  1. Please note not to use my first attempt as I messed up and didn't submit correctly. The title of the one that should be recorded on my behalf is Plate - Rhye Tyr. Thank you.
  2. At first, I was SUPER skeptical about Gritty as a concept. I know there are some meme ideas around the league, and making them work can be difficult. After reading Gritty's bio, it felt like he actually has a purpose. There are very real reasons why he's doing what he's doing. And they even play along to his player development. This gives Gritty a good tie-in into the league. Really well done.
  3. This had a lot of great ideas. Loved the interview at the end, never knew what Yiddish was until just now. There were some slight grammar mistakes, I would consider taking a look at using a grammar check. Don't let that take away from any of the great ideas in here because there was a ton. Giving a player an idol to look up to really rounds out their playstyle nicely. Well done!
  4. This is actually a pretty decent article overall. It's nice and follows a simple yet direct career path throughout Stone's career. I liked how you made the article long enough to read and that there was enough meat to get the points across. This definitely gave Stone a relatable player personality.
  5. This biography was pretty well made. I love the authenticity of the interview at the end, really gives some life to the player. And many of the storylines presented could be factually correct as if they actually happened. I.e Volosenkov's draft position with the Mooseheads and so on. Very well written article.

  7. Rhye Tyr The legend. The myth. The man. Early Childhood Rhye Tyr, son of Ronald Tyr and Kimberly Tyr, was born March 18th, 1999, in the town of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. And yes, he considers himself as a 90's kid. Though his childhood would not be the birthplace of his love for hockey, it would be the start of what he was to become. He spent some of his time outdoors with his younger sibling, Emily. While more often than not he would rather opt to stay inside and look at his life through a computer screen. The Microsoft XP default wallpaper was his home. Tyr never got to get outside much at all really. As a natural introvert he spent all his time kept to himself. This helped him with his self-awareness, as well as creating a strong foundation for problem solving. Since a lot of struggles that Tyr would go through would be on his own he adapted much quicker and honed in on the ability to teach himself skills to go above and beyond his peers. By the time Tyr hit elementary school his social skills were all but lacking. He may have been a wealth of knowledge and adaptability, but he could never understand why people made fun of him. Even today his awkwardness lingers, but it is fueled by his drive for success and to show those that doubted him he can make it farther than they ever could. General Upbringing Elementary school was a true struggle for Tyr. Grades and work ethic had never been a problem. But he was frail, and cried a lot when things didn't go the way that he thought they should. He saw so much potential in the world and mourned the times when he knew that it was lost. This didn't help him in terms of being sociable but he was always a smart kid. Sticking to the books and his computer he hammered out top grades in all of his classes. The teachers would most suitably note him for his level of excellence in his work. For Tyr, middle school was a little better. He blossomed and found some of that potential in the world within himself. By reaching out to others, not many, he could share his wealth with others. Often times helping them with school and pushing them above what they were capable of. Tyr would hone in on his skills and join the mandatory band program. There, not knowing what any of the instruments were, he chose to play the trumpet. Where he applied his sense of excellence to gain the role as first trumpet player. Which would be the highest hierarchal position of any orchestral band. Times were looking up for Tyr. He made new connections, expanded his horizons and adapted himself the situation around him. But it wasn't until high school where his whole life would turn around. High School High school expanded Tyr's ability within himself. His cousin introduced him to hockey and he fell in love. Often times hitting the rink in place for the computer and playing with some new made friends. He had found his stride. Putting his work excellence to use in his skating, puck handling and defensive play being on the back end was a breeze. Though it wasn't always smooth sailing it wasn't until the weekly casual games turned him into a real player. Tyr also joined the improv club. This got him over his anxiety and turned him into a bit of a social guru. He was still awkward, but he found a way to turn it into comedy and was a pretty good guy to be around. His spirit stayed with him and he was always able to apply himself and solve most problems that came across his way with little to now help. University level hockey would let him put his name in the game. Acadian Axemen, University Hockey The Acadia Axemen were a struggling team. Second last in the division in the previous year by the time Tyr made the team. With an actual coach with him and a need to improve he stepped up his game from beer league boy to super stud. Clocking in 30:00 mins a game every game getting all the ice time he ever needed. He moved the puck around and could handle it pretty well. Even though he was small, he used it to his advantage and would often speed into position to make the great pass. Hockey isn't a one man sport though. The forwards for Acadia were sub par and it showed. Many opportunities were gone to waste when Tyr was on the ice, trying to help set up his team. However as a calculated and logical player Tyr never let his emotions get to the best of him. While clutch games were rare his inexperience in tight situations showed. That didn't stop him from trying his best. He would graduate from Acadian with an A on his jersey and pride knowing he put up good numbers and a decent plus minus for the team he played for. Acadia was only the start. That was until many VHLM GM's offered top positions as a rental. His draft year being the 65th season for the VHLM, he wanted to make a good splash. And decided that his best chances of winning and making his following proud would be to go to Halifax. The legend. The myth. The man. In his first two games playing for Halifax he recorded a plus 2 and 6 hits. Laying the body out and moving the puck around Halifax felt like his home. In his Province of Nova Scotia, he could really see himself shine. And as a player he grew. Fast. One of the top growing prospects of the first week he was drafted, surpassing the skill of some roster players of the team who had been playing for quite some time. Tyr was headed for the first round of the draft S65 VHLM draft. The legend starts now.

  9. VHLM Player of the Week Hello and welcome to Plates Player of the Week (PoW)! Twice every week there will be a PoW, from games that take place Mon-Wed and Thur-Sun. As you may tell, this is the player of the week from Monday to Wednesday! The first half of the week will be posted here and the latter half will be posted in the VHL.com thread. Let's meet our very first nominees! The Nominees This was a really tough first half. There was a lot of great hockey played by some stellar players. Here are the top three nominees. As you can see from the figure below, all the players recorded an insane 12 points each. Matthew Materazo Materazo plays a great offensive game. Cashing in on 5 goals and 7 assists in only three games is no tall task. Especially when you play on a team as hot as Las Vegas who've won their last 9 straight. There's no doubt that Materazo has contributed to their success and will continue to do so with fervor. Charles Puidgemont What a story for this Ottawa team. Puidgemont is a success story in the making. Scoring 8 goals and getting 4 assists to help his team win their last 5 straight. With Ottawa chasing behind Halifax, this kind of clutch hockey takes you up for a spot amongst the PoW alumni. Diljodh Starload One of Halifax's new acquisitions has made a very explosive start to his new team. Helping the team out with 12 points, 7 goals and 5 assists, is exactly what Halifax needed to keep up in the standings. It was a big move that looks to be paying off with the talent that Diljodh brings to the team. And the PoW is... This was such a tough call to make. All three players could have easily taken the first ever PoW title. However, there can only be one that takes the title this week. So, without further ado. Congratulations to Diljodh for obtaining the first ever PoW! There is a very good reason why Diljodh was picked over Materazo and Puidgemont. When a player has that kind of skill, there can be one deciding factor. Poise, the ability to clutch games and win for the team. Diljodh did that twice out of three games. Pushing Halifax in closer contention with Las Vegas. Closing Remarks Tell me what you think of the format, what can change/improve. What I did wrong what I did right. And don't forget to visit the VHL.com thread on Sunday to see who the newest PoW will be. Again, congratulations to all the nominees for playing an excellent game. All PoW's will have the pow tag for easier searching access.

  11. Player Name: Rhye Tyr Age: 19 Position: D Number: 44 Height: 5'10" Weight: 205 lbs. Born: Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada Rhye's Legacy Rhye Tyr had never really grown up knowing hockey. His father was a teacher and mother a retail worker. Though while he never played it himself it wasn't until his cousin introduced him to the game. It was love at first sight. He dedicated his life to the rink. There was never a shred in his mind that he wanted to hit the big leagues. Straight into the first years of Acadia University, playing for the struggling Axemen he still held his own. Putting up decent numbers with his puck movement and explosive skating. He even had a good job at holding the back end when he needed to. He wasn't the most physical player on the ice, but he keeps his head up in the game. Now that Rhye's proven himself in the university leagues he's got a long way to the top, but it's a hill he's willing to climb. Hockey might not be in his blood but it exists deep in his heart. As his draft year is in a couple of seasons he has a lot of time to improve himself. Making sure that he develops himself well to be a top pick in the draft. Player Review Skating for Rhye is one of his greatest strengths. With an explosive acceleration and leg movement, he can make sure he's exactly where he needs to be. It's a very rare occasion seeing an offensive player get past him on the rush. Even on the other end, he can join players on the rush and test the defensive play of the other team. Defense is a core part of Rhye's play. The best way to stop a scoring chance is to not allow it at all, that's his motto. And he does so with speed and diligence. Players often have a hard time keeping control of their puck or getting passes through when he's on top of them. Passing will always be an integral part of hockey. Even more so an integral part of Rhye's game as he looks beyond into the VHL. Any GM's that consider picking him knows that they can rely on a defenseman that will cycle the puck and keep it in deep. Rhye recorded a good amount of assists in the University league and doesn't look like he wants to slow down any time soon. Size has always been an issue for Rhye. While he can skate effectively, standing only at 5'10" he's one of the smaller defensemen in the league. The highly physical play of playoff hockey can take his toll on Rhye sometimes. Even when he tries to finish his checks sometimes, even when he follows through, has little to no effect on the opposing player. Fighting poorly may be a consequence of Rhye's size, but he still doesn't throw the gloves even when he might need to. He has little to no experience fighting, often choosing not to stand up for himself and relying on others for their support. While he has respect for his fellow players in the locker room it rarely shows with physical play on the ice. Clutch play is something that Rhye needs to address. Under stressful situations, his mind takes him out of the game and he has a hard time focusing. However, like any other weakness, this will get better with experience. A healthy run in the playoffs would be a good start to molding him into a clutch player.
  12. 1) Go team Canada! 2) I am currently undrafted at the moment. I wish good luck to all the teams that have made it and may the best team win. 3) As I haven't played a single game I know the hype around my name is deafening and I can't wait to go out and play for the fans. 4) I can see Ottawa making a landslide finish ahead of Halifax. They just need to keep their stride. 5) I see myself as the talk amongst the GM's to be a top prospect in the league for the upcoming season. 6) The community is great. Very fulfilling and rewarding talking to the members and making friendships over a passion that we can all enjoy.
  13. @Beaviss Yup that's him. And as a commemoration, you say his name like "retire".
