  2. It seems like it's been a really long time since I've been active in the VHL. I think it feels longer than it actually has, but my last decent player was Samuel Gate, who retired after winning his only three awards in S66. I had gone inactive with him, however, and I actually retired him in his sixth season at 610 TPE to create Justin Rushmore, who went nowhere. I made another attempt at a comeback a few seasons later with Izzy Valencia, who also never saw the VHL. The two of them combined for less TPE than any other player I've had in the VHL. I have no idea right now if Taylor Mourning will be a different story. I had been pretty active in the PBE for about a year. It was not long after I created Izzy Valencia that I got into the PBE, and I put my time into that league instead of the VHL. I'm much more of a baseball fan than hockey, but my history with the VHL just keeps drawing me back here. So here I am to give it another shot. Quick note on my player name. Truthfully, I wish I hadn't wasted the name Justin Rushmore on a scrub, but I don't want to re-use a name even if he never made it to the VHL. Inspiration for the name Taylor Mourning comes directly from Taylor Swift and Alkaline Trio (specifically their album Good Mourning). It's far from my most inspired name, but it's largely a callback to the latter half of 2016 when I listened to a lot of Taylor Swift and Alkaline Trio. As a bonus, though not that it had much to do with that decision, that time was around when Diana Maxwell (my best player) was beginning her career.

  4. I'm not gonna bother reading this, but dude it's crazy that you're still a GM here. And it looks like the Bears have been better since I was last really around, so good job with that.
  5. If this offer is still on the table, I would like to join. #KingsoftheWorld
  6. Do I qualify for first gen status? Technically Izzy Valencia wasn't retired but he hadn't played a game since S72. Would be better than the 5 carryover TPE he gets me. @Beketov @Quik

  8. 1. We got a pretty decent record of 10-1-1, how does that feel? Feels great. I wasn't expecting us to start off this strong, and it's a long season so we could definitely lose the lead we have right now. 2. What's the latest you've stayed up? I've gone to work on 24 hours of no sleep, so at least like 33 or 34 hours. 3. Earliest you've gone to bed? I have no idea. I mean, do naps count? I've fallen asleep for like 5 hours in the afternoon before. But I work nights now, so I've gone to sleep at like 9 am a couple hours after getting home before. 4. What's your favourite genre of music? Pop/punk/alternative rock. My three favorite bands are Motion City Soundtrack, Alkaline Trio, and Billy Talent. 5. How do you think professional sports will continue in the future? Long term, I don't really see things changing. As far as this year goes, I think the NHL and NBA are probably not going to see playoffs this year. Possibility for a shortened MLB season though; I'm hopeful for that. 6. Would you ever change positions in the future? I mean, I'll play left wing instead of right wing. I suppose I could be convinced to play center, but it'd be a detriment for my team because I'm not going to work on faceoffs. Not going to switch to defenseman though.
  9. The Ottawa Lynx are atop the VHLM standings, and have been since the season started. They started 8-0 before being dealt their first loss, a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Reapers. Just a few games later, they dropped an overtime game to the defending champion Minnesota Storm. They have not lost since then; they currently have a 14-1-1 record, putting them three points ahead of the second-place Las Vegas Aces. Ottawa has also played one fewer game thus far than most other teams. Leading the way for the Lynx are Adam Syreck and Richard Penisson, who are the top two point scorers in the VHLM. Penisson is the goals leader at 21, while Syreck leads in assists with 31. Their linemate Big Chungus is also performing well, with 14 goals and 32 points. Goaltender Joakim Bruden is also contributing to the victories, with a league-leading .897 save percentage. Coming into the season, he looked like the best player on the team, and while he has certainly performed, it has been the offense that has stolen the show. The Lynx have a relatively easy stretch of games coming up, with some difficult teams being peppered in here and there. Of the next 12, eight are against the bottom four teams in the league, all of whom are clearly at least a tier below the rest.

  11. 1. What's your favourite game show? If Survivor is considered a game show, then that. Otherwise probably Jeopardy. I don't really watch game shows much anymore. 2. What's the worst show or movie you've seen? The Room definitely comes to mind, but that's a "so bad it's funny" movie. 3. What's your favourite kind of weather? If I'm indoors, I like thunderstorms. Heavy winds are nice too; one of my favorite sounds is the wind whistling. If I'm going to be doing something outside, a temperature around 65-70 F with a light breeze. And put the sun behind some clouds, but the sky should be mostly clear. Maybe a little cooler than that if I'm going for a long run. 4. Do you think another team can be added to the league? I think it's probably good where it is at the moment. 5. If you could go anywhere in the world where would you choice? My friend's house, to play board games. 6. How has your quarantine been? My life has pretty much not changed. I'm "essential," so I still go to work, and I already spent most of my time at home anyway.
  12. The VHLM season has just begun, and for Ottawa, it has gone well. The last remaining undefeated team, the 4-0 Lynx are coming off a season in which they lost in the finals. On paper, their team does not look the best; they certainly aren't the worst, but they have some holes that could be filled. Given that, their strong start could prompt management to make a move to elevate the team's game even further. Four games is of course not a great sample size to rely on, and two of those wins were against weaker teams. The biggest story here is really their two wins against last season's champions, the Minnesota Storm. Minnesota won the Founder's Cup in six games last season, with an overall playoff record of 12-2; Ottawa was the only team to give them a post-season loss. Both the Storm and the Lynx have lost some of their top players, of course; but the Storm had six of the top 19 picks of the S71 VHLM Dispersal Draft. Minnesota was looking like a team that could repeat, while Ottawa had the make-up of a good-- not great-- team. The first meeting between the teams was Game 13 in Ottawa. Richard Penisson was the star of the show, scoring four goals for the Lynx in their 4-3 victory. Penisson, who had 28 goals and 51 points last season, has been one of the early leaders for the Lynx. Their best player, though, has easily been Adam Syreck, who had 68 points a year ago. Not only did he assist on all four of Penisson's goals in their first game against Minnesota, but he also scored two of his own and added two more assists in their second match. Down 3-4 late in Game 22, Syrex scored the tying goal that sent it to overtime. The game went to a shootout, where Penisson and Syreck scored the only goals. Syreck scored or assisted on every goal the Lynx have gotten against Minnesota this season, aside from Penisson's shootout goal.
