  1. As teams finish up the playoffs and start to get ready to draft certain players, other VHLM players are instead preparing for the jump to the VHL as they were drafted the previous season. Cody Smith, last years captain of the Mississauga Hounds, is one of these players, having been drafted by the Calgary Wranglers 42nd overall.... however, instead of playing LW like most would expect, rumours have been circulating he could instead be a key piece of Calgary's blue line. When asked to comment on this, Smith replied to the media: "I put the team ahead of my own goals and I've played defence before during my short stint in beer-hockey. Given that I'm slowly getting better as a skater, I think it makes sense... I'm strong defensively, I can lay the body, I have a solid slap shot.... and I know Calgary can find wingers in the next couple of drafts that could fulfil the role I'd play on the wing. It'd be an adjustment, but we've seen guys make the transition and play fine. I think I'd bring a edge to the Wranglers blue line, especially given the core is getting older. It really comes down to what the coaches want. If they want to be a winger, I'll play wing. If they want me to play defence, I'll play defence. It's simple as that." Smith makes some fair points. The winger is coming off an 87 point season for the Hounds, having scored 45 goals & added 42 helpers. He tallied up 172 hits & 28 blocked shots. The skill set is definitely there, as is his desire. This is a player whose had to overcome two mental disabilities, once of which affects his muscles. If he were to be a member of the Wranglers blue line, I think he'd do a good job and having him train in the off season to prepare for this alleged transition is a smart decision by the Wrangler coaches. It gives him time to work on his areas of weakness and make them strengths of his game, as well as the ability to be ahead of his rookie class in certain aspects. In addition, I think his main weapon, which happens to be his shot, would be a great thing to have from the point. His goal scoring might go down, but his efficiency would certainly go up, as would his teammates scoring numbers off of rebounds more than likely. I also think that spending time on the blue line would help sharpen his skating, which while it's gotten better, is still not as strong as you'd like it to be from a top winger. That being said, it really comes down as to how his coaches want to use him, as his skill set is very versatile and he could be an asset no matter where he plays. When asked if this move could be a ploy to make free agents stay or leave, Smith replied: "I don't know if anybody on the team is leaving free agency or if a job will open up on the blue line. What I know is that I'm open to making this change if my coaches ask me to. I'm comfortable playing left wing. I'm comfy playing right wing. I'm comfy playing defence. I care about winning. That's what this boils down to for myself. I want to help my team win. I offered to play defence if we needed a blue liner. That's all. It's honestly not that big of a deal."
  2. I applied for both Vegas jobs, so I might as well throw my name in here. I think I've proven to multiple VHLM GM's that I'm invested in this league and that I'd make for a good GM or AGM.
  3. Cody Smith Forward Points: 87 / 10 = 8.7 Hits 172 / 30 = 5.7 That puts me at 14.4 by my math and with the extra 3, I'd be at 17 TPE unless I get a round up on the .4
  4. Man, this sucks.... a Hat Trick goes to waste....
  5. Borwinn's the clear winner, but my vote goes to future teammate Sebastian Ironside.
  6. You shut us down? Be warned, Pouta... I'm coming for you next game.
  7. This all 100% true and I agree that Discord has made the VHL way more fun.
  8. I stand by my comment. Discord's definitely better for engaging conversations, but the forum's great for stuff you miss and when you want to add in your 2 cents to a discussion, much like this thread.
  9. Congrats @FakeJenton! I know you'll do a good job, and hopefully you'll make the rest of us nominees proud.
  10. 1. Hmm. That's a toughie. I'd probably wait to see what the people who want the job say in their interviews, thus giving as many people a fair chance as possible. 2. I'm fine with that being our only deal. We got some insurance and that's what we needed. 3. The fauxback I made. Pretty, striking and different. 4. I'm indifferent. My goal was 80 points and a 50 goal year.... and as we currently stand, I'll hit 80 points probably, but miss out on the 50 goals, which semi-blows. 5. I'd say either Halifax or San Diego. But we'll see. 6. I joined both, and there's a few differences I don't approve of, mostly how little capped TPE one can earn in the EFL & the fact that updating is only done once a week in the SBA and I think the EFL too, unsure of that one for them. But besides that, it sure does make my life easier in some areas and gives me stuff to do.
  11. Hey Matt. You know that I've been around in the Discord here & there (I'm more active in my teams Discord though), I'm very friendly and approachable, I've been learning about the sim slowly from @GustavMattias & @Rayzor_7 as I've been looking heavily at how player TPE allocation has affected the Hounds play and Team Canada's at the WJC. I'm very interested in being your right hand man, if you'd have me.
  12. So the AGM job falls through, leaving two vacancies in Vegas? Well, I'm applying for the GM job and if I don't get hired as GM, I'd very open to being somebody's AGM if they'd take me.
  13. WHO SCORED THE 1ST GOAL OF THE TOURNEY? THIS GUY!
  14. Same boat as @Matt_O here, putting my name in the hat unless I get hired by Vegas for the AGM job. Good luck to all the other enquirers as well.
  15. 1. 100% Happy for Ray. He's earned the job and should make for a great GM. 2. Well, given I put my name in the hat for the Vegas AGM job, it'd be nice to be hired there personally. But we'll see. I think my personality and my interest in learning the sim makes me stand out, as I'm always open to trying to find good combinations to help a team win. 3. I'm fine with continuing the hate with the Queens for the time being.... but I'd keep my eyes on Minny after this year. 4. Happy to welcome in some blueline help, especially a good passer. 5. I don't think going all in made sense for us. 6. Mitch Higgins Trophy - Pekka Pouta, Ottawa Lynx
  16. Not bad, but it really goes to show you how much I've jumped when you look at me and Frostbeard side by side in terms of TPE (220 for him currently, 211 for myself)... I'm 100% a late round steal.
  17. Congrats @Rayzor_7..... and you know, if you need a AGM, your fellow Hound has your back.
  18. I threw my name in the ring for the Storm position, and will do the same here.
  19. I'm totally down for being the GM of the Storm.... ask any of my fellow Hounds, I'm slowly starting to try and figure out the sim as much as I can.
  20. I might do more, not sure yet... and you're welcome.
