VHLM Experience so Far - Poopy

When I first created Kevin Malone, there wasn't much VHLM GM interest in me as every team had their goalie at that point in gearing up for the playoffs, so fine that was all fair. The Philadelphia Reapers were kind enough to sign me as a backup for their playoff run. The fact that I wasn't playing made me not particularly interested in checking in too often, but that is not really anyone's fault. Philly was kind enough to let me start a game in the regular season (which I won!) My issue with the VHLM is not really anything to do with them.

For the VHLM Draft - Not a single GM reached out to me for the draft asking what my intentions were. It appears none of the GMs did any scouting on me either, because if they did they would have seen I have been earning tpe every week, but just am too lazy to update. Sometimes I do that on purpose too, so I can see which GMs are paying attention. Maybe the goalie market is once again pretty filled, but I don't think that was the only issue. Minnesota eventually drafts me in the 1,000th round, and I find out my friends @Mr_Hatter and @GrittyIsKing09 are in the organization and I will be a starter, so I am pretty happy then thinking it will be a fun season. Then without a word from their GM, I am Beavised, and traded away without any advance warning other than being notified by the portal. I had to reach out to my friend Hatter for the explanation. Now I get to be with @Dil which is cool because I like him, but I got traded to a worse team and have not heard much of anything from any VHLM GM.

I hope that this isn't how new members are being treated, because it does not seem great for retention. Or maybe I am just a boomer and 95% of league happenings are occurring on discord nowadays. I just don't have the time to keep up with everything that goes on in each individual discord subsection. We need to start posting more things on the forums again. Speaking of the forums, why is the draft no longer held on the forum? It was much more fun when each GM got to announce their pick, and it is recorded as a piece of history in a thread you could look back on. Now it is just robotic on the forum, and nowhere near as exciting.

Having been through the VHLM rodeo several time, this experience so far just further reinforces me not going to care about the VHLM once again. This is a shame because I used to be a VHLM GM and commish and heavily involved in the league. I don't think there is any individual person to blame, and it could just be the league passing me by with all being on discord. Lastly speaking of discord, what is going on with me getting tagged in Pokemon discord threads and something about nitro boosts that people supposedly waste money on? Please explain.

Kevin Malone Out.

It takes too long as it is, I couldn't imagine having to wait even longer for GMs to have to write something.

The drafts are covered via live streams, in which you are hearing the picks as they happen on the Portal and get analysis on each selection from a dedicated group of people. I've participated in it the past two seasons and it's been a really cool experience.

I find it refreshing to see an article of this nature, rather than the usual 'my player...etc'.

I tend to agree about discord, as I was never a user until joining VHL and finding that you are kind of forced onto it to stay connected, so i can appreciate the point of the article. Further, I liked that the author addressed something that (while it may be a concern to the powers that be, at the coalface) seems to be problematic and that is new player retention.

Anyway this is a review and not an article, so well done. It might have been jazzed it up a bit with some colour, but I liked it regardless, as I felt it wasn't really that kind of article.

Granted there was an average of about 12 good picks, but it was pretty quick and painless.
