Rhett Stoffiday (#35) Goaltender Birthday: December 7th, 1993 Place of Birth: Nashville, Tennessee, USA Height: 6’0” Weight: 220 lbs. Overview: Rhett Stoffiday is a wall. This 6’ tall goalie, who utilizes a hybrid stance, was drafted by the Yukon Rush in Round 10, Pick 59. He was unheralded, and for good reason. This farm kid from Tennessee isn’t your typical hockey superstar. Stoffiday was welcomed to the Rush with open arms, to be the backup to their goalie, Victor. In a move that Stoffiday credits with kick starting his career, Yukon has decided to make HIM the starting goalie. His greatest triumph came against the Ottawa Lynx, where he played “out of his skin,” winning a hard fought victory again former teammates Sidney Crosby and Ryan Kastelic. It has not all been gravy for Stoffiday, however, posting a 7-20-5 record in his first 32 games. Strengths The Wall: Rhett is a mountain of a man, and when in the zone, he is able to react well and stop pucks. When on his game, he can turn the tide of a game quickly and effectively. Team Oriented: Rhett will go to any length to be a team player, even if it means sacrificing play-time so another star may shine. He is eager to be involved with his team mates, and is often the team “therapist.” Southern Charm: Rhett loves his fans, and participates in all of the team activities to get closer to them, sometimes spending hours just talking and laughing with supporters. He is a courteous and conscientious advocate for whatever team he is on. Weaknesses Speed: Rhett is working diligently to improve his speed. When playing College Hockey at Vanderbilt, he was notorious for being a bit slower than his fellow team mates, but his size always made up for what he lacked in agility. Team Clown: Often, Rhett likes to cut up and make jokes, even in times of serious conversation. This has proven a detriment in some situations, especially when his team mates need to have him at his most serious. He is working hard at this, but sometimes fails to be serious, affecting his game. Leadership: Rhett has always had a hard time accepting that he may one day be a leader of the teams he is on. He has a hard time making tough decisions for his teams, as he doesn’t want to hurt feelings. He sometimes gets upset with confrontation, and needs to distance himself from it in order to refocus. Conclusion: Rhett Stoffiday, on his best day, is a formidable contender and an excellent goaltender and team player. He works as hard as he can for his teams and his cities, but sometimes doesn’t trust in his own abilities. He is very aware of his shortcomings, and has a lot left to prove. With time, he believes, he will reach the elite ranks of the VHL, and have a long and wonderful career.
