Eagles disappointed to miss out due to TPE Cap

Another year, another non-call up for Greg Eagles to the World Junior to represent Europe in the competition.

Last season he was labelled as not yet good enough and this season he was labelled as too good due to the fact he had a couple extra TPE.

" I always wanted to play and represent my country so it kinda sucks that I am not eligible because I put in extra work/time in practice, I think eligibility should be aged based in the juniors and not how good you are or how much time you put into practice. You know make it for players 18 or 19 and under" said Eagles.

It is a disappointing start to his career as he will now never be able to represent on the world junior stage and that was always one of his goals.

" It is disappointing but I couldn't put my career on hold and sabotage getting better for my team. If I stopped practicing to keep myself at 350, it could have potentially ruined my shot at playing quality games for my VHL team. I just think maybe the rules need to be looked at and just make it an age things so that us players don't have to play a balancing act between club and representing our country" Eagles continues

Even if the change was made to an age cap instead of a talent cap, there is no telling if Eagles would get an invite. World Cup Gm's have a difficult choice to make in each position and are always making sure they are picking the best players in each position.

His next chance to represent his country would be in the world cup in S68. It will be challenging as there is a decent amount of competition for the backup role. If Kalis Kriketers has not retired by that point, Kalis would definitely  be the main starting goalie.

The question is will Eagles answer the call after being passed up in the world juniors or will he focus strictly on his VHL team, the Vancouver Wolves.

" It's tough to say, I always dream of playing for my country but I have to focus on my career and that is with the Wolves, I guess I will have to figure it out if I get an invite next season or not"

We believe that if Eagles continues training and playing well that he will eventually get the call up and that he wouldn't turn down an opportunity to represent his country as part of Team World in the World Cup. Eagles has always been the type of player where he wants to win cups and do the best that he can for whatever team he is playing. Eagles may have just been speaking in the heat of the moment where he says he doesn't know if he would play if he received an invite, but I will go on the record to say that there is a 99% chance he will accept the invite if called up.

I agree with this it should be VHLM players and VHL Rookies. Ill never get to play in WJC games since ill be past the threshold every season when it comes up....
