I think that often the games that you play most from 10-14 will hold a very strong place in your heart similar to how music from when you are 12-21 holds a special place in your heart for your entire life.

I'm just built different. 

For real though, I don't rate games on nostalgia. I've gone back to 'favorite games' like Wolfenstein 3D and the OG DooM and have been disappointed in myself because I ruined memories; put bluntly, the games weren't as good as I remembered them being. I'd rather go by what I know I actually enjoy, games that I can replay because the story is great or the content is satisfying.

Not "best games", but favorite games

 

NHL 09 - NHL 22: EASHL (specifically clubs and since NHL 21 6v6 organized leagues, introduced to me by @Squidward) - I don't play offline, versus, or HUT

COD MW2 - put so much time into this game after high school, played with family

Age of Empires 2 - Never got into online because I'm not good enough at RTS games for it, but I started playing this game in elementary school and have played it off and on since

Football Manager - Generally buy a new one every two years

League of Legends - Have played off and on for 11 years now, gave up on ranked years ago but still fun to play with friends

James Bond Nightfire - This applies to a ton of games, but the experience of splitscreen vs. everyone playing online together is 100% different. Nothing like screen-looking, accusing others of screen-looking, etc...

Pokemon - Not going to throw in specific titles, but just an iconic game

Halo 3 - Again, iconic, very fun to play with friends, but not a game I was very good at

Rock Band - Tons of great memories playing this with friends and family

Madden - iconic series that has just fallen off a cliff every since they removed the vision cone for QBs, was a huge shift from realism to arcade mode

MVP Baseball 05 - top top notch game for it's time.

It was the first CoD I got on release, and just have the most memories from it, and probably the most hours on it out of any CoD. I'll never forget getting diamond launchers :')

Oh yeah, the original Gran Turismo should probably have been on my list. Never owned it myself, but I think just about all my friends did and we played it to death.

The first console I played was the SNES, which is a GOAT console. I’m going to lump most franchises together because it feels wrong to clog the list up but also wrong to not include some of the picks.

 

In mostly no particular order:

 

1. Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross (PS1)

- Donkey Kong Country 1-3 (SNES)

- Pokemon (Yellow would be the nostalgic pick, HGSS and BW would be modern faves)

- Final Fantasy 1 and 4-7. 10 is good too. Haven’t played the rest except 2, which was bad.

- Mount and Blade Warband (Game of Thrones mod)(PC)

- Crusader Kings 2+3

- Smackdown vs Raw 2006 (PS2). Shoutout to Smackdown 2 (PS1) as well 

- Diablo II (PC)

- Dungeon Keeper 1+2 (PC)

- Super Mario World (SNES)

 

HMs: GTA, Worms Plus, Tetris Attack, Civ 5, Skyrim, Super Punch Out, Smash Bros
