GlowyGoat reacted to Gwdjohnson in Leon and Gabriel Gutzwiler Hit the VHLM Ice [1/2]
An exciting pair of prospects have joined the S70 VHLM class tonight, as Swiss starlet siblings Leon and Gabriel Gutzwiler declared themselves eligible for the draft. The two forwards are considered two of the brightest young prospects in Europe, and there is much excitement about them moving to North America. The 17 year-olds have made a fearsome reputation for themselves in their local league in Switzerland because of their high-end ability and chemistry. They've been commonly referred to as the "Swiss Sedins" back home as a result of this. Playing in the men's Swiss league, they were more dominant than the league tends to have teenagers be, as the 17 year-olds were both top 10 league-wide in scoring, catching very many important sets of eyes.

Gabriel Gutzwiler is a winger by trade, who is a great two-way forward who posseses a great scoring touch, general offensive ability, and hockey IQ. Decently big in frame, Gabriel will likely not see many problems adjusting to the physical nature of the game in North America, and should be able to make an immediate impact. He has said he's not worried about his ability to make the translation overseas because he feels his game is already ready-made to hit the North American rinks.

Leon Gutzwiler is more the Henrik Sedin of the Gutzwiler pair. A center, Gutzwiler is also a very disciplined and intelligent player who has strong technical ability while also always being there to help out on the defensive end. He's good in the dot as well, as it's a part of his game he's been putting effort into ahead of his switch overseas, and could definitely transition into a solid two-way center with a great scoring touch and good penalty killing abilities as well.

The two have made no secret of their preferred destination in the league, and the answer is simple. "We do hope to play for the same team in juniors", said Leon. "We've always played together growing up and we have such good chemistry on and off the ice; it would be very beneficial to both us and whoever drafts us if we can both end up in the same place". Gabriel echoes Leon's sentiment, saying "I think it will especially help both our games if we play for the same team in the VHLM. It would be a huge help to adjusting to playing in another continent and would mean we both get an opportunity to carve out careers like the Sedins in the NHL. Obviously anything can happen and we might not end up together, but we do really hope that it can happen".

It is very unlikely that the two end up on the same team, as they are both highly-coveted prospects that likely won't see themselves drafted in separate rounds, but even if they're split in half and forced to finally diverge from one another in their hockey careers, just one of the Gutzwilers is more than enough to be a big boost to whichever VHLM team lands them on draft day.

GlowyGoat got a reaction from DarkSpyro in Aleksandra Olsen Junior Review [2/2]
    Aleksandra Katrin Olsen
    Age 18
    5’10, 155 lbs
    Vestmanna, Vestmanna, Faroe Islands

Sandra Olsen’s hockey career began not in her home country, which sports no youth hockey leagues, but in the country of Denmark. Ice rinks were in short supply before her family moved to Denmark permanently, so she made do with street hockey in what passed for the streets of Vestmanna, a town of only 1,200, where she quickly became the best of the players. Beyond hockey, she dabbled in the sport of handball, extremely popular in her country, though her true passion would always lie on the ice.
While she found little opportunity to skate on a rink during her time on the Faroe Islands, she always made it a point to skate on any frozen body of water she could find, to improve her skating as best as she could in a country with no ice rinks. Despite the lack of ice hockey opportunities, Sandra made it a point to practice every other skill of hockey by any means necessary, playing both street hockey and field hockey at varying points of the year, and devoting the families basement to puckhandling drills.

On Sandra’s 11th birthday, the family moved to Denmark, and her ice hockey career truly began. While she wouldn’t stay in the Danish system for long, women’s hockey in Denmark is unpopular to the point of providing few options for young players, Sandra quickly grew to be one of the best young players the league had ever seen, before eventually leaving for the SDHL in Sweden shortly after turning 14.

In Sweden, Sandra first played with Hässelby Kälvesta HC, finding her feet in a lower Swedish league that quickly proved insufficient to her skills, though she would remain with them for the following two years. Most recently, from age 16 to now, Sandra has played for the Women’s division of the renowned Swedish club Djurgårdens IF where she has continued to develop her game. Initially relegated to a third pairing powerplay specialist due to her passing skills, Sandra’s endless desire to improve has only led to her gaining more ice time over the past two seasons, as she’s forced herself into being one of the key players on the team. While in Sweden she was scouted by several CWHL teams before that league ceased to exist, as well as NWHL and RWHL teams, but has decided to try her luck in a the mixed-gender league of the VHL, to prove that she’s just as good as any of the men playing there.

    1. After going on a hot streak last week after the deadline, we've inexplicably run up a string of losses, despite running the same lines. Is this a concern?
I don't think so, I think we're all just tired and getting ready for playoffs. I think once we get there, we'll play well.
    2. There's been a lot of talk about VSN and the obvious issues currently affecting it--they've got only a couple active writers at the moment, and it's been that way for months. What do you think is the best way to fix this?
Get new staff, get people who are passionate about it to run it, really get some people writing and focusing on it.
    3. Balentine Kidd and Jerry Wang are now TIED at 89 points apiece. Who takes the Hounds' points title?
    Wang.
    4. Our points leaders have also dropped a bit on the overall points leaderboard, with Kidd and Wang tied for 6th and Louth losing his lead among defensemen. Is this a concern, or do you think it can be fully explained by the fact that our roster has filled out a bit more since the signings at the deadline?
More players, less icetime. If you look at me, I started out red hot, which meant less opportunity for Louth, so I think it's just due to a more crowded roster.
    5. The Hounds officially cliched the playoffs today! Who do you think we'll match up against, and what do you think will happen?
    Doesn't matter, we'll win.
    6. Last but not least--our regular season is likely set to come to an end by the end of this week. What's been your favorite memory or moment of the regular season?
Signing here with Aleksandrov, great moment and I look forward to the future.

As many of you know a documentary is in the works to expose the inhumane treatment that's been going on for the past few seasons in the hounds organization. In this brief article we will go over a few events that happened in the first season (s66) that foreshadowed this reign of darkness. In the beginning Gustav was given tons of draft picks picking many future VHL players no doubt filling there heads with lies about the bright season they would have but little did they know the hellscape that awaited them in the hounds franchise. He named Cody Smith as captain with Hulk Hogan and Callum MacElroy as assistant captains they would receive the blunt of the abuse Gustav had to offer. "he would constantly yell and belittle us every practice and the worst part was how cheap he was, he would slash your paycheck without telling you and would be angry if you brought it up" A Former Hound. Despite this many hounds set franchise records most likely to spite Gustav and show him that no matter what he does they're a team that could challenge any opponent. But as Gustav does he takes what happiness you have and destroys it and towards the end of the season and off season he traded a ton of players trying his best to destroy and chance of enjoyment on his team. Is this really a man that should be left in charge? #OverthrowGustav

The Philadelphia Reapers player Jacob Perry has recently found out he is of Asian decent and will be competing for Asia in worlds. We interviewed him briefly to get his take on the recent events and he had this to say about his discovery of his decent "It was quite the surprise! I guess i didn't know much about my family's history but if it means i can play more hockey then i'm ecstatic to find out my heritage". We were curious how well he thought team Asia would do since they're not considered much of a hockey country "I think we'll do fine, we have a bunch of great players including my fellow teammate Hiroshi Okada who has been an absolute monster this year point wise". When asked about what he could contribute to the team he had this to say "Well i hope to be a key part in what is hopefully a great team, I've got a lot to give on both ends of the ice  and can be dangerous on the power play". Jacob Perry is very excited to show what he's got and is looking forward to representing team Asia with all he's got.

GlowyGoat reacted to Cxsquared in I'm looking out for a Faroe
Recently the VHLM was graced with it’s 3rd player from the Faroe Islands. Aleksandra Olsen is the latest defender to come out of the island. I hadn’t even heard of the Faroe Islands before Olsen stepped onto the scene. So I decided to see if the Islands had any history in the VHL and sure enough it does. Not too long ago, in season 66, the Faroe Islands produced Aron Nielsen. Nealson was picked up by Otawa late in season 64 and really didn’t make much of an impact. But the next season he put up an impressive 66 points in Minnesota. That stand out season led to him being drafted 8th overall in season 66. His first season for Riga only earned him a decent 34 points. Things haven’t gotten any better since then. Nealson has only put up 30 points in this season and his previous season combined.

Which brings me to the big question here. Do we think Aleksandra Olsen can become the best VHL player from the Faroe Islands. While Nealson’s career is still going it seems he’s starting to burn out. It will be interesting to see if a new top player can emerge from the Faroe Islands and become a hometown hero.

GlowyGoat reacted to Gustav in A Look at Past and Present Hounds in the WJC
This past week, rosters for the World Juniors were unveiled, and I was delighted to see that Hounds players and alumni are present on every roster. Since this is a .com article that will be way longer than a .com article, I won't get too wordy with my intro, so let's get on with it.

    Team Canada (GM: @MexicanCow123)

Nate Telker (@Telkster)--Telker signed with the Hounds last season as one of three final signings we made just a day or two before the trade deadline. While he wasn't impressive on the stat sheet with the Hounds (just 6 assists and no goals in 32 games), his build has greatly solidified since then, and with his passing rating of 75, good defensive attributes, and the fact that he's managed over a point per game this season, figures to be a star for Canada. He'll be quite valuable build-wise if utilized correctly.

Brock Louth (@Beaviss)--While on paper, Louth was the second-overall draft choice, he was really the first player off the board, as his draft stock took a hit as a result of a meme trade between the Hounds and Mexico City. Like any other player Beaviss has created, Louth looks like a future star and a future franchise player for Vancouver (and as the GM player, he'd better be). Between Telker and Louth, Canada seems to have lucked out big-time in terms of builds, as Louth brings a defense rating of 80, as well as a scoring rating of 75 and a solid build otherwise, to the table. Look for Louth to be a huge factor in Canada's offensive gameplan and a dominant force on the power play.

    Team USA (GM: @Berocka)

Aamon Grim (@aCrypticPancake)--Grim, a part of the original Hounds squad (and, in fact, a former teammate of his current GM, and my current AGM, Berocka), is an SBA guy by trade, but that hasn't stopped him from creating a solid hockey player as well. Starting out with the Hounds, he played 12 games at the end of S66 and was there for our (short) playoff run against Ottawa, putting up marginal but respectable numbers, rookie status considered. Since then, he's become quite the formidable VHLM player, and with defense at 80, scoring at 75, and puck handling at 76, he's a monster on both ends of the ice, with the ability to shut down plays as well as make them. He'll likely be at or near the top of the lineup, and there he should be, as here we see a legitimate competitor for Louth.

Finnegan MacBurn (@DizzyWithLogic)--MacBurn is one of the newest Hounds, having made his way in the league after being stolen 62nd overall in the dispersal draft by Ottawa last season. I gave up two draft picks, one being a first-rounder, to get him, and I couldn't be happier with the choice--right away, he's fit into the lineup very well, and presents a legitimate two-way threat with defense and passing both at 80. He'll be a wonderful linemate for Grim, being a pure passer, and with their combined defensive abilities, Team USA's penalty kill figures to be dominant.

Jaxon Walker (@hewasajazzman)--Walker joined the Hounds last season (you know, the season we sucked), as a fifth-round draft choice, and I ended up shipping him off later in the season at the deadline for a second-round pick. While, with the Hounds, Walker's numbers weren't great--with Mississauga and Minnesota combined, he only put up 30 points--he's since developed into a defensive coach's dream, with some of the best defensive attributes of any VHLM forward. With defense and puck handling at 75, skating at 70, and strength at 65, he'll be near-impossible to knock off the puck, and his offensive attributes aren't too shabby either--he's over a point per game this season with the Storm.

    Team Europe (GM: @Elmebeck)

Balentine Kidd (@TukTukTheGreat)--I'll never figure out how Kidd, an almost-capped, active center, fell to the end of the first round, but I'll take him. He's already broken the point-per-game mark for the rest of the season, even if he mysteriously disappears in the back alleys of Halifax one night and doesn't play another game. While helped out by Jerry Wang (see below), there's no doubt in my mind that Kidd would be a premier player anywhere, WJC included--his strengths include 75s for scoring and defense, making him a force to be reckoned with in either zone.

    Team Asia (GM: @Greg_Di)

Jerry Wang (@ColeMrtz)--Wang has been the unfortunate one to trail Kidd in points by just a few all season long, and for this he gets far less credit than he deserves. He's also exceeded point-per-game status for the season already, and his capped build is nothing to shake a stick at--his 80s for scoring and skating have propelled him to almost goal-per-game status so far, and if he can score game-winners like he does with the Hounds (9 of them so far), Asia will be propelled to an upset or two.

Keven Foreskin (@Esso2264)--Now, Foreskin never played a game for the Hounds, as I yeeted traded him for a couple draft picks before last season started. He was our second-round choice, though, and part of the team, if only for a bit. Foreskin is one of the tournament's top defensemen, and you can't get much better--at 337 TPE, he's just under the cap, and his 85 defense and 80 passing and puck handling are there as hard evidence of Esso's good build work. So, even if Asia is forced to play defensively (and, with their strong team, they shouldn't be), they'll be very strong in that regard as well.

Jacob Perry (@Liberty_Cabbage)--Perry was an early waiver signing last season and managed to stay with the team the whole way, even surviving the mass exodus of almost every active player on the team. With 32 points and a -41 in his first season, Perry wasn't much to look at on the offensive side of the puck, but managed to take the Hounds' single-season hits record and is working on a strong season in Philadelphia. He recently capped, too, and a defense rating of 80 will make him a tough matchup and a deadly combination with Foreskin, Palazzo, and company on the penalty kill.

Lukas Schweitzer (@GlowyGoat)--Though Schweitzer, recently retired, never got anywhere earning-wise or points-wise, I can't say enough about @GlowyGoat as a wonderful, crazy-loyal person and a great locker room guy. Schweitzer was my goalie until just recently, but due to retirement I cut him for the sake of roster space. Though he's only at 60-some TPE, he's got a solid base build, and can always step in to clean up if starter Clayton Park isn't doing well.

    Team World (GM: @Motzaburger)

Khalabib Stiopic (@SweetMike666)--Stiopic is a bit of an infamous name in Mississauga. After I drafted him with the last pick in the 7th round in S66, he earned 2 TPE and then went inactive until the trade deadline, when I threw him in as a "meaningless" addition to a trade for a higher-TPE defenseman. Since then, he's taken off, and currently sits at 200 TPA in Houston, under the member who initially recruited him in Frostbeard. While his stat line isn't the most impressive, his build is formidable, and with 80 defense and 77 scoring, he'll help World greatly on both ends of the ice.

Block Buster (@Banana2311)--Buster was yet another waiver signing made last season, and did surprisingly well considering the circumstances--Buster's save percentage with the Hounds is only 5 points back of rising VHL star Rayz Funk, and the Hounds were much worse as a team in S67 than in S66. While Buster is the second netminder on World's roster, this placement is only on paper, as #1 goalie Virgil Ligriv sits at 200 TPA, a mark which Buster should match in good time. There's certainly a case to be made for giving Buster some starts, too--all of the Yukon goalie's primary attributes are over 70, and with upgrades to skating and agility, there's nothing stopping Buster from blocking quite a few.
