  1. This is going to be a great draft ?
  2. I love how every single article has absolutely nothing to do with its name. ...and I hate that I keep falling for it.
  3. Yeah it's decent but would probably work better as a sports logo if the reins weren't on the horse or some of the shading was flattened out.
  4. He's trying to do the opposite and make the HoF instead.
  5. Remember earlier today when Beav was saying stuff like "I wonder what the best way to get old members back in the league is"? I've got a bad feeling about this.
  6. Stuck down a marker for my city in general, I don't want to get too specific and have someone just randomly showing up at my house. Interesting to see a few names on here, some people are in different places than I thought.
  7. Wait why does @Wikter's name now get autocorrected
  8. Wow Quik out here pulling a Wikter
  9. This thread has been a good, productive discussion as a whole, but the meme had to be made...
  10. That's the thing about the league culture shift you bring up: it wouldn't happen. @Banackock is probably the most anti-AGM GM we've got at the moment, and if you told him "hey, AGMs are now official and they're getting paid to promote the team," he'd probably just tell you "OK, cool, I don't care. Good for them." I'm fairly neutral on AGMs, and that's what I'd say too, to be honest. I doubt anyone without an AGM would end up hiring one because of this. Any AGM I've had will tell you that I pretty much just taught them the basics and answered their questions and then went off and did most things on my own and pretty much just appreciated what they brought to the Discord and did my best to see to it that they got hired as GMs elsewhere (I'm 3 for 4 on that, damn @Radcow disappeared on me). There are probably teams where paying the AGM would make sense; I'm not doubting that. But it really does vary from place to place, and that's really how it should be. Ultimately, the team should be under complete control of the GM, and they should have the right to keep or give up (within reason) as much power as they'd like.
  11. I mean, making an AGM a paid position that's more officially considered a job wouldn't really change much. The teams that use AGMs would continue to do so, and those that don't would also continue to do so. The same people would be in the same positions doing the same things. Unless the league were to require that each team have an AGM, which a) all the GMs would hate, and b) would almost definitely never happen.
  12. I once typed up a big thing about why AGMs should have their own role and a set paycheck every week, but I've kind of cooled off on that a bit. If you're getting involved with your team as an AGM, great! You're doing a good job (unless the GM is just too lazy to do theirs, in which case it's still their fault a lot more than yours). It's something that can be pretty beneficial to a team, and I don't see myself ever arguing against that. But yeah, keep it an internship. GMs get paid 2 TPE per week in the first place; that isn't a really big deal. If an AGM is doing half the work, then the GM doesn't deserve to be paid the same as other GMs who do end up doing all the work. That's where the whole pay-splitting thing comes in. And, finally: if you or anyone else as an AGM wants to kick off a media spot or .com article series on your team, go do it! It's an interesting idea, and you're effectively getting paid for it anyway when you think about it.
  13. For the week ending 5/10: 1. It will be the offseason for a while longer. How do you plan on spending your sim-checking time? 2. Which of our prospects do you think has the best future with Davos? If you're unfamiliar with our prospect pool, go here and take a look at the "finances" tab to see everyone we've got in the minors. 3. The first round of the playoffs ended, and we saw Moscow beat Malmo, Riga beat Prague, Vancouver beat Calgary, and Seattle beat DC. Are you surprised by any of these? 4. Another GM tries to tamper you. Who would you be least surprised to see in your DMs? 5. @Josh is trying to get you in on his crazy skin-care routine. What did he tell you to put on your face this morning? 6. This season marks the second season of my own leadership in Davos. What do you like? What don't you like? Is there anything you'd like to see me do for the team that I'm not doing right now? @RunnerBert11 @DirtyDerek @Thranduil @Frank @cpetrella @Tyler @Ahma @Josh @Brrbisbrr @xDParK @StamkosFan
  14. My claiming for this got interrupted by theme week, so I'm here to pick it back up again. Claim 3/4
  15. That's true, probably wasn't fully awake yet when I first looked over this.
  16. @Victor time for another stupid question. Does question 1 mean Riga as a franchise, or Riga as a location? Are we counting matchups before Riga was Riga (and, for that matter, before the other team was in their own location)?
  17. STHS could use a bit of variety when it comes to player building and attributes, but: I hate seeing people complaining about upsets and saying that any outcome other than their team winning is unacceptable because their second-line center has 20 more TPE. The playoffs shouldn't always go exactly the way they're "supposed to." The standings shouldn't just be a list of the best teams by TPE. I don't stick around for 2 months only to find out that the highest-TPE team won the cup for the 50th season in a row. That's stupid.
  18. I'll just put this here and leave
  19. I'll give my perspective, I guess... -VHLM AGMs are a good thing if they're used the right way by the GM. An AGM is not someone that should be brought in to make the GM's job easier--covering for GM duties should be done only when life takes over for the GM, and even then it shouldn't happen too often. AGMs (as you probably know) can be super useful in terms of helping people out and keeping up Discord activity, and it's for that reason that I'm very much in favor of their existence in the minors. Somewhere along the way, the AGM should learn what a GM does, and learn how to do all of it, too (though, again, they shouldn't be the one doing all of it regularly), so they'll be able to make a smooth transition into a GM job if they end up going that way. -VHL AGMs are fairly pointless. In most cases, you'll need GM experience in the minors in the first place. If you're a VHL GM, you know how to run a team and you'll have your own strategy and all that good stuff, and bringing in someone completely new to running a team won't really accomplish anything as the team will end up just about the same regardless of whether or not the new guy tries to give their input. The only options that don't involve bringing in someone new and teaching them a few things (even though experience in the VHLM is much better for new guys) are a) bringing in someone moderately experienced, perhaps with time spent in the minors, and letting them get a look at your team to see how things work in both leagues, or b) bringing in anyone, regardless of experience, and having them run the team for you. Option A is probably the best way to go for a VHL team--going with someone completely new will probably end up wasting their time as VHL and VHLM are fairly different, and Option B is unacceptable. Either way, it doesn't really accomplish a whole lot--locker room activity for retention matters a lot more in the minors (I will contend that it matters a lot more than most people think in the VHL, too, but still not as much as the M), and there are a lot fewer questions to be answered.
