    PRESS CONFERENCE

    Answer all 6 for 2 TPE, 3 for 1!

    1. What is your player doing to keep busy during our extended offseason?

Lachlan is going to be brushing up on his baking skills! You name it, he can probably make it.

    2. What is your goal for S86?

My goal for S86 is to make a difference for the E team that I get drafted to and show that I can make an impact on gameday.

    3. If you could live the life of one animal, what would it be and why?

I’d say I’d be a falcon because they’re one of the fastest birds in the world and have incredible vision to easily catch food. Top of the food chain, as well. Can’t go wrong with that.

    4. What is your favourite element on the periodic table?

My favorite element on the periodic table has to be gallium because I think it’s so fascinating that a metal can maintain both a solid and liquified state.

    5. What is the inspiration behind your username?

Somebody edited Kirby Dach’s name on Wikipedia to ‘Kirbithan Dach,’ (a mashup between the names Kirby and Jonathan) and I thought it was hilarious. Thus, the online Kirbithan/Kirby moniker was born.

    6. If you were to add an statistic to STHS, what would it be? (God please grant me giveaways and takeaways)

I also agree that giveaways and takeaways should be a stat added to STHS! Would be so cool.

The San Diego Marlins were able to take the Las Vegas Aces to six games in a valiant effort to oust the reigning champs, but fell just short. However, that’s nothing to be ashamed of— many counted the Marlins out before the series even started, predicting they’d be swept and thrown aside.

“I still shoulda been better in those last two games, y’know? Maybe things would’ve been different.” Lachlan’s expression was unreadable, his eye twitching. Multiple microphones and cameras were shoved in his face as he stood at his locker during cleanout day. “That being said, the team still played their hearts out. Our squad wasn’t as deep as Vegas’ and we still put up a hell of a fight.”

When asked what was next for him, he pondered the thought for a moment. “San Diego’s been my home for two seasons now and I appreciate everything the Marlins organization and the city has done for me and my family. I hope they feel the same way about me. Now it’s time to recharge and get ready for the VHL and VHLE drafts— make a good impression on these general managers.”

“Are you nervous about that, Lachlan?”

    “Do I look nervous?”

WHO WANTS SOME SWEET SWEET TPE??

    Answer 3 for 2 or all 6 for 3!

    1. With the Marlins being knocked out of the playoffs (sad), the final 4 includes Miami, Mexico, Philly and Las Vegas. Who do you think has the best shot at a championship?

Vegas are the definite favorites. I’m super proud of us for the fact that we took them to six games, though! Showed we could keep up with the big boys.

    2. The Junior Showcase Tournament is about to begin. What do you think is the most important aspect to showcase for the GMs looking to draft you?

I think the most important aspect is locker room activity and how you can contribute to a positive, healthy environment for everyone. As well as showing that you’re active on both the forums and Discord!

    3. What are you dressing up as for halloween? Or, what was your favourite halloween costume you once wore?
I’m gonna be Joe Burrow for Halloween— aka just wear his jersey and put on some tiger ears.

    4. If you could have a second player, would you want them to play on the same or a different team than your current player?

I would want my players to be on the same team so I can be helping out two times as much!

    5. What was the coolest thing you saw on the forum in the past week?

The coolest thing I saw on the forum was the final roster announcements for each of the JST teams.

    6. If you were commissioner for the day, what would your first change be?

As commissioner, I would allow members to have the option to have one player on offense and one player on defense like in EFL.

  4. Review: I love how simple yet eye-catching this graphic is! Fantastic job on the background— the textures were used effectively to emphasize the Team Steel name, but don't take away from the focal point either. Solid job on the color/logo swap on the uniform as well! The only little nitpick I have is that I think you should have only have the player's name written once, and get rid of the one in the bottom right corner, since viewers' eyes will be more drawn to the text above the player's head. Overall, I love this graphic. Amazing job, Masu! GO STEEL! Rating: (9/10)

  5. This season, the prestigious Junior Showcase Tournament announced that there would be a change in eligibility for its players. Instead of allowing only players who were not VHLM-drafted yet, it would expand to those who have not been VHL-drafted. This meant that all S86 and S87 players could participate.

Lachlan Summers, John Richards, and Sadie St-Louis— also known as the Legendary Trio— were ecstatic that they had the chance to play in the tournament once more, as they all expressed a desire to take part again by the conclusion of the S84 JST.

The draft was underway a mere few days later and at 4th overall, Lachlan was selected by the Steel. Afterwards, the friends sat in wait, wondering if they’d get a chance to reunite once more. At 15th overall, Sadie was selected by the Royals. Then soon after, at the 22nd pick, John was also drafted by the Royals.

The trio was dumbfounded and weren't sure how the two of them were always guaranteed to end up on the same team while one was left out. This has already happened on numerous occasions:

    - During the S84 JST, John and Sadie were both drafted to the Brigade and Lachlan went to Team Clue, but at the expansion draft— John and Lachlan were selected by the Pickles

    - At the Pro Am, Sadie and Lachlan were both members of the Arctic Ground Squirrels while John played for the Atlantic City Angus

    - Then came the S85 VHLM dispersal draft, and Lachlan returned to the San Diego Marlins, meanwhile John and Sadie were reunited on the Ottawa Lynx

Was this a sequence of mere coincidences or conspiracy? Perhaps we’ll never know, but maybe the trio’s fate will change at the S86 VHL and VHLE drafts.

    PLAYER NAME: LACHLAN SUMMERS

    POSITION: GOALTENDER

    HEIGHT: 6'1"

    WEIGHT: 174 LBS.

    AGE: 20

    BIRTHPLACE: BRISBANE, QLD, AUSTRALIA

VHLM TEAM: (S84-S85) SAN DIEGO MARLINS,

    DRAFTED 6TH OVR

VHL DRAFT STATUS: ELIGIBLE FOR S86

Lachlan Summers hails from the land down under, taking his talents to the San Diego Marlins of the VHLM near the end of the S84 season. After splitting games with Alexander Minion, Lachlan finished the season with 8 games played— 2-5-0 record with a below average .884 SV% and a 3.46 GAA. Although he didn’t have spectacular numbers, his presence in the locker room and work ethic caught the eye of quite a few VHLM GMs prior to the S85 dispersal draft.

The netminder— who bears a striking resemblance to Jordan Binnington— was drafted 6th overall, bringing him back to the Marlins organization for a second season. This pick was a shock to many, but San Diego’s general manager Jacob Carson was confident in his goaltender and a sense of familiarity led up to the decision to take Lachlan this early.

The Aussie would go on to prove any doubters wrong, becoming a cornerstone to the S85 Marlins team that began the season with four players. As we approach the end of the season, he has started all 68 games for the Marlins with a record of 32-28-8. He boasts a .914 SV % along with a 2.59 GAA and 4 shutouts (one of which, was against the first place Las Vegas Aces).

Prior to his arrival in the VHLM, Lachlan was a talent who flew under the radar, playing in the AIHL back home in Australia. Now he is one of the top goalie prospects in this season’s draft despite the overloaded goaltender class. What does Lachlan bring to the table?

    PROS

HAND SPEED - Hand speed is one of the most important traits in a goaltender as the glove is a crucial part of their equipment. Lachlan takes great pride in how quickly he can swing his glove to make a spectacular save and cover the puck. A versatile and mobile goaltender— Lachlan has spent a majority of his time testing different techniques with his glove in order to secure any pucks that are shot in his direction with relative ease. His husband Frankie was a former QMJHLer, so Lachlan’s able to get reps in during the off-season with his help.

REACTION TIME - Many coaches and teammates have described him as a “robot” or “android” out on the ice. Lachlan is locked in whenever he is between the pipes, eyes tracking the movement of the puck and reading plays that enter his zone, whether it be a breakaway or even a 3-on-1. Accompanied with his hand speed, his ability to make swift moves on big plays and unexpected bounces allows him to gain the edge on opponents and rob them of surefire goals. This is something he plans to work on his entire career until no more refinement can be attained.

    CONS

SIZE - Lachlan stands at 6’1,” which is slightly shorter than average for a goaltender— but where he truly lacks is in weight. He has always been a naturally lanky person and has attempted to gain more muscle on multiple occasions to no avail, weighing in at 174 pounds. He uses up a lot of his energy sliding from post-to-post to cover as much net as possible since he doesn’t have a natural size advantage at his disposal. Unfortunately, size isn’t something he can magically fix, but he can improve the technicalities that allow him to overcome it.

STYLE CONTROL - Even though Lachlan’s hand speed and reaction time are impressive, he struggles with maintaining his consistency throughout the course of the game at times. On a few occasions during the season, he found himself allowing multiple goals in the third period after what looked like a competitive contest. This led to those respective games becoming blown wide open, especially when the opposing team was tacking many shots on goal. He has acknowledged this issue and is working on managing his style of play in an alternative manner that allows him to be far more consistent in net and avoid these collapses.

WHO WANTS SOME SWEET SWEET TPE??

    Answer 3 for 2 or all 6 for 3!

    1. The season is almost over. How are you feeling as we round the bend into the playoffs?

I feel like we’re a dark horse in these playoffs and could really surprise people. We have a great crew and I believe we can put up a fight against these other teams.

    2. What color is your players hair?

    Lachlan’s hair color is brown!

    3. What do you think your player's biggest improvement has been since the start of the season?

As a goalie, it is definitely the improvement in save percentage.

    4. How do you think your GM and AGM have done this season?

I think you guys have done AMAZING. Answering questions, keeping everyone engaged, letting us know what’s going on around the league. . . you have done it all. Thank you for your hard work!

    5. Do you have any suggestions on how your GM or AGM could improve the locker room?

Honestly I think the LR is super inviting and fun already. I can’t think of much I would change about it.

    6. If you could steal one thing in the entire world and never get caught, what would you steal?

I would steal the Stanley Cup.
