  1. Congrats, Svobo on the captaincy. Congrats to the alternates as well. Who would have thought in our Turku days we would both go on to captain our VHL teams so soon?
  2. Player Name: Travis Boychuk VHL Team: Calgary Wranglers Cash you have: $10M Purchase Name: Free Week(3M)//Free Week(3M)//Welfare Upgrade(2M) Cost of Purchase: $8M Cash Left: $2M
  3. Boychuk Interview The Calgary Wranglers have a newly appointed captain for Season 39, and with that they hope to work their way to achieve great things. Travis Boychuk, last season's winner of the Rookie of the Year Trophy will look to lead the team going forward. A tough task indeed, but he is definitely ready for the challenge. In Season 38, Boychuk was firing on all cylinders for the Wranglers on the score sheet and he wants to repeat the same as a follow up. If Calgary wants to make the playoffs and maybe do more than that, they will need Travis and company to work to their strengths. Without further ado, I bring to you an exclusive interview with the captain of the Wranglers: Travis Boychuk. VHL.com: You achieved many successes last season as your first in the VHL, is this what you expected? TB: Heading into the VHL all I wanted to do was make my mark, and show that I was ready. I never dreamed of winning the rookie trophy or even being a top player. It is obviously great to win any individual award, but my goals are for the team and not just myself. VHL.com: The Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy is a great thing to be proud of, Travis. What are your thoughts on being the Rookie of the Year and the meaning behind it? TB: It is a great honour to win such an award. There were many other rookies that I thought would have a better year than I did, and I cannot say enough about some of their performances. One year of success is a good thing to have, but I think my career performance is more important. VHL.com: For this season, you also had an appearance in your first All-Star Game in your first ever VHL season. That will get you recognition around the league for sure. TB: Yes, that is something I have been working towards. I do not want to be just another player out there. The All-Star Game is an amazing milestone and experience to have. That game will forever be set in my mind. Although, my performance in the game itself was not what I wanted. VHL.com: You were a superstar back in your days before here, but in the VHLM you seemed to be out-performed by your teammates. How does it feel to be back to stardom? TB: I do not want to get ahead of myself, as this was just one season. In the VHLM, I had a bit of a learning curve in Ottawa and with Turku it was a very deep roster. It is nice to be back to putting up the points I want to, but it is not my main goal. VHL.com: This past week was the Super Cup, and you were one of the many chosen but your team fell short in the semi finals. How was that experience? TB: It was astonishing to be surrounded by so many great players and to be picked was an honour in itself. I was reunited with a couple of old teammates there as well, which was nice to see. The Super Cup is on a whole other level and winning that trophy is another accomplishment I want under my belt. It was upsetting to go out how we did. VHL.com: This off-season you were awarded with the team's captaincy heading forward. Was this something you expected? TB: It is definitely a great honour to captain this team into the future. I have amazing teammates and a good core in the locker room. If I am the leader on and off the ice, so be it. I will not shy away from speaking to the team since we all do regardless. Everybody in that room is allowed to speak up. VHL.com: What do you expect for Calgary in this upcoming season? How far off are you? TB: I expect the playoffs. I want it every year, but that is not something you can get all of the time. Next season I can see us maybe cracking into a final playoff spot and who knows after that. The GM has brought in some key pieces and we had a great draft so if we do not go far soon, we will in the future. This concludes are interview with star centerman of the Calgary Wranglers, Travis Boychuk.
  4. Boychuk debuts in his first All-Star Game. 0 points, 3/6 on the face off dot. 1 elbowing penalty. YEAAAAAHHHH!
  5. You might as well throw Slaughter at center because his faceoff stat is better than mine. Although, if Janssen is at center like you have here I'll have no problem on the dot against him with his 40 rating.
  6. My first VHL All-Star selection in my first VHL season. Should be a great game. Congrats to all of the All-Stars!
  7. Congrats to all of the winners! Yay, top rookie!
  8. Wranglers' Year Review The Calgary Wranglers had an up and down season, and although that was not very surprising there were some positives to look at. With a respectable 28-39-5 record, this rebuilding squad is not far away from where they want to be. Calgary was never expected to make the playoffs at all, so there was some great progress done on development. If the Wranglers are ever going to make the post-season and go anywhere in them then player building will be a huge factor. The fan base here has a ton to look forward to in seasons to come. One of the strongest assets of this club is their goaltender, Martin Brookside. He has been going through some growing pains himself, but posted a pretty good 23-36-5 record this year. Not a bad season for a developing team. Within those games, he managed to achieve a .909% save percentage and a 3.59 goals against average. Calgary last year was a team that could have let in many more goals if not for Brookside. As a side note, he even had 6 assists which says something about his involvement in the team's offense. He can release a nifty breakout pass to his forwards. Heading forward, everyone will be hoping for the same consistency from Martin. -------------------- Martin Brookside in action -------------------- As far as anticipation goes, the fans had it all this year in rookie Travis Boychuk. Nobody really knew what to expect from the centerman stepping into the big leagues for the first time, but he sure did perform. Boychuk had 103 points in just 69 games becoming one of the top scorers in the VHL. His 35 goals were impressive as well. Travis was never an elite-level player in the VHLM but he stepped up to the plate 100% on the Calgary Wranglers. Building the team's offense around Boychuk will be a very interesting situation to watch for anyone. The Wranglers had a good amount of depth this year with forwards Travis Boychuk, Simon Tremblay, Marcus Figgarowta-Nahimal, Henrik Larsson, Lucas Smith, Zach Cuff and Milan El Shaarawy. Tremblay actually led the team in goals with 36 in 72 games beating out rookie sensation Travis Boychuk for the Wranglers lead. Figgarowta-Nahimal had 56 points on the season and Zach Cuff had a respectable 52 points. Not bad numbers for an up and coming squad, but they will need to get better if they want to get further. -------------------- Koji Yamazaki on the Outlaws -------------------- On the defensive side, things were much weaker. Although they were quarter-backed by veteran Godavari Yumalatopinto, this area was easily the biggest problem for the team. Yumalatopinto out-shined the rest of the defensive core for Calgary, coming not far behind Boychuk in team scoring with 94 points. 31 goals is also a nice feat for a defender in the VHL, but despite his efforts the rest of the back end just could not shut down the league's top players. If there comes a time when the Wranglers rise to the top, they will need to acquire top-tier defense. With GY likely departing this may become a bigger problem next season. In this off-season's draft, the GM looked to address the team's main issues through the re-build. The first pick for the Calgary had uprising defensive star Koji Yamazaki become a top prospect for the team at 2nd overall. Yamazaki had outstanding numbers on a deep Turku Outlaws VHLM club earning 128 points in 70 games. This kind of production is what Calgary has been looking for. The young stud in Koji is going to have some pressure on his shoulders once he steps into the VHL, just like Travis Boychuk did. The Calgary brass is confident in his abilities to develop and have them carry over to another level. They have also acquired defender Tony Stark to bolster the D squad while trading D prospect Jack Ryan. ---------------------------- Travis Boychuk celebrates ---------------------------- The Wranglers had another 1st Round pick at 9th overall, acquiring centermant Lukas Nykvist. This up and comer will look to balance out the offense in the future. Calgary did not stop there, picking up left winger Hudson Backenbauer and right winger Mike McGrattan in the 2nd Round. They also drafted another right wing in Dan Cooper in the 3rd Round. With all these promising forwards looking to find a place on Calgary in the future, things are looking bright in cow town. It is difficult to predict how all prospects will find their place, but Calgary's management, team, and fans alike are excited for what the future holds there.
  9. Yeah I'm pretty sure that was the name. Abbreviated CDC, obviously. I think I was at the play test that year or something as well. It wasn't us, but 360 has a CDC team every year as well. I think they're still going strong right now too. I know for PS3, CDC has a couple or a few teams. Cerebral Assasins is one of them, then there's others. After that little bit of time I had on CDC when EASHL first came out, I switched to playing with buddies and have never gone back. I've been the Burnaby Bulldogs for years, mostly a 2 person team.
  10. I'm sure I'll be fine one Line 1 with the guys surrounding me.
  11. Yeah when EASHL first became a thing we played a bunch of games. All of us CDCers, and I remember you for sure as well being Delta Canuckian. I probably would have been around this league as long as you if I knew about it.
  12. Just search threads that have 7's in them.
  13. Yes I am. Although on CDC I'm DollarAndADream for around a year or so now. Which guy are you? I'll probably remember you from EASHL and CDC as well.
  14. Welcome to the league, buddy. Have fun.
  15. Finished. Somehow I found it relatively easy. I sent links as well. Thought maybe that was more proof than pictures.
  16. Game 3: Americans vs Legion Game 3: Dynamo vs Reign Game 4: Americans vs Legion Game 4: Dynamo vs Reign
  17. Boychuk's First Season in the VHL The season has finally ended and there have been plenty of ups and downs for all teams. Every rookie had their chance to prove their skill on their new teams, some outshining others. It is a huge step in a player's career when he makes the jump to the VHL. Some players just do not have what it takes, and some will succeed in big ways. It requires a lot of heart to make such a leap to a talented league like the VHL, and it is very interesting seeing who has it. The Calgary Wranglers are a rising team in the league and looking to be a contender sooner rather than later. They have some of the more important pieces to work around, like goaltender Martin Brookside. He has made a great splash on the Wranglers and with him between the pipes, Calgary is looking for quality up front. They seem to have found this when they drafted Travis Boychuk as he has done way more than expected of him. ------------------------ ------------------------ Boychuk had an outstanding season managing to score 103 points in 69 games played. That is not a feat that many can say they have accomplished. 1st in rookie scoring, and 7th overall in the whole league he has wowed analysts and fans alike. He cracked the 100 point milestone in his first season. On the other hand, he also missed 3 games, and one could argue he may have cracked the top 5 by scoring another 4 points in those 3 missed. As a centerman, he was 3rd in the center scoring race. Mainly a play maker, he earned 68 assists on the Wranglers. Quite the production for a rookie. Nobody expected 35 goals from the passer either. This play maker was 3rd in the league in the assists category, a stunning number for a mere rookie while being only 3 assists away from 1st. Travis has been known since the start as being an elite-caliber passer but he stormed through the gate surpassing his goals. Most analysts expected him step into the league and produce at a pretty good pace, but not what he did this season. His vision and skill easily transferred over to the big stage and he continued to impress his coaches as he did in the past. If the Wranglers needed a play maker, they have most definitely found one in Boychuk. As another great surprise, Travis Boychuk scored 35 goals with the club. He was 1 goal behind tying the Wrangler lead held by Simon Tremblay at 36. All of his off-season training working on his goal scoring touch has looked to pay off in a big way. Although, this will surely balance out once Calgary gains some more talent on the team. Boychuk was heavily relied on with top minutes this season, and did not disappoint anyone while he had taken charge. It should be tough to repeat the 35 goal mark next year as it is not a task he has done very often in the past. One skill he worked on a ton last off-season was his face offs. He knew he had to get better at that aspect if he was going to have any kind of success in the VHL. In his rookie season, he did pretty good for a first timer going 48.29% in the circle. With all of the amazing talent and size that this league has, going close to 50% is not a bad thing. As he looks towards the future, we are sure that he will continue to work on his strength and technique here. ------------------------ ------------------------ Hitting is also not something anyone thought about for Travis Boychuk. He has a slimmer frame and is not a big body like plenty of centermen are, yet he managed to land 110 hits. Bringing this kind of physicality to his repertoire will do nothing but benefit his career going forward. Being in the big leagues, toughness is a trait that every player should at least have a taste of. If Boychuk can bring more heavy checking to the ice, everyone will be pleased. Travis Boychuk was the top rookie producer this season, with 23 more points than the man behind him in Vojczek Svoboda. One would think that hitting 103 points in his VHL debut, he is a shoe-in for the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy awarded to the top rookie. Svoboda, Boychuk and Helsinki goaltender Kimmo Salo look to be the 3 men competing for that trophy, with a player of each type being a nice coincidence. Heading into the season, Boychuk never thought he would go on to win any trophies but we are sure that he will accept whatever praise that is given to him. The Calgary Wranglers and the VHL have witnessed a great happening in the league with Boychuk, and all the fans are hoping he comes back with more of the same next year. The Wranglers have someone to build around up front for certain. This team is not far off from contention in the league, and once they get more balance into their line up they should surely be a threat.
  18. Da Bears. Must have been a sick game with all of those fights and ejections.
  19. This game made a lot of sense. If I don't get 2 points in the last 2 games I'm going to feel robbed of the 100 point mark since I missed 3 games.
