  1. The Ottawa Lynx started off their playoff series against the Mississauga Hounds with three wins, but failed to complete the sweep as they lost 4-2 in Game 4. For one member of the Lynx, however, the game was special. The newest member of the team, Justin Rushmore, scored the first goal of his young career. When asked about it, he had this to say. "It's cool getting the first one out of the way and all, but it's honestly not that special to me. Not to mention the fact that it came in a loss, so I can't even really be all that happy about it. The Hounds are a good team, so even though we are up in the series, it's not over. I know you're obviously going to ask me about it, I get that. But really, this isn't my time. Yeah, I'm on the team, and I'm playing, and I want to win just like everyone else here; but this isn't my time. I'll do all I can to help my teammates win, but I'm kind of just along for the ride in the playoffs."
  2. Every series of the VHLM playoffs began with a 3-0 lead for the higher seed, with most of those games not being particularly close. Through those first 12 games, there were four games won by five or more goals. For the most part, the bottom seeds of the playoffs aren't bad teams, so the lopsidedness of the opening round wasn't necessarily expected to be this bad. In total, the winning teams won by an average of 3.4 goals. Yes, the higher seeds were all clear favorites, with even the 4 vs 5 match-up pitting the 105-point Wild against the 89-point Kings, whose goal differentials for the season were 84 and 15, respectively; but coming this close to four sweeps? The Reapers and 21st did their parts in moving the playoffs along as quickly as possible, sending the Storm and Marlins home for the off-season. Mexico City and Mississauga, however, were not ready to stop playing just yet. The Kings were taking on the Wild, the team they struggled most against during the regular season. The first three games of the series would see that trend continue, with Saskatoon scoring 20 goals to Mexico City's six. Mexico's Henrik Zoiderberg carried the team in Game 4, however, putting an end to Saskatoon's hopes of a sweep. In the middle of the first period, the Kings jumped out to a 3-0 lead in just over a three minute span. They ended up winning the game 4-2, with Zoiderberg scoring once and assisting on the other three goals. Wrike Chernobyl gave the offense a good chance to win the game, stopping 36 of the 38 shots he faced. Worth noting, the vastly inferior MEXI G started in net for the Kings in Games 1 and 2, though Chernobyl did allow six goals in his Game 3 loss. As the series goes back to Saskatoon, it's likely that the Kings have merely delayed the inevitable. While nothing is impossible, the dominance that the Wild displayed over the Kings throughout the regular season and the first three games of the playoffs make it hard to believe the series will even reach a Game 7. The closest of the match-ups going into the playoffs was arguably Ottawa vs Mississauga, with the seven regular season games having been split 4 to 3 in Ottawa's advantage. Although the series started out with the Lynx winning the first three contests, the Hounds at least kept two of them close (a 6-0 Game 2 being the exception). Ottawa was leading 2-1 after the first period in Game 4, but Mississauga scored one in the second and two in the third; meanwhile, Rayz Funk stopped 28 straight shots after allowing two of the first eight he faced to go in. Dan Gles scored two goals in the game for the Hounds. While I do believe the Kings' chances of a comeback are very low in their series, I don't think Mississauga should be counted out. The Hounds have not gotten a ton of production in the series from Callum MacElroy, who led the league in goals and points during the regular season, so if he can come online for them, they could potentially stand a chance. Ultimately I do think it is likely that Ottawa ends the series in one or two more games, but I this is the best chance there is for excitement in the first round. If the Wild and Lynx can finish off their series, the second round will be Philadelphia vs Saskatoon and Halifax vs Ottawa.
  3. Sorry to whoever actually deserves it but I gave myself a vote
  4. Hello everyone, I'm back! Well, for now at least, but I'll go more into what to expect from me a bit later. As some of you may know, I'm a long-time veteran of the league, going all the way back to S11 and never really being away from the league for too long any time since then. My recent hiatus was one of the longest periods of inactivity for me, having last updated my retiring Samuel Gate back in mid-October. At that time, I had been gradually losing interest in the league during Gate's career up to that point, and eventually I just stepped away entirely. So why am I back now? That's the question I'm about to answer, and I will go into what you should expect in terms of activity as well as a bit of a background on my new player, Justin Rushmore. Why have I returned? Short answer: I opened up the VHL while drunk last Friday night and posted a status suggesting that I had a new player on the way. @Phil was excited, so there was really no turning back for me at that point. The thing is, this is actually mostly true. I'm coming back in large part simply because I suggested that I might. Although I had popped in from time to time during the past few months, I had not really thought about creating a new player or updating again, not in the VHL anyway. I was also a member of the EFL, where I remained active for a bit longer after I left the VHL, and I checked up on that league more often since my departure. I had thoughts of returning there, but the VHL was not really on my mind. So it's kind of backwards, but the return actually came before the idea to do so. It wasn't just that one status, though. I made a few other interactions that night, and it did help re-ignite my interest in the league. If I didn't actually want to come back, I wouldn't do so just because of a part I made while drunk. What to expect? You shouldn't expect a whole lot, because at this point in time, I really don't. This is a spur of the moment decision for the most part, so I could definitely see this not amounting to much, even if I have a strong first couple months or so. I'm certainly not looking to take on responsibility here, and I'm likely not going to be near the top of my draft class in TPE, but I expect I can make a decent player. Who is Justin Rushmore? My new player is Justin Rushmore, a left winger who I intend to build as a power forward. I've never focused too heavily on checking with any of my previous forwards, so this will be a bit of a different experience for me. That should possibly help to keep me interested. Furthermore, this type of player will likely be more satisfying than the defensive defenseman that was Samuel Gate. My player names always have some meaning behind them, linked to my interests. Justin Rushmore is no different. I came up with the idea for the name as a possible new player for the EFL, with the idea of creating a run-blocking tight end (making Rushmore a fitting surname). I've decided to use it here instead. As for the reasons behind the names... Justin = Justin Pierre (lead singer of m favorite band, the now-defunct Motion City Soundtrack); Justin Morneau (favorite baseball player during his time with the Minnesota Twins) Rushmore = Rushmore (my favorite movie); Rush (Mega Man's robot dog companion); Yukon Rush (I founded this team!)
  5. Nearing the end of what is undoubtedly his best season, Samuel Gate has announced that it will be his last. He has career highs in just about every stat, most notable of which is his league-leading 67 assists. Never slated to be an offensive player, Gate is currently in the top ten in points with 82; his highest prior to this season was 64. Unlike previous seasons, however, his team is all the way on the bottom of the standings. Previously with Vancouver (and Quebec before the move), he was frequently in the playoff race, though the team was mostly just average in that duration. This past off-season, he was traded a couple times, winding up playing for the Seattle Bears who have just 48 points. Gate was drafted second overall in S61, and you could definitely argue that he was a bust. He wasn't terrible, but there were definitely better players taken after him. Though he wasn't necessarily expected to put up a ton of points, he never really improved much prior to this season. He was always a fine defensive player, but he just never had the overall impact you'd expect from a second overall pick.

  9. Yo shit you made a player named Boomer Kuwanger? That's awesome. I loved using that's as my name a couple baseball sim leagues as a pitch with a sick curve. Mega Man X is probably my favorite video game of all time.

  13. THIS I'd make it bigger if I could to further emphasize it, and green is my favorite color that's why I made it green.
  14. Phil? What are you doing here?!
  15. Legend my ass. Building defensive players is not rewarding at all. Gate was shit.
  16. Cool, so I was on New York even if just for a brief moment before being traded again.
  17. yooooo you around here again? What is the meaning of 'gorlab' because it's always made me think of Balrog from Street Fighter, or is that not it?
  18. Do this one, but this is coming from someone who absolutely doesn't want to take any chance of ever weirding of a good friend situation. But this poast is two and a half years old so woowee why am I even responding to it! Is Jardy still around?
