DollarAndADream reacted to Higgins in VHL Portal
The portal was lost when our old forum and server went down. After 3 seasons without the portal I am happy to announce that it is back for Season 38. The portal provides an easy way to see a players whole VHL and VHLM career on one page and is very valuable to the leagues interface.

I am also happy to say that we managed to gather enough data to resurrect the portal beginning with Season 21. This means that the portal contains 17 seasons worth of statistics for players starting in S21 up to S37 so far. You can now compare yourself to legends of the modern VHL such as Rauno Pajari or Evgeni Galchenyuk.

There are a few known hiccups with the old stats. Some VHLM seasons also show the affiliated VHL team in the simulation on the stats list with 0GP. When there was a mid-season trade the stats aren't shown for the player on both teams, but the stats are added together to the team the player was traded to. I hope these won't be a problem going forward with S38.

Would people like to see something like this for every team? I'd be willing to work on the creation of such spreadsheets if this post of mine gets 14 likes (not that I'm fishing for likes, I just want to know that people would care to see them so it's not a waste of my time, not that it would be a massive waste of mine time because I really don't mind doing stuff like this).

If Calgary wins their last two games, Winnipeg gets two more points, and the Canucks lose out their final games they could drop to 14th in the conference. HELLO TOP 5 DRAFT PICK, YES I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE ONE OF THOSE PLEASE.

Seeing as everyone is playing great anyways with one line scoring while the other doesn't, it probably won't hurt to mix up the lines.

    Morgan - Boychuk - Ali ? Flip the LW's? I don't know. Doesn't really matter to me.

I feel like since our lines have opposite games where they are "ON", maybe we can find lines where everyone is "ON" all the time?

The Turku Outlaws and Their Depth

After the Distribution Draft, the Turku Outlaws were set to become a team to fear in the VHLM. With a stacked defense and some great forwards at hand, they were ready to fire on all cylinders. Everybody who watches Turku all know what they have on their roster and that they are everything but set to go for the championship. All that needs to come is consistency. Most of these players have never played together before, but with time they sure have gelled. Through the first 54 games, they are 34-17-3 and sit 3rd in their conference.
    -----------------------

Players on the Outlaws look on after a loss
    -----------------------
Although through 54 games, the Outlaws at times still seem as though they are more just a bunch of skilled players than a real team. A perfect example of that is the top line of Vincenzo Valentini and Azi Ali who are centered by the raising star Travis Boychuk. They all seem to score at their own pace, and anyone who has watched the Outlaws play have seen how often one will get points while their line mates do not. Most of the time, when Boychuk is in on a goal, Ali is nowhere to be seen, and vice versa. When you have a superstar like Vojczek Svoboda on your team though, he piles on the assists himself with 76 on the season thus far.

A surprising stat at this point of the season, is Vincenzo Valentini on the top line with only 21 points. A respectable output for sure, but when compared to his line mates it is something to think about. Boychuk has 58 points, and Ali has 60 on that same line and we expect them both to continue their production. The Outlaws are a strong team depth wise and it is not hard to see that every line can produce. The struggles of singled out players are not something to worry too much about, when the rest of the team can fill in the gaps easily.

It had taken them awhile to find their starting goaltender, going through some ups and downs in the beginning of the season. Brock Waldron has come through as the current number one and with some hard work he should get better. With the Outlaws high flying defence core, one can assume that they give up some odd man chances. Waldron has had his own struggles but Turku hopes for him to be solid down the stretch and come playoff time.
    ------------------------------

Travis Boychuk and Dexter Morgan celebrate a goal
    ------------------------------
On the back end, there is something special in Turku that have jerseys flying off the shelves. The top 3 producers on the Outlaws are all defensemen. Vojczek Svoboda, Jake Wylde, and Dimothenis Vlasis are the 1-2-3 punch that have produced throughout the whole season so far. They jump into plays nearly every shift, which is scary for defending when you are the opposing team. If you are a team who can switch up the plays like that, you can easily confuse your opponent and find scoring chances. At the rate they are going, it does not look like any forward on the roster will catch them by season's end.

                                                                                                       GP  G  A   P

    Jake Wylde           54 29 40 69
    Dimothenis Vlasis 54 26 40 66

With such depth and skill throughout the whole Turku Outlaws roster, it is wise to consider them a good shot for the championship. They have great depth at every position. Even the second line has performed admirably, with Dexter Morgan and Mikael Svensson scoring at the same pace as the top line. Every coach will have to question who they throw out to defend which lines, and it will be fun to watch Turku as they play down the stretch towards the playoffs.
    --------------------------

Brock Waldron looks on with his teammates as a shot goes wide
    --------------------------
There are some very strong teams this year, and nobody is truly considered to be a gimme to win it all. With around 20 games left, the race towards the playoffs will definitely be interesting. If any team can go on a streak, it will be hard to doubt what they can achieve. The Turku Outlaws are hoping for that team to be them.

We were recently able to catch up with star center, Konstantin Azhishchenkov, who had some free time away from the team, and he granted us an interview with him over a cup of coffee at the local café.

    Konstantin Azhishchenkov

    1) Are you happy with how the season is going so far both for Yukon and you personally?

After having a season where the team constantly was losing, and missed playoffs by a hair, it feels really nice to be on the other side of the puck. With Yukon, we are battling for first place, have clinched a playoff position, and possibly even contend for the cup. This change of atmosphere is something that I am glad I was able to have here in the VHLM.

Am I happy with myself? Well after talking to the boss in Riga, I was told to develop to be a play making second line center. Personally, I like to score goals, but if the boss wants me to focus on the pass more and creating plays, then I will do whatever it takes for the team.

    2) Since Yukon has already clinched a playoff position, how far do you think Yukon will make it in the playoffs? What team do you think will provide the biggest challenge to Yukon's cup aspirations?

I am not going to make any predictions in hopes that I will not jinx anything, but I will say that we have worked really hard this season, so going home without the cup would really suck, and would definitely be a letdown for both the fans and the team. Our biggest challenge will be coming from the Turku Outlaws. After piling on the players for a run at this season’s cup, Turku has become a team to fear. I hold deep respect for their GM, and their players, and actually hope to face them during the playoffs.

    3) You've been lucky enough to experience both of the Gow brothers as your GM. In what ways are they similar and different?

Yes, I have been very lucky to have been mentored by the famous Gow brothers, the older Gow brother when I played for Ottawa, and the younger Gow brother where I am currently playing for Yukon. I believe that they are both similar in that both are very enthusiastic about hockey and their teams, but the relationship between the older Gow (flyersfan) and me is more of a friendly, professional relationship, while the relationship between the younger Gow (eaglesfan) and me is more of a jocular, best friend relationship.

    4) Have there been any surprise players on Yukon this year (positive or negative)?

Yes, Don Draper is definitely a positive surprise. My agent (D3vilsfire), discussed with me the prospects that were of interest, and he listed Draper at the top of his list. This intrigued me, as Draper was a late entry to the draft with little history; however, my agent proved why he is one of the best scouts there is in the VHLM. Draper has turned out to be a perfect steal at 10th overall for Yukon. The solid defenseman has helped Yukon tremendously, and he works extremely hard to do well for Yukon.

    Don Draper

    5) Do you think Kimmo Salo has what it takes to be a cup-winning goalie?

I do not see why not. Being taken first overall there is a lot riding on Salo, but I think he can get it done.

    Kimmo Salo

    6) If you had to be stuck on an island with one player from Yukon, who would you pick?

Uh, I am not really sure as I have not ever thought about it. I guess it would have to depend on the island to see who would help me the most on it. But I know that Draper would work hard to get us off, so I think I would probably go with him.

    7) Are you excited to move up to the big leagues and be on Riga next year?

MOST DEFINITELY YES! I cannot wait to join the Gow brothers along with many other teammates in Riga. I have made many visits to Riga, and I have chatted with everyone and have spent a lot of time with the fans.

DollarAndADream reacted to AwfulHomesick in Claimed:Yukon and Bern are Running Away
Both locations sit 4,484 miles away from each other. They practically have nothing in common with each other. But in the VHLM, they are pretty much a mirror image of each other. Before the VHLM season began, many experts pointed to the Yukon Rush of the North American Conference and the Bern Royals of the European Conference to make a huge push at a Founders Cup this year. So how have the predictions been holding up? Well, a little over halfway through the season, it's been just that.

Both the Rush and the Royals are leading their respective conferences in points. Both share at least a ten point lead ahead of the second place team, which is just one example of both teams' domination over their opponents. Through 40 games played, the Rush have just one more win over the Royals, with 36. With those wins, they both share four losses, and the Royals have one more overtime loss than the Rush. For goals for, the Royals lead the entire league. The Rush are one of the top teams in that category, but sit just third overall behind the Gladiators. The Rush are seen as a much more defensive team than the Royals, leading the entire league with 71 goals against, 24 less than the Royals' 95 goals against, who sit second overall.

Much of the great defensive numbers for the Rush and Royals can be credited to the play of both young goalie stars Kimmo Salo and Blaine Olynick. Both goaltenders are far ahead of all the other netminders of the VHLM in nearly every stat category. Salo and Olynick are currently tied for first with 35 wins a piece. Salo has an eye opening of only 3 losses while Olynick currently holds only 4 losses. Their save percentage has been fairly similar all season long, as currently, Salo carries a .915% while Olynick holds a .910%. Once the ballot for top goaltender opens up after the season, there's no doubt that the race will be solely between Salo and Olynick.

The main key components in terms of skaters for both teams have come from all around the ice. For the Royals, their top point scorer has been defenseman Ron World Peace. From having a respectable performance last season to becoming the main key to winning for the Royals this season, there is no argument that World Peace is going to become an excellent two way defenseman in the VHL.

For the Rush, leading the way is Konstantin Jaroslav Azhishchenkov (KJA). Despite not leading the team in points, KJA has been the most hard working skater on the current Rush roster. After joining the team through the Dispersal Draft, KJA's play has been making strides game by game. Analysts thought the separation from former Lynx line mate Travis Boychuk would be critical to his production, but KJA has silenced the critics.

Out of the 7 games of the season series between the two teams, the Rush have the lead with a 3-2 advantage. Only one of those games have been contested past regulation, with a shootout win for the Rush. Yukon has scored 19 goals, while Bern has come up with only 12 goals. It seems that the x-factor in these games have been specialty teams. The Yukon Rush are responsible for eight power play goals against the Royals. The Royals power play has only scored a single goal in 17 power plays. The Royals' power play percentage against the Rush (75.76%) is the worst against all other VHLM teams this season.

Most experts see Yukon and Bern continue on through this path of destruction, eventually meeting in the Founders' Cup Finals. With the stats between the two being so close so far, nobody has a conclusive winner if they were to meet. No matter how it ends, it's very likely the series will be one to remember.
