  8. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan - A new day is upon us. The confetti from season 63’s VHLM championship parade covers the streets of Saskatoon and babies are being made in houses all around the town. Yes, these people of Saskatoon know how to celebrate. But for one Saskatoon player the celebration is being put out of his mind. “Last season was great, we had the perfect team and everything seem to fall into place at the right time,” said Saskatoon forward Curtis Gary. “I was grateful to have a pretty good rookie season with a lot of opportunity to grow my game on the second line.” With season 64 upon us and many of the teammates from last years championship team leaving for the big leagues, Gary is looking forward to leading the Saskatoon Wild to a repeat of last season on the top line. “It’s something I’m really embracing right now, I’m staying focused on making my game better every single day so I can be that role model for the new guys coming in next season.” 176 words Dec. 24-30

  11. 1. The best-of-3 finals of the Sponsor's Shield Tournament will see the VIKING and True North Gear brands face each. Who do you think takes the first ever Cup home? VIKING, just a wild guess. 2. Are you satisfied with your position in the draft(s) that happened earlier this week? Yes, I was actually thinking I might go in the 3rd round but going in the 2nd round to the defending champs is great. 3. Who do you think are the frontrunners for the VHLM Founder's Cup this season? Based on offseason moves so far I have to go with Oslo. 4. Do you like the atmosphere in your new VHLM team's locker room? its different than last year it’s a lot quieter but we’ll see what happens. 5. What have you been focusing on during your most recent training sessions? Puck handling, passing, scoring. 6. Fun question for new members, horrible question for veterans: Are you superstitious? Do you have a pre-game routine? No, none what so ever.

  13. It’s official, with the 16th overall pick in the season 64 VHL draft the Riga Reign have selected center Curtis Gary. Playing his first season for the Saskatoon Wild, of the VHLM, Gary recorded 41 points in 72 games (12 goals 29 assists) and led all VHLM players in both goals (8) and points (17) in the playoffs on route to winning his first championship. Expectations are for Gary to stay down in the minors this season as he looks to gain some more experience in order to break onto the scene in season 65. Riga Reign GM @hedgehog337 had this to say about picking Curtis Gary 16th overall, “The first reason is his position. I was eyeing center in this draft too and was hoping he would go to us for that reason . Secondly, he’s looking to do more to gain experience (tpe), which helped his draft stock go up”. When we got a chance to stop Gary amongst all the chaos and celebration, he had this to say, “This is the greatest day of my life, up to this point, to be able to have an incredible year with a championship team in the minors and now to be drafted by the defending VHL champs, it’s huge I’m just so happy and excited for the future.” A long road lies ahead for Curtis Gary and he knows it. “I know I need time to grow some more and I feel being drafted has given me a lot of motivation to gain as much experience this season as I can. The last thing I want to do is let the city, the owner, GM, teammates, and the fans down.” 281 Dec. 17–23
  14. With the season 64 VHL draft being held on Tuesday, December 18th, it’s time to take a last minute look at another prospect who thinks he ready to take the next step in his VHL career. Curtis Gary Position: Center Height: 5’11” Weight: 180lbs S63 Stats (VHLM) Regular Season: GP: 72 G: 12 A: 29 PTS: 41 +/-: +7 Playoffs: GP: 11 G: 8 A: 9 PTS: 17 +/-: +9 When season 63 got underway for the VHLM the name Curtis Gary was just another name in the sea of rookies, and to be honest by the end of the season his name still wasn’t really known. But this has not discouraged Curtis Gary one bit. “I was drafted late in the season 63 VHLM draft and started the season with a long scoring slump. It got really hard to keep my mental focus on the long term goals. I wanted things to change immediately”, Gary said. “I think the biggest lesson I’ve learned this season is that ‘good things come to those who wait’. I needed patience to keep my mind focused on the little details in my game.” It took all seventy-two regular season games for Curtis Gary to really show his worth as a player in the VHLM. Gary would make up one of three key forwards on the second line of the Saskatoon Wild, which helped drive the depth scoring and pushed the Wild into the playoffs. By the end of the regular season Gary saw his game peaking at the right moment. “I felt great, I felt like I was very comfortable in my play. I had great line mates (Mark Gebauer and Kyson Blake) who gave 110% effort every night, if one wasn’t scoring another picked up the slack, it was a great combo.” Then came the VHLM playoffs. Gary expected to keep the same role he had played during the regular season as a depth scorer, but through the first seven games (all against Halifax) Gary recorded 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists) good enough to lead not just his team in scoring, but also the league (in goals and points). In the final round an interesting challenge faced Gary and the Wild, the underdog Ottawa Lynx. Through the four game sweep Gary recorded 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists) along with the VHLM championship. All in all it wasn’t a bad rookie for a young Curtis Gary, 41 points in 72 regular season games and 17 points in 11 playoff games. Gary finished the playoffs on top in goals and points on the way to his first VHLM championship. When asked what he would bring to a VHL team, if they chose him in the season 64 draft, Gary had this to say: “I’m not gonna give you the same gibberish answers everyone else with a big ego gives you, I’m no superpower filled man I’m just a normal human being who loves hockey, scores goals, wins faceoffs, and has a VHLM championship. I’m here to get better every day, every week, every season.” Special Season 63 Stat: Curtis Gary was sixth in the league in faceoff percentage for the regular season at 54.88%, taking well over a thousand attempts. 543 words Dec. 17-23

  16. 1. We had a influx of new members recently thanks to a big Reddit recruitment drive. (If you are a new member) How do you like the site so far? (If you are not new to the site) Are you scared about the new competition stealing your thunder? Nope, the new competition is welcome. It’ll give me new motivation to get better every day. 2. Do you have any idea for the Recruitment Team regarding new avenues to recruit new members? Not at the moment. 3. Were you surprised that the Saskatoon Wild disposed of the Ottawa Lynx so easily in the VHLM Founder's Cup Finals? Hell no. Me and my teammates on Saskatoon had all the talent on our side to push us to a championship this year. 4. Do you think the Calgary Wranglers have what it takes to complete the comeback over the Riga Reign in the VHL Continental Cup Finals? Anything is possible. 5. Any VHL team you'd prefer to be selected by in the next VHL Entry Draft? Somebody who is in a good position for the next several years, but will allow me to keep developing in the VHLM for another season. 6. What are your objectives for next season? To become a better all around player for whichever team I play for.

  18. It’s a cold crisp morning in Ottawa, and Curtis Gary prepares for another day in the VHLM cup final. It took eighty-one games to get to this point (regular season and playoffs combined), and Gary has put together a pretty good rookie season. Now with all the playoff chaos of underdog teams winning series, crazy comebacks, and controversial game sims, Curtis Gary can separate himself from the mess, that is the playoffs. It’s really simple, Curtis Gary is quietly leading the league in scoring. A feat that even he didn’t imagine possible. “My season started out very slowly, there was a lot of painful nights of wondering ‘what if?’. But as the season moved on I gained more confidence and points. My line ended the season really hot”, said Gary, “We knew that if we were to win it all we needed to keep the depth scoring going”. Now with the championship series lead (2-0 Saskatoon) and the league lead in points Curtis is focused on the ultimate prize, a VHLM championship.
  19. 1. This season's achievement tracker was just released by Banackock. What 2 stats are you going to claim TPE for? Points and Faceoffs Won. 2. The firs t round of the playoffs saw Ottawa beat Las Vegas 2-0. They are now going against Yukon. Do they have a chance? No way. 3. Who wins the other semi-final, Saskatoon or Halifax? Saskatoon, in a close hard fought series. 4. I just shared a 2-round mock draft, do you think anyone was too high o r too low in it? No I believe everyone was given an accurate seeding. 5. The VHL All-Star Game was streamed a couple days ago. Did you check it out and what did you think of it? I did not get a chance to check it out. 6. It's time to make a last push before the draft. How much TPE do you think you'll have on draft day (knowing it's in about 2 w e eks)? I’m estimating 130-150 tpe
  20. Curtis Gary Center Points: 41/10 = 4.1 FO Won: 917/150 = 6.1

  22. 1. This season's Themed Point Task had you write or make a graphic about the upcoming Sponsor's Shield Tournament and the brands that will compete in it. (if you are associated with a brand) Which brand do you think has the best roster? (if you are not associated with a brand) Which brand would you like to represent? Haterade, hands down. 2. What would you like next season's theme to be? Something different and interesting that takes you deeper into the VHL and makes it feel real personal. 3. Who has your vote for the VHLM's MVP so far in this season? Still gotta go with Nathan Mackinnon. 4. If you had the choice between every job possible in the league, which one would you do? (you can say none if you want to only be a player, it is fine) It be pretty cool to be the top dog in the league calling all the shots getting to do things your own way. But I’d also be fine just being a player. 5. I am going to release a mock draft early next week. Let's put you up with the same task; who will be the first 4 picks of the draft? 1st pick (DAV): Sullivan 2nd pick (NYA): Dahlberg 3rd pick (HSK): Zabby 4th pick (NYA from TOR): Wahl 6. Do you read the weekly Newsletter? Is this stuff interesting for you? Every week, yeah it’s full of good info. Could maybe use a bit more info but it’s good.
  23. Yes I truly believe it would’ve made a difference if I wasn’t scratched. Even when I did play I got 0:00 minutes of power play time. Not a good tournament for me for sure.
