult... Normalisation has been a topic for quite a while in the NHL... by and large, the skill level in the NHL is the best it has ever been... depth players pulling off moves that 20 years ago only the creme de la creme were able to do and it is a legitimate question if a 20 year old Gretzky in today's NHL could achieve the same numbers he had 30-40 years ago. I think he would still be a star but not as ridonculously dominant as he has been in his prime when he had multiple 200+ point seasons... Also, Forsberg who played the majority of his prime in the dead puck era. Would he be able to score even more than he already did? Are goal scorer today who do not get 50 in 50 really worse than the players who managed to do so 60 or more years ago, when goalkeepers had no masks and played in t-shirt and swimming trunks and defender were pylons whose only job was fighting and checking (except Bobby Orr) (a little bit exaggerated, but you get the gist)? Was Gretzky really as good as he was made us believe? After all, since he left the star studded Oilers, he never was able to lift a team to the heights of a Stanley cup. Whereas Messier did so with the Rangers and Vancouver (and won some cups with the Oilers after Gretzky left)? By that metric alone one could argue (and would be wrong imo) that Oilers without Gretzky is a success, Gretzky without Oilers is a bust...
  14. Oh Baby don't hurt me no more... I cannot unhear Haddaways lyrics when a sentence starts with 'what is love'...

  18. 1. Sincerely hope so (especially during the playoffs) 2. Making the playoffs is all that matters, we need to be able to beat any playoff team anyway if we want to win the Founders Cup. 3. Absolutely. They are enthusiastic newcomers like Viperar of Veterans like Phil and ColeMrtz who are an asset to any team. 4. Because we get boned on a daily basis 5. I brought it to this locker room from Philly, so of course I 150% support it. 6. Yes, but do not watch the games so far. And Switzerland all the way.

  21. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) The Jansers were engaged in a further four games in the interim. Please find below our respective summaries. 2-3 In a game they had no business losing, the Iron Eagles did for once exactly that against Geneva in a close 3-2 defeat. All started well when Chang put Vasteras one ahead. Unfortunately for the Swedes this marker was promptly answered by Geneva with a brace of their own before the intermission. Fifty seconds after face-off, Retoslav on the power play scored the only goal of the period to tie the game. In the third Chicoine scored the sole marker. Not only was it the game winner, Bobby profited from a catastrophic line change by Vasteras during a power play and let Gaming in net no chance. The three stars were awarded to Chicoine (2g/0a), Price (46 saves) and Franklin (1g/1a). Gaming (.912) lost the high profile duel between the pipes to Price (.958), who kept his team in the game and stole this win. Vasteras' power play was a joke. Not only did they scored one bare goal out of nine opportunities, which is rather underwhelming on and in itself, they allowed to be scored against. Their box play ironically was immaculate (3/3). Marcel left the ice with a 0g, 1a, -1, 2 hits and 1 sb record. 5-3 Vasteras appears to save some energy for the post season, as they took another loss in a 5-3 derby against Stockholm. The Vikings scored early on a power play but Mathias and Vladovechsenkchushkin set the record straight before the first intermission. Elsby with the only goal in the second period extended Vasteras' lead. All good? No, not at all (at least from the Eagles' view). At 14:34 minutes into the third, when Vasteras must have believed that the game is already theirs, the Vikings pulled one back on a man advantage. But this is not enough. At 16:04, Bridgers was given an early shower for Spearing and Stockholm scored three goals on power play within 52 seconds in the last minute of the game (19:02 to 19:58 to be exact). It is safe to assume that Bridgers was not picturing this scenario, when their horoscope told them that they will 'make a big difference'. Duk (1g/2a), Vladovechsenkchushkin (1g/0a) and Mathias (1g/0a) were awarded the three stars for this match. It is note worthy that Stockholm scored all of their five goals in power play, on even strength this game goes 3-0 to Vasteras. Gaming still managed a .889 saving percentage against Parise's stellar .923. While the Eagles' box play has nothing to be proud of (6/11) neither did the power play anything this night to win the game (0/4). Marcel logged 0g, 2a, +2 and 4 PIM (Hooking and Interference, none of which lead to a goal against). Despite their temporary(?) slump, Vasteras is still leading the VHLE with the only three digit points counter. Even if they lost all games left in the regular season, they cannot be evicted anymore from the top spot. 3-4 (SO) In a hard fought battle the Wranglers had won the game against the London United. Lazeski with under a minute played scored a shorthander to bring Calgary one ahead. London responded shortly before the tea with a power play goal to tie the game. Beach was the only Albertan to find the twine in the second period against two goals from HM the Queen's best. In the third, Lazeski added a power play goal to his tally to equalize the game and bring it to overtime. The sudden death did not deserve its name in this instance as it was neither quick nor was any dagger delivered. So it was Fortuna's turn to choose a winner, and fickle as she is, she extened her favour to Calgary. It was once more point and locker room leader Kotkakoivu who somehow squeezed the puck past Pearce. Lazeski (2g/0a), Pete (0g/2a) and Ablar (1g/0a) were awarded the places of honour that evening. Dahl (.939) had a slight edge over Pearce (.936) in an epic showdown between the two last men of their teams. Calgary's power play was decent (2/7) and the penalty killing units did a good job keeping the puck out of the net most of the times (7/8). Daniel was credited with 0g, 2a, +0, 2 PIM (Holding, penalty successfully killed of by his team), 1 hit, 1sb and 67.44 FO%. 1-2 In a game which was mainly marked by offensive dominance from Calgary's and defensive excellence from Davos' DAVID's side, the former had to concede this 2-1 match to the latter. The Swiss took an early lead in the first which was preserved into the intermission. Kotkakoivu (who else?) tied the game in the second. Early in the third, the Spengler Cup host scored the a power play goal and was able to hold on to the tiniest of leads until the final horn sounded. Tsezar (41 saves), Kotkakoivu (1g/0a) and UHFD exchange player Teekirque (0g/2a) made the three stars. Dahl (.926) had the bitter end against Tsezar (.976) who certainly carried his team on his shoulders. The Wranglers' power play was inefficient (0/3) and also the box play did not perform upto standard (2/3). Daniel had 0g, 0a, -1, 2 PIM (Slashing, no negative effect on the score), 2 sb and 66.67 FO% Calgary are sure to get at least a Wild Card, but sit third of the conference at the moment, with a direct playoff qualification within their grasp. The Jansers' stats so far as follows: Marcel: 63gp, 12g, 31a, 43pts, +19, 101 PIM, 93 hits, 74sb, 4gwg, 7ppg Daniel: 64gp, 27g, 34a, 61pts, -11, 43 PIM, 132 hits, 125sb, 5gwg, 6ppg, 1sh, 55.41 FO% On a more important note, Phil 'The Rock' Johnson officially confirmed the rumours of his retirement at the end of the season. While no real surprise, looking at his long and illustrous career and the physical play he preferred, it still came as a shock to the Calgary community. One of their icons will not tie the skates for them the next season anymore. During the press conference it was evident, that it was an emotional moment for Phil as well and that the decision was not an easy one for him to make. It is obvious that a guy that has just pulverized his own personal goal record has still a lot of hockey in him. Questioned in that respect Phil said that he wanted to go out on his terms and in his prime rather than sticking around and fade out. He will not be lost to the hockey world though as he has taken his nephew Phil Strasmore under his wings and will manage him. He already placed the young defence prodigy within the tender but stern care of Kurt Janser with the Mississauga Hounds in the VHLM. Kurt is father to Calgary player/prospect Daniel and Marcel. Phil is convinced that his relative is in the best possible hands. The editors are of the firm opinion that Phil's jersey number 1 will find its way under the rafters sooner rather than later. On that bombshell, we bid goodbye for now to Phil 'the Rock' Johnson, the man, the myth, the legend.
