I have been in the VHL for a long time. Specifically, I created my first player 61 seasons ago, in S10. For 9 seasons I have not had a player – due to my hiatus in the 50s but also a couple short breaks between players on two occasions. I have also only spent 4 seasons where I have only had a VHLM player (i.e. no one in the big leagues) and been blessed with only 8 seasons of a rebuild.
That still leaves 40 seasons in which I was on a team contending for a cup, i.e. I went into a season believing that we could win it all. Sometimes those hopes were dashed early on, sometimes in Game 7 heartbreak in the finals, and 13 times they were realised. No one has won more Continental Cups than me in VHL history and yet to my 13 Ws I have taken more than twice as many Ls in my VHL career.
But, like everyone else, I keep coming back. Clearly, it's not because success is guaranteed, otherwise I'd be pretty damn disappointed with the results. Evidently, the highs are better than the lows and the community makes it worthwhile. Thank you everyone x.
@Doomsday's article which dropped about 5 minutes ago also reminded me that only 9 playoff MVPs didn't win the cup (and 3 of them co-winners). Of the remaining six I managed to appear twice (Chershenko in S34 and Clegane in S51). Maybe that's why I keep coming back.
