    Off-Season bore!!

While I know a lot of individuals find the off-season rather boring as do I at times; it can also be one of the most exciting times for players and managers a like as trades, drafts and tournaments can keep things very interesting. Behind the scene the Wolves Management have been busy this week and most likely will be busy right up until the start of the season so lets talk about some of the moves that they have made already this off-season and what you think of the “New” team. Answer three questions for one TPE or all six for two TPE. As always have fun!!

    1.     What do you think of adding a veteran like Left Alone @okochastar to our young core will provide this season?

    2.     Six Rookies enter this season; who is going to lead the pack? Why?

(Riley Martin, Logan Ninefingers, Mikko Borisyuk, Vlad Von Carstein, Guntis Gavilrovs & DB IV)

    3.     Vancouver Wolves have been at it again adding two more veteran players in Sunglasses Joyo @JetsGoalie101 and Larry Abass Jr @RileyL; what do you think of the overall trade and do you think Vancouver gave up too much for these veteran players?

    4.     Out of the six rookies which rookie is likely to win the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy? Why?

    5.     With all the additions this season, what does success look like for the Vancouver Wolves this coming seasons? Why?

    6.     Draft day is coming soon so Who should the Vancouver Wolves draft at the fourth overall selection? Why?

Bonus: If Vancouver Wolves make the playoff this season does Frank win another David Knight Trophy or does Vancouver need to go deep into the playoffs?

    @Frank@RileyL@JetsGoalie101@Smarch@Scurvy@Dom@Girts@okochastar@Cwalker@Minebro@Tipskid97@Subject056@wcats@KaleebtheMighty@Gaikoku-hito

    1. I think he will add much needed experience and a high skill set which should help us push for a playoff spot

    2. All talented high upside rookies, anyone is capable of breaking out but I'd have to say #1 pick Logan Ninefingers will be the standout this season.

    3. I think it's a solid trade that improves our current roster, so as long as management think it was the best move then I'm on board!

    4. Assuming that is the rookie of the year trophy.. then again I'd go with Ninefingers, but if it rewards hits then I'd say Gavilrovs.

    5. I think with the recent moves and our experienced coaches we can definitely push for a playoff spot. I have confidence in our group.

    6. Lots of great players available but probably another high end forward, someone with a good all around game.

Bonus: I think we can do it, winning a round would probably make him a lock for the trophy, so I'm not counting him out. Then again I have no idea what the trophy is for but Frank is awesome and should win everything.

  2. VHL Prospect Scouting Report

    adam-edstrom-2023-48AAAAAAAAAAA.jpg

    Name: Guntis Gavilrovs

    Position: Defense
    Birthplace: Ogre, Latvia
    Height: 6'8"
    Weight: 250

VHLM Draft: 12th Overall - Houston Bulls
VHLE Draft: 3rd Overall Stockholm Vikings
VHL Draft: 7th Overall - Vancouver Wolves

    VHLM Stats: GP: 72 - G: 27 - A: 43 - P: 70 - PIM: 44 -  HIT: 187 - SB: 79

    VHLE Stats: GP: 72 - G: 17 - A: 61- P: 78 - PIM: 204 -  HIT: 295 - SB: 184

Guntis Gavilrovs is a monster defenseman who is about to make his VHL debut for the Vancouver Wolves in season 93. After putting together a phenomenal minor league career in Houston and Stockholm there is a ton of hype and expectations surrounding the behemoth blueliner when he hits the ice for Vancouver in S93.

    edsf4.JPG

    Minor League Career

Gavilrovs started his minor league career in Houston in the VHLM after being drafted 12th overall in Season 91. He quickly became a fan favorite with his play style, throwing thunderous checks and hammering home slapshot goals from the blue line. The goal in his first season was to make a name for himself with his elite physical shutdown play, which he did, but his offense game developed much quicker than everyone expected. Gavilrovs lead the VHLM in goals by a defenseman with 27 in S91 and racked up 70 points in the process along with 187 hits and 78 blocks. An exceptional season for the big Latvian as he was one of the top defenseman in the entire VHLM and prospective GM's in the next level VHLE took notice.

Guntis was then drafted 3rd overall in the Season 92 VHLE draft to the Stockholm Vikings, who obviously were impressed with his play in the VHLM and knew they had to get him to lead their blue line. Gavilrovs not only led their blue line but he led the entire league in numerous categories while helping Stockholm to a strong season and 3rd place finish. Gavilrovs led all defenseman in points with an incredible 78 and the entire league in assists with 61. He also led the league in hits with 295, penalty minutes with 204 and was among the top in shots blocked with 184. Once again he was a physical force while adding high offense, which surprised even himself, but no question he has the offensive game to compliment his elite shutdown capabilities.

    Strengths

Checking:  Hitting is definitely the strength of Gavilrovs game, he uses his size to absolutely obliterate opponents and is a beast in the corners as well as in front of the net. Racking up 482 hits during his 144 game minor league career there's no question he has an elite physical game.

Goals/Assists: Yes both have quickly become a strength of his game, he's already led an entire league in assists last season with 61 and then goals for a defenseman the previous season with 27.  Posting 148 points from the blue line over 2 seasons there's no question this has become a strength of his developing game.

Toughness: Gavilrovs is one tough customer evident by his league leading penalty minutes, 204 last season in the VHLE

    Weakness

    We couldn't find any.

    GALV.JPG

    Future VHL Outlook:

Gavilrovs joins Vancouer this season in the pros and we can expect a strong physical performance by the former 7th overall selection. The big rookie defenseman will be in the top 4 and definitely throw his weight around making the Wolves very hard to play against every night. With higher talented competition and being further down on the depth chart we don't expect high offense in his first couple VHL seasons but he's surprised us before so we're not counting him out. With a focus on defense and physicality early on, moving to offense later in his career there's no question Guntis Gavilrovs has what it takes to become one of the best all around defenseman in the VHL one day and will certainly be in consideration for top defensive defenseman in his peak years, maybe more.

There's a lot to like about his hulking VHL rookie defenseman and we expect him to have a major impact for the Vancouver Wolves not only in his rookie season but during his entire career in the VHL.

  3. So I have no idea if there's any kind of awards in the VHLE, but if there's a defenseman of the year trophy I think Guntis Gavilrovs deserves to be a front runner for it. The big Latvian blueliner had an absolutely huge season, leading the entire league in assists, hits and pims as well as all defenseman in points. He also ranked near the top in blocked shots, blueliner goals and finished 8th overall in league scoring. Just a monster performance and some really impressive numbers all around. He helped Stockholm to great season finishing 3rd overall and a strong playoff run losing to the eventual champs. I think most people would be impressed by Gavilrovs performance on the blue line this season and would support him for any kind of Defenseman of the year award. Other defenseman deserving recognition would be Vlad Von Carstein, Darko Alexander Malkovich, Joseph Dubois and Sunset Moth who all had great seasons of their own and I have a ton of respect for. Whatever happens it would be fun to see Gavilrovs get some hardware before he moves onto the VHL where it will likely take him at least a few seasons to be in consideration for any VHL awards. Also with it being off-season I couldn't think of anything else to write about, lol, so yes I'm shamelessly plugging myself! :)

    Off Seasons Sucks!!

Here we are watching other flaunt around like little princesses as they continue to play playoff hockey; like they are so much better than Vancouver Wolves!! ugh! At least we had a few prospects to watch play meaningful hockey this past week with even a few players picking up some nice hardware and showing that the future is bright if they continue to do as much once they put the Wolves Jersey on. I have a ton of questions I could have asked this week but I will limit myself to six this week so; Answer three questions for one TPE or all six for two TPE. As always have fun!!

    1.     A whole bunch of the Vancouver Wolves Prospect just won the Renaissance Cup with Bratislava Watchmen in the VHLE; What does this mean Vancouver Wolves should easily win the Continental cup in a few seasons? Why or why not?

    2.     Congrats to Logan Ninefingers @Scurvy, Mikko Borisyuk @Minebro and Vlad Von Carstein @Dom on winning the Renaissance Cup. Who partied the hardest after winning the cup? Why and what do you think they did?

    3.     Sadly, for every winner there needs to be a loser so sadly DB IV was one of our prospects on the losing end of the Renaissance Cup finals. What would you have to say to DB IV @wcats after losing the finals like that?

    4.     What is better playing against players you don`t really know or playing against someone that you know and respect?

    5.     What is one hockey motto that you can think of or that your player would clearly believe in completely?

    6.     Is there any player in the league that you would think it was funny if your players dropped the gloves against each other? Who and why?

    1. I was happy to see some of our guys win the cup in Bratislava, it just means we have that much more experience to help us win the cup with Vancouver!

    2. Without question Logan Ninefingers partied the hardest, he's huge and can consume a ton of alcohol.

    3. Bummer for DBIV who is one heck of a player and my teammate from the VHLM in Houston, but still good to get a deep playoff run and that experience.

    4. I always enjoy it more when I play against friends, the win just feels better and you can talk shit later.

    5. Can't check a guy through the glass unless you go for the hit!

    6. Last season in the VHLE Ninefingers and I were hoping to have a friendly tilt, would have been fun but never happened and now thankfully never will

  5. It was a fun season for formerly hated rivals Guntis Gavilrovs and Logan Ninefingers in the VHLE this season, the two monsters battled all year long on and off the ice but eventually Ninefingers won out by hoisting the cup with the Bratislava Watchmen. Ninefingers had a great playoffs and beat Gavirovs's Vikings head to head in their match up so Guntis has nothing to do but salute him with respect. Guntis may have won the regular season with an all-world stat performance but Ninefingers lit it up also and won the post-season so he gets the ultimate W in this rivalry. Gavilrovs has nothing but respect for his now beloved teammate in Vancouver and was happy the two could spice things up in VHLE media this season. Ninefingers took all Gav's comments in stride, even when he remarked on his looks and threatened to check into the stands. The guy is pure class and Gav is thrilled to be taking the ice with him and the other great VHL rookies in Vancouver this season!

Gavilrovs would also like to take this opportunity to thank his GM's and teammates in Stockholm this past season. He really loved playing for the Vikings, great people and management there as well as an awesome fanbase. Guntis hopes he made good on his lofty 3rd overall draft position for them and has a lot of great memories from this season. The team had a very strong year as well, finishing 3rd overall in the standings and putting forth a great effort in the post-season against the eventual champs. Guntis wishes everyone in Stockholm the best as he now looks forward to going pro with Vancouver this coming season.

  6. Currently in the VHLE playoffs, Guntis Gavilrovs' Stockholm Vikings are locked in an intense battle with hated rival Logan Ninefingers' Bratislava Watchmen. The series is currently 2-1 in favor of poopie face Ninefingers, but we expect the adonis Guntis Gavilrovs to tie it up and make it a best of 3. The first game went to Stockholm 3-2 and then Bratislava won game two 5-1 and then game three 5-2, so we expect a spirited affair in game 4 and for Stockholm as they really need to bring it. Guntis Gavilrovs has stated in pre-game media that he plans to shut down Ninefingers after allowing him to score 2 goals in game three, which he said was unacceptable and will not happen again. Gavilrovs doesn't care if he has to knock Ninefingers through the glass and out of the arena in order to stop him, he's going to do what needs to be done! The two behemoths almost went at it in game three after Bratislava went up big in the 3rd. Gavilrovs tried to drag Ninefingers into a fight but he did not accept the challenge and just pointed to the scoreboard. A furious Gavilrovs will be no doubt gunning for Ninefingers in game four, which is more or less a must win for the Vikings. We're confident that Stockholm can win this series and Logan Ninefingers will be left with nothing else to do but cry in his beer.

    1. How was your season going? Were you under/over-performing?

    2. If your player was a drink, which one were they and why?

    3. What is your role model player in the VHL and what makes them earn this title?

    1. Had a great season in the E, top Dman in many categories, prob over performed.

    2. My player would be a monster energy drink because he is max height and weight

    3. Brian Payne before he retired, dude was an absolute beast.

    3 Question:

    1. Did you watch the outdoor games this weekend, what'd you think?

    2. Is your team in post season, how are they doing, if not how is your golf game?

    3. What is your players pre-game hype up song?

  8. Guntis Gavilrov continues to stand out above all other defenseman in the VHLE this season leading the position in points (73), assists (56), hits (275) and pims (180). Just an unbelievable season for Gavilrovs and he also leads the entire league in assists, hits, pims and is among the top in blocked shots (171). His excellent play this season has helped Stockholm to solidify the 3rd spot in the standings where they have been sitting comfortably for some time now. Recently they beat rival Bratislava with an impressive 4-2 victory to set the tone for what we expect will be an exciting first round playoff match up. Gavilrovs was getting into with with newly acquired Logan Ninefingers on Bratislava all game as the hated rivalry has carried over from Oslo after the trade. Gavilrovs and Ninefingers almost dropped the gloves in this one but cooler heads prevailed, which is surprising since both players have gigantic heads and short fuses. Anyway, Stockholm is playing well and proved they can drop Bratislava so there's no question anyone can win in the playoffs if/when they meet! One thing is for sure Guntis Gavilrovs has put together a truly impressive season from start to finish for the Stockholm Vikings especially from the blue line and has proved he is one of the top young defenseman in the game right now.

    The Riddles of a Season?

Here we are at the end of the season and a lot of things are clear but a few are not. Yeah, Hockey is a great sport that is very unpredictable but that is great right since it means the best team doesn`t always win. Regular season is coming to a close and we have a few things to be excited about so lets talk about shall we? Answer three questions for one TPE or all six for two TPE. As always have fun!!

    1. Liv Slater @Subject056 has been playing amazing this season and tied the hybrid record for Defense goals in the season at 35 goals? Do you think Liv Slater can break the record in the last eight games and how many goals do they finish with?

    2. Nick Sansoe @Tipskid97 has also been rather impress this season leading the team in points and currently sit at 78pts clearly setting new career highes!! Do you think Nick Sansoe should be considered for the Dustin Funk Trophy as the most improved player?

    3. Dalkr Vidarsson @KaleebtheMighty has been rather impress this season with limited support in front of him with 3.12GA, 0.924% and 5 shut-outs? Give me an over or under if Dalkr Vidarsson will have more than 5 shut-out next season? Why?

    4. We missed the play-off officially as of today, even though we have been winning more lately, was this always going to be a Thanos moment? Why or why not?

    5. If you were handing out awards for the Defense this season, what awards would you consider Liv Slater for? (Alexander Valiq Trophy - Top Offense Defenceman, Jake Wylde Trophy - Defensive Defenceman , Sterling Labatte Trophy - Top Defenseman)

    6. Riddle: A man who was outside in the rain without a hat or an umbrella didn`t get a single hair on his head wet. Why?

Raining Episode 5 GIF by The Simpsons

    1. I picked them in fantasy because Liv is amazing so I'm not surprised, yes I think they can break the record! 38 goals.

    2. Yes Sansoe has been great, should definitely be considered for the Funk. I won it once so I know these things.

    3. Over because the team will be improved and we rule so I always bet on us being better.

    4. I don't think anyone expected us to be a top team this season but always good to see the group click anytime of the seaosn

    5. Top offensive defenseman and top overall Defenseman, could even make a case for defensive defenseman. Liv should win em all!

    6. because he was bald.

  10. VHLE's Stockholm Vikings are surging lately with 6 wins in their last 10 games and are looking like a real contender with Bratislava and Cologne who continue to be jerks and won't let Stockholm pass them in the standings. The Vikings have recently strengthened the roster adding defenseman Barca and Verhault giving superstar bruiser Guntis Gavilrovs some help and relief on the blue line. Since the big trade the Vikings are playing well and seem to have found the right system the last week or so and are now really surging. It's possible they could catch Bratislava for 2nd, who were obviously feeling the pressure as they made a big trade to pick up all world forward Logan Ninefingers before the deadline. We all know about the hated rivalry between Gavilrovs and Ninefingers which will now certainly get spotlighted in the playoffs.

It should be mentioned that Vikings star forward Riley Martin is dominating the league right now with 68 points in 52 games and teams can't handle his skill on a nightly basis. Gavilrovs continues to lead all defenseman in scoring with 58 points as well the league in hits and pims with 227/144. He's a goddamn animal out there.
