Was Portal Practice Facility a Mistake?
Gustav replied to Gustav's topic in Suggestions and Complaints
I think it's a bit of a problematic view to say that we should just continue to push things off the forum and onto the portal, something which has been said in some way or another a few times in this thread. Practice facility is (in theory) fine on the portal and I agree that, with some modification and added ease of access to earning information on the portal, the "practice facility only" players I mentioned (and, might I add, I've counted SEVENTEEN of them in this draft class; that's more than just one or two and by far much more than we had before it was moved to the portal) would be much less of an issue and we'd have a good amount more earning activity. But let's think for a second--if it's true that "people don't use forums anymore" and the future of the league is just on the portal, then what happens with the portal? What happens if we move all PT submissions to the portal, articles and graphics and podcasts all out there with the practice facility button? I'll tell you what happens--that's called a forum. It's my opinion that the league cannot exist without the forum. Sure, we're all on Discord these days--but the forum is the reason why we want to be on Discord. Here's where you've got serious, meaningful, analytical posts. Here's where you actually get to make memories rather than just having fun talking to someone for five minutes. Here's where you get to read legitimate content on a weekly basis. This league cannot survive if we push the idea that the league itself should just turn into "watch your numbers go up when you click buttons on the portal," because all of that disappears. Think the future is on the app? Great, improve the app to incorporate the forum. Think more should be on the portal? Great, add more information to the portal and make it more navigable--redirect people to different places on the forum in more than one spot if they need something. But to suggest that nobody uses the forum, on a forum that we're all using for a discussion that we certainly couldn't have on this level anywhere outside of a forum, is something I simply do not get. -
I don't know how it keeps happening, but it keeps happening so I'm happy. Davos finishes the season series 5-2-0 against New York...

That and you'd name your player Jungkok anyway and we'd all figure it out in 5 seconds.

I know you were considering recreating under an alias, but I just want to say it's great seeing Fong creating as Fong. (I knew you couldn't resist the Kpop though)

Re-bump because I don't want to be the guy to un-bump this after just a few hours.

Davos Introduces New Mascot in Big Purple Fashion
Gustav replied to Gustav's topic in VHL.com Articles
David Davos is more fun if you pronounce both words the same way -
DAVOS--The Dynamo are starting to come together in terms of team identity, and it's showing. Late last week, it was announced that Grimace, a former cast member of the McDonaldland commercials, had come out of retirement to represent Davos as the official mascot. Grimace, proudly representing McDonald's in the '80s and '90s, now proudly represents everyone's favorite VHL team. "Duh, I don't know, boss," said Grimace when asked about his decision to fly to Switzerland and show his love for the Dynamo every home game. "I'm purple and I like hockey." While most simply see Grimace's presence as an expression of team support, for some, it means a lot more. "Grimace has been sitting at home eating Big Macs for almost thirty years now," says Riga team doctor Hiro Renomitsu (@Renomitsu). "To see him out and about, getting some exercise and meeting new people in Switzerland, is super important...that kind of thing is great for both your physical and mental health, and it's going to be super inspiring to a lot of people to see him out there living the best life he can." To most, at least, it's an interesting development that's reflective of the team's identity and future. "I like it," said one longtime Davos fan after seeing Grimace turn up to the Dynamo's last home game, an overtime winner against Prague. "We might not be the best team right now, but Grimace is there to keep us smiling and having fun."

What counts as a like, a blue heart or any reaction at all? Either way, I don't want to see Gritty out, but Davos does have a lot of picks coming up...

I know they're switching engines, but I'm barely active over there so I can't really tell you much more than that. I'd probably be inclined to do more there with a better engine, though.

Looking forward to chapter 2!

Hounds banner looks dope. Good stuff.

This is a big point I feel that a lot of people miss. Sure, you lose to a team that's worse than you on paper. Happens all the time in real life and if it happens here there's nothing wrong with the sim. By all rights, Davos should not beat anybody, with the possible exception of Toronto. But how boring would it be for all concerned if that actually happened? It would be terrible to not even have to click on the sims because they'll be decided only by how good a team looks going in. That's not how it works, here or in real life. That's not to say the engine doesn't have its issues--in my opinion, the main thing lacking in STHS is options for player builds. There's really only one way to build a great goalie, and there aren't many different options otherwise. Even for a great offensive player, you'll need really solid defensive attributes. It would be really nice to see something where we'd have more to upgrade, for sure, and assuming said engine were to work well and be able to be integrated well with our site, I'd be in favor of it. We still have to be realistic, though--the engine is not broken if one team upsets another. That's called sports.
