Devise 4,475
After some discussing in the Board of Governors and with the Blue Team we have the following World Cup changes to announce. We have restructured team names/countries to try to balance out the amount of players each roster has. This is to not only make it so every team has a fighting chance but get more active players involved in the World Cup. The new teams are as follows: Team Canada Eligibility for those born in Canada. Team USA Eligibility for those born in United States. Team Scandinavia Eligibility for those born in Norway, Denmark, Sweden or Finland. Team Europe Eligibility for those born in any country inside the continent of Europe that doesn't fall into Scandinavia. Examples: England, Scotland, France, Italy etc. Team World Eligibility for those born in any other continent that isn't North America or Europe. Examples Russia, China, Japan, Brazil, Australia. Team Mercenaries Eligibility will be any player who does not get selected for another World Cup roster. *Note Team Mercenaries will select their players AFTER all the other teams have selected rosters. Regarding eligibility for players who are newly retired. All players who go through auto retirement at the end of the season or choose to retire after the second round of the playoffs is over will be eligible to play in the World Cup that season. If you retire before Round 2, you will not be eligible to play in the World Cup. Example: Alexander Valiq was set to auto retire this season but chose to retire earlier. He will not be eligible for the S37 World Cup. Guido Schwarz Esq has yet to retire and will be auto retired at the end of the playoffs. He is eligible in the S37 World Cup. Even as it was in previous seasons the few stragglers from like Latvia and Japan/China were added to the Russian team. Russia is considered a top team along with Canada and USA.. its wrong to lump them in with a bunch of smaller nations, even if they do not have a ton of people. Have fillers? Russia should still have their own delegation. It is just wrong for them not to. Dont yall feel that way? And for the players of smaller countries.. lump them in with Team Mercenaries are something.. But Russia should be represented independently. Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/7539-world-cup-changes/#findComment-67612 Share on other sites

Even after going through the VHLM Russia cannot stand on it's own currently. Normally I'd agree since Russia is a good hockey country. But this is the VHL not actual life. We do what we can with the players that we have. JardyB10 and scoop 2 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/7539-world-cup-changes/#findComment-67617 Share on other sites

Devise 4,475
Are VHLMers eligible for this? I don't have any clue how this works. VHLM players are eligible. But rosters are filled up after each team has 6 forwards, 4 D and two goalies. So a lot of the rosters will be filled out by VHL players. However some of the rosters that don't have as many players to select from, like Team World for example will be filled up with more VHLM players. A general rule of thumb is if your player is Canadian, American or Scandinavian and you are under 200 TPE VHL or VHLM, your likely not to make the team. The majority of players create from those three in the league. Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/7539-world-cup-changes/#findComment-67621 Share on other sites
stevo 792
Player is German, and four points shy of the 200 TPE. Maybe he'll have a chance. Thanks for answering though. Team Europe which devolved from Team Germany has been historically bad. But it was always separate from Switzerland and then UK who were popular at various times. This is the first time we're one continent team so it'll be interesting. But I think we're still shallow enough in all positions to be considered underdogs and I suspect you'll get on the roster because of that and because GMs reward activity. Devise post? Might as well. CoachReilly 688
Really wish I had seen this in the BoG. We should rethink this though. The point of the World Cup is to have some regional pride. d3vilsfire 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/7539-world-cup-changes/#findComment-67704 Share on other sites

The point of the World Cup is to have some regional pride. If we had the players to do so then that would be fine. But we don't. Even in past seasons other countries got lumped in together. If more people would create players that aren't Canadian we'd run into less issues. Their is also still some level of national pride. You are still representing your country. With the exception of Canada and US all the other teams are a group of countries lumped together. But they still get to represent their country in that group. A lot better than having a tournament filled with CPU players since we wouldn't be able to get rosters together. Yeah, gating people to play for a specific country is an option. But people are aware of the choices they make when they create their player. Specific countries are generally overloaded regardless. Russia was a more meaningful team in previous incarnations mostly because it still had other groups of countries in it, and we actually had a few more notable Russian players. But most of them either left the league, or recreated from a different nationality. I think it would be beneficial to still have a chart of the number of players of each nationality in the create-a-player section. That way when someone is creating/recreating, they can see: Oh there is 30 canadians, 4 swedes, and 3 Russians. Maybe I should make my player a swede or Russian.. That could potentially help but keep in mind the World Cup is every 3 seasons. So some of those players could be retired by the time you create and then there could be a whole somewhere else. It also isn't just about the number of players, it's the number of quality players. If for example UK or Russia had 30 15 TPE players even now they still wouldn't be a viable team when another team, like this season team Canada is able to get rid of 300 TPE players because they have that many better options. This is actually the first time we've seen such a log jam at Canada as well. But since the last World Cup league parity has drastically increased, Welfare has really taken off and the number of players who have went from being low end to 400+ players has also increased. In previous years Russia actually was more of a powerhouse with tons of quality players. You could also be seeing the results of people looking at previous World Cup results and then looking at their nationality. Canada hasn't won a gold in a while and has struggled with and up and down roster. It used to be made up of a decent core of some of the elite players and then tons of inactive VHLM players. This time out it's pretty much stacked at every position. Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/7539-world-cup-changes/#findComment-67715 Share on other sites
