The VHL season has ended for Riga after a disappointing playoff series against HC Davos. And Arnor Sigurdsson isn't all that happy. "We had the talent to win that cup and the fact that we lost in the first round is very disappointing. We all should be, because that was a horrid performance. Davos deserved to win because they outplayed us, and we shouldn't have let that happen. I was fucking horrible as well. Didn't score, was on the ice at the wrong times, and didn't play the body as much as I normally do. I'm frustrated and we all should." When asked about his offseason plans, he said, "I want to forget about hockey now. This season has been the hardest of my life and I'm so happy that it's over. I just want to go home and take some time away from the game to get my head straight. I know I should be playing better and should probably get more minutes, but we'll see. If I don't get enough time, a trade could be on the cards. I like Riga, but I also want to play, and I don't think Riga could give me enough play time with the amount of forward depth they have."

1) Riga faces Davos in the first round of the European Conference playoffs - if the series hasn't started yet, who do you think wins, and in how many games? If it's started already, is it going/did it go the way you thought it would? No 2) Who do you think is most deserving of Rookie of the Year? If you picked someone on our team, who from another team is deserving? HHH because he was a god for us. If not him, Jerry Garcia was a bright spot on the blueline for Malmo. 3) Do you still follow the VHLM? If so, who do you think takes the title? NO 4) You've probably been to a few different countries by virtue of being in the VHLM/VHL. Where's your favorite outdoors spot on the planet? Yukon was beautiful. Great air quality and it's cold. 5) Suppose you were banned from playing the sport of hockey forever. What other sports league do you think you'd excel in? I said soccer already cause I played it 6) Which teammate hypes you up for games the most? Hackett tells me to go take ppl out and I do 7) If the VHL were to expand in a few seasons, where would you want to have the next franchise(s)? Reykjavik and Akureyri 8 ) Do you ever get a feeling that maybe Benjamin Zeptenbergs (our GM) is actually a hedgehog? Yes 9) Are you a fist bump or high five kinda guy? Neither 10) Playoffs also mean the offseason is close. What advice would you give S67 draftees? Keep it up. Make your dreams come true.

The Riga Reign had a dominant season in the European Conference. The Latvian club finished second in the division behind a supremely talented Helsinki team, and will now face Davos in the first round. Riga’s third line right winger Arnor Sigurdsson is excited to prove himself under the spotlight in the playoffs. “I really want to produce at a high level this postseason. I only broke 10 points this season, so I was pretty frustrated, but I think I can break out of that rut this postseason.” When asked about a recent article by @GustavMattias, who called the right winger “a subpar earner for his draft position”, Sigurdsson had this to say. “Let him talk. Sure, I may not be writing media articles that much, but I’m still a top 10 player in this class TPE-wise. Tenth, to be exact. And I went ninth, so I’d say the fact that I’ve been keeping up with everyone else more than proves my selection at that point. My production on the ice hasn’t been very good, but my TPE gains, while minimal at times, have been consistent.” Bringing it back to the postseason, we asked if he had any predictions. “The winner of a Riga-Helsinki series wins the cup. These two have been the class of the VHL, so the winner of that series, if it happens, wins the league. No doubt in my mind.”

"not living up to earning expectations" may be true but at least i'm a positive plus-minus

Arnor Sigurdsson is mad. “10 POINTS! TEN FUCKING POINTS!” That, of course, refers to his amount of points in 61 games. Ten. Worst on the Riga Reign. And the rumor is that young Sigurdsson, angered by his production and lack of ice time, is going to ask out of Riga. “I really feel as if I should be playing more. I play the second-least amount of time out of everyone on the team. I’ve barely even scored, which a player like me is supposed to do. And, not to mention, I’m playing on a line that doesn’t let me play to my full capabilities. I’ll admit, I’m not a passer. At all. Which is why it’s taken adjustment playing with Aaltonen. Sure, I like the guy. But he’s a sniper. And I’m not a playmaker, so I can’t cater to his skill set. This has just been a frustrating season, and if I don’t pick it up next season, I’m more than willing to try somewhere else. I’ve by far been the worst rookie on this team, and that needs to change.” It really seems as if the normally mild-mannered Sigurdsson is pissed off. Many are labeling him a bust already due to his struggles this season. Can he break out of that label and make his way to superstardom? Only time will tell. But for now, the young right winger has some improving to do.

The Riga Reign have consistently been a very good team throughout the season. The Latvia-based team is currently second in the Europe division with 66 points, good enough for second-best in the league and ten points behind Helsinki for first. This, of course, is due to production from the team’s three key stars: Ryan Kastelic, Edwin Preencarnacion, and Podrick Cast. All are over a point per game pace, with Kastelic, a defenseman, leading the way with 60 points, followed by Preencarnacion with 56 and Cast with 51. Power forward (and hometown hero) Randoms follows them with 42 points, and rookie Hunter Hearst Helmsley has taken the jump we all thought he would, with 36 points making him the favorite for Rookie of the Year. Goalie Kallis Kriketers has had another outstanding season as well. The Latvian goalie has a record of 30-11-4, with an outstanding .928 save percentage and a 2.16 GAA, which is outstanding for a league known for its scoring. Kriketers has to be the front runner for the goalie of the year award. Riga is definitely a team on the rise, with good young talent and veteran leadership. They should make a good run in this year’s playoffs.

1) Trade deadline's approaching. Who do you think is most likely to be traded AWAY from their team to a legit playoff contender in exchange for picks? i have no clue and couldn’t care in the slightest 2) We just had a couple of dominant wins over Malmo after a rough few games vs. Helsinki. Which of your teammates have been most important in this stretch? Probably Preencarnacion. The man’s been dynamite all season, especially against Malmo. 3) Helsinki beat us with their bot goalie in, and we beat Helsinki with our bot goalie in. What gives? no clue 4) With 10 teams in the VHL, most minor league teammates are split up. Is there anyone from your minor league days that you keep up with? Not really. I haven’t really seen anyone from Yukon besides HHH and Tony. 5) Did you (as a player) ever game? If so, what's your favorite video/board/tabletop RPG game? I game all the fucking time, and love old FIFAs ranging from 11-17. 6) We heard that one of your teammates has a new celebrity partner. Who's the teammate, and who are they dating? HHH is dating some hot model or some shit, I don’t know 7) Toy Story 4. Is it beating a dead horse? Will it be as good as any of the first three? Yes. No. 8 ) Is it true that Riga has a team dog? yes. His name is Doggo, and he came from hell to bite me every week. 9) We heard the league (and some responsible media members) have the ability to ping/call/text players, like so: @hedgehog337. Is this system annoying for you? hell yes 10) I'm out of questions. Uhhh, would you rather learn 5 new languages or have your lifespan extended by 25 years? Have my lifespan expanded by 25 years. Is this even a question?

1) The WJC teams have been selected - who are you rooting for if you're not on a team? Europe 2) Who do you expect to show up & do well in the WJC? Will they win? Europe. I play for them. I will show up. I will lead the league in scoring. And we will win. 3) We've had a few recent losses, mostly OTLs, against the Titans. What are they doing better than us? Luck. They got puck luck. We're better than them, and we'll show it in the next game. 4) Malmo dropped from 2nd/3rd to 7th over the last couple of sims. Is this a bad set of sims, or is there something going on? Something is going on, and that is that their start was a fluke. We all know they are bad. These sims have shown it. 5) Most players/agents said the upcoming Season 67 draft class wouldn't be as large as S66's, saying S66 was a 'flash in the pan.' S67 currently (well, as of Friday) has 87 members that have earned TPE. Any new players you're excited to hear from in the future? My fellow countryman Bjorn Scoringsonn has been one of the top players in the VHLM and should be a top 5 pick. 6) How much will the VHL need to expand (in a few seasons maybe) if S67 and S68 are comparable to S66? Are you worried about being taken away by an expansion team? I don't think they will, and if they do, I'm not worried. I want to play for Riga. 7) Do you follow any leagues outside the VHL? Are you buddies with any players we should know about? I know Jakup Larsen from the now-defunct NSHL, went to school with Thor Sigurdsson, who plays in the miPBE, and looked up to RW Joseph Lombardi, a top 6 winger for Edmonton of the SHL. 8 ) Let's say the whole VHL is entered into a Hunger Games-style tournament. Who dies first, and who's alive at the end (can't choose yourself!)? Hackett wins. The man has a very mean streak. I think Garcia dies first, cause he's a softie. 9) What's the most-played song on your Spotify/iTunes/Pandora at the moment? Gloria by Laura Branigan. 10) You're in a battle for your life with the devil/grim reaper, and he says you can choose the game/contest you want to play to live. What is it, and why? I play a rock-off like Tenacious D did in The Pick of Destiny and kick the devil's ass with my kick-ass acoustic guitar skills.

Arnor Sigurdsson has been a mediocre player for the Riga Reign this season as a third line right winger. The rookie, picked 9th in the last VHL Draft, has underperformed beyond his expectations, as well as the fans'. The young Icelander has 9 points in 40 games, but 40 penalty minutes in 40 games. His lack of discipline has been killing him, but the underlying stats show something different. The rookie has actually been playing very well in his limited ice time. One reason he seems to be underperforming points wise is that he doesn't play a lot. He only averages 12.02 minutes on the ice per game, which is the least on the team, and nothing compared to the 30.42 minutes Ryan Kastelic plays. However, when Sigurdsson does play those 12.02 minutes, he plays fairly well. Sigurdsson has shown his scoring touch and checking prowess. His 69 hits (nice) are pretty good for a rookie with not a lot of ice time. While the young gun hasn't been producing, he has shown that he has the skillset to make it in the VHL, and will no doubt become a top 6 forward averaging 60 to 70 points per season. I predict that his scoring numbers will skyrocket if he gets more ice time. The team's management thinks highly of him, and he has the work ethic to prove himself in this league.
