I'm No Less Active, But...

...lately I haven't been as eager to visit the league's Discord server. It isn't a conscious decision I'm making because I don't really have a definite reason for it; I'm just finding myself not coming home and immediately going to see what's going on in genchat. I love the league, I'm still very active...just a bit burned out when it comes to the league server in particular for reasons unknown to myself. It's likely this just has to do with my own life being busier the past few weeks--it's hard to keep up with what's happening in a place that's always popping off if I don't have the time to be in it consistently (or if I do, I'm always feeling guilty for not doing something else I could be doing). 

 

I'd like to reiterate that I am zero percent concerned about my activity in the league as a whole, and none of you should be any percent concerned either. I've just got a small case of burnout in one part of the community in particular, so don't be overly worried if you don't see me around there much for a bit--I'm just doing what I consider healthy and what I've encouraged others to do in the past by not forcing myself to keep up something that I'd be forcing myself to do if I did it. Maybe exams being over in a few weeks will fix that, maybe it won't, but in any case I'm still very happy with my place in the league overall and look forward to making a lot of memories in the future, so I'm not going to worry about it.

Personally I don't check the league Discord's server unless I'm tagged... and depending on who tagged me I either ignore it or poke around for a bit.

Welcome to the “pro forum” club! That has always been and will always be discord’s main drawback for me. Nothing leaves a lasting impact really, if you aren’t around during a discussion you are just going to miss it forever.

I'm not anti-Discord at all; I'd just like to try...not living in genchat for a while. I'm still in other servers that I enjoy (Davos included). Even when I really wanted to be there all the time I can't say I thought that was healthy.

I won't say this definitely didn't contribute but I've been Chief of Horny Police for probably close to a year now so I can't exactly un-commit. I'll probably still be there to enforce the law here and there

Being pro-forum doesn’t mean being anti-discord. I can recognize it’s usefulness while still being equally annoyed by its flaws; there’s nothing wrong with that.

 

This is a good example though. You replied to me 7 hours ago, while I was asleep, and I had no trouble discerning the context of the conversation quickly and responding adequately despite things being hours apart. This conversation wouldn’t work on discord.

But for real Gus, I’m sure you needed an extra 2 TPE, but make sure you don’t feel bad or guilty for not being there more. I know I’ve been waaaaay more active there than I am right now, and that’s fine. We all know you do so much around here that you’ve gotta prioritize. Really, gen chat is just a place for everyone to socialize on a pretty surface level. There’s not much worth scrolling back for ever - anything important makes it to the forums, and anything specifically involving you or your team probably happens somewhere else on discord. As a GM, involvement in Davos is expected, but like everyone else, activity in gen chat is bonus. Make sure you get some sense of enjoyment  out of being there, and if you don’t or if you’re pulled in too many directions, gen chat is a fine one to cut.
