  8. Vyacheslav Smirnov, let me tell you. Your fucking first name is a bitch to write and in the depths of a couple after work vodka's prior to my girlfriend getting home and helping her cook stir fry, it's tough. It should be an easy concept, but I have a feeling for a real good portion of his career, it won't be. Let's start this amazing, wonderful tale about a potential prodigy on our hands off by telling you of where he was born. St. Petersburgh, Russia is where he is fortunate to call home and if you know how the Russian's work, it's that they wish to be the best at everything. I mean, their leader or man in charge plays hockey and is skin and bones, old as fuck and blah. At a young age, some of those kids who possess extreme talent, or wish to, are place into systems where they can truly develop their asset, roles and talent and truly become something for themselves, but mostly the country. When we look at Smirnov, this is what you get. Not only are his hands slick, but so is his name, so are his abilities to finding the net and so is his heart for the game of hockey. Probably, at the end of the day, you can thank Russia. Or Smirnov? Or both? He grew up in a wealthy household. His mother was a doctor, his father was a part of the government. Those close to Putin probably have a better chance of succeeding and his father likely knew it, but his family was always deeply involved in politics and have always shared greatly in money. The World Cup of Soccer for 2018 is only a couple of days away and unless you're blind, or maybe don't live in Russia, you'd know that the Smirnov family is a sponsor of the Russian team and love to get their name out. For their son, soccer was never a thing but from a young age, he possessed the skill and extreme passion for the game of hockey. By the age of 3, he had his first pair of skates on. What the fuck? For a prodigy that sound pretty young. Right? I don't know. But he quickly picked up the game, dominated at a young level and was quickly pushed up a grew due to his skill. While the hockey talents, scouts and personal management seen his skill, they figured it was best to challenge him. You either continue to dominate at your level or you find a way to become better. Fortunately, he did. His parents placed him into a young school, that had one of the best hockey teams in the entire country for developing youth. While his academic's were extremely important and he always did strongly in school, hockey was always the focus. He continued at this school for th next 10 years, and if you care - he attended from the ages of 6 to 16. Each year, he strongly progressed in his schooling and hockey and each year found himself being one of the brightest students, but easily, the best hockey player. For this, he always wore the "C" on his chest and led the team in pursuit of championships. The pursuit didn't seem to be too tough, as year in and year out, the team found a way to win - whether it was stellar goaltending or an amazing, team performance led by Smirnov himself. Of the 8 seasons in the league, he won player of the year 5 times - 3 of them coming in his finals 3 seasons. He was ready. He was willing. He wanted to become a hockey player and play the game for a lifetime. Following his years in school and after graduating at the age of 17, he moved onto the Moscow's RHL team. It was a league lower than the KHL, but strictly was for the purpose of drafting into the KHL and sometimes, leagues beyond. He knew his heart to play was in North America, where hockey seemed bigger and so did the passion. During the season, he played for the Moscow Renegade and completely tore the season apart. Through 72 games, he managed 60 goals, 39 assists and 99 points. While his point total was 2nd best, he led all goal scorers by 15 and truly claimed his right as a dominant sniper on a mission. For the first time in his life, he seen playing in the big leagues, a league that really mattered, a reality. The following year, he joined Moscow once again and found a way to bring it home. This time the team went all the way to the championship, hoisted the cup and seen Smirnov take off MVP of the playoffs. Along with this, his won the Ovechkin Trophy for leading goal scorer with 63 in 72, and managed to get the Bure trophy for most points with 114. It was a year, to say the least, that his dreams were starting to come true. Now he sits, lying in bed, waiting for a phone call from one of the VHLM teams to pick him up. Rumour has it, he'll be playing for the Seattle Bears if he does happen to come over to the big leagues in North America and give it a shake. However, it does come with pressue and anxiety on his shoulders. Feeling for him, his mother was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, which likely won't be able to regress. Knowingly, he's still willing to make the trip to North America to conquer his goals. While some may see this as poor growing up, it's his mothers goal to see him success and has pushed him out of the door in hopes she can see him make it big, watch him play on tv and live out the life he's always wanted to life. He knows he doesn't have a lot of time with his mother, so he knows he's going to come stronger, play big and truly make her proud. At the end of the day, you can see him on the TV in Russia and just the look in his eye says, Are you watching 'Ma? +10 Vyacheslav Smirnov 1,044 words?

  10. Vyacheslav Smirnov - Not like the Vodka, but just as good? Player name: Vyacheslav Smirnov Position: Center Number: 93 Height: 6'1" Weight: 203 Birthplace: St Petersburg, Russia What do teams look for when they're drafting a player? Well, for VHLM GM's, it's all about that TPE. Unfortunately for Smirnov, the draft is coming up on Wednesday and is unable to partake in the draft as he becomes eligible for the league on Thursday. So, he enters the waiver system and likely will be able to choose the team he wants to be on. Lucky for him, his agent is also part of the Oslo Storm system and furthering, has close ties to Head GM, LaFlamme. For the VHL, while they tend to look at who is most active and of course, TPE, Vyacheslav Smirnov is a GM player - and for them, that's likely too bad. If this wasn't the case, there's a very strong chance that he would be high on each teams radar and would likely go pretty high in the draft. Not only does the Banackock have efficient signs of consistency for creating good players, but Smirnov is boasted in Russia as being the next big thing to hit the Victory Hockey League. While we are getting ahead of ourselves, let's break it down for you, shall we? Positives Scoring and offensive ability - He's a shoot first kind of guy and has said again and again that Alex Ovechkin has been a hero for him. Growing up in Russia, it's easy to cling onto such a strong player in North American hockey and for someone who likes to snipe top cheddar, there's probably nobody better than Ovie. His shooting ability is stronger, but his offensive side can take over at times. Look for him to be a mixed breed, but heavily favour the ability to shoot. We expect big things in the goal department from this kid, so all eyes are on for that red light to be going off. Skating - His feet move better than most that we've seen in recent years and it's something that he strongly prides himself in. He's taken numerous camps, classes and lessons and from time to time can even be caught in the act at figure skating lessons. We're not talking the strong twirling, though we have seen him do it. To be a strong player, a dominant scoring force in the VHL, you're going to be able to need to skate. Watching his progression here is going to be needed. Dirt Dangles - Puck handling is another thing he's got. You ever see those videos of little Russian kids dirt dangling all over the fucking ice making those pylons there bitch? He was one of those kids. You could call him a Russian prodigy looking to make a strong name for himself. He's got the hands that a hockey god gave him and of course, these compliment each of his strong attribute stats. Of the 3 positives he's got, this could be a neck and neck race to which asset becomes better. Negatives Face off - We're not really saying it's a negative. There's no negative sides to Smirnov at this point, but if he wishes to go higher, Face off's are something he's going to need to focus on. He's the guy in the middle for the Seattle Bears and will likely find himself in the middle of Matt Thompson and Sergei Federov as long as things pan out for the Bears. It's a huge position and he needs to be that guy they can count on. Question is, will he? Likely so. We're not worried. Fighting - He's a bitch when it comes to fighting, but was there ever a russian who was really good at this? At some point, you say what the fuck? Kick some ass. Drop the gloves - which we're sure he will at some point. But he isn't the fighting type. He leaves the fighting for the goal scoring and does all the talking there. Be ready. Checking - For the kind of player he has stated he wants to become, his checking isn't anything crazy and his strength is likely something to do with that. We want him to be a dominant guy who doesn't get taken off the puck, is able to crash those boards - back check, forecheck, and he's going to need strength. At the given moment, you can likely expect to see him play a less physical game and focus on different aspects of his game. Ending thoughts At the end of the day, the Bears really hope he becomes effective but the worry for him to become something strong TPE wise isn't really there. He's with an agency that really put a lot on their players to put in the work, given the position of his agent. We expect Smirnov to be full throttle ahead - earring the TPe, getting every chance he can to improve himself. It's a win/win for the league. If we could, and we're going to try right now at guessing his rookie season, but with Thompson growing and Kovalev going to be stepping up in Smirnov's rookie year, we'll put him at the 80 point, 40 goal range. Maybe a little off - but close to there. +8 Smirnov (claiming when recreating). 882 words
