Kendrick got a reaction from Brandon in Why come back to the VHL Kendrick?
I was recently asked why I came back to the VHL. It didn't sound like a question laced with negative tones but more so a question that legit was wondering what got me back. Well first off, because I will always be a Hockey fan so it's the sport that primarily got me back. Second off, I've been in this league since day one and though life can throw curveballs at you and you have to take those pitches head on, some things for enjoyment never really leave. For example writing stories and news articles about a fictitious hockey player isn't really that boring, nor is it nerdy. It's no different than authors writing stories about vampires and teen conspiracy theories about werewolves. I simply gave a lot to this league and the fact it's still around is an ode too many members for keeping it going through some of the dark years and battles. Plus making a Be-A-Pro in NHL 2022 can sometimes respire that energy you need to pour into making a VHL player. I genuinely enjoy this place and the people who are in it. But also looking back and seeing number retirements and HOF members who have come back brings me hope that its something passed on for generations. At this stage someone here has to have a kid that's 15 years old on the site? Do we have a second generation member yet?

    1. A new team and new chance to prove myself to a new audience!
    2. I'm hoping to learn more about proper puck possession and the ability to contain the game between the blue lines
    3. The Mexico City Kings, why? Because if you don't have belief in yourself you won't go anywhere but south.
    4. I own 57 Pop Funko's
    5. I want them to know that I have many leather-bound books and sometimes go out with Merlin Olsen.
    6. Dolphins because they are the smartest thing outside of humans, and sometimes humans prove that dolphins are indeed smarter.

    Calen McKay
    Position: Center
    Height: 6'4"
    Weight: 203 lbs

Born in Sweden, Calen McKay came over to the CHL two years ago at the age of 16 in the CHL Import Draft.
He was selected by the Drummondville Voltigeurs and would start his first game with the team when he was only 16 years old. The advantage of coming over young is that he would become accustomed to the North American ice a lot faster if he was over in North America instead of learning on the big ice and only coming over in the professional ranks.

Calen had a very productive career in the QMJHL, where he was able to put up a point per game. McKay's first season in the QMJHL he put up 34 points in 32 games played with Drummondville. His best game was a 5 point performance against the Quebec Remparts. His second season saw him produce 61 points in 63 games for the Voltigeurs before ultimately having to shut down because of Covid-19. McKay was leaned on heavily down the stretch because of his ability to stay healthy and his durable frame helped him stave off any big impactful injuries.

McKay is relatively fresh and young in his development still so the ceiling on him could be much higher than what we've seen. That being said, he does have some weaknesses that opponents were able to capitalize on. His long frame does make for some interesting lapses in the neutral zone as he isn't the most fleet of foot. Smaller, more agile players have used their skill and quickness to get around and limit his ability. McKay will use his size in the corners and along the boards to impose his will though. His greatest strength is his strength in itself because of the ability it allows him to control the puck and contain possession from his opponents. McKay did look like a men amongst boys on the ice but given his lateral capabilities he does need to work on his movement and agility. McKay's junior career was largely a success in the eyes of scouts as he was able to showcase his ability to perform but also like with every young player, they see things that professional coaches can work on. Basing his QMJHL career on his stats alone, McKay projects as a top six forward on a team looking to roll with a big centre that can consistently put up top tier second line numbers. Calen is not a franchise centre and not someone to solely build your prospects pool around. He does possess some very unique qualities and he showed that in junior.

Although I haven't officially been on hiatus for a while, I figured I would jump back into the game. My last player started with promise but my activity tailed off and so did my players as a result. Hope everyone here is in good health and thriving, especially since this new year seems to be bringing some extra punch in regards to COVID. I know first hand what it  is to have COVID as I recovered from it just last week. Double Vaccinated and was looking to go into 2022 with some new optimism and health, but turns out Omicron had its own plans that I wasn't aware of. Anyways its good to be back here and looking to do some damage with my new player Calen McKay. It's been so long since I've been able to talk "shop" with you boys and girls that I was missing it a little. Don't hesitate to chat me up if you see me on Discord. Anyone new around here that I should know about? Anyone I should stay away from because they smell bad? Any new blue team members or management people I should kiss ass to?

    1. Our scoring! The depth no this team in incredible and it shows with a sweep.
    2. About what I expected as a rookie coming into his first game play in the playoffs.
    3. Score more goals and allow less at our own end, that's the meat and potatoes answer.
    4. I would choose Pastrnak because of his unreal ability to find the right open spot for shots
    5. Football hands down. I think because of how quick the plays are
    6. Easy, I get rid of Chicken. It's the least satisfying taste and you can have both the others in a sandwich without having to put sauce on

Oh the places we've gone...in conversation. Shawn and I have a very long relationship when it comes to the VHL. Shawn and I started talking probably close to 10 years ago and it's been fun watching him grow and develop into the strong man he is today. On the board he is quite the character and always chimes in with a great joke. His dedication to his family is something I admire and his work ethic is strong. Shawn is the type of person to pull his socks up and get to work when he needs to come up with something. He has always created some very above average players (he will agree). Both of us reside in British Columbia so we've had talks about all sorts of things related to our province, interests and families. Shawn was a Seattle Everblades teammate at one point (back when I created that team) and he was a defensemen and I'm proud to say a defensive partner for my first ever player Joey Kendrick. If you catch him online give him a shout and tell him a joke, he'll usually have one in response. Everyone raise their glasses to this grade A guy! @TheLastOlympian07

    2. I would rate them very high, he seems like he has a legit chance at taking home extra hardware this season.
    3. When you have someone back there that will make up for your defensive mistakes, it does make it a bit easier to perform under pressure.
    4. I'm new to the team so replacing anyone with me might have been the best decisions but that's just my opinion.
    5. To score more goals and to realize my potential and go after it!

    3. We won't get swept but we won't sweep. Its hard to sweep in the postseason
