  1. This is a man who can’t outscore Gritty and has fewer cup rings than Gritty yknow.
  2. Just trying to help Prague past Malmo.
  3. I’m keeping a very low profile with Pavlov. We wait. ?
  4. Clegane’d @GustavMattias I never actually searched for cast I just read everything. i also made sort of a case for Kohler this year. It was sort of an argument with myself but I leant towards the yes, but when as well. In summary his best seasons came on two unreal regular season teams (S51 Calgary and S54 Stockholm) but he was also the MVP of weaker teams and where he got really snubbed was the S53 playoff MVP vote. That would definitely make the award cabinet look different.
  5. How did MGS only go 8th overall??
  6. What an absolute don.
  7. NY throwing away the playoffs with 7 penalties, yikes.
  8. We keep on rolling rolling rolling
  9. The Victory Cup belongs to the motherland now.
  10. Yeah I compared him to Kastelic, a total bust.
  11. As the unofficial overlord of HOF discussions in the BOG, my role means constant tracking of potential ballot members. In the glorious age of the portal, this is a pretty straightforward job – go to the player list, filter by TPE (or TPA depending on how I feel) and go through the stats, career pace, and awards of some of the star players in the league. On occasion it is also useful to sort by draft year to keep an eye on all the players close to retirement and make a final decision if someone has a chance or should be written off. Here are my current cliff notes in the spirit of this HOF theme week: Kriketers, McWolf, Borwinn, Tzuyu? Pepper? Wilinsky? - Wilinsky especially might just slither in Sullivan Jr. (?), Wahl? Davison? Bailey? Smitty (?) Jaguar (?), HHH, Freeman Funk (?) So let's talk about this. S63s I won't bother you too much with, I've already written about them in some length a couple weeks ago. Kriketers, McWolf, and Borwinn will almost certainly make it in, and I just love my note about Wilinsky which is the main reason I left this in. Class of S64 we might as well start writing off. Bailey probably would have a great shot if he stayed active but falling off the face of the earth means he never had the prime superstar season and now depreciation will hit him hard and fully derail that train. Sullivan Jr. was a far cry from his dad as a defenceman but switching position and playing with Matt Thompson seemed to give him new life (and the league's last (ever?) 100-point season). However, Malmo and Ryan without Thompson have not had a fun time. There's a few solid goalies from the S64 draft, but none really have the consistency needed for the Hall of Fame. If Pepper remains a big question mark, then you can count out Rift and Wahl. Davison is a slightly different story as he has had his moments, but really needed a Kriketers-like year in S70 to have a chance. All of a sudden we're in S65 which was possibly the weakest draft of the decade. That said, it might have produced the single best player of the decade. It's not often you say about a defenceman in the VHL but Smitty is that type of generational player. Two Labattes already, almost certainly a third on the way, and quite possibly a sweep of all 3 defensive trophies this season. That is elite and he has in my opinion already transcended the need for a Continental Cup ring to get the call. It wouldn't hurt though. As I said in that S63 article, Jet Jaguar is the only active player outside Kastelic, Borwinn, and Bailey with a career point-per-game pace or better. That is both insane and puts him in very good stead as he continues through his prime years. A few individual trophies in S70 would go a long way to cementing his, still young, case. S66 rivals of Jaguar remain unclear. HHH and Freeman broke out in S69 it seems but still haven't had that big season. So far, their career trajectory is looking more like Kastelic than Borwinn. And finally Rayz Funk. Like Smitty has complete dominance of his position, so Funk is primed to be the greatest goaltender of his time. He is already the TPA leader among league goalies, less than halfway through his career, and his two playoff MVP trophies to his name. The imminent retirement of Kriketers and Pepper, and the S64 goalies soon after, means that he will also be older than all his competition and therefore, in theory, the best bet for Shaw Trophies. Of course, things don't always work out quite that simply, but in a league of few certainties, my money is on Funk making the Hall of Fame in S75.

  15. Midway through the season it looked like there would be a couple races to end the season – Moscow's battle against Vancouver for the Victory Cup and maybe a European playoff race if Malmo got their shit together. Fast forward a couple weeks and it's all a whole lot more interesting. Victory Cup The main midseason race is actually looking more like a non-event. With a 10-point lead with 8 games to go, the Menace would have to lose 5 of their remaining games (almost a third of their total losses all season to date) to give the Wolves a chance to sneak into the lead. Vancouver should however get home ice throughout the North American playoffs. NA playoff race D.C. seemed to be drifting to another season outside the playoffs throughout S70 until a recent surge (7-2-1 in their last 10) put the Dragons not just within 1 point of fourth but within touching distance of second place as both Calgary and Seattle fell away from Vancouver and back into the mix. EU playoff race Malmo did get their shit together. A 6-game winning streak sees them in a playoff spot for the first time all season, but it's not just Prague, 1 point behind in fifth, who need to worry. At least the Phantoms are a respectable 5-5-0 in their last 10. Riga and Helsinki looked set to renew their rivalry in the first round but are in freefall, especially the Reign who have won just once in their last 10 games. Only 4 points separate Riga in second from Prague in fifth and it's all to play for. At least some certainty is provided by Davos who became the first team to be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. This article has nothing to with HOF, guess another one will be coming later this week. I wrote it yesterday, sue me. moscow moscow moscow

  21. 1. Which of these has never been a VHLM team? (Credit and 1 uncapped TPE to @animal74) That would be the Bern Beasts. The Bern Royals were a team, also known as the Toledo Scorpions once, but never any Beasts in the VHLM or VHL for that matter. I was very tempted to put the Oslo Screaming Seamen as an option (which was a legitimate team which existed) but anyway, a full list of current and former names can be found here: https://vhlforum.com/topic/506-vhlm-team-abbreviations/ 2. TRUE/FALSE: The VHL was founded on July 23, 2007 (Credit and 1 uncapped TPE to @Quik - RIP) A trick question in a way, as the VHL opened its doors to the general public on July 23rd.... the league itself was created when Kevin Brooks made it on the 18th. https://vhlportal.com/hof/inductees/45 2 capped TPE goes to: McWolf @McWolf GustavMattias @GustavMattias Spyro @Spyro Josh @Josh DoktorFunk @DoktorFunk Proto @Proto Jacobaa19 @jacobaa19 MexicanCow123 @MexicanCow123 Chillzone @chillzone Matt_O @Matt_O Bob Helminen @Bob Helminen Zetterberg @Zetterberg FrostBeard @FrostBeard Motzaburger @Motzaburger Alex Bridge @Alex Bridges DMaximus @DMaximus Vin Calia @VinCal Jubo07 @Jubo07 MMFLEX @MMFLEX Chacet @ChaceT Tape-To-Tape @Tape-to-Tape JBeezy76 @Jbeezy76 Dalton Wilcox @Dalton Wilcox dasboot @dasboot Esso2264 @Esso2264 Doomsday @Doomsday Ahma @Ahma Gwdjohnson @Gwdjohnson McLovin @McLovin Zyrok @Zyrok KillaScrilla @KillaScrilla Antone10 @Antone10 Pengu @Pengu enigmatic @enigmatic scoop @scoop Brewins15 @Brewins15 Dil @Dil Erik Summers @Erik Summers Jtv123 @Jtv123 Hulkhogan @HulkHogan BoucherFan12 @BoucherFan12 Beketov @Beketov gorlab @gorlab bluesfan55 @bluesfan55 Studentized @studentized Matmenzinger @Matmenzinger Berocka @Berocka philliefan @Philliefan .sniffuM @.sniffuM jRuutu @jRuutu Legend0985 @Legend0985 Harpskii @Harpskii Zepheter @zepheter frescoelmo @frescoelmo BrrbisBrr @Brrbisbrr Sonnet @Sonnet fonziGG @fonziGG Kekzkrieg @Kekzkrieg KC15 @KC15 Enorama @Enorama Trifecta @Da Trifecta Cxsquared @Cxsquared STZ @STZ Garsh @Garsh DirtyDerek @DirtyDerek Big Mac @Big Mac Spax @Spaz Tagger @Tagger rjfryman @rjfryman Kyle @Kyle Oilmandan @oilmandan Acydburn @Acydburn Greg_Di @Greg_Di littleboi @littleboi fever95 @fever95 Ricer13 @Ricer13 jared @jared Lockdown Defense @Lockdown Defense Garrett @Garrett DaftRaincloud @DaftRaincloud Peace @Peace wcats @wcats Ferda @Ferda Viperxhawks19 @Viperxhawks19 TheFlash @TheFlash ROOKIE745 @ROOKIE745 Telkster @Telkster Grant @Grant Edustava @Edustava Tate @Tate Midnite @Midnite Mr_Hatter @Mr_Hatter Smarch @Smarch diamond_ace @diamond_ace Rayzor_7 @Rayzor_7 Giles Rigel @Giles Rigel Chip Chiperson @Chip chiperson PadStack @PadStack Lefty_S @Lefty_S Kendrick @Kendrick CowboyinAmerica @CowboyinAmerica solas @solas Josh @Josh JeffD @JeffD jared @jared Keygan @Keygan Patrik Tallinder @Patrik Tallinder GRZ @GRZ Nykonax @Nykonax Kylrad @Kylrad Weretarantula @Weretarantula hedgehog337 @hedgehog337 rjfryman @rjfryman Renomitsu @Renomitsu Grape @Grape ngine4 @ngine4 DollarAndADream @DollarAndADream leafsman @leafsman CF Punk @CF Punk pennypenny @pennypenny Spencer King @Spence King flyersfan1453 @flyersfan1453 1 capped TPE goes to: @Corco @Gavin Minton
