  2. So, with the new season approaching, I've decided to review my draft. It was a pretty good one to say the least. I also was ranked #1 in the ECN VHLM GM rankings, to everyones (including my own) shock. That being said, it wasn't without reason. Looking strictly at this offseason, I made good work of what I had. With picks 3 and 4, I got two centers that will be a killer duo in George Washington and Benny Graves. These were two really good pickups that I definitely will not regret, especially with the way things started to roll my way after this. At 7, I got Cinnamon Block, who was someone I considered getting with the 4th pick. I decided not too, and it was the right choice. I got Cinnamon Blockat 7 to start filling out a defense that looks like an insane unit. At 14 and 15, I picked up another pair of guys that dropped, David Wallace and Blacker Velvet. Velvet I was shocked with the drop, as I pondered whether I wanted him at 7 over Block. I went for Block, but I got them both anyways. David Wallace was on the team last year and I re-acquired him this year to assist George Washington on the wing. Bruce Grimaldi is my biggest risk. Many people think he will be playing up in the VHL this year for Prague, while others say he isn't. Either way, I'll make this pick everytime. If he stays, I get a great goalie. If he leaves, who cares? I have S70 picks I can just trade away, and also waiver signings. This is a risk I will always take. Defenseman Tony Bolonee and Mike Van Stronk also dropped to round four to complete a top four defense unit that is absolutely insane. Of course, I originally picked Larsson Erik Ganoon. I thought that he dropped in the draft because some people didn't really like him, but I did not realize he retired. Luckily I got to re-do the pick. So all in all it was an amazing draft to say the least. Hopefully we can win a cup this year.
  3. We return with part TWO of the VHLM draft review. Read part one here. We looked at the Kings, Hounds, Aces and Marlins in part one. Today, we will be looking at the rest of the VHLM, starting with the Houston Bulls Houston Bulls Draft Class: Soren Jensen (LW)- 6th overall Dagmar Havlova (C)- 17th overall Jason Conners (LW)- 28th overall Erik Summers (D)- 33rd overall Milos Slavik (LW)- 36th overall Elliot Porter (D)- 44th overall The Bulls quietly had one of the best drafts in the league, even without a handful of early picks. They made good work of each and every pick they owned, with some great pickups including Erik Summers at 33 and Milos Slavik at 36. GM @FrostBeard also made good work of his early round picks, selecting returning members Soren Jensen and Dagmar Havlova in the first two rounds. Taking Jason Conners in the third is a risk though. He hasn't updated since the week of September 1st, which is a red flag for the Bulls. If he returns, they could be sitting in well for S68. If not, it hurts there chances at a title run. That being said, they have many high TPE members returning, including Brodyn Capaldi, Khalabib Stiopic, and goaltender Sean McGee. The Bulls should be really solid in S68, and if Vegas goaltender Bruce Grimaldi goes inactive, the Bulls could give them a run for their money. If things go their way, the Bulls could find themselves in a contending spot. Best Pick: Erik Summers at 33 Ceiling: 2nd seed Floor: 4th seed Yukon Rush Draft Class: Block Buster (G)- 8th overall Nate Wright (C)- 19th overall Sven Nyckel (D)- 41st overall With only three draft picks, it's hard to really give Yukon a grade. They did well on this picks, picking up an elite goaltender in round one followed up by a potential number one center. Sven Nyckel in the fourth is a great pickup as well, to try to help out a defense that may need it. Even with two returners in Justin Rushmore and Andrej Petrovic, they still aren't a really great team. They have a few really solid talents, but the talent level really drops off. The depth on the team is really not there, with an ok first line, and then a poor second line. The same can be said about the defense, but they have goaltender Block Buster to bail them out. Yukon will rely heavily on their top guns this season, and I don't think it will work out well. Their goalie will be enough to get them into the playoffs but not much more than that. Best Pick: Nate Wright at 19 Ceiling: 5th seed Floor: 7th seed Philadelphia Reapers Draft Class: Jacob Perry (D)- 10th overall Hiroshi Okada (C)- 21st overall Peach Panther (RW)- 32nd overall For the new GM @DMaximus, it was a really nice draft. Every pick was good, but I particularly like his last two picks; Okada and Panther. I know Okada from a separate sim league he runs, and Peach Panther of course is a recreate. Don't get me wrong, Jacob Perry is a good get at #10, but I like the value of his later picks better. Not only that, but many returners from last years squad will make this team a title contender. Case Martell, Bud Knight, Duncan Jeffers, David Lindberg, and Ricky Johnson all are returning players with at least 125 TPE. On top of that, Fang Flashback will be the star in net, with a really solid team out in front of him. They have no obvious holes, and can compete with Vegas for the top seed. While I think Vegas is a bit more talented, both teams are very similar. If Grimaldi goes to the VHL, Philly has the edge on Vegas. If not, it will be a tough battle. Best Pick: Hiroshi Okada at 21 Ceiling: 1st seed Floor: 3rd seed Halifax 21st Draft Class: Liam Rooney (C)- 18th overall Kim Jong Un (LW)- 40th overall A quik but efficient draft for Halifax. Liam Rooney at 18 is a really nice pickup, filling out the number one center role with a late second rounder. Kim Jong Un is also a great pickup at #40, as the returning member Gaudette can be relied on to gain TPE. Even if he goes inactive, it is only a fourth rounder. Similarly to Philadelphia, they have many returners to the squad, such as Emil Passerelli, Papa Gage and Anton Edvin. They will need the inactives to step up if they want to make a run at the playoffs. Having no goalie does them no favors either. They will have to rely on a waiver signing or a trade to get a much needed goaltender. Halifax is a decent team, but don't expect much come playoff time. Best Pick: Kim Jong Un at 40 Ceiling: 4th seed Floor: 8th seed That's it for VHLM draft preview part two! Check in tomorrow for the final installment, where we will look at Saskatoon and Minnesota (Ottawa had no picks this year)

  6. With the S68 VHLM Draft behind us, we see eleven teams with one goal: winning the founders cup. While some teams are way closer to that goal than others, it will be a dogfight this season. Lets look at each teams picks in the first four rounds of the S68 Draft! Mexico City Kings Draft Class: Solomon Crawford (G)- 1st overall Alyksander Hunter (D)- 11th overall Ryan Busser (RW)- 12th overall Shush Nyko (LW)- 23rd overall Guy Lesieu (RW)- 29th overall After trading for first overall, they made the head scratching move to select Solomon Crawford first overall. Crawford is a great goaltender that is active on discord, but first overall? That was a shocker. Late in the first round they also picked up two really solid players in Hunter and Busser, and both of them will be instrumental in the Kings cup hopes. Mexico City GM @Nykonax loves taking risks, and picked up two low TPE guys in Shush Nyko and Guy Lesieu in the third round. While both players are active, taking them in the third round over guys such as Mike Van Stronk and Peach Panther certainly rose some eyebrows. If they don't work out, Mexico City will not be looking so good. Will they still be a playoff team? Yes, but they won't make it far. They are banking on guys remaining active for this team to work. If they go inactive, this team could be in for a tough season. Best Pick: Ryan Busser at 12 Ceiling: 3rd seed Floor: 7th seed Mississauga Hounds Draft Class: Brock Louth (D)- 2nd overall Balentine Kidd (C)- 9th overall Jerry Wang (RW)- 13th overall Guy Saskamoose (D)- 24th overall Pat Tallinder (RW)- 31st overall Kris Rice (RW)- 43rd overall A team that is gunning for S69 still had a solid S68 draft. Brock Louth will be the cornerstone of the team, complimented by Jerry Wang and Balentine Kidd on offense. They also have multiple late round picks that have been a success, such as Guy Saskamoose and Kris Rice. That being said, the lack of top end talent on the team concerns me. While you can say they will be close the gap on other teams by the playoffs, this team may be hurt by the lack of talent in the early parts of the season, and getting a worse seed than they should get. Ultimately the Hounds just aren't as talented as the other teams in the VHLM this year. Best Pick: Balentien Kidd at 9th Ceiling: 5th seed Floor: 8th seed Las Vegas Aces Draft Class George Washington (C)- 3rd overall Benny Graves (C)- 4th overall Cinnamon Block (D)- 7th overall David Wallace (RW)- 14th overall Blacker Velvet (D)- 15th overall Bruce Grimaldi (G)- 25th overall Killy Foilen (RW)- 26th overall Lek Bislimi (LW)- 34th overall Mike Van Stronk (D)- 35th overall Tony Bolonee (D)- 37th overall It was a big draft for Vegas. With a team filled with talent, there are a few standouts. George Washington and Benny Graves will be a deadly one two combo down the middle, accompanied by David Wallace, Killy Foilen, Lek Bislimi, and Jeff Tates, who signed with Vegas in free agency. Now we can look at the defense, which is even more stacked. Blacker Velvet and Cinnamon Block make up a fierce top defense unit, followed by Tony Bolonee and Mike Van Stronk. It will be tough to score on Vegas. With all that being said, the biggest question lies in net. If Bruce Grimaldi stays in the VHLM, Vegas should be instant cup favorites. If he decides to play in Prague, their chances take a hit. It all relies on him. Vegas is still an elite team and can get by without a goalie, but if they don't have one come playoff time, they will get exposed. Best Pick: Tony Bolonee at 37 Ceiling: 1st seed Floor: 3rd seed San Diego Marlins Draft Class Chad Gilbert (C)- 5th overall Will Clarke (D)- 16th overall Markus Nygren (LW)- 20th overall Raleigh Ritchie (RW)- 27th overall Daldo (RW)- 38th overall King Kruul (D)- 42nd overall The Marlins sport a decent team this year, with re-creates Will Clarke and Markus Nygren leading the way, supported by first gen Chad Gilbert and Raleigh Ritchie. Similar to Mississauga, I don't think this team has all the pieces to make a deep run. While players will approach the cap through out the season, the Marlins do not have enough players that will reach that plateau to make a run for the cup. They have a goalie that may be inactive, and only one good forward line. While this will become less of an issue as the season goes on, I expect the Marlins to have an OK season. Best Pick: Will Clarke at 16 Ceiling: 5th seed Floor: 9th seed That's it for part one of the VHLM draft review! Look tomorrow for part two!
