nurx got a reaction from sadie in Farewell
During the last season or so I have begun to dislike logging onto the forum itself. It feels like a job that I am forced to do compared to the fun thing it once was. I no longer enjoy the league but have grown to dread having to be available. I also am going through a major shift as the warmer months begin and I will no longer be available as much as I once was. Therefore, I will be stepping down as GM of the Miami Marauders effective at the end of Miami's season. I hope that the replacement for the team would be kind enough to keep me on the team as I do continue to want to be part of the team, but realistically if I continue as I have I will burn out and never want to log into the forum again. Thank you.

I find it interesting how you are explaining a similar situation to the boom-bust cycle of yesteryear. I think the final part is new members don't know what teams are active or what GMs are active. Instead that are forced to pick between the 3 archetypes I originally noted.

I know, I know it is a long title, but what else could I say? The VHLM allows new members and recreates to join teams at their own will. In my mind this creates two types of team the teams that get waiver players often and the teams that get them rarely. You can really see what type of team you are just by looking at the transaction history for the season. Halifax, Miami, and Mexico City are good examples of teams that do not get many waiver players. While Las Vegas and Houston are good examples of teams that do. I believe there are a few reasons for this and I will go into them in more depth, but I will let you know that my recommendation for fixing the issue is simply removing players ability to choose where they go in the M.

First of all, let's go over the types of players I believe there are when they are looking at joining teams.

    1. The Brand Man: This member looks at a name and logo and loves it. I was one of these players and saw Miami's logo and joined simply because it was my favorite.

    2. The Contender Only: This member wants to win cups. There is nothing wrong with that and therefore they will gravitate towards the best teams in the league.

    3. The Minutes Hoarder: This member wants to get as many minutes as possible and doesn't care as much as the other two things.

I do believe that nobody is just one, which leads to a 2nd or 3rd place team gathering players who are going for contenders. However, this leads to teams not being able to control one of the bigger factors. Their brand. You can't control if players like the logo or name of your team it is as simple as that. You can control the minutes or the contending more, but if you are 4th place to 8th place you are SOL. I personally believe that the Miami brand is really good, but because of my goal of never missing playoffs. I don't get many waiver picks ever. I leave a draft and I expect that I will get one or two players max. At first, I believed this is how everyone operated until I looked at other teams deeper.

I understand that the VHLM is a developmental league first, but when it comes to certain rules it doesn't feel like that is the goal. We allow teams to trade draft picks in order to compete, but block them from doing it too much. We get messages from the commies saying we are allowed to try and compete, but we are also told it is developmental only. Why are we sitting in the middle? Why not just go full developmental? We sit stuck in a situation that leads GMs to answer differently to the question, "Should teams have bad seasons to compete?" There is no reason for this.

My proposal is this, either go full development and ban draft pick trading completely or stop this sham of allowing teams to compete while having a waiver system that unfairly hinders specific teams. I have heard arguments that when GMs are more active in the league they get more waiver signings, but why would that make sense? Maybe recreates, but it would not effect new members. Do you honestly believe that new members are going and asking random members in the community who they believe is the best GM? No they are not.

Anyways, this has been a wildly unhinged and frankly senseless argument, but I have talked to other GMs in the league and have found similar beliefs. I'd just like that we allow a conversation to occur that has input from everyone including the newest members to the league so we can understand where they are coming from. None of us involved in M GM management have joined the league recently so we are simply out of touch.

Hello and welcome to the S88 ASG and Skills competition held in Halifax. I would like to congratulate and welcome all of the players who were invited to play in this season's All-Star Game. Tonight we will have five skill competitions allowing every player to compete in one of them. These competitions will be the Fastest Skater Competition, Passing Challenge, Puck Handling Challenge, Hardest Shot Competition, and the Save Streak Challenge. Without further delay, let's get right into the skills competition followed by the two All-Star Games.

    Fastest Skater

The Fastest Skater Competition will allow every competitor one lap around the entire rink. The player with the fastest time will be named the winner. The competitors for the Fastest Skater Competition are Dank Turtle @DankTurtle, Otis Boudreaux Jr @Otis Boudreaux Jr, Tord Yvel @Trazan, Celise Pereira @asteria, Pope Francis @nurx

     Passing Challenge

The Passing Challenge will involve the player passing toward 6 different small targets scattered across the offensive zone. The player will sit at the middle dot and have unlimited chances to hit all 6 targets. The competitors for the Passing Challenge are Viktor Jensen @Advantage, Marty Byrd @Marty B, Leo Lewkowicz @BeanSobie, Lasse Zeigler @jaypc8237, and Robert Boldy @The Goblin

    Puck Handling Challenge

The Puck Handling Challenge will involve the player moving through a variety of obstacles the player with the fastest time through the challenge will be crowned the champion. The competitors for the Puck Handling Challenge are Carson Walker Jr @Cwalker, BK Whopper @Cyrxlian, Trey Jones @Slick, Reginald the Dodo @Esso2264 , Eric Queefson @twists.

    Hardest Shot Competition

The Hardest Shot Competition will consist of all players taking turns shooting 3 shots. The player who shoots the puck hardest into the back of the net will be crowned the Hardest Shot Champion. The competitors for the Hardest Shot Competition are Montgomery Burns @LastOneUp, Sjin @Mint, Tullemore Dew @Spade18, Sergei Romanov @WithARevelYell, Fradin McGryer @Fradin99.

    Save Streak Competition

The Save Streak Competition will have each goalie have a chance to face shooters from the opposite conference. During the first six shots, if the goalie gets scored on they will get more chances. If they get scored on their 7th chance or later, their attempt will end. The competitors for the Save Streak Competition are Olivier Gauthier @fonziGG, Ross Glagau @Zetterberg, Jonny Elgar @Jonny, Boolie Buchholz @Jacob buchholz.

It is now time for us to move on to the games. Some interesting storylines to watch as we go into these games are as follows.

    1. The top scorer of the league Tullemore Dew is looking to add more points to his belt in these unofficial games as he plays for the Eastern Conference.
    2. Mississauga looks to show their strength defensively as we expect the Eastern Conference to play the two Hounds D-men on the same pairing.
    3. The Western Conference showing it can score goals as well. The Western Conference has been struggling offensively in terms of scoring leaders as all of the Western Conference teams have been more team focused rather than star focused. This could lead to struggles in scoring and the Western Conference All-Stars are hoping to show the league that they are just as capable of scoring goals as their Eastern Conference competitions.
    4. Pope Francis shot-blocking. Pope Francis has a very comfortable lead in shot blocks, but Halifax also has more shot attempts against them than most teams in the league. That including the Pope plays more minutes than the average D-man leads to the possibility that he simply is getting in the way of shots at an average rate if he were playing for a team that was better defensively.

Without further delay, let's get right into the games!

Welcome @twists I hope you can find your way around the league. If you have any questions you can ask any GM. I hear Stockholm's GM is very helpful!

honestly don't really know what happened I was legitimately confused when I was asked why I released an active player. I was actually more confused how I hasn't gotten in trouble for having an IA player. I believed that the player hadn't updated for a ridiculous amount if time like almost a month an a half. I don't know if during the time looking at it if I believed it was May or if I simply was looking at the update log incorrectly. I was actually fairly upset however considering how the player was in the forums every week and look at my messages but wouldn't update. On Friday, I sent a message to the user explaining to them the IA rule and how I was upset I was going to have to drop them the coming week. Then come Monday night when I was going through my team I didn't see an update for that week or just simply didn't look. I released the player while talking to bobo. During this time bobo was already talking to me about how he was thinking about recreating because he wanted a new start now that he believes he will be more active following a busy time in his life. I said oh you should be a goalie now that there is a need for it league wide. I also remembered that we didn't have a goalie anymore so I suggested he just sign with Miami. He did so and I went about my night.

Again I don't really understand how this happened or what was going on in my mind. It kind of has put me in a position of thinking more clearing of what I am doing as a GM in the M and why I am here. I hope that I can move on from this unfortunate event and continue what I believe has been an otherwise very successful tenure in Miami.

That sounds like an honest mistake, I doubt many GM's would purposefully release an active player. This is a learning experience for all GM's and I'm sure it'll happen less from now on. From what I'm aware you're a good GM so don't let something this small discourage you.
