Long Overdue LA Stars Jersey Retirements!

Recommended Posts

If there is one thing I love about the VHL, it's the history aspect and having records of... just about everything really. You can see a teams top players, top goalies, their stats, everything you need to do an article like this. With the history comes great responsibility and as a new GM, I figured what better way to kick my tenure off than with a jersey retirement post. I am actually fortunate enough to be the first LA GM to retire some numbers so it makes it even more special, as I get to retire three of the best players to play for this franchise to date. Without further ado... the retirements!

Spoiler

Pistil Stamen - @DMaximus

If we're going to talk about LA greats... look no further than Pistil Stamen. Stamen was drafted to LA back in S75 as the first overall selection and to LA fans, probably one of the brightest and best selections they have ever made. While Stamen was unable to successfully capture any personal or team awards, his tenure with the team alone and success within the team proved he was loyal, committed and ready to go to war for LA in any way possible. Below are his stats per season:

82 (LAS) 72 28 78 106 19 410 39 126 35 3 5 1
81 (LAS) 72 43 69 112 28 479 120 191 37 5 10 0
80 (LAS) 72 47 62 109 6 492 62 174 35 8 15 1
79 (LAS) 72 51 61 112 22 510 40 142 22 5 17 0
78 (LAS) 72 20 18 38 1 230 53 137 20 2 5 1
77 (LAS) 72 37 39 76 11 378 79 93 39 3 11 0
76 (LAS) 72 31 30 61 -10 373 21 40 33 3 6 1
75 (LAS) 72 15 15 30 -35 143 25 52 25 2 5 0
Totals 576 272 372 644 42 3015 439 955 246 31 74 4

Stamen ended up with well over a PPG, 644 points in 576 total games, an absolute machine on the ice, he was also +42 and ended his career with FOUR... yes FOUR seasons of 100+ points, absolutely phenomenal. Thank you for everything you did for LA @DMaximus and enjoy the retirement!

Spoiler

Jeffrey Pines - @rory

Differences aside, there is no way LA is as good as they are if you don't have Jeffrey Pines on the team. Pines was drafted eighth overall in the S73 draft and despite this being probably one of the deepest drafts in leagues history for top-tier talent, Pines held his own the whole way through his career. Pines, like Stamen did not win any individual awards with LA, nor team awards with LA and spent 7 of the 8 career seasons with the team, providing loyalty, skill and support to the team throughout. Below are his stats:

80 (LAS) 24 8 18 26 3 107 4 11 73 0 3 0
79 (LAS) 72 23 44 67 3 279 16 18 190 3 11 0
78 (LAS) 72 33 54 87 5 385 68 232 48 6 13 0
77 (LAS) 72 39 49 88 9 354 166 245 35 9 5 0
76 (LAS) 72 34 33 67 -2 340 107 229 48 4 4 0
75 (LAS) 72 41 42 83 0 386 114 123 34 4 8 1
74 (LAS) 72 19 44 63 -16 221 53 5 27 1 8 1
73 (LAS) 72 11 41 52 -32 210 34 100 38 1 1 0

Even though Pines did not have those 100+ point seasons, the consistency in which he supplied elite numbers showed season after season, and the contribution made in LA will be forever remembered. Thank you for your contributions to LA, and enjoy the jersey retirement!

Spoiler

Doug Dimmadone - @Esso2264

Is it a bird (yeah kinda... more like a birb), is it a plane? Nope... it's a man with a very large mustache and a hat that touches the sky! That's right, it's our very first goalie jersey retirement... Doug Dimmadome! Owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome (let's hope anyways). Dimmadone was a S74 fifth overall draft pick and the most highly touted goalie at the time of the draft. His aura and talent both shined bright as he was a longstanding member of the LA Stars, playing out all 7 seasons of his career with the team. Dimmadome was unable to capture any type of shiny hardware, but the impact he made on the team is everlasting! Below are his stats:

80 (LAS) 66 32 27 4 0.908 3.56 1 212 2314 3574
79 (LAS) 66 39 21 5 0.912 3.21 1 208 2353 3881
78 (LAS) 66 33 30 3 0.923 2.99 4 196 2533 3926
77 (LAS) 64 36 23 4 0.923 2.89 2 182 2355 3781
76 (LAS) 66 24 30 9 0.913 3.34 2 213 2443 3826
75 (LAS) 63 19 32 11 0.915 3.3 0 204 2403 3708
74 (LAS) 64 25 33 6 0.916 3.22 2 206 2458 3836
Totals 455 208 196 42 0.916 3.21 12 1421 16859 26532

Dimmadome ended his career with a positive winning record of 208-196-42 and his prime years really proved just how good he was, with 4 straight winning record seasons while playing the starter role. Thank you very big hat for all your contributions to LA, and enjoy your jersey retirement!

And that is me DONE. I really am so honored and blessed to be able to induct/retire three absolutely special and unique players for LA. Thank you everyone for reading.
