  1. 1) Relax a bit with friends/family, hockey is intense and these off-seasons are really needed. 2) I could have seen them win, but not in the fashion they did, I thought that the series would go to 7 or at least 6 games 3) tbh I think he could stick with Riga, he performed good and we could see that he needed a change of scenery, and if Riga hang onto him they're a really scary team going into the next season. 4) Scandinavia(obviously) 5) Success for the VHL club 100%, Mikko loves representing his country in international tournaments, but he takes it more lightly than an average VHL season. 6) such an easy question....D.C, but for real I think malmo missed a really good chance of winning it this past season, i don't really now if they can replicate the run next season, so it's either us or Moscow.
  2. News just came in that D.C's Mikko Aaltonen has signed a 5 year extension, going through till S73, the AAV will be precised and revealed later. Mikko was named the first captain in D.C Dragons history, stats wise in 72GP, he had 40G, 38A for a total of 78P. The Following statements were issued from Aaltonen when we caught up with him briefly: "Congratulations! How does it feel having signed such a long-term deal with D.C?" "Thanks, and it feels amazing, this could be one of the biggest decisions I've made in my career, but I'm 100% positive it's the correct one, the day I arrived in D.C I was welcomed with open arms, everyone was nice, ranging from the management, players and the fans especially, you could tell they couldn't wait for a hockey team coming to their state, this and combined with the fact that our GM @Enorama is one of the friendliest people I've worked with so far, you can always talk to him about anything and he'll listen, this is what made my decision so easy, earning the title of becoming the first captain of a new franchise is something that goes in the history books, and the trust he's put into me was something I hadn't experienced before, and the attitude he's shown with managing the team thus far has showed me that he's in it for the long run, and in that regard we share the same vision, I'm here for the long run - to win championships, and I have no doubt that D.C will be in the running for one soon." "What was the negotiation process like?" "Really simple, he approached me before the season asking whether or not I wanted an extension right away, I told him that I'd like to focus on the season ahead and talk about that stuff later, he agreed. Fast forward to the end of the season and I knew right away that there's not even a negotiation needed, the group we have here are all studs and I'm excited to work along them for the foreseeable future. I contacted him saying "extension - max length, sounds good?" he replied with "done." "How important is a relationship like that between a GM and a player?" "It's really important to be able to speak to your GM and them being able to listen to your concerns/problems and give back feedback, I am lucky to have share the same vision with Eno, he puts the trust in me to lead the team during the difficult beginning, and with that I completely trust him to continue molding this newly introduced team into a championship-caliber franchise." "Do you have any words for the D.C Dragons fans?" "Absolutely.. you guys are a fantastic bunch, the energy you give us during the games is nothing that I've experienced anywhere, I am super proud to wear this jersey and I'm ready to bring you guys championships. #96 isn't settling for mediocrity.
  3. I feel honored even being mentioned alongside these players
  4. Part I - Pick em' (Pick the correct winners of all three games for 2 TPE) Game 3 - Malmo Nighthawks @ Seattle Bears Game 4 - Malmo Nighthawks @ Seattle Bears Game 5 - Seattle Bears @ Malmo Nighthawks Part II - Predict the Score (Predict the correct score and winner of this game for 3 TPE) Game 5 - Seattle Bears 2 - 3 Malmo Nighthawks Part III - Player Predictions (Predict the correct player for each category, 1 TPE for each correct answer) Series leader in points: Matt Thompson Series leader in goals: Maxim Kovalchuk Series leader in assists: Hulk Hogan Who has the series PIM lead: Rusty Shackleford Who scores the series winning goal: Jack Lynch
  5. 1) As predicted earlier, Malmo takes it home baby. 2) Probably a team with decent cap space available, those fa gonna cost big $$$. 3) Calling it here - Kronos Bailey. 4) I'd take a forward, especially if we land a top3 pick. 5) penne pasta is absolutely the only and correct answer. 6) Hitting 40 goals this past season was pretty remarkable.
  6. ........ ... ah ok makes sense LMFAO. mikko got beat up on ice but atleast he took home some awards good job on gathering these unofficial stats, cool stuff.
  7. 1) Malmo takes it home. 2) The EU conference is next level of fiesta, absolutely. 3) All gonna depend on how we do in the upcoming draft, if we land on the right side of the coin, we can contend as soon as next season. 4) I want Mikko to hit 50 goals. 5) I played for the first season Philadelphia Reapers, as to how they did the following season after I departed, I've no idea, I stopped following the VHLM lmao 6) Cookies and cream, not even close.
  8. claiming this + graphic for theme week, 8 uncapped TPE.
  9. 1) Probably Mikko for the whole season, but Pekka came in super clutch during the later part of the season. 2) Well I originally did give us an over/under 3.5 line, so clearly better than I expected lmao 3) I think everyone as a whole will play better, we'll get some young studs to help out. 4) Could be, I haven't paid attention, however Pouta seriously stamped his name during this season as the clear starter. 5) Riga, Malmo, Seattle, Vancouver. 6) 1st - Benny Graves, 2nd - Soren Jensen, 3rd - Cinnamon Block
  10. For this Theme Week I decided to show a bit of love and recognition for one of the VHL's best Power Forwards & also one of the longest captains in the VHL, to ever skate on the ice - Brennan McQueen Regular Season Career Totals: 504 GP / 296G / 311A / 607P / +197 / 1095PIM / 2518H | As we can see, McQueen was an absolute monster of a power forward, he absolutely loved to throw his body, and was never afraid to take a fight, but all of this didn't stop him from scoring goals or landing passes, as he was over a point per game during his VHL career, and a stat that I found particularly interesting was, that his lowest hits during a regular season in his entire career was 333, which is absolutely insane to think about, he was almost always over this number except for 1 season. Fun Fact: Drafted in S35 by the..... Seattle Bears?.. Yeah, Seattle drafted him but later on decided to trade him for Edwin Encarnacion, little did they know they just gave Riga Reign their new captain for the next 7 straight seasons, who is also tied for 2nd longest serving captain in the VHL. - S37 & S38 were the seasons where McQueen won the Scott Boulet trophy, meaning he was named the leagues top two way forward. Playoff Career Totals: 66 GP / 37G / 32A / 69P / +10 / 201PIM / 339H | Also a big playoff performer, this especially comes in play in S40, where in 16 playoff games, he netted 10 goals, assisted on 16 , for a total of 26 points, was a +9, had 51PIM, and delivered 81 hits. This is notable because this is the first and unfortunately last time Brennan lifted the Continental Cup, with this he also received the Daisuke Kanou trophy as the Playoff MVP. Along the way he also racked up 5 All-Star appearances.
  11. 1) Philadelphia, Hart will lead them to the cup. 2) He has 2 choices, either he plays for D.C, or gets put into a retirement home for old people, he always picks the first option.. 3) You can't go against Hitz, dude is a natural fightning machine 4) Aaltonen - he's ready to put up 80 goal seasons for this to happen. 5) Possession, more valuable imo. 6) Mikko is a Powerplay god for sure.
  12. About time the VHL needed another finnish Mikko, welcome to the club.
  13. 1) Helsinki is doing really good but I'm tired of seeing them on the top, so for Malmo we cheer. 2) Really like the Marlins logo, the colors work really well together. 3) Mostly his friends and family back in Finland, he visits them every off-season. 4) There's a really nice chocolate factory near center of the town, worth a visit. 5) Listening to rap gives Mikko an energy and a confidence boost. 6) Christmas probably, Aaltonen isn't a big holiday guy, but he likes spending time with his family and friends.
  14. 260 Vancouver Wolves @ Helsinki Titans 261 Moscow Menace @ New York Americans 262 Prague Phantoms @ Seattle Bears 263 Calgary Wranglers @ Toronto Legion
