    4. We now have to increase our performance a little. Under no circumstances should we think that we have already won the title. Many a large team has stumbled over such things. For example, in Switzerland, a team gambled away a 3-0 lead in the final...
    5. I hope that I can massively reduce my penalties.

    1. Another ROUGH week of sims for us, as of this writing we are in DEAD LAST  in the standings! How is this affecting your morale? Are you still enjoying yourself in spite of the bad luck, or are you ready to execute @Minion and I?

Sometimes you lose, sometimes the others win. I am not worried about that.

    2. Congratulations! Halifax management has been officially executed under your personal orders, and YOU have been awarded the General Manager position in our place! What are some things you do now that you're in charge?

    I don't know, I don't know enough about that. I'm glad I don't have this tough job.

    3. Speaking of GMs doing things, we made quite a few trades in the last week! We said tearful goodbyes to Bobby Rockwell @Kairi , Ariane LeBlanc @Horcrux, Gavin Zininger @ScoreAGoalBudEh, and now Weenuk Warrior @KnightRiley. In return, we've been fortunate enough to welcome John your door @your door, Wumbo @Fire Vigneault, and assorted draft picks for the future @S83. How do you feel about your new teammates, and how would you welcome them to Halifax?

I'm sure the GM knows why he made the trades. I wish the lost players all the best and a warm welcome to the new ones.

    1. As of this writing, we are 12 games into the season and our team is off to a much rougher than expected start! What are some things the team or management can do to right this ship? Pun intended, obviously.

I think it will be fine, other teams will also weaken.

    2. As a team we're performing below expectations, but looking at your individual stats, how do you feel you're performing personally?

My record could be better, but I'm surprised to have so many score points. Preventing goals is actually more of my specialty.

    3. For those of you who are new to the VHL, how has your experience been in the first week or two so far? For those of you aren't new to the league, what WERE your first impressions of the league back in the day?

Last season was already interesting. Ottawa has remained a power, other teams have been disbanded. I think the change is good.

    4. Describe the type of player you are, or are striving to become!

A DDD. A disciplined defensive defender.

    5. Today I was (and probably still am) suffering from some kind of stomach flu/bug/food poisoning/maybe I'm dying. What are some things you like to do to make life a little easier on yourself on a sick day?

I watch series e.g. GOT, Supernatural, Justice League Unlimited etc ...
By the way, get well soon

    6. Do you watch/follow hockey in real life, and if so, who are your favourite teams and why? If not, then what sports (if any) do you prefer instead?

I am a fan of EV Zug, a Swiss ice hockey team and current champions.

I like the idea for itself. But I would change a few things. First, I would leave it with eight teams. Otherwise there are too many teams. And I would take Africa out too. Apart from South Africa I have never seen a team that plays ice hockey there. I would distribute the eight teams to the following countries. Australia (two teams) and New Zealand (In football, Australia has also been assigned to the Asian group, as they are otherwise under-challenged.) Plus Japan, South Korea (also two teams each) and Taiwan. What would you say about the following team names?
    Brisbane Bandits
    Canberra Cavaliers
    Wellington Rams
    Seoul Squits
    Busan Zombies
    Tokyo Drifters
    Sapporo Samurai
    Taipei Tigers

Morcar80 got a reaction from Daniel Janser in Games: 1-28
The new season in the VHLM has started, and we have already had a few surprises. First of all, the bad start of the Marauders, who lost practically their entire team last season. The Eastern Conference is currently led by the Ottawa Lynx, who have won all of their four games. One could expect the strength of the lynx, as they had the No. 1 draft pic with the player The Red Menace. In addition, some of the players from the previous year's team remained. The Mississouga Hounds played three times against the guys from Halifax. While the first game was clearly lost with 5 - 8, it got tighter in the second game and the Hounds only lost in the penalty shoot with 7 - 6. Mikhail Lospenov, otherwise a sure shooter, could not use his penalty. Then they played against the Philadelphia Reapers who had clearly lost their first two games with 3-11 and 6-2. Perhaps that was why the Reapers had been underestimated. In any case, the Hounds could only win in overtime. Mikhail Lospenov made up for his missed penalty in the last game, and giving the Reapers a sudden death. In the fourth game they played again against the guys from Halifax, who this time were easily dealt with 6-1. All in all a good start to the season for the Hounds, who, like the Miami Mauraders, have to rebuild their entire team. Speaking of them. The previous year's champion could unfortunately not win any of his games and also remained without points. The GM Ledge and Dairy has a lot of work ahead of them that nobody will envy them for. He has to build a full team and only has a few rookies available. We only wish him the best and hope that his team will play up there again. Halifax lost all of their next three games after a good start with two wins against Mississauga. However, the opponents were really strong with Ottawa, Minnesota and again Mississauga. At the moment they only occupy fourth place in the conference. The Reapers got off to a difficult start. The first game against Minnesota was lost 3-11. And even against a superior team from Ottawa there was nothing to be gained. Then there was a defeat against the Kings from Mexico City. Only against the Hounds from Mississouga was it possible to win at least the first point with a combative and defiant performance. The Texans from Houston were too strong again and there was a 6- 3 bankruptcy. But the Reapers are not to be underestimated. Perhaps the next game will break the knot.

Ice hockey was also played in the West. The Ace's are first there. No wonder, they definitely have the best goalie in the league right now in there goal. Yukon Rush follows immediately. A team that, like Ottawa, was able to massively strengthen itself in the drafts. Both teams, Las Vegas and Yukon have won all of their games. So we can look forward to the direct duel between the two teams. A little behind is Saskatoon Wild, which got off to a similar bad start as Miami. The Houston Bulls, on the other hand, got off to a good start because they want to quickly forget the last season in which they only scored 23 points. First they could beat the competition from Mexico twice with 7-3 and 6-4 in the first two games, but then they had no chance against a strong Yukon Rush twice. In the fifth game there was a clear 6-3 win against the Reapers from Philadelphia.
The Mexico City Kings, after the first two defeats, were able to increase and won against the Philadelphia Reapers with 8-5 and forced the Ace's from Las Vegas into overtime, where they lost, however. Then they defeated the Minnesota Storm and brought them their first defeat of this season. The Kings have shown that it is better not to underestimate them.
That leaves the San Diego Marlins. This team is difficult to assess. They have not yet played a game against a team from the Eastern Conference. There were two defeats against the top of the table from Las Vegas as well as against the second from Yukon. Against the bottom of the table, Saskatoon Wild, they were able to record two wins and were able to keep up with the midfield. It remains to be seen how they fare against the Mexico City Kings, for example.

All in all, a very exciting start. It remains to be seen who can still improve and who will run out of steam.

Ottawa Senators. These got off to a surprisingly good start.

    1) Has your player been meeting expectations this season?

I'm not completely satisfied with his defensive work yet. Block more shots and win more puck tackles.

    2) Is the lack of active players on our team upsetting at all to you?

It's a shame, of course, that we don't have any more active players. But that is something that you cannot force or influence. Other teams are also struggling with this problem.

    3) Are you happy with your current ice-time?

The player plays each game for almost 30 minutes. I cannot and may not ask for more. Otherwise one of his legs will fall off.

    4) If you could make one change to the VHLM, what would it be?

Spontaneously, I can't think of anything clever.

    5) Are you aiming to play in the VHLM, VHLE, or VHL next season?

Oh, I let myself be surprised. My goal has to be to get my player to 200 points. I hope I can spend more time farming points during my vacation.

    6) How has the management of the Hounds been this season?

I am sure the manager is doing his best to make the team better with all the means at his disposal and to bring it back to the front.

And to answer your question, I'm not as talented as some of our graphics specialists here who can change the colours of jerseys using photo editors. What I tend to do is find a team or jersey that is a similar colour to the player I'm doing's VHL team. For example, Justin Lose plays for the Riga Reign, who have an orange logo/jersey. So I chose Joel Farabee, a player for the Philly Flyers (orange jersey) for his render.

Morcar80 reacted to Daniel Janser in A Tale of two brothers // First games in the VHLM
    Swiss Central Gazzette

Our Canadian correspondent Jean-Luc Lieuxperroux accompanied our local icehockey exports for the last week to document how Marcel and Daniel fit into their new team.
On the evening of the first day of training camp, the Hounds organized a team building dinner, where the Canadian national dish was served: Poutine.
The brothers were asked after dinner what they thought of Poutine.
Daniel replied: ‘We were taught by our Dad to not waste food. That includes but is not limited to gravy. We were smiled at often by our class mates due to our habit to mop up the gravy with bread or fries’.
‘And if you take into consideration that as Swiss we have no hesitation whatsoever to put melted cheese on almost everything, you would understand why we like Poutine’, Marcel added.
Needless to say that this statement bought bonus points for the Rotkreuz natives, especially with their Canadian team mates Bedard and Slaney.
Time in the training camp flew by and it was before long, the brothers had the first opportunity to prove to their GM, that to draft them was no mistake.
The first game went 8-5 to Halifax though. Bad as it looks, the Hounds never gave up and even closed the gap when they countered three unanswered Halifax goals in the second period with three consecutive goals of their own. However, luck was not on their side this night and Halifax’ PPG at 14:26 into the third period sealed the deal. Daniel was involved in a textbook transition when he dug out the puck along the boards in his own defensive end and quickly released the pass to Bedard who then was on a two-on-one rush together with Lospenov. Bedard delayed his delivery to the last moment until all was left to do for the Russian is to tap the puck in. Four minutes later, Daniel scored himself after a highlight reel tape-to-tape pass relay and buried the puck in the five hole of 21st’s goalkeeper.
The three stars that night were claimed by Halifax players only. Bryn Yrwy (4g/2a), Jacob Richard (1g/4a) and Jorgen Von Strangle (1g/3a) stood deservedly in the lime light.
Mississsauge showed room for improvement on the special teams (1/6 PP and 3/4 PK), and we are confident that the Hounds number one is better than the .778 saving rate would lead you to believe.
Daniel made an appearance on the scoreboard before his younger sibling, with 1g/1a to his name. He had also a -2 rating
Marcel did not score this night but also had a -2 rating. He was shared top in minutes played (tied with his brother and Japanese defenseman Hall)
Neither brother spent any time in the sin bin.

In the second match, the Hounds lost to the same team again, but put up even more of a fight than in the previous game, as they only had to admit defeat after shoot out.
Marcel was on the scoreboard after 27 seconds into the game, when his shot from the blueline was deflected by his older brother in the first power play attempt. Unfortunately, 4 minutes later, they were scored against, while Halifax was on penalty kill duty.
Mississauga’s goalkeeper was very busy with 51 shots fired against him. He did better this time and outperformed his opposite number with .882 vs .806 of the shots saved
The game was tight for its entire run and neither team gave up. No goals were scored in OT and so it was for the shootout to decide this clash.
Daniel was the only Hound to score in the one-on-one, with a remarkably well executed in-between-the-leg-shot to dangle the puck top shelf.
Again, the brothers kept their noses clean and stayed away from the sin-bin.
Marcel had 0g/1a and neutral rating with 4 shots blocked (top of the team), Daniel had 1g/0a and also a ‘zero’ rating. He stayed on the ice the longest with 28:23 minutes played.
The Hounds power play was below average again (1/6, one short hander scored against them) while the penalty kill was acceptable, but with room for improvement (3/4).
The three stars of the night were Richard (2g/3a), Ywry (2g/2a) and Von Strangle (1/2) (yes, them again).
Former team mate at the Brigade Harry Hagel also was credited with 3 assists.

The third pairing was against the Philadelphia Reapers, which was won in OT 7-6.
It was a hard fought game which could have fallen either way, but with the better end for the Hounds this time.
Marcel scored two assists (one to his brother in PP) and served a minor for roughing (no goals were scored in the ensuing power play).
Daniel scored the aforementioned goal after a rebound. It was a so called ‘dirty’ goal, scored out of determination and persistence more than skill and finesse. Contrary to his younger sibling, he gave the sin-bin a wide berth.
Mikhail Lospenov was the top star of the night with two goals (one of which the game winning goal) and one assist. 2nd star was Hounds’ Defender with the number 2 (1g/1a) and third star Reapers’ Connor Wilson (2g/1a).
Again, the team from Mississauga had the better netminder between the posts (.0860 saving percentage) than the Pennsylvanian team (only .767).
Marcel had a +1 rating and 4 blocked shots (top of the team) while playing 25:52 minutes (second only to Bedard’s and Daniel’s 26:45 minutes).
Daniel was also noted with a +1 rating and has still a clean sheet in PIM.
The Hounds’ powerplay was better (1/4) while the penalty kill dropped a bit (4/6).

In the fourth match the Hounds faced Halifax 21st for a rematch, which they won by a landslide 6-1.
Halifax never had a glimpse of a chance to win this game, as the Hounds lead 4-0 after the first period. From there on in it was smooth sailing, at least on the score board. On the ice the team from Nova Scotia never gave up and it was hard work for the Mississaugans to keep the opposing team from scoring. This was demonstrated with Daniel taking the first penalty this season for hooking.
After 5:16 minutes the Swiss Hitmen displayed their passing skills on a tic-tac-toe play, which left Bedard with no other choice but to score on a wide open net. In the same period the brothers scored one assist each, Daniel had the 2nd assist on his ‘frère cadet’s 4-0.
This time the Hounds were hogging the lime light with Bedard (2g/2a), Lospenov (1g/2a) and Marcel Janser (1g/2a).
Marcel went 1g/2a, +3 and 24:48 minutes plaid (shared first with Bedard and Hall)
Daniel had 0g/2a, +3 and 4 hits (tied first with 3 others) and of course the 2 minutes in the sin-bin.
In this match, the lack luster power play (1/6) remained without consequences, but the coaching staff is well advised to address this in the coming weeks. Penalty kill on the other hand was impeccable with 100% of the penalties killed (1/1).
The Hounds’ goalkeeper showed his best performance so far and was noted with a .955 save percentage.
Here below the Janser’s stats so far:

    Daniel:  4 games, 3g, 3a, 6pts, +2, 2pim, 9 hits, 1 shot blocked, 2 ppg
    Marcel  4 games, 1g, 5a, 6pts, +2, 2pim, 3 hits, 9 shots blocked, 0 ppg

Daniel is one of the league’s top snipers with 27.27% of his attempts finding the back of the net.

Morcar80 got a reaction from Viper in Ideas for a New VLH League

Morcar80 got a reaction from diacope in Games: 1-28

Morcar80 got a reaction from Spartan in Marcel Jansers Junior Review
Marcel was born in Rotkreuz, Switzerland. At birth he was 37 inches tall and weighed 13.5 pounds. So I had to go to school immediately. There he found his love for sport. First he tried ping pong, tennis, golf and darts. But somehow something was missing. He missed the social component. So he tried team sports. First he tried floorball as the local team was successful. But when his brother Daniel started playing ice hockey, he wanted to try it too. First he took lessons in ice skating. There are still videotapes of it. But you should refrain from publishing them or uploading them somewhere on the Internet ... So Marcel started to train with his brother for the local ice hockey team. It soon turned out that Marcel was not as quick and accurate as his brother. But there were more defensive skills. Since it is smaller but heavier than its brother, it was shaped like a cube or a wall. Marcel himself always joked that he was as hard as a wall but not nearly as flexible. But his actual nickname among the juniors was "the comedian" because of his witty manner and dirty jokes. Marcel still seems a bit stiff at the hips and his stony hands will probably never make him the top scorer, but as a defensive defender, that is not his No. 1 task either. His number among the juniors was 00, as that was roughly the scorer points that were to be expected. His role model on his favorite team is Dominik Schlumpf. But unfortunately there was no place for Marcel on this team. They put more emphasis on speed and brilliant scorers than on good and hard defensive work. So he played one season in the lower leagues, where he was able to block in the shot and prevent goals. The opponents from Basel, Arosa, Martigny and Chur, all old and renowned teams, kept an eye on him. But Marcel wanted to play ice hockey professionally and so he tries abroad.

In his private life, Marcel is actually a very sociable guy. He likes video games, going to the movies and sometimes a boring looking board game night. He is also an enthusiastic hobby cook. With pasta in particular, he has often been able to cook for his former team so that they get the carbohydrates they need. The coaches will be happy that he doesn't often go to parties to celebrate (except for championship celebrations, of course). He practically does not drink and has never smoked. Not that he didn't want it back then, but it was simply too expensive. And now on the other side of the Atlantic, he's simply too young to get beer. Although you can hardly call it beer, which Americans have to grapple with. So now he has come to Canada, the country that invented ice hockey and probably lives like no other. The land of Wayne Gretzky, Guy Lafleur and Marley Brinx. Here he wants to relaunch his still young career and, like thousands of players, he hopes for a professional contract. His biggest dream would be to play for the Swiss national team one day.

Morcar80 reacted to Daniel Janser in A Story of two Brothers // Games 11 and 12 review in the 'Swiss Central Gazette'
    Swiss Central Gazette

When we last wrote about our local heroes abroad, we unfortunately had to report three consecutive defeats of their team the Brigade.

It seems now that the coach as well as the team's captain Daniel Janser have found a way to get the spectre of a losing mentality out of the Bridage's heads.

As we hinted in our previous articles, it only took some fine tuning from the coaching staff for the Brigade to find a way back to winning games again.

The first match against Steel was won 5-4 and it is comforting that now Fortuna has shown her pretty face to the Brigade as a tight game could be swung into the right direction.

Marcel demonstrated again his passing skills and scored two assists, one of them for Nayt Bedard's game winning goal at the end of the third period. Do we really need to mention at this point that he was a tied first in shots blocked (3)? He was also the busiest player of the team with 32:06 minutes played. Where does he take the energy to clock so many minutes every night and getting hit by pucks as often as he does? He must have a spare lung and he reminds us of the former Swiss national football player Ludovic 'the lung' Magnin, who showed similar endurance during his career.

Daniel focused on the defensive side of his game and did not make an appearance on the scoreboard.  The brothers shared a 'Hanson moment' when they 'Sandwich-checked' Harkat Mulds, just as he was about to wind up for a slapshot from the dangerzone, potentially scoring the lead. Needless to say, that he not only lost his breath as well as his balance but also the puck. Same was sucked up by Marcel, who delivered it to without any further ado to Nayt Berard, which lead to the aforementioned game winner.

The 'Swiss Hitmen' did not take any penalties in this game and had a +2 (Marcel) and a +1 (Daniel) rating respectively.

The three stars that evening were entirely in the Brigade's hands with 1st Nikolai Kopeloi (2g/1a), 2nd Nayt Berard (2g/1a) and 3rd Marcel Janser (0g/2a).

Mike Hroch had a very good game with a .911 saving percentage. We wish to mention at this point that hte Brigade's netminder is the second-best in the league, only bested by The Red Menace, who is much more experienced. if this newspaper sounds at times critical of Hroch's performances, then this is owed to the yet untapped potential and talent of this young player has displayed occasionally which let us sometimes forget that especially goalkeepers need time to spread their wings.

In the rematch, the Brigade was in full control of the game from the start. The team had a field day with the not enviable Thomas Price, who was replaced by his backup Wiley Blanchette, after the former allowed 4 goals on only 9 shots after 17:11 minutes played.

Austin Towbaker had the best match sofar with 4 goals to his name. Marcel and Daniel had two assists each and no penalties.

Marcel once again had the most time on ice with 31:51 but had a rather lazy day when it comes to blocked shots (2). He also sported a +4 ratint (top of the team) and beat his older brother by one in that category.

Mike Hroch was not able to repeat his stellar performance of the previous match and reported a .875 saving rate, which this evening was enough to beat the opponent.

The three stars were 1st Austin Towbaker (4g/0a), 2nd Wattson Power (1g/2a) and Brendan Marner (0g/3a).

At this stage of the season, the Brigade has the second best goalkeeper of the league with an .889 save percentage and the two best goalscorer Karjalainen (14) and Towbaker (13). With M. Janser and Marner they have two of the best passers (16 and 15 assists) respectively while Towbaker and Bedard are two of the deadliest snipers around (with 16.25% and 15.79% shot efficiency).

    D. Janser and Marner are amongst the best defensive forward in the league with a +9/+8 rating respectively.

Karjalainen wins the most face-offs in the league.  D. Janser is one of the highest scoring right wings (4g/8a) in the league despite playing on the 'wrong' side.

Towbaker is top of the bunch for having scored at least one goal for the last 5 matches and having scored at least one point for the last 9 matches.

All the above leads us to believe that there is a lot of talent and potential in the ragtag team and we hope they can win even more games with the newly found confidence in their abilities.

    Stay tuned for further updates...
