  1. :que: Guntis Gavilrovs S93 Rookie Experience :que:

    GALV.JPG

In season 93 for the Vancouver Wolves 6'8" 250 pound Latvian rookie defenseman Guntis Gavilrovs broke into the VHL after a huge season in the VHLE for Stockholm that saw him win the Jake Thunder Trophy as Defenseman of the Year. Expectations were high but tempered making the jump into the pros. Guntis knew he had the size to make his mark physically but catching up to the speed and skill of the game would probably be his biggest adjustment. He would join 4 other rookies in Vancouver alongside Logan Ninefingers, Riley Martin, Vlad Von Carstein and DB IV which made his transition a little easier.

    Seasons Goals

His goals for his rookie season were to carry over his hard-nosed physical play from juniors and contribute some offense while not being too much of a liability on a rebuilding Vancouver team. Of course, Gavilrovs always has his sights set on the playoffs but realistically the Wolves were not a favorite this year. Therefore, his main goal was to continue to develop his all-around game while knocking the living shit out of everyone in the process.

How Guntis Adapted to the Pros:

Gavilrovs adapted reasonably well to the pro game in terms of physicality and shot blocking but he struggled a bit with the speed of the game and took a lot of penalties. He contributed respectable offense for a rookie defenseman, but his plus minus was atrocious, by far worst on of any defenseman on the team. Even with Vancouver being in kind of a rebuild his -40 is something that he needs to work on going into his sophomore season, along with being more disciplined. Otherwise, he was pretty good and adapted well to the VHL.

    How Gavilovs Performed:

Guntis posted great physical numbers and blocks for his rookie season. His 253 hits and 164 blocks were both #1 on the team. He also had 191 penalty minutes which unceremoniously were also #1 on the team. He played a very mean physical game, always looking for a big hit and had a major edge getting into 5 fights and always sticking up for his teammates. He also posted respectable offensive numbers with 7 goals, 28 assists for 35 points including a handful on the powerplay. Overall, it was a great physical season for the big defenseman with solid contributions across the board.

    Future Expectations:

Heading into his sophomore season Gavilrovs needs to continue his intense physical play and shot blocking while improving his overall defense while he tries to chip in a little more offensively. There's no question that he has the intangibles to become one of the best defenseman in the league, certainly one of the best defensive defenseman and the meanest, which is something he takes a lot of pride in. He just signed a long-term extension with the Vancouver Wolves and will be head hunting opposing players for years to come. Take this as your warning VHL. Guntis Gavilrovs has arrived!

  2. It was a decent season for the rebuilding Vancouver Wolves who ended up narrowly missing the playoffs even after becoming sellers early on in the season. With a record of 28-35-9 they finished with 65 points only 3 points back of the final playoff spot in the North American Conference. Not bad for a team that had 5 rookies and only one real superstar player Liv Slater for most of the season. What the Wolves do have is numerous budding stars on the roster who all turned in strong rookie seasons and make up a great core group to build around. Logan Ninefingers, #1 draft pick in last seasons draft, led the way with 32 goals, 63 points and 242 hits, this guy is a future mvp for Vancouver. Riley Martin wasn't far behind with 29 goals, 55 points and 321 shots, he super skilled and will form a dangerous tandem offensively for years to come with Logan. Behemoth bruising defenseman Guntis Gavilrovs is going to make everyone hate playing against Vancouver with his 253 hits, 191 pims and 164 blocks to go along with 35 points, this beauty plays a mean game. Fellow rookie dman Vlad Von Carstein flashed his offense in a big way with 45 points and showed a strong two way game with 153 blocks as well, this guy can do it all.  Young goaltender Dalkr Vidarsson held the Wolves in many games this season and turned in good numbers with a .913 SV% and 25 Wins, defnitely the goalie of the future for Vancouver! Many other Wolves players contributed good seasons as well, this is just a snippet of the young core that should lead the way for years to come. Like a wolf on a fresh kill, Management is salivating over these guys potential.

    Season Ending Awards

Every season at the end of a season we look back and wonder what could have been but also a time to look back and say wow, we had some great performances this season to be proud of. It is no difference this season as Vancouver Wolve are set to handout some much deserved awards later tonight (already written btw) So, have your say before the awards are officially handed out and generally pat each other on the back for a good season while thinking what we can do better next season!! Either way……Answer three questions for one TPE or all six for two TPE. As always have fun!!

    1.     Who do you think was the team MVP this season? Why?

    2.     Unsung hero is such a hard award to hand out so why don`t you tell me who you think our unsung hero was this season and why?

    3.     With seven rookies on the team it made it feel more like a episode of survivor when trying to determine who the ROY should be for the Wolves; Who do you think is this season ROY? Why?

    4.     Three Stars award is always interesting so without looking at the awards, who do you think won the 3 Stars award this season and why? (it might surprise you)

    5.     Clearly Liv Slater is going to win a few awards tonight so which awards do you think she took home?

    6.     Looking ahead to next season, What do you think the team needs to make the playoff next season?

    New Season Please!!

    1. Liv Slater, put up another huge year in all categories and was our best player.

    2. Would have to say our goalie Vidarsson, faced a ton of rubber, kept us in a lot of games and didn't always get the most help in front of him.

    3. Logan Ninefingers would be my pick, got hot and ended with a lot of points and tons of hits. Absolute beast.

    4. Assuming this is players with the most appearances in the 3 stars, I would say Slater, Ninefingers and Martin.

    5. MVP for sure and top dman, then probably some others as well

    6. We need our young D to continue to improve in the defensive zone and maybe add a couple high end forwards, then stick with it for longer before becoming sellers.

    Momma!! It`s over!!

Regular season is wrapping up tighter than your grandma where yoga pants and at the moment Vancouver Wolves are seven points back of the Calgary Wranglers for the final playoff spot. Yeah, we aren`t making it!! So this feels very much like an end of season press conference or is it more a end of season celebration!! Those questions and more in this weeks presser. Answer three questions for one TPE or all six for two TPE. As always have fun!!

    1.     Vancouver Wolves hold the Calgary Wranglers 1st overall selection in this season draft, so are we cheering for Calgary or are we cheering against them?

    2.     Chicago Phoenix are three points back of the final wildcard and lost five straight games; Which NHL team does this remind you the most of during the final weeks of the regular season and why? (Detroit, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh or Washington)

    3.     Are you interested in the VHL Playoff even if we are eliminated? Why or why not?

    4.     Both GM & AGM have players in this season draft; who gets drafted first and why?

    5.     What would your grandmother look like in Yoga pants or should men wear yoga pants?

    6.     Riddle: What can be lifted but not throw?

    @Frank@RileyL@JetsGoalie101@Smarch@Scurvy@Dom@Girts@okochastar@Cwalker@Minebro@Tipskid97@Subject056@wcats@KaleebtheMighty@Gaikoku-hito

    1. First off it's a Canadian rivalry so we are cheering against them, secondly the worse they do the higher we pick so I hope they get swept.

    2. Philadelphia Flyers cuz they shit the bed the last couple weeks of the season.

    3. No I could care less now, actually I guess I am interested to see Calgary lose. Oh and Moscow also.

    4. Whoever has more tpe or the position we need more, you both better end up in Vancouver so make it happen!

    5. I will never forgive you for putting that image in my head. Would look real bad and No.

    6.  An elevator.

  5. Guntis Gavilrovs here again to talk about Guntis Gavilrovs! As we approach the end of the season, 5 games left, the big rookie defender for Vancouver is on track to hit all his personal goals for the season despite a slightly down year for Vancouver in the standings. Coming into the season as primarily a physical defenseman Guntis had set some goals he wanted to reach that would prove to himself he was becoming the type of VHL player he wanted to be. These goals were 250 hits, 150 blocks and 30 points. He's already reached two of these goals and is on track to hit the third in the remaining games, although I'm sure I just jinxed it now.. Gavilrovs currently has 33 points, 240 hits and 159 blocks, so all he needs is to average 2 hits a game in the last 5 games and he should reach all his goals. He's proven he can hold his own in the VHL and while there's room for improvement in some areas (-39 rating and 176 pims) his performance in the physical categories and his ability to block a lot of shots along with posting 30+ points as a rookie Dman has to have Vancouver fans, teammates and management excited about his future. He surely is.

    Trade Dull?

The trade deadline has been rather dull with a total of three trades as I write this press conference so what have you thought of the trade deadline so far and Playoff chances for the Wolves are still a thing so what do you think the chances are that we see some post season action? Those questions and more in this weeks presser. Answer three questions for one TPE or all six for two TPE. As always have fun!!

    1.     As mentioned, it has been a dull trade deadline but Moscow made a trade to collect a top defender in Kronchy Kardashian for a depth defender Celise Pereira and S94 DCD 1st; what did you make of this trade overall?

    2.     Helsinki Titans was also involved in the only other trade of note so far by shipping off Fuukka Rask to the Da Bears for bunch depth players; two 2nd and two 3rd round picks; usually depth players so what did you think?

    3.     Vancouver Wolves are currently six points back of Chicago for the final Playoff spot; Do you think we can make up the ground in the final 20 games and make the playoffs?

    4.     Playoff or No Playoffs, what are your overall thoughts about this season?

    5.     Did you watch any of the Zoo Tycoon 2 Ultimate stream from Beketov or will you watch any of it later? Why or why not?

    6.     With Playoff around the corner; it means the weather is becoming nicer; what are you looking forward to the most?

    @Frank@RileyL@JetsGoalie101@Smarch@Scurvy@Dom@Girts@okochastar@Cwalker@Minebro@Tipskid97@Subject056@wcats@KaleebtheMighty@Gaikoku-hito

    1. I don't think much of it because usually the Moscow Meanies make bad moves so it's probably a better move for whoever they traded with.

    2. Fuukka Rask is a great name so that's cool but he was traded from his home country team I'm assuming so he's probably not overly thrilled about it but I have no idea.

    3. Yes absolutely we can because we rule and are the best, we will make the playoffs because we are the goddamn Wolves.

    4. I think it's been pretty fun, lot of young guys playing good minutes and getting experience, we're not that bad either and are in the mix for playoffs.

    5. No I did not watch any of it, this guy is always tagging me on stuff but I don't know him so I didn't tune in. Also I think zoo tycoon is for old people who can't use computers well.

    6. I am looking forward to getting outside more and going hiking with the nicer weather, but bugs suck so it's always a trade off.

  7. Guntis Gavilrovs has put together a pretty solid season on the blue line for the Vancouver Wolves this year as the rookie continues to develop his two-way game. With a team leading 168 hits and 120 blocks he's showing he can be a physical and defensive force out there but with 136 penalty minutes he needs to be more disciplined. The team needs Guntis on the ice not in the box, so the big Latvian will have to find a way to keep a cooler head out there while still playing with an edge. Gavilrovs' offense is coming along as expected and with 5 goals and 18 assists from the blue line he can't complain. That's something he plans to work on in the off-season. An area that could use improvement right now would be his plus/minus because it's definitely not great at -28 but on a rebuilding team we're not going to get too upset about it for now. He's been great in other areas so it's more something to keep an eye on as the team improves. Gavilrovs has definitely shown he can become a force in the league and with continued development he should no doubt become a star for Vancouver in the coming seasons. Lots of great future stars in Vancouver, it's the place to be!

    1) LA is off to a 1-36 start, how many games do they win this season?

    2) Where would you go for your dream vacation?

    3) Do you follow sports outside of the "big 4" in north america (NHL MLB NFL NBA)? if so, what's your favourite?

    1. LA's record is pretty amazing, I think they can win 5 games this season, maybe.

    2. I would leave my wife home and go to Brazil for that carnival festival.

    3. I follow NCAA Hockey and OHL a bit and some NCAA Football. I'd say Hockey is my favourite.

    Questions:

    1. What 2 teams would you like to see play in this year's Stanley Cup Finals if you could choose any two teams in league?

    2. How is your player doing this season in the VHL/E/M?

    3. What are you looking forward to about spring?

  9. The Vancouver Wolves fab 5 rookies are putting up strong seasons as they try to push their team into the playoffs during the second half. Ninefingers, Martin, Gavilrovs, Von Carstein and DB IV are contributing well as their pro game continues to take shape this season.

Riley Martin: The slick winger has stayed hot since our last check in with 26 points and 14 goals in 38 games. His game is rounding into form and opponents need to take notice of him every time he steps on the ice.

Vlad Von Carstein: The offensive Dman continues to put up points at a great pace now with 22 in 38 games! His two-way game is developing well also with 82 blocks and 44 hits on the year. The young star can do it all out there.

Logan Ninefingers: The big power winger has been on a torrid pace the last vaulting himself to 27 points in 38 games including 12 goals and 93 hits. Rumor has it he may be having a finger surgically re-attached so watch out in the second half!

Guntis Gavilrovs: The behemoth defender continues to destroy people with 128 hits in 38 games but we speculate it's even more than that and sths couldn't keep up. He has 91 blocks and much like his junior career is posting strong offense from the blue line with 5 goals and 17 points so far! After recent rumors it will probably be a while until someone dares drop the gloves with Gavilrovs.

DB IV: He's finding his way out there against top competition and has shown a solid defensive game when called upon with 41 blocks, 28 hits in about 15 minutes a game. He's even added some points too! Continued development should see him settle into a nice role in the pros.

Strong seasons so far for all these guys in their respective positions and roles. If this group can keep up the current pace and even improve on it, we don't see why the Wolves can't get into the post season!

    Who`s the Fool?

This past week started with a bang with a bunch of trades, announcement of le Captains and maybe a few jokes being played around the league; which is right up my alley; since it was April Fool’s Day!! So, Let get into the exciting week and discuss what happened:Answer three questions for one TPE or all six for two TPE. As always have fun!!

    1.     Major trade ended the previous week as Vancouver Wolves shipped Larry Abass Jr @RileyL and Jens Lekman @Bobcat to Calgary Wranglers for Thor Odinson @GoalPlays and S94 CGY 1st; who won the trade and why?

    2.     Vancouver Wolves have struggled to start the season so are you still confident that Vancouver will turn it around and make the playoffs?

    3.     Playoffs, Yeah, I am talking about playoffs!! With the NHL playoff only a few weeks away, is your team going to make the playoffs and what do you think of their chances of winning the cup?

    4.     Fools day came and went with a few jokes being played, what one did you like and which one might have caught you out? (League embezzlement, Fake trade, GM stepping down etc..)

    5.     What did you think of the Fake trade involving Vancouver Wolves and the Moscow Menace; where Vancouver shipped off newly announced Captain Liv Slater @Subject056 to Moscow for S94 WAR 1st & S94 MOS 1st? Would this be a trade that you would complete? Why or why not? Did this joke caught you out? Why or why not?

    6.     Captains have been announced so what are your overall thoughts about the new Leadership group being announced with Liv Slater @Subject056 as Captain, Left Alone @okochastar & Sunglasses Joyo @JetsGoalie101 as assistants?

What is the next event on the Calendar for most?

    1. Big trades for sure. I think management said hey it looks like we're probably not going to contend even with these guys in the line up so let's cut bait early get some more picks and let our young guys get some experience playing top roles.

    2. Honestly I still think we can sneak into the 4 spot, that's my goal.

    3. I always think my NHL team will make the playoffs and win the cup so when they don't I can have an excuse to be upset and yell at my wife.

    4. The league embezzlement one got me at first for a couple paragraphs then I realized the date lol

    5. I didn't like it and believed it for a second. I thought it was a bad trade because Liv Slater is the man and we need him to lead us to a cup.

    6. I think we have a good group of veteran leaders so I am happy with it, however I would like to vote next time, maybe I can do a write in ballot cuz no discord lol.

  11. Vancouver Wolves hulking defenseman Guntis Gavilrovs is off to a physical start in his first 24 VHL games as a rookie throwing a team leading 82 hits and absorbing 60 blocks! He's shown a strong defensive game and even added some offense with 2 goals, 9 assists for 11 points. The 6'8 250 pound blueliner has also spent 62 minutes in the penalty box as he's stuck up for his teammates and been hard on opponents. Gavilrovs shows no mercy in front of the Wolves net and repeatedly hammers opponents who try and create traffic in front. The big Latvian's game continues to impress in his rookie season even if the Wolves aren't off to the best start. This team has a ton of rookies and are all developing well and getting good opportunities under the exceptional Vancouver Management staff. Logan Ninefingers 15 points and 52 hits, Riley Martin 14 points and 111 shots, Vlad Von Carstein with 22 points from D and 56 blocks, DB IV with 1 goal and 21 hits. Gavilrovs and the Wolves are tough to play against and will no doubt put together some wins as their talented young group gets more comfortable with each passing week.
