  1. Well Killinger has played his final game, I'm now 0-2 with my players when it comes to winning a cup at the VHL level; both of them won championships in the VHLM, both with Saskatoon (S63 and S69), and I understand that my two players played a significant portion on the Legion. I'll admit finishing Killinger's career with some defensive awards was nice, yet there is practically no chance he makes the hall of fame. I don't really care about either of those, but before I leave the VHL I'd certainly like to win a championship with my own player. Peace played with Riga, Davos and Toronto. None of the teams he was on made it to the finals. Killinger played for Toronto, London and Helsinki. Toronto was one win away from the finals, but neither London or Helsinki reached that level. I'm hoping with my new player I can pursue a championship, maybe win a few awards. For Killinger though? That's a wrap!
  2. TORONTO, ONTARIO -- The Toronto Legion have once again firmly stated they're indeed a team from Toronto, Canada. We covered in the past that the Legions' fortunes seem to be linked to their NHL siblings (Toronto Maple Leafs) and their series of a series of unfortunate events; an atrocious 1-16-0 free fall was finally ended by a three game win streak, only to follow up that three game reprieve with a 2-8-0 record in their next ten. The trade deadline rapidly approached and the club decided to make moves that both strengthened their position in the upcoming and following VHL Entry Drafts, while also finally setting some of the roles for players on the Legions' roster that had been waiting seasons for their opportunities. The trade deadline saw Gunnar Odinsson, Erik Killinger and Nicholas Sunderbruch leave the Legion in exchange for a fleet of second round draft picks and forward Guy Lambert. The shakeup appears to have kickstarted a typical Toronto comeback, and we can effortlessly compare the resurgence to literally any Toronto-Montreal game that went to overtime. Down 3-0? 3-3! Down 2-0? 2-2! Toronto is just six points out of a playoff spot with six games left in the regular season, and one of the teams they're chasing [DC Dragons] will face Toronto on home ice in a game that could be pivotal to either teams playoff hopes. The Legions' last fifteen games have been amazing, I'd personally say the team has recovered in a miracle-like fashion after the trade deadline, and have somehow returned to the roots they started the season off on. Toronto had a 10-3-0 record to start their first thirteen games, and in Toronto's latest fifteen game stretch they've improved to a warm and desperately needed 12-3-0 record; let's not spread false hopes though, the Legion have a lot of work ahead of them if they want to reach the playoffs. Of the six games that remain Toronto will face London twice, DC once, New York once, Vancouver once, and Prague once. There are a possible twelve points on the table, and a potentially must-win game against DC depending on the standings. So how have the Legion fared on their resurgence? SS Hornet ( @McWolf ) has exploded offensively! He's got 13 goals, 8 assists and 21 points in the Legions' last fifteen. Addison McLaren ( @tcookie ) has been solid for the Legion since arriving in Toronto. He's got 6 goals, 9 assists and 15 points in the Legions' last fifteen games. Lester Green ( @Smarch ) has been great for the Legion! He's got 8 goals, 9 assists and 17 points in the Legions' last fifteen games. Asher Reinhart ( @rjfryman ) has been reliable for Toronto in his last fifteen games; he's recorded 3 goals, 7 assists and 10 points during that span. Phoenix Dawson ( @Toast ) has been consistent in his last fifteen games; he's earned himself 4 goals, 13 assists for an impressive 17 points. Jon Webber ( @Webberj ) has been enjoying his newfound ice time; he's acquired 5 goals, 7 assists and 12 points in Toronto's last fifteen games. Guy Lambert ( @Spartakiller2 ) has been played a depth role with Toronto, and despite limited ice time, he has contributed with Toronto; he has scored 2 goals and earned 3 assists for 5 points in his last fifteen with the Legion. Scotty Kaberle ( @fromtheinside ) has been a staple on the blueline; he has recorded 5 goals, 10 assists for 15 points in his last fifteen games. Kristof Welch ( @Juice ) has reliably stepped into his role as one of Toronto's top defenders; Welch has earned himself 3 goals, 11 assists for 14 points in his last fifteen. Han Jae Kuk ( @Dtayl ) has been a surprising addition to the Legions' blue line after being acquired at the trade deadline; he's got 17 points, 2 goals and 15 assists. [Oscar is inactive so I didn't crunch his numbers.] And obviously Sirkants Klamasteris ( @hedgehog337 ) has earned himself some wins! 'Klams' 11-2-0 record is largely responsible for Toronto being within six points of a wildcard position. Will they make it? I hope so.
  3. Toronto's winning games?
  4. MIAMI, FLORIDA -- Kyle Peace has played six games in the VHLM already, but his impact was felt almost immediately as the young forward recorded two goals -- including the game winning goal -- in his first VHLM game against the Mississauga Hounds. It was a zero-zero tie nearly thirty three minutes into the game when Kyle Peace intercepted a pass from Hounds' Baby Bob, chipped it back to Vinny Detroit as the play started to develop across the neutral zone. Onside. Detroit over to Peace, Kyle takes the shot! And it missed the net. Don't worry though, Peace Jr collected his own mistake, skates into the slot and wires a shot home. Goal. 1-0 Miami after a defensive zone turnover by the goal scorer, but it wouldn't last long enough to enjoy it. Mississauga tied the game up at just a few minutes later when Andrew Whitemore retrieved a loose puck and fired it towards Flex. It found it's way in and both clubs go back to the dressing rooms tied at one. Third period. Jason Deramo wins the faceoff against Nathaniel Minion, received by Peepants, who moves the puck into the Hounds' zone. Less than five seconds have expired from the clock when the puck was dropped to String Chameleon, then back to Peepants, who finds an open Peace for a quick goal. It's 2-1 Miami just ten seconds into the third period, and that was good enough for the Marauders' as they held onto that lead. Kyle Peace would finish the game with just fourteen minutes of ice time, an average throughout his six games with Miami thus far, but he's certainly made the best out of it. A game winning goal in his debut. His debut represents the best start the Peace Player Agency has ever had, and for a kid looking to step out of his fathers' shadow, it's an excellent beginning.
  5. Well the trade deadline has come and gone. Toronto isn't the same team anymore, yet still features a strong core of forwards and two top end defensemen. We say goodbye to Gunnar Odinsson, Erik Killinger, and Nicholas Sunderbruch as the Legion find themselves too far from a playoff position to really make buying a viable option. Odinsson was testing free agency, Killinger was retiring, and Sunderbruch's team option wasn't going to be picked up. Odinsson and Killinger were the obvious assets to trade, but Sunderbruch might have scratched some heads. Good depth piece and a team option yet we still decided to make the trade... there must be a backstory! It's kinda simple really. Toronto's season has drained any motivation the roster had by the end of our 1-17-0 or whatever it was slide. You win only one game in eighteen and... yeah, you're already done with the season and everything related to it. As a player I didn't even look at the box scores anymore, and as a GM I totally stopped updating the games area on the Legions' Discord. I was done, this season has me feeling really burnt out and honestly just void of any emotions from the sim side. I'm no longer angry a team like Toronto is being shit on when we should have been competing with Chicago and Seattle; Beketov said it best, I suppose. He doesn't know what STHS hates about our roster, but it's hating something. Juice had the concern it was a top heavy blue line, and I agreed with that. The numbers at the time showed we were the second or third best team in limiting shots against Klamasteris, yet we couldn't convert on the shots we were taking and the offense dried up shortly after an awesome 10-3-0 start to the season. Working alongside Smarch and Juice (on and off) we found a potential diamond in McLaren, but obviously that didn't quite turn out like any party involved anticipated. @tcookieis starting to warm up now -- which is great to see -- after playing four games for the Legion without a point. Fourteen games with the Legion now and McLaren has ten points, which means he's scored a point per game in his last ten. Something is clicking there. I hope it continues. I know that trade was a little bit before the trade deadline but it was still involved with the preliminary plans for today. Now the actual trade deadline day... well I was actually unavailable. My aunt had a surgery today that toyed with the wrong side of 'coincidence'. See my Uncle had the same surgery on the same day and later died due to complications, so when we learned that my aunt was having post-surgery complications and the hospital needed to keep her for observations you could imagine how we all felt. So with me unavailable for the majority of the day@Smarch had to take over for Toronto in a true assistant GM fashion. He joked about traded everyone he never had permission to trade, yeah I saw that, but I really need to acknowledge his work today. He wasn't working from home, he was in the office and hiding (I assume) just to check his Discord DMs to keep the trade negotiations flowing. Not only was he at work physically, but he was also training throughout the work day. I really appreciate the work he did today, and I appreciate the time and effort he's given me as the AGM of Toronto. Throughout the day he kept me in the loop but the grunt work was all him. Negotiations, portal movement, discussion with players and everything else he needed to handle in order to make the day work best for Toronto... he did it all! We had a goal to acquire as many picks as possible and Smarch set out and potentially netted us four second round draft picks, Kate Upton (who is inactive) and a steady earning Lambert. Now I may have had some work in the negotiations between Calgary, but the final approval was entirely out of my control. Smarch... you did a fantastic job. Sure we would have liked more for Odinsson, but Lambert and a second -- alongside the conditional second -- was the best offer we were going to get, so we had to trade him before we lost him for nothing. Smarch worked with what he had and made a deal work that suited both teams, and then did it again with Killinger and Sunderbruch. Personally I think Toronto hasn't degraded too much from these transactions, we've got young and prime players on the roster that emulate Toronto at the start of last season... for the most part.

  7. Accept. Played for Saskatoon and Houston already so I wanted to go somewhere new, they may have the opportunity to draft me in the Dispersal.
  8. KYLE PEACE LW | 5'9, 180 LBs | 26 Years Old The Peace surname hasn't seen VHL ice in quite some time, but with the addition of Rylan Peace's son to his own player agency it is now only a matter of time. Kyle Peace has been training for this day, preparing for the moment he declared for the VHLM over other leagues and competitions, assisted by the welcoming split between the facilities provided by the Toronto Legion -- the VHL team his father manages -- alongside the vast knowledge associated with the club through alumni and roster players alike. Despite the help Kyle isn't in an advantageous position, he still has a lot to prove and the shadow of his fathers less-than-decorated career looms above like a growing storm cloud. The pressure from his father to be better will be forever present, long after Kyle hangs up the skates to beyond the inevitable grave, and it just might be this pressure that collapses a promising young prospects' career before he even steps onto VHL ice. The ultimate goal for Kyle is to be better than his father imagined, climb above and out of the shadow casted by an 'above average' reputation left by his fathers' successes (and lack thereof) during his Victory Hockey League career. His father was a good, consistent forward but that never won him any awards and only momentary recognition. One triple digit season had his name on Davos Dynamo jerseys across the league, then the flame slowly died as the career wound down. Kyle is poised to compete against his fathers' stats, and while he may not have the raw talent to achieve the highs his dad did, he certainly has the ability to be just as consistent across a longer eight or nine season career. Unlike other players who started skating at four, five or six Kyle was different than the majority. His interests didn't lie in hockey until he was fourteen years old, a hesitation from the time spent away from his father during his adolescent years, but the raw potential has always been buried underneath that passive aggressive attitude. He quickly developed into a player that his school had rarely seen, and although it was already far too late for him to try out for graded competition, he could still impress enough people to qualify for the VHLM. Through connections with the Toronto Legion Kyle was able to participate in high level scrimmages, practices, training camps... you name it, Kyle was around or present for them. He never had the pleasure of skating for any of Ontario's AAA youth hockey teams, but he had the fortunes to skate with world class athletes almost daily. With access to the rink, and access to the Legion themselves, Kyle has a few major advantages over AAA prospects declaring for the VHLM. He's trained with the speed and pace of the VHL, played alongside and against definite VHL players, and has the experience of accumulative seasons under his belt. Although too young to play VHL games, Kyle has experienced heartbreak and pride alongside his father. But those advantages aren't a substitute for real competitive experience. Can his skills developed alongside a VHL team be enough to hold his weight and his fathers' expectations? We'll see how his career goes, but for now both Sr. and Jr. are eagerly awaiting VHLM offers.

  14. TORONTO, CANDA -- The Toronto Legion started the season 10-3-0 with sky high confidence and soaring morale, but since then they've gone 1-12-0 on a skid that GM Peace claims is the worst he's ever had as a general manager from Saskatoon to Toronto. From a soaring morale to swimming in the mud; from a sky high confidence to bottom of the barrel. The theme of Toronto struggling seems to be a seasonal recurrence, as if the Legions' success is truly bound to the misfortunes (or fortunes) of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs, although the notion seems childish and unfounded… yet the Toronto Legion haven't won a game since their NHL equivalent took a 3-1 series lead over the Montreal Canadiens in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Players of the Legion are in the metaphoric 'dump', and Killinger seems to be the first player to pop under the crushing effects of occupational depression. The scene wasn't necessarily damning to the Legion defender, but security footage clearly showed Killinger erupting after another two losses. He trashed the section of the gym he tends to spend most of his time in, including kicking over an exercise bike before quietly leaving the arena entirely. Medical staff have reported that Killinger suffered no serious injuries during his tirade, although a team representative did confirm the soon to be retired defensemen did inflict some injuries upon himself. They also reported that once calmed, Killinger and a group of Legion staff corrected the gym's state. "I was angry," Killinger admitted. "Might need a therapist." Words weren't on the docket during today's media availability. Few words, short interviews. "We've got to find a way to turn this around," GM Peace sighed. "We're dipping behind in points and we're closing in on the mid point of the season. It's not exactly what we anticipated after a forty win campaign, after what I consider an amazing series against Seattle. It's underwhelming, it's depressing, but I believe if we stay positive and continue working hard eventually we'll be rewarded." "All we can do is regroup and prepare for the next handful of games." Despite an eight game slide there are glimpses of greatness hidden behind the rough road they've been on. Three of the Legions' top five scorers are defenders, and SS Hornet continues to produce despite being dragged down by his own individual doubt. It's a difficult position to be in as a team, the right tools are there but being used improper, so how does the team find the right way to use those tools? Numerous lines have been tried, and strategies have no true effect on the outcome of the game. The only option is to endure. The Legion will endure. Last season they were fueled by motivation to win for recently retired Jaxx Hextall, now they need new fuel to feed off. "It's not me," Killinger muttered. "But let it be for a good cause." "Win For Rookie worked in the second half for Toronto last season, so let's find something else that'll ignite the fire within." But what? Let it be for Green; let it be for Welch; let it be for Kaberle; let it be for Odinsson, or Sens, or let it be for everyone. Sometimes you have to seek what you deserve, and sometimes you deserve something for yourself. So, Legion, let it be for yourselves and one another. Remember. Apes together strong.

  16. Not sure if people would still have enough money for the Jagr on their ninth season... unless of course they did nothing but bank every dollar they earned. It'll be in a position to consider it eventually, maybe. haha Would that jumpstart your career clock even though you weren't VHL eligible for another season?

    Games: 83-99

Damn. Six minutes from time to live stream to games up on the forum. Efficiency.
  18. About twenty minutes ago I realized I still had money in the bank with Killinger -- who is retiring at the trade deadline -- so I figured I might as well buy a couple of PT Doubles and complete the media spots for a combined twelve uncapped TPE. Killinger's build is practically complete, has been for three seasons with London, so I'm not really sure where I'd spend the TPE but I'll figure it out. Maybe toss a dozen points into fighting, or try to get checking to 99 before shriveling up like a grape in the sun near the trade deadline. The league recently announced a third level of competition that slots itself between the VHLM and the VHL, exclusively located in Europe, which is a nice offset to the mixed VHL and entirely North American VHLM within our growing sim community. If we go by Victor's top four picks in his early look at potential VHLE franchises, we can easily see Sweden will be represented more than once with clubs in Vasteras and Stockholm, with teams also in Germany (Cologne) and Slovakia (Bratislava). The following two franchises appear to be undecided, so here is one of my suggestions for the VHLE Commish team to consider: The city doesn't have to remain the same for the history to apply to the franchise, so the logo and name can follow long as they're not marked like two of the teams have been. Don't like the Kolari Panthers because the town is too small, then perhaps moving the team to a different city could represent a wider area of Europe as a continent. Two teams in Sweden, one in Germany, another in Slovakia is a pretty narrow cone, so maybe a team in Finland could represent a more diverse hockey culture. Assume Bern makes it in as a fifth/sixth team and suddenly the scope is larger. As a VHL general manager I'm intrigued to see how this new league will influence VHL teams, VHL scoring, but as a user I am almost certain my recreates will likely never touch European ice in the VHLE league. If I remember correctly Killinger was around 400 TPE by the time he played his first VHL game, and although that means I could have chosen to play in the VHLE, I'd probably have opted to go straight to the VHL had this system been implemented many seasons ago. I will say this, though: the 7% depreciation on a ninth season without the ability to fight it with purchases has got me thinking if spending nine seasons in the league would be worth it, but then those of us who are TPE whores probably wouldn't feel the impact. What it means to me is... well... no more quad digit TPA players, rather I'd find a place to stay and bank the rest so I can fight depreciation more efficiently. I don't anticipate the way salary brackets are calculated changing with the new league and a potential ninth season, which for the record is TPA + Banked, so the very least I would be sticking around the 900 TPA region. That would be my target anyway, but I'm confident I could at the minimum stick above 800 at the low end.
  19. Just out of curiosity but what does gender, age, and what country we live in have to do with recruitment? Just seems like information that really isn't important to advertising VHL to new users.
  20. The breakdown (which was very well done @rjfryman) really puts the VHLE into perspective... in my opinion anyway. Assuming the league continues with that trend, all three leagues will be comfortably populated.
