1) The draft just finished an hour ago or so. What do you think of the team's (four) first round picks? What about the 2nd and after? Just because I was picked, we had a stacked draft. Aaltonen and I are our RWs of the future. 2) Older players: this team just got a lot younger over the last 48 hours. Does this affect your outlook for next season? yes, the old guys better be scared of us 3) New guys: this team has a handful of S61-S62 draftees. Who will you look up to for mentorship, now that you're in the big leagues? Preencarnacion. The man's a god damn legend. 4) The team has enough players -- especially centers -- for more than two lines. How should Riga deal with this? stack it up mane 5) With the sheer number of players drafted this season, does the VHL need a cap increase? How much should it increase, if so? yes, by $5 million 6) Veterans: Any rookie hazing rituals we should be looking for? Maybe just a little advance notice? Please? 7) Rookies: When are you moving, and what's one important/sentimental thing you're bringing with you to Latvia? I move from Yukon tomorrow, and I'm bringing fuvkin EVERYTHING, from my Iceland flag-adorned pajamas to my meat locker. 8 ) What's the weirdest thing you've seen our GM doing? picking that rando Hackett. 9) I heard there's a Switch set up in the training facility, 8 controllers. Who's your main in Smash? B I G M A N M A R T H 10) Is there anyone - pets, significant others, family - that you're bringing with you to Latvia? girlfriend

S66 Community Mock Draft: 4th Overall Pick
bluesfan55 replied to rjfryman's topic in VHCS League Voting
They’ll go either Aaltonen, Nielsen, or Paddywagon. Aaltonen is probably the safe pick but Riga needs defense (if not here they’ll end up choosing a defenseman with one of their other first rounders) -

You’re coming off a stellar rookie season which flew under the radar. Is next year your breakout season? Moscow is mainly a young team with a bunch of promising guys. Who’s the best prospect that the Menace have? Thoughts on the Menace branding? German center Mark Gebauer paced the team in points with 93 since being picked in the expansion draft. Has he been a good presence on the team? Goaltending was a huge issue, as promising goalie Justin Cole struggled. Do you back him to rebound?

Bert Meyers (C) Press Conference
bluesfan55 replied to RunnerBert11's topic in Player Press Conferences
Meyers is coming off of a fantastic season and is considered one of the top prospects. How does it feel? You recently changed positions from left wing to center. Why so? Favorite song/band? When not playing hockey, what do you enjoy doing? Taking on an AGM role is a daunting task, do you feel up for the job? Favorite VHLer? -
u wat i thought u were tagging me cuz I’m a güd teammate but noooo

I have talked about playing soccer many, many times in previous articles. I was a center-forward who also played on the right wing. I liked right wing; while I wasn’t the fastest, I made up for it with technique and brute strength. When I first played hockey after quitting soccer, I played defense. The coach forced me to play it, but I never enjoyed it. I wanted to score, not stay back and defend. He moved me up to center. I was scoring and playing well, but didn’t have the necessary faceoff skill to succeed. So, I moved myself to the right wing one game. I’m a natural lefty, so I fit well on the right wing. I also scored 4 goals in my first game as a right wing. That forced the coach to put me there permanently. So, I played there, and I continued there in Sweden with Skelleftea, and they sure didn’t stop me there. That’s how I found myself on the wing.

I grew up with a father who had a bunch of sponsorships. His numerous football teams had sponsors on their jerseys (from BMW on VfL Wolfsburg to Postbank on Borussia Monchengladbach), and he shilled for everything, from our local skyr dispensary to Icelandair, the flag carrier of my beautiful country. He knew a lot about business. My dad went to college (while playing) to get a business degree, and he invested his money wisely after retiring. You'd expect a father to pass this type of advice on to his son, and my dad told me all about his money escapades. After coming around to hockey (he was originally against me playing the game I love so much), he told me, "One day, you'll be a star. Arnor, you're going to get sponsored sooner rather than later. And once you do, you're going to need to spend your money wisely. Instead of splurging it immediately on cars, houses, and women, spend it in increments. Get a house and car, but make sure to keep some cash for later. Don't go spending it all willy-nilly. Make sure your spending has a purpose.". I never got sponsors as a young kid in both Iceland and Sweden (it's illegal, of course), but I wore Skelleftea jerseys that were sponsored by Boliden, Brokk, Skelleftea Craft, and Jolt Juice. I remember thinking, "What the hell is Jolt Juice?" as soon as I got my sweater. So I did some research and found out that it was an energy drink company run by VHL Star Ryan Kastelic. My dream was (and still is) to play in the VHL, so when I realized this, I thought, "What if a brand like Jolt Juice sponsored me when I make it big?" I knew it was a bit of a pipe dream, so I stuck it in the back of my head to focus on my burgeoning hockey career. So here I am now. After a great season with Yukon in both the regular season and the playoffs, I'm proud to announce that Jolt Juice is sponsoring me and I'll be playing with fellow Jolt Juice sponsorees like Clayton Park, Joel Ylonen, and VHL legend Edwin Preencarnacion. I'm really excited for this sponsorship. Even though I'm not making much, I get to play with established VHLers in the sponsorship tournament and learn from their experience. I'm buzzing. A brand that I enjoy and have wanted to be sponsored by for years is sponsoring me! It's insane for me to get to see such talent and learn from them. I mean, Preencarnacion is a goddamn legend who averages well over a point per game every season and scored a whopping 141 POINTS in a season, Ylonen is a really promising center who scored 83 points for Las Vegas in the VHLM a couple seasons back, and Podrick Cast is arguably the best center in the league. He averages about 90 points a season and scored 171 points, which is insane. I can't wait for the tournament!

It’s real nice to return home for the offseason. I felt very homesick during my brief time as a member of the Ottawa Lynx, and going home for the VHLM Dispersal Draft was nice. I got to see all of my family and friends again, and it was really calming. It was also helpful for my confidence. Knowing that everyone was rooting for me to succeed boosted my confidence and let me play the way I wanted to. So going back for the VHL draft is going to be fun. I get to visit my parents. I’ll be able to see my old soccer teammates. And of course, we’ll throw another rager after I get drafted in the first round! I can’t wait for the draft, and since I get to spectate it back home (bar me being forced to attend), I’m even more ready. The VHL better be ready, cause I’ll be coming in fast.

Vasteras IK: A Brief History (S1-S19)
bluesfan55 replied to TheLastOlympian07's topic in Archived Media Spots
why did people hate vasteras tho -
What VHL team logo do you like best? Malmo’s is pretty sick, but Calgary’s is probably better. I love the horse with its red eyes, as it looks real menacing. Is your player a blonde, brunette or redhead? Blonde. He’s a big Viking. Weirdest thing in your hockey bag? A copy of Thor’s hammer Mjolnir. I say it helps give me strength. Colored tape for your stick, totally yes or absolute no? why? Yes. Mine is red, white, and blue to signify my home country. Funniest thing about your player? I have a dry sense of humor, so I guess the fact that I can’t sing. What is your goal/ fight song? Anything by Sigur Rós. It reminds me of home.

Something that Yukon Rush right winger Arnor Sigurdsson has frequently talked about is the fact that he wants more Icelanders to be involved with the VHL. He desperately wants to see more Icelandic players get into the league and succeed. And he’d be proud to know that two promising Icelanders are coming in. Las Vegas Aces goalie Kolur Bjoernsson met Sigurdsson in the playoffs, and while he played well, Las Vegas lost in two. However, Sigurdsson had glowing praise for his countryman. “Kolur has really improved over the season, and is making a name for himself as a true #1 goalie. He’s going to be a steal wherever he goes.” And as for Philadelphia Reapers right wing Bjorn Scoringsonn, who’s about to break 100 TPE and has scored 5 points in 9 regular season games? “Bjorn has the potential to become the best Icelander in the league. Period. Better than me. Better than Hall of Famer Grimm Jonsson. He’s going to be something special, and should be regarded as a top prospect.”. It sure seems that Sigurdsson is excited by an influx of Icelandic talent entering the league.

It’s been a ride, Yukon. I never thought I’d be in this position. Coming from a non-power in Iceland where football is the main sport doesn’t help your chances of making the pros, yet here I am, a top 10 prospect in my class. I’m surprised that Yukon took me to be honest. I’ve gone over this before, but I was shocked beyond belief when the Rush picked me. I hadn’t heard anything from the GM (sup @Josh.). I’d expected to go way earlier, so my main point was to prove everyone else wrong. I mean, I think people didn’t think I’d go very high due to my lack of production with Yukon (I scored 0 points in 19 VHLM games last season to go along with one playoff point), but I thought my TPE growth spoke for itself. The season started off rough. I was struggling, the team was struggling, and we were sitting out of a playoff spot. Yet, we pulled it together. The trade for John Frostbeard helped, which added an active and producing winger to compliment HHH [Hunter Hearst Helmsley] and Val[eri Morozov]. That gave us two potent attacking lines. If the top line didn’t score, Anthony [Matthews], Sami [Van Den Dreissche] and myself would come out and attack. It led to an abundance of scoring. Anthony (101 points), HHH (125 points), Val (85), and myself (77) all finished over a point per game in the regular season, with John (69 (nice)) not far behind. So, going into the playoffs, I knew we could do some damage. And do some damage we did. We made the wildcard series and swept Las Vegas 2-0, winning by a combined score of 8-6 (both wins in overtime). It was a hell of a series, as Las Vegas came out guns blazing. Clayto’s steady tending kept us in the games and ultimately won us the series. I don’t care that both games ended in OT. Clayton came up clutch. The series against Minnesota was different, however. We just didn’t seem to find our feet. We lost in 5 games. Our high-powered offense would finish with more than 5 goals in a game once, scoring 6 in our only win. We scored 4, 2, 3, and 1 in the other games. That’s not good considering Minnesota scored 6 in two different games. We just couldn’t score in that series. Minnesota knew our game and bested us at is. Props to them. John came alive in the playoffs, leading us in scoring with 12 points. HHH was steady as ever with 11 points, and Anthony and I both finished over a ppg as well. Ant had 9 points, and I had 8. And now it’s almost draft time. Am I going straight to the pros after this season? I don’t know and can’t say for sure. But if I do, I want to thank everyone involved with the Rush. To our GMs @Josh. and @Gooningitup for running a great team. To guys like @Dangles13, @Beaviss, and @Anthony Matthews for being good teammates. And to the fans, who kept us going during the tough times. I’ll never forget my time in the Canadian wilderness, and I hope you guys remember me. 538 words
