badcolethetitan 938
My First Gen Experience Alright, well might as well write about my journey in the VHL as a first gen player. A lot of people don't know, but I'm actually a first gen and I'm coming up being in the league for a year. Some people will find this hard to believe, but I promise it's true. Well, time to get the article underway! Creating my player It all began on December 27, 2021, where I made my account and decided to join the VHL. I won't lie, I was actually told to join the VHL actually a couple weeks sooner, but I was hesitant on joining at first due to possibly not being able to commit enough time to it. Coming into the VHL, I had no clue really what I had to do each week or what it would be like, all I was basically told was that you would "make a player and they would play in a simulated game", which sounded fine to me at the time. JB and Sam were the ones who constantly annoyed me in DMs (mainly Sam) to make a player. Eventually, I gave in and made a player which would be the player I have now, Siyan Yasilievich. You might be wondering, how did I make this player? Well, I at first actually wanted to be a goaltender, as I usually in games like to be goalie and in real life, I had the most joy playing goalie for my high school team. However, when I went to create, it said that there were "too many goalies" in the league and that I should create in a different position. I ended up looking at the counter and saw that defenseman were in dire need at the time, so I said screw it, I'll make a defenseman. As for the name, I literally went onto a website like "random name generator" or something and hit it a couple times, and it generated Siyan Yasilievich, which I ended up rolling with. Also, the number #98 is the number I wore in real life, so I just decided that would be my number for my entire career. I ended up creating my player as a "pass-first" defenseman (back when scoring was the meta) as I thought it would be unique to be different. I was ready to go to join a team and I was looking forward to what would happen next! Joining the VHLM as a Waiver Up next, I had to choose a VHLM team as a waiver player. At the time, I remember almost every team offering me to join their team, but most of it was 3rd/4th pairing defenseman spots, so I knew I wouldn't get much time on ice at first (I wish we still had that problem in the M)! I ended up narrowing down my choice between the San Diego Marlins, who was ran by JB at the time, and the Philadelphia Reapers, who was run by Alex. I ended up choosing the Reapers, due to the fact that I wanted to meet new people and I did feel bad leaving my friend JB who ended up getting me into the VHL out to dry. I was ready to tear up the M as a 4th pairing defenseman, because at the time I only ended up getting around 5 minutes of time on ice, regardless of what team I went to. I ended up joining the Reapers and my player was horrid at the start. I ended up putting up a singular point at the time and was a -6, in 10 games played, I was a liability on the ice and I'm pretty sure Alex knew that. Regardless, Alex was a great GM (with Masu Chan as the AGM of course), and ended up teaching me how to earn to make my player better at the time. I remember once I figured out that I could earn 14 TPE a week (12 + 2 from practice facility), I made sure to put time aside every single week to get this done, as I wanted my player to be as good as possible fast. To this day, I still have never missed a max earn week, which is pretty surprising. The Reapers were a great choice for me to start off and after a very short season with the Reapers, getting eliminated in the second round, I was ready to head into the draft. Being drafted in the VHLM and the season Coming into the VHLM draft, I knew that I most likely was going to be a hot commodity, as I was a fairly active first gen player and M GMs were salivating at the chance to pick me. The only problem was that at the time, I had very low TPE, and it was tough to see me being drafted in the first round, but I really didn't care to be honest. Before the draft, Alex had ended up getting the GM job for Davos, and Masu became the GM for the Reapers. He then asked me if I wanted to be his AGM, which then also started my AGM career at the time. I didn't know how much I had to do, but I loved playing "Be a GM" mode in NHL, so I was like screw it, why not? I ended up finding out that the Reapers had me ranked fairly high on their draft board and I would end up being drafted 12th overall by the Reapers in the VHLM. I was pretty excited to be drafted by the Reapers, as I would be coming back to the team that I ended up signing to as a waiver player, so I was ready to roll. Heading into the season, I knew that I would most likely be a top 10 defenseman, as at the time there weren't many defenseman in the league, and with the meta being scoring and myself being a "pass-first" defenseman, I ended up racking up assists like it was nothing. We ended up having a fairly good season and I finished with 96 points, 81 of those being assists. I ended up tying Dom's player for the most assists in the M, so I did end up winning an award which was pretty cool. We then ended up playing Vegas in the first round of the playoffs, to which no surprise we took them down. The reason why I'm including this was because this was when the "#BlameCole" emote started, as I ended up having an insane amount of assists in the first round, so they just said that they lost because of me (It was ultimately Shindigs who said it first, so blame him)! We lost in the second round of the playoffs and that was that, our season was over. It was a really fun season and I was looking forward to the VHL/VHLE draft, as that was the next step in my career. VHLE/VHL Draft Experience Next up in my experience was the VHLE/VHL draft. I'll start with the VHL draft experience, as that was way more fun than the VHLE one. I remember receiving around 5-6 interviews from VHL teams who went super in depth asking me a ton of questions about my player, how much I'm going to earn, how long would I spend in their franchise, etc. However, Davos ended up interviewing me, which I remembered had Alex, who was my old M GM back when I signed there as a waiver player. This was pretty funny, because he basically said "If you're available when I pick, I'm taking you", and that was that. I ended up going fourth overall to the HC Davos Dynamo. If Davos hadn't drafted me at fourth overall, I would've ended up going anywhere from 7th-12th, as a majority of those teams at the time had interviewed me, however Davos decided to take a risk on drafting me at fourth overall. Moving forward was the VHLE draft experience. I ended up getting an interview from I believe 4 teams at the time, with 2 of those teams having their AGMs interview me. I basically had figured out right before the draft that Vasteras wasn't going to draft me, as they didn't need defenseman, so I knew I was going to head to the Istanbul Red Wolves, which out of the four teams I actually wanted to play for them the most. I had a great chat with Kaleeb, who was the GM for the Wolves at that specific time, and I was ready to go. It actually is quite funny, because before Alex became the GM for the Reapers in the M, Kaleeb was actually the GM for the Reapers. So in my entire first gen players career, I've played for someone who has GM'd the Reapers at one point. After being drafted to the Wolves and talking to my new teammates, I was super excited for the season that was ahead of us! VHLE Experience We're getting closer and closer to present day, but we must take a short stop at my VHLE experience. I've heard horror stories about the VHLE and how inactive it is, but my experience with the VHLE was actually not that bad. We ended up having an extremely good team and we also had a very active locker room for VHL standards. I remember at the time it was basically Jacob, Brandon, and I talking every single day in the locker room (with the GM/AGM of course), and we had a great time during the season. I remember Istanbul being a couple points out of a playoff spot, and I ended up giving a speech to attempt to get us back into the winning ways. Well apparently, Simon somehow heard this speech and we then went on like a 15 game win streak or something crazy, which was all out of pure luck. I am pretty sure somewhere in the Istanbul LR, that speech is screenshotted and saved, so that was pretty cool to be apart of their history. We ended up finishing second and we were off to play Bratislava in the first round of the playoffs. In the playoffs, we ended up going up 3-1 against Bratislava and everything was looking good. However, we then went on to throw three games in a row only to lose to Bratislava, who then went on to win the cup at the end of the playoffs against Vasteras in the finals. I ended up being a PPG player in both the regular season and the playoffs, so I was pretty happy and so was Alex, who I would be joining next season on Davos in the VHL. VHL Rookie Season Experience I had finally made it after multiple seasons to the VHL and I was super hyped. I knew that coming into my first season that I wouldn't be as dominant as I was in the VHLE or the VHLM, but I still had high hopes for my player at the time. The locker room was also super active, so I was stoked to be apart of Davos, even though they are extremely cursed. We ended up making the playoffs as a wildcard at the end of the season, and I had put up 41 points in my rookie season with a +/- of 0. I wasn't really thrilled with my point production, but I knew it was my rookie season and I was a defenseman, so I didn't really care too much. I don't even remember if we won or lost the wildcard round, but we had made the playoffs and that already was a step in the right direction for Davos. On top of that, my rookie season I had earned the Alternate Captain for Davos, which was a great thing to have as I tried to be extra active in the locker room to help inspire the others to be active too. I ended up talking a ton in the Davos LR, (I still do), and I met even more people than before. Thunder, Crstats, dasboot, and Ahma were the people that I had talked to the most at the time and I was super excited to be able to meet them. This would then Segway into future seasons, where Davos would have mixed success in the playoffs, however every single season that I've been with Davos we have made the playoffs. I then eventually became the Captain for Davos, and this is my second season leading the team, which I'm proud to call myself the Captain for this organization. My rookie experience in the VHL was great and I knew looking forward that I could see myself playing for Davos for a very long time. Where I am now Well, that then brings me to where I'm at now, which is the Captain for Davos in my second season and the GM for the Mexico City Kings. I didn't talk too much about my management side in the VHL, as that would be another whole three paragraphs basically, so I decided to leave that out, but I'll TLDR it instead. Basically, I became the Reapers AGM and Alex had reached out to me if I wanted to manage in the JST. I then ended up managing the Brigade and the Royals in the JST, which then led me to managing Team Asia in the WJC. Shortly after I applied to GM in the M and I ended up becoming the GM for the Mexico City Kings. I ended up becoming a GM because I want other first gens to be able to have a great experience in the VHL just like I had. However, back to my player and Davos currently. Yasilievich currently has 39 points in 42 games played, with a +15, which is already a step up from last season if my player continues to produce like that. On top of that, I've found myself to be more active in the locker room in talking to newer players and trying to help them fit in with Davos. At the end of the day, I'm glad I ended up joining the VHL and there are so many people that I have met that I do not regret. I've made some close friends already in the VHL and I'm not even halfway through my VHL career, so I hope I'll be able to meet some new people in the future. I want to give a special thanks again to JB123 and Samx, who ended up bringing me here in the first place. Without those two, I wouldn't be where I am today in the VHL and I can't thank them enough. I'll end this off here, because this is a lot of words, over 2300 to be exact. I guess I now have 4 weeks of writing to claim!
