  1. Also I should say my 'no GM' idea just popped into my head while recording a podcast, so I haven't put much thought into it at all. Ultimately it's probably the wrong course to take
  2. In my scenario, I do imagine some people would need to be brought in to help for sure. The goal would be to eliminate the positions that might have a vested interest in the success of one team over another, because indeed the focus of the VHLM should not be winning.
  3. Those are all things that the commissioners could do.
  4. For anyone who cares, I have updated the career stats spreadsheets with S53. If you don't know where to find them, they are in the VHL games forum. More specifically, they are here (playoff stats) and here (regular season). Don't trust the defenseman stats spreadsheet that's not my doing so that one isn't updated with S53. Anyway, I'm not half way through Maxwell's career, so I may as well go ahead and see where she stands among some of her peers. Currently, she has 153 goals and 316 points in 288 games. Not terrible, especially considering the poor start. How about some others? From S49, we've seen Thor Odinsson retire early. Pietro Maximoff is still looking like a future competitor of Maxwell's for a spot in the Hall of Fame. He has 214 goals and 467 points through 360 games. While Maxwell could catch his "goals in first five seasons" total, she probably won't have 467 points by the end of her fifth (she would need 151 this season). From the S50 draft, the major competition is Theo Axelsson and Essian Ravenwing. Axelsson has 138 goals and 294 points, so Maxwell has him beat offensively thus far. He does, however, also have a lot more hits (and could possibly break Zach Parechkin's career record eventually). Ravenwing is also behind, with 66 goals and 251 points. His goals are expected to be lower, as he is more of a playmaker. Compared to some others, Ravenwing won't be as big of a threat to Maxwell's goal of being the best forward of this generation. for Maxwell
  5. So then why have GMs at all? seriouspostactuallythisisarealsuggestion
  6. I think I did okay with my S53 predictions. Not great, to be honest, but I have to wonder how many people got any Jarvi or AK47's awards correct. My success mostly came from correctly predicting team success. I had all four of the team trophies picked correctly, but the only individual award I pegged was Jakab Holik as Top Goalie. Maybe that'll teach me for predicting a lot of New York awards (it actually didn't, and my current S54 predictions have a lot of New York awards). How do I feel about the award winners? For the most part, I agree. My personal ballot agreed with all the winners except Advantage as Top GM and Hamilton as Top Defenseman, though those were two of the tougher awards to decide (I went with Higgins for Top GM and Velvet for Top Defenseman; I tried, @Higgins, now give me my TPE!). Hopefully I do better with my S54 picks, but maybe this season I get more player awards right and less team trophies. That'd be swell. for mist4ke
  7. That's not true though. A good GM should be losing quality players to the VHLM draft as well.
  8. How are we rewarding them? Because it gives them a better chance at winning? Personally, I don't consider that a reward. Sure, winning would be nice for my players, but I don't measure my success as a VHLM GM on how much my team wins.

  10. I agree with restricting trades. I'm all for that. And that's part of the reason I don't necessarily think we need to adjust pay to become based on how many players graduate to the VHL.
  11. Because GMs who want to focus on helping out first gens will be punished for trying to earn harder pay. If we disallow teams from trading draft picks, that will already take away some of the incentive to tank, because you can't tank by trading your players and stocking up on picks. And really, I doubt GMs are going to tank just to get a pick that's a few spots higher. I definitely do see some merit to the idea, though. As it is, for a GM who wants to win, the ideal player is going to be someone who ends up going inactive and never makes it out of the VHLM. That's not saying that GM's actually want that, but inactive 100+ TPE players who have multiple seasons left are valuable assets. Honestly, I don't think there's all too much wrong with taking away the VHLM GM pay. I would be on board with that. Though I actually have a different idea in a podcast that'll be up shortly so look forward to that
  12. I definitely like the thought, but I also think there are obvious reasons that strictly paying GMs each season based on how many players they graduate to the VHL would not work.
  13. Also @BobertZ no one is blaming you. It's just a consequence of the VHLM being reduced to five teams. Honestly, I don't really know what all the rosters are looking like, so I don't know if it's going to just be a one-team show. But that certainly isn't what the VHLM should be. And reducing the VHLM to five teams is going to have to come with some other change. If things operate as they have in the past, the cycle of stocking up to compete for a couple seasons followed by a couple seasons of futility, it will end up being worse than before.
  14. I don't know about that pay structure. Are you suggesting we get rid of the VHLM draft as well? Otherwise claiming a player on waivers doesn't matter, because they're most likely not going to graduate to the VHL from your team. They'll go into the VHLM draft. I do very much like the idea of restricting trades. Are you thinking no trades at all? No trading draft picks?
  15. There is literally a rule that says teams can't have more than one active free agent. It was never stated that this rule does not apply to the dead teams' players.
  16. And who is that fun for if the rest of us are fighting to be second best or not the worst? Who other than your team would enjoy that?
  17. And what about the players didn't get drafted by you? Why should they have to play for a team that isn't the best?
  18. Who are the others besides Jokinen, OLOPM, Rowe, and Girard? I guess there are some inactive "active" players like @Spangle and someone else maybe. Why do we even have a draft? We should just let everyone choose where they want to play every season. @eaglesfan036 @Frank
  19. Yukon offers $1 million. Tbh I don't know how exactly we compare to the other teams. Most likely we won't be super competitive, but since we don't have many active players on our roster at the moment, if you sign you'll be top priority!
  20. you can sign with Yukon. Sign with Yukon where you will have an incredible shot at MVP
  21. Educate me pls Actually no, I don't even want to be educated
