Stanley Cup Finals or Continental Cup Finals?

Okay, hard to compare real life to a sim league but I guess this weeks theme will be around the Stanley Cup finals. Florida should win easily but does this dent McDavids` image? Did you know he hasn`t won a cup at any level that he has played from Minor Hockey tournaments, Provincial Championship or even Junior Championship other than playing for team Canada!! Yeah, I was shocked as well since they compare him to some of the greats but there is one clear difference at the moment between him, Gretzky and Crosby. Answer three questions for one TPE or all six questions for two TPE. As always have fun!!

    1.     Who is your selection to win the Stanley Cup and why?

    2.     Does the Conn Smythe trophy really mean anything to the players? Also who do you think wins?

    3.     Last time Edmonton was in the finals was way back in 2006; when I first started dating my wife; and they had Captain Canada on the team. Who is Captain Canada in the VHL? And do you even know who Captain Canada is?

    4.     If you had to compare Stuart Skinner to any VHL goaltender, who would it be and why?

    5.     Who is currently the McDavid of the VHL?

    6.     Do you think experience matters in Championship series? Why or Why not?

    7.     Bonus: What matters more in the VHL experience or leadership?

    1. Probably Florida based on their defense and they've already beat some top teams. I'd like to see Edmonton win but I think defense and goalie favors florida.

    2. I think it's secondary for them but something nice to look back on. Bobrovsky no doubt.

    3. Ryan Smith, dude was awesome. I don't know who would compare in VHL because I don't know enough players and where they are from.

    4. Whoever plays well for about 3 games then can't stop a beachball for 3 games then gets a shutout, then is shit again and so on.

    5. Logan Ninefingers.

    6. In the NHL definitely. Its the hardest trophy to win and you need experienced dudes who know how to play and what to say when faced with adversity.

  2. The Vancouver Wolves recently went on an 8 game winning streak, picking up 16 straight points and vaulting over both Calgary (who's really shit the bed lately) and Chicago and New York in the standings. The Wolves are stalking their way in on Toronto and Seattle, just a few wins back now and those teams better watch their back. Currently sitting at 21-11-7 with a +16 goal differential Vancouver is benefiting from some key moves their amazing GM's made. Picking up Matt Kemp who's really fit in well and also the continued development of their young stars like Logan Ninefingers (who recently beat the shit out of some poor bastard), Riley Martin who's amazing and of course Guntis Gavilrovs who's the best looking and meanest player on the team. Also let's not forget the key off-season moves of bringing in superstars Mark Calaway and Owen Lazaro and then Rip Wheeler who's been pretty good, even though I still haven't fully forgiven him for getting into a fight with Ninefingers last season. Vancouver dropped a couple games recently but today got back on track with a strong win and should challenge for the top spot in the NA Conference this season and certainly a playoff berth. Wolves GM's have been rumored to be looking to add a depth forward to round out the top 6 but honestly we could probably win it all with just 5 forwards since our dudes are so good. I mean other teams better watch their ass because the Wolves are looking dangerous out there!

  3. Wolves defenseman Guntis Gavilrovs has put together a solid season through 25 games. He isn't lighting up the scoresheet with points but is making his presence felt in a big way on defense with intense physical play. 88 hits on the season, good for 8th in the league and he's on pace for over 250 hits again this season, probably close to 275 when it's all said and done. Gavilrovs also has 54 blocks which is a strong number as well. He only has 12 points through 25 games but on a Vancouver blue line that boasts 3 high end offensive talents around him we didn't expect him to light it up this season. Still, he is on pace for 30+ points which is solid for a young physical defenseman. He's played a mean game again this season with 92 penalty minutes, 2nd in the league, but he's actually toned it down of late and will be working on being more disciplined as the season moves on. One BIG improvement so far this year is his plus/minus, which sits at +10, way up from the -40 he finished with last season, so that's a great sign his defensive game is improving. Very encouraged to see that number especially being on the 1st pairing most of the year. As the season continues we expect Gavilrovs to work on his offense a bit more and stay out of the penalty box a little more as well. The Wolves look to be a playoff contender this season and Gavilrovs can't wait to get a taste of the VHL playoffs!

New regular season and what the heck is STHS smoking?

New season and Vancouver have struggled coming out of the gate but other teams haven`t? Calgary to date are prefect; which has me questions some wonderful conspiracy theories. You know like the Alien guys from History Channel. So what needs to change if anything to get this team headed in the right direction and we also named Captains!! Answer three questions for one TPE or all six questions for two TPE. As always have fun!!

    1.     Did naming of the captains surprise you? Why or Why not?

    2.     Do you think Vancouver Wolves need to make a trade to shake things up? What trade would you be looking to make?

    3.     Calgary is perfect so is this just an STHS smoke job or are we being FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY? Explain your theory?

    4.     Am not sure since I think most of us are blind but did you notice the Portal changed? What do you think and what do you like or hate about the changes?

    5.     Where do you think Vancouver finish in the standings this season?

    6.     Who has been the most impressive player for the Wolves? Why?

    7.     Bonus: Have you even been in a Earthquake? And how would you explain it to someone that hasn`t?

    1. No not at all, a team needs captains. It's good we have them.

    2. No I think we just need to be patient and find the right lines, and system for success then roll with it.

    3. sths smoke job, it won't last. I'm not intimidated. Also we shut them out recently, so there's that.

    4. I have no idea what you're talking about. lol

    5. If we stick it out with this roster we can definitely finish top 3 in our conference just need to be patient and get hot.

    6. Logan Ninefingers, dude always impresses me, he's been great this season again.

    7. Only minor one and felt the shaking but only last 10 seconds, no damage. I thought a large truck was driving by outside.

  5. Winners of their last 4 games, Vancouver is finding their groove after a slow start. The Wolves have been howling of late with 4 impressive wins including 2 shutouts, as management may have found the right recipe for success. It was a slow start as they lost some close ones early on and were winless in their first 6 games only earning 2 points through overtime. Then some line changes spurred on a nice little run and they've picked up 8 points in the last 4 games. Man child Logan Ninefingers is obliterating the scoresheet this season with 9 goals and 16 points in 10 games. Personally, I'm just in awe of how good this guy already is in just his 2nd season. I'm also in awe of how someone as ugly as him can pull any ass at all, but somehow he does pretty well for himself, usually it's my leftovers but at least he's getting some action, which is more than I can say for Rip Wheeler. Back to the Wolves now, a lot of players are beginning to heat up, guys like Left Alone, The Frenchman, Mark Calaway are starting to produce at their normal levels and Riley Martin, , Liv Slater, Owen Lazaro and even Rip Wheeler are putting the puck in the net lately. Gavilrovs is abusing opponents as usual but needs to produce more offensively as the season rolls on. Wolves rookie Annie Oaks is playing hard out there and picked up her first assist in the VHL the other day which was exciting, I'm sure she will light the lamp soon also! We expect Vancouver to settle in here and start piling up the wins in the next 10-20 games.

    1. I wouldn’t be a big fan of purchasing extra seasons, but I wouldn’t mind seeing some options where you can upgrade specific attributes at a discounted rate.

    2. I think Edmonton or Montreal would be good options for NA.  For EU, I would lean to Berlin myself.

    3. Not even close unfortunately.  I need an extra 2-3 a night on average probably.

    —-

    1. How has the season started for your player?

    2. Are there any other leagues that you partake in or have been apart of in the past? If so, are there anything those leagues did that you would like to see in the VHL?

    3. Who do you have in the Stanley Cup? Edmonton or Florida?

    1. Pretty good in terms of D and physicality but not much offense yet!

    2. Nothing similar to vhl but I used to do an online league where you pick NHL players from any era, set lines, etc and it simulates a season against other users in small leagues. It was all about shooting %

    3. As much as I would like to see Edmonton win, I think Florida takes it with their team defense and physical play.

    Questions:

    1. What as your biggest surprise of the NHL playoffs so far?

    2. How is your VHL/E/M team doing so far and you player?

    3. What team or player is your biggest rival right now in your respective league?

  7. Vancouver Wolves hulking rookie defenseman Guntis Gavilrovs was named to the VHL All-Rookie Team this week! He joins lothario teammate Logan Ninefingers and recent former teammate Vlad Von Carstein who were both given the All-Rookie honor as well! An exceptional showing for the Wolves rookies in season 93 and we're sure Riley Martin was in consideration as well. Goes to show how great Vancouver GM's did in the S92 draft and what a bright future this organization has, even with recent moves to more of a win now line up they did not sacrifice the future. Let's focus on Gavilrovs for a second though, it's nice to see a player with his type of game get recognized. He was dominant as a rookie with hits (253) and blocks (164) and contributed well offensively with 35 points, including 7 goals. Coming off a season in the VHLE that saw him win defenseman of the year, it's a great sign to follow this up with an All-Rookie team nomination, especially with only 2 defenseman being named. Sky is the limit for this bruising beauty and we expect big things in the coming seasons from Gavilrovs, as well as Ninefingers, Martin and even Carstein wherever he is playing.

    Draft, Off-season Tournaments & Controversy!!

Wow, The VHL draft and the lesser VHLE draft took place almost a full week ago and this lazy off-season AGM has finally decided to ask you for some of your thoughts around the draft. WJC is also kicking off with a few prospects taking part, ProAM is wrapping up or wrapped and the JST was …… We continue to wait for the season but that should start next week; maybe? Answer three questions for one TPE or all six questions for two TPE. As always have fun!!

    1.     Did you actively take part in watching this season VHL draft? And what did you think about the two players that Vancouver selected?

    2.     Broadcaster mentioned Goaltending controversy likely coming to the Vancouver Wolves due to our second pick of Soju; Do think this will be the situations? Why or Why not?

    3.     Broadcaster also mentioned this AGM being disappointed or should be put out when his player was selected 3rd overall since he bleeds black & grey of the Wolves? Do you think this is situation that this AGM is disappointed and should managers be disappointed when they are drafted to a different team than the team that they are managing?

    4.     Did anyone actively take part in the ProAM tournament or even know it was happening? What is a better way to make this tournament more engaging?

    5.     JST is another interesting tournament that took place as it does most off-season and while I feel like it is a good idea to have a tournament to keep interest in new members higher, It feels like it is starting to fall flat. How would try to bring interest back into the JST tournament and what would you change?

    6.     WJC championship should have kicked off by now so are you actively following the tournament or any of the prospects in the tournament? Which team in any or which prospect if any?

    7.     Bonus: Since I am being lazy this week, tell me what would be a great article for the VSN to cover during the off-season Or an article that might be interesting topic to cover in the future? Why?

    Come on Regular season....

    1. I wouldn't even know where to watch the draft but I absolutely love the two players we selected! Bollos and Frank's one name goalie are both going to be superstars in the future. We killed it as usual!

    2. No not at all, we have a great goalie right now as we try and win the cup then down the road Soju can take over. Should work out well.

    3. Yes I think you should be disappointed but there's nothing you can do because you are too good and rightfully went early. That said I expect you will come here in free agency the first chance you get so should work out well for everyone except the team that drafted you.

    4. I have no idea what that even is, never heard of it, but let me know if Guntis was involved in it plz! lol

    5. Again, no idea what this is never heard of it. What I would change is making sure people like me know about it.

    6. This is a tourney I know about because I was in it! No I don't follow it anymore tho, but hope our prospects do well if they are in it.

    7. You do a great job with VSN articles so follow your gut, but maybe top 10 power forwards in the league right now.
