  1. I agree with Kendrick's side. The refs throughout the game and basically the series were brutal. Pretty dumb for them to call a weak penalty like that in the final minutes when they were letting everything else go for the most part. Not a series I cared too much about, as I want the Bolts and Habs both to win. I thought the Bolts deserved a better fate than a sweep, but Lindback didn't play to expectations. For a goalie his size, he sure is out of position often. Gudlevskis was a brick wall after taking over tonight. Stamkos couldn't do a whole lot, and looked still injured. We'll see what happens next year. Drouin should be able to step into that offensive line-up.

  5. The Outlaws Head for the Playoffs The season is over and done with and the playoffs are soon to begin. One of the many interesting stories this season was the number of players drafted to the Turku Outlaws and what would happen as a result. The Outlaws ended the season on a strong note with 6 wins in a row and 9 in their last 10. One player who was exciting to watch this season was Travis Boychuk. After a season on the Ottawa Lynx as a bottom dweller, there were plenty of questions heading into his stint in Turku. Boychuk and the Outlaws finished off on a hot streak and are ready for the playoffs. Being in Ottawa for his first VHLM season, Boychuk had not had the chance to play for the big prize. The Lynx fell just short that season and they had to settle for an end to their year. Now that Boychuk is on the star-studded Outlaws, they are one of a few favourites to win the Cup. "I know I have not been here before, but my team and I are ready. I believe I am ready to perform under any circumstance. I will need to step my game up to another level. We have an amazing group of guys in that locker room and we will be a force to be reckoned with." -------------------------------- Boychuk corrals the puck through the neutral zone. -------------------------------- Travis Boychuk improved his game a ton this season in Turku and it has showed. He has become a more well-rounded player on a stacked squad and produced more often than many had thought. Still mainly a playmaker, but he has found somewhat of a scoring touch this season with 26 goals. "I always believed I could transfer my game over to the VHLM. The only doubters I should have had were people who did not watch me overseas. It is a different game over here and it had taken some time, but I think I have found my place. As long as I continue to make good passes I can produce, but this season my coach and I thought I should try shooting more. I guess you can say it worked out." The Outlaws had many ups and downs throughout their games, but in the end they seemed to have found their spot in the league. They are one of the stronger teams out there and any club will have a great challenge in being their opponent. As long as they continue to play to their strengths and act as a team, they should find success. "We need to remain focused if we are going anywhere this post-season. A few times throughout the season we lost ourselves as teammates and tried to do things on our own. We cannot take that direction on the road to victory. It is not difficult to realize that all of us are just as skilled as the next on this squad and we should not be a puck hog. We must stick to making plays and listening to our coach." -------------------------------- Travis Boychuk posing in the locker room. -------------------------------- The forwards in Turku find themselves behind a very offensive D-core, which helps greatly when it comes to scoring. It takes a big load off of the player's shoulders when a defenseman can make a play and does not leave it all up to the forwards. The Outlaws have plenty of defensemen willing to jump into the rush or dish a sweet pass to a sniper. "The guys on the back end have definitely helped a lot this season. Svoboda, Vlasis and Wylde have been ridiculous this year in taking over games. If they keep playing on the level they have and Svoboda keeps up his spectacular offensive numbers, I feel like we can go anywhere. The way our defense has been this season it has not been hard to receive their passes or find them in an opening. I am very greatful that they make it easier for us up front." Travis Boychuk and the Turku Outlaws will be an important team to follow in these playoffs and many analysts believe they have what it takes to win it all. As always, nothing is for certain and any team can find the gold. What lies ahead will be an exciting time for all. [This is for Sunday night(8:40AM now). Had work and got home now to post it.]
  6. I remember I had a ridiculously hard time with Evrae on the Airship. The battle where you're on your way to Bevelle. I probably played it over 100 times before I beat it when I was younger. This time I did it on my first try. I guess as a young teen I didn't know what I was doing. I've been Blitzballing quite a bit this time around too. Before all I did was the 1 game you have to play and I lost. This time I won that game and just kept playing and hiring new players. Tidus' Jecht Shot is the tits. I really need to pick up inFAMOUS. I just keep hearing that it's a short game so I haven't bought it yet. Plus the game prices in Canada went up $5. Not that that's a huge deal. Just added onto my excuse not to get the game. I loved the first 2 games though, and I guess if I'm playing it on Evil and Good then it's double the play hours.
  7. I would have missed the Playoff Bracket prediction if not for the pop-up. Great tool.
  8. Looks like Backes and Tarasenko are playing right now too. Still a huge loss for STL with Oshie and Berglund out though.
  9. Yeah, seriously. 2 1st Round exits that were basically no shows by Vancouver. They were difficult to watch.
  10. Didn't even realize how many injuries the Blues have... Berglund, Backes, Oshie, Tarasenko. Damn that's a ton of scoring prowess. By the way, you spelled Berglund as Bertglund and you spelled Granlund as Grandlund. Pretty sick games so far in these playoffs. MTL/TB was an exciting OT finish. Nice seeing Weise score for MTL in OT, since I'm a Canucks fan. The PIT/CBJ game was good too, and also this ANA/DAL game so far. It was 4-0 Anaheim and now 4-2 so it's interesting.

  15. Rookie Profile for Travis Boychuk Name: Travis Boychuk Hometown: Dvirkivschyna, Ukraine Birthday: February 5th Height: 6'0" Weight: 190lbs Position: Center Jersey: 23 Team: Turku Outlaws Summary: Boychuk was a relatively unknown forward before the VHLM, but it was not because of his game. Many scouts were just not looking in the right places to find a player like Travis Boychuk. He hails from Ukraine, and it had taken some hard work to travel out of the country and get noticed for the big stage. All of that hard work paid off, and he found himself claimed by the Ottawa Lynx of the VHLM. Travis was walking on quite a rough path in Ottawa, playing for a mediocre team while at the same time trying to develop himself as a player. At the end of it all, he had a good season in the M with 44 points in 56 games. Those are some decent numbers for a guy who did not ring a bell to most. He developed fast as a rookie and ended up gaining attention from all around the league. After his first VHLM season, he was then drafted to the Turku Outlaws. 68 games in, he has surpassed his previous year's point totals with 74 points thus far. Not too shabby for Ukraine's so called golden boy. -------------------------- Boychuk carries the puck across the blue line Strengths: Passing: Travis Boychuk is a top tier play maker. His vision with the puck is on a completely different level than most in the game of hockey. His quick reaction time and pinpoint accuracy when locating his teammates is what separates him from the average player. If you are on his line, you should know what to do: you get open. On many occasions it has become obvious that Boychuk has a knack for threading the needle, much like Joe Thornton or Henrik Sedin in the NHL. He will go to all efforts to find you if you are in the slot, and he is not afraid to take a hit in order to make the perfect dish. "It is like I am playing a video game when I have the puck. I almost have a bird's-eye view and can see all of the open lanes. It's a lot of fun." - Travis Boychuk Face Offs: When one thinks of the perfect centerman, they think of a guy who can win a face off in key situations. Boychuk comes through the fold in a big way in that category. Face offs are an area that Travis Boychuk thrives to work on every single day, and it is very important to him to excel there. While in the juniors, he was one of the most dominant players in the league in the face off dot. His strength and technicality in the circle put him in his own league on that regard. While his skill in the area has not been amazing so far in the VHLM at 57.83%, those are still numbers to be proud of. If anyone knows the kid on a personal level, then you can no doubt look forward to him getting even better on the dot. Getting Shots On Net: He might not be the best shooter in the league, and you can not always count on him to score a goal in key situations. There is one thing he can do as a sure thing though, and that is get the puck on net. On his team so far at 68 games in, he has the most shots on his team with 256. Boychuk is a player who knows what to do with the puck when a chance at making a play is gone. Whenever Boychuk is about to lose to puck, he throws it at the net. Doing so can create plenty of chances for other teammates to score and it will never hurt to get a shot on goal. You never know what can happen in any situation as there is always a chance for success. If there is traffic in front, it makes it difficult even more so for the goaltender to make the save. His shot percent is less than 10, but with 25 goals on the season he has a knack for finding the net. Travis Boychuk can spot garbage with his vision and jam it in when he needs to. These are the kind of things many teams look for. ------------------------------- Travis breaks through a defender ------------------------------- Weaknesses: Defence: Travis is not your typical superstar centerman that is also great at defending. While he is a relatively good defender, he is not your Jonathan Toews or Pavel Datsyuk, Selke Trophy kind of two way forward. There is something to be looked at here though, because he is only getting better as time goes on. He is continually working on his weaknesses every single day. Right now, you can see him getting burned on one on one's if there is a gifted forward coming his way. He might miss a pass block or two which would lead to a takeaway. You won't be seeing him block many shots, at least not this early in his career. This season, he has a whopping 4 shot blocks. While it might not be what a coach asks for in a number one center, sometimes it is a risk worth taking. Skating: Take a second to think of all the players who can fly by defenders in the best leagues of hockey. Players like Pavel Bure or a Matt Duchene kind of leg speed. That is not Travis Boychuk. He just does not have the foot speed to blow by anyone. That is why he resorts to being a play maker. Skating is his weakness. He can skate fluidly and is not the kind of guy to be falling over, but the quickness is not there. Scouts do not know where he missed out when he was a developing youth, but the speed was left behind in his growth. Checking: Travis Boychuk simply put does not have the size to take on the biggest of the VHL. If you are looking for a man who will knock the big boys off of the puck and lay out a big hit, look elsewhere. For a player of his size he definitely has great strength, but he is not much of a fighter. Thankfully, where he lacks in the checking category he makes up for it with his play making and puck handling. Boychuk will stand up for his teammates if he has to, but the tough guys are there for a reason and that is to stop him from doing just that. Taken mostly as a negative, there are some things to be gained from this. While not being able to make big hits, that leaves him from taking more penalties. He does not skate to the box very often. ------------------------------ This is a player you might find has weaknesses right now, but as a rising star he hopes to eliminate all his cons. In seasons to come, fans may be seeing some of these weak spots get crossed off the list. Boychuk is working extremely hard to become an all-around great player for his future in the VHL.
  16. You know, I made a comment in this thread and totally forgot about it. Now it's a few weeks later. I can 100% confirm that the guy in the Islanders jersey was being made fun of because the were up 3-0 and he was wearing the team's jersey. It had nothing to do with Tavares. Canucks had a nice cushion of a lead, the people heckled him for it. Obviously it did no good since the Isles won 7-4.

  18. Travis Boychuk Struggles Travis Boychuk is frustrated as of late, with his team not finding a grasp on a win streak. The kind of dedication he puts into his game, he puts most of the blame on himself. Travis Boychuk: "I am just having a hard time getting decent points lately. It is not like I am not scoring, as I get some here and there.....but it not coming how it did awhile back. The bounces aren't going my way for whatever reason. Lucky for me this Outlaws roster is solid and we have other guys scoring goals while I am not." Something can be said about the type of guy Boychuk is. He really wants to perform throughout his whole career and he puts a lot of effort into his game. The guy spends most of his free time doing hockey related things. It could be a case of needing a breath of fresh air. It is something that we at VHL.com will keep an eye on heading forward. Travis Boychuk: "Through this last stretch here I am hoping to get my game back on track to where I want it to be. Hard work pays off, and I've been working hard."
