  1. Currently reading The Wheel of Time series for the first time - currently in the prologue of Book 10 - Crossroads of Twilight. First new series I started reading in a long, long time. Tried to get @WentzKneeFan036but I don't know if he even got through 75 pages of the first book.
  2. REVIEW: Have you not played any VHLE games yet? Or am I misunderstanding/this is just for the story? Either way, a nice article summarizing the games that you have played and the games that the Wranglers have played so far. Also a nice touch to @ the members of the other players so they get the shout out. Overall, a solid article with just enough formatting. 8/10
  3. If only these conversations took place somewhere that favored longer, thought out responses that would be posted for all to see and to stay for all eternity! Then those of us who aren't able to be in Discord 24/7 would be able to see and participate in league conversation. If only!
  4. The Lynx and Wumbo are off to a good start - we're currently 7-1, which is awesome. Due to a snaffu with the lines, I've only played 2 games so far, but more are coming. In those 2 games, I've played pretty well - 2 wins, .931 save percentage, and a goals against average of 1.00. So I might be a week late on this, but I want to touch on the additional affiliation TPE now available. All in all, I am in favor of the affiliation agreement between the VHL and the other leagues. Originally, it was "6 TPE from the VHL, 6 TPE potentially from other leagues". It was a good balance between allowing some work to be done in other leagues and still getting work done in the VHL. Now you can claim up to 8 TPE from other leagues, meaning you only need to earn 4 TPE here. It's a minor thing, as it's maybe only 5-10 less minutes of work, but it takes away content from the VHL, which I don't think is a good thing. It's not that hard to write 150 words of something, and if you can't be bothered to do that to participate in the league, I don't think you should have the opportunity to earn it outside of the league. Trade Me? More like "Sign Me" @WentzKneeFan036 - also time for you to change your username.
  5. 1.) I would say don't be afraid to ask questions and don't sweat missing TPE. There's nothing wrong with doing welfare or not maxing out your TPE each week. 2.) Shooting on the Lynx goalies seems like it would be pretty fun! 3.) I won a bunch of awards for my high school hockey team and conference, but nothing too prestigious really. 4.) They'll get the puck...I need the rest of my equipment, haha. 5.) I'm going to answer a different but related question - the change I'm most happy about "recently" is the addition of catch up TPE. Since I joined the BOG way back when, I hated the idea of trade deadline recreates and the huge advantage you would get from re-creating at the "perfect" time. Stolen from the PBE, I introduced the idea of "catch up TPE" in the BOG, which gives you half the TPE you could have earned from joining after the week of the trade deadline. 6.) Pretty good at video games, but not as good as he used to be when he had more free time.
  6. WUMBO DRAFTED BY OTTAWA LYNX OTTAWA, ONTARIO - With the second pick in the 5th round (50th overall) of the S81 VHLM Dispersal Draft, the Ottawa Lynx selected Wumbo, a young goaltender from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Right away, it was a match made in heaven for both on ice and off ice reasons. Off the ice, The Ottawa franchise of the VHLM has a long and storied history with this player's agency. Their first player came into the league in Ottawa (then known as the Ice Dogs) around S27 or so. Many of their other players have also started as member of the Lynx. From a management perspective, the Lynx were the first management opportunity given to the owner of this player agency. They were able to win the Founder's Cup in S35 and S39 before their GM moved on to manage the Riga Reign. On the ice, Wumbo is joining a very strong Lynx team that won the Founder's Cup last season. Wumbo: "I think it's a great opportunity to join the Lynx. I had some conversations with management leading up to the draft so I always knew it was possibility, but now that I've been drafted by them, I'm extremely happy it work out this way. The team was obviously strong last year winning the whole thing, and going into this pre-season, we still seem to have a very strong team. I'm going to put the work in to improve myself as much as possible." If Wumbo wants playing time, he's going to have to continue to improve each week. Incumbent goalie Ed Nu was also drafted by the Lynx (11th pick in the 2nd round, 23rd overall) after appearing in 6 games last year as a waiver wire claim. Nu got the starting nod to the season and both goalies have been told to keep the work up to split starts. However, it all seems to be working, as the Lynx are currently off to a torrid start with 6 wins in 6 games. Wumbo: "Obviously everyone wants to play every game, but as a goalie, that's not always possible. Ed and I are both coming into a good opportunity here to show ourselves to the coaches and prove to them why we want to play. It seems like we'll be splitting starts for most of the season and that's just the reality of playing goalie in the league today. Gone are the days of struggling to find 1 solid starter - now it seems like every team has 2!" Wumbo is going to enjoy his time in Ottawa, but he knows that it will only be for one season. After this season, he'll be drafted by both a VHL and VHLE team. Unless he starts taking some steroids (and even then, it might not be enough), he'll be playing in the VHLE next season and the VHL the season after. All in all though, he is going to continue to take the advice of the coaching staff and Lynx alumni on how to improve his game and become a professional both on and off the ice.
  7. Tacos are easily the most overrated food in existence. No tacos.
  8. Still feel welfare should have been named after Viet and not James Platt. For those who don't know, back in the day of 9 TPE cap and no welfare, Viet would only do practice facility and fan590 for 4 TPE a week. He didn't speak English well at all, but hated @bushito (don't remember why). I think he got 1 player to the VHL but the rest stayed in the VHLM for their careers.
  9. The flip side is there were a good number of people with English as a second language that greatly appreciated the practice and grading. Graphics grading was 10x more stringent than media spots and the same applies. Our graphics community (IMO) used to be much more skilled than it is now.
  10. REVIEW: Tony Bologna! A nice article detailing your thoughts on the champions of each league this past season and where you'd like to end up for the next season. Not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but this is actually the second article in a row I read with the slightly bigger font size, and I have to say I'm a huge fan of it - just makes it easier to read. Overall, a nice solid article. 8/10
  11. REVIEW: Solid article. I like the concept of keeping track on the number of "chapters" - I'm assuming that means you wrote twenty similar media spots previously? Nice job outlining your goals for the season. It's hard to win the Stolzy, especially nowadays, but I wish you luck. Nice to see that Prague is still competing. Some people may say there should be more formatting with colors and pictures and stuff, but to me, what you have is perfectly fine, especially with the slightly bigger font. 8/10
  12. Wumbo was drafted by the Ottawa Lynx - very happy about that! Ottawa was one of the teams to reach out to me pre-draft and I have a long history with the franchise. Hopefully we can go back to back this season. Trade Me @WentzKneeFan036went UNDRAFTED? He hasn't hit the training room since he joined the VHLM? Is this player already a bust? Is there maybe room in Ottawa for this player? It takes about 15, maybe 20 minutes to earn 11 capped TPE a week? Anyone else watching Wheel of Time on Amazon? I'm only on Book 10 and some people watching haven't read the books at all, so no book spoilers if you're discussing please! Looking back on it, it's actually kind of funny that in old-VHL one of the only things that could actually earn you a ban was posting spoilers about Game of Thrones or some other popular series.
  13. 1.) I was at home sitting on my recliner, so I'll probably forget it in a couple of years! Hopefully we can go back to back this season. 2.) The scary thing about game 7s is that it's just one game so anything can happen. Not that you should be scared to lose, but so many wacky things can happen in just one game. 3.) I was just happy to join the league! 4.) Not going to miss much to be honest, I was barely here. 5.) Hm...not really sure. They'd probably brand it with "Behind the Scenes" and then something...but if they didn't, maybe something like "Pouncing on Success: The S81 Ottawa Lynx" 6.) Gotta keep training - have to earn my spot on this team.
  14. Absolutely nothing wrong with taking a break and coming back after a reset. At the end of the day this is a fantasy sim league with made up hockey players, nothing actually important.
  15. So, I had full intentions of writing a media spot today, but then I had a leaking toilet issue that resulted in multiple trips to the hardware store. After the Eagles game, it's now 9PM, so no way that's getting done. I'm good as long as this doesn't become a repeat issue, which I really don't expect it to be. Lots of VHL GM turnover - good to see some new faces in the game. To be honest, I've long been a proponent of max GM term limits (like 12-15ish seasons) in order to keep turnover moving, but that hasn't been a popular idea in the past. I don't know...I'm just tired and old. It's 9PM and I'm sitting in my chair and falling asleep. I 100% still enjoy the VHL but man do I get writer's block hard nowadays, especially since I don't even have a VHLM team right now, let alone a VHL team. One of the best quality of life additions we made to the league "recently" is the catch-up TPE. Makes not starting at the "right" time (VHL trade deadline) nowhere near as bad anymore.
  16. 1.) I went back home - I was only in Saskatoon for a short amount of time and didn't really put down permanent roots at all...I didn't even get my own apartment! 2.) I'm just starting out in the league so I have lots of areas to improve, but I really need to improve my style control - need to work on making the "unexpected" saves. 3.) Not particularly to be honest - I just don't know that many other people yet. Still trying to get my name out there to meet some other people. 4.) I've been on a 90's sit-com kick - previously watched Friends for the first time, now I'm going through Everybody Loves Raymond. Afterwards, I'm probably moving to Modern Family, though that isn't the 90s. Obviously these aren't "good" TV shows or critically acclaimed or anything, but they're good shows I can watch while doing something else and not really miss anything. 5.) Tennis - It's completely different than hockey and is much more individualistic. It's still exercise, but much more relaxing...and no long distance running! 6.) Usually leftovers from dinner, but a good hoagie hits right.
  17. So apparently there are already 3 goalies ahead of me in my draft class, and it's not like I'm down at 20 or something. That doesn't really bode well for my career if I'm going to be going against 3 goalies around my TPE level in the same draft class. Which is kind of disappointing since I was looking forward to being a goalie, since I've never done it successfully before. Chicago and John LeClair II lost - that's a shame, because we were pretty good, but that's also life in the VHL. Every team (usually) who gets to this point in the playoffs is good, so it's not like a huge upset or anything to lose. Anything can happen in a 7 game series. Real talk - Discord (and any type of instantaneous communication, so something like XBOX Live as well) 100% amplifies problems in the community. It doesn't create them, only allows an easier opportunity to communicate. The league as a whole would 100% be better if it could go back to being forum based, but that's not where society is today.
  18. Why does your sig end with a giant blank space? Can you please make it go away?
  19. REVIEW: Glad to see you back writing media spots! Congrats on getting the aGM position in Ottawa. Ottawa was my first stop in the league (way back when in 2011ish) and I've GM'd them at least 2 times, so they always hold a special place in my heart. Glad to see that they seem to be in good hands. Hopefully the Lynx can win the Founder's Cup this year! Overall, this was a solid article about your new job as Ottawa AGM. 8/10
  20. Review: Love the idea of continuing to do media spots involving you and your brother and linking them at the bottom. The VHL has had it's share of power brothers (right @WentzKneeFan036?) and it's fun to both play with your brother, but also against for bragging rights. Liked the transition into the Reaper awards and love the concept of individual team awards in the VHLM as well and congrats on winning your reward. Overall, a solid article. 8/10.
